A Democrat state lawmaker in Michigan is sounding the alarm over the socialist wing of her own party, accusing left-wing activists of taking black voters for granted and declaring that some of them are “more racist than the KKK.”
Michigan state Rep. Karen Whitsett, a Democrat, is leaving office at the end of the year.
Before she leaves, however, Whitsett delivered a blistering rebuke of her party’s rising socialist wing while urging voters to reject Democrat U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
Whitsett argued that Democrat leaders continue to treat black Americans as a political monolith whose votes belong automatically to the Left.
“It doesn’t change, it’s just different slave owners,” Whitsett told Fox News Digital.
She singled out the increasingly powerful socialist faction of the Democratic Party, arguing that its activists are attempting to dictate how black voters should think and vote.
“You can see the serious divide of the crazy socialist far-left and especially the white women,” Whitsett said.
“They are the worst and the most racist that there possibly ever could be.
“They’re, I think, they’re more racist than the KKK.”
Whitsett Says Black Voters Are ‘Waking Up’
Whitsett accused prominent Democratic-aligned figures, including Al Sharpton and Detroit pastor Horace Sheffield III, an El-Sayed campaign surrogate, of working to “keep the knee on [black voters’] neck.”
But she said voters are increasingly rejecting the assumption that their support can be taken for granted.
Whitsett said black voters are “waking up” and “realizing the power of our vote.”
“Are you trying to help the Black community or are you trying to kill it?” Whitsett asked.
“Are you trying to keep people stupid and ill-informed or what?
“Because right now I can’t tell, right?
“Is this voter education, or are you just trying to make sure you count your slaves on the plantation?”
Whitsett also made clear that party loyalty comes second to her religious beliefs and the interests of her constituents.
“I’m going to stand on Bible first, and I’m going to stand on community first,” she said.
“I don’t care about moving up within the Democratic Party.
“I don’t care about making sure my pockets are better.”
Whitsett, who is not seeking re-election, described herself as unwilling to simply follow the Democratic Party line.
“I always try to be a voice of reason, and I’m not a go along, get along,” she said.
“So, my whole thing is it has to make sense, and I am definitely family over party. God over party is of the utmost importance.”
For Whitsett, El-Sayed fails that test.
“So for me, when you point that out to people, it’s just common sense that to people, that’s just common sense that El-Sayed is not the candidate,” she said.
“There’s just no way. It doesn’t line up.
“It doesn’t line up Biblically, and it doesn’t line up with common sense.”
Whitsett Takes Aim at El-Sayed’s Medicare for All Push
Whitsett also challenged El-Sayed’s support for Medicare for All, arguing that promising universal government healthcare does nothing to increase the actual supply of doctors, nurses, and other medical resources.
“This Medicare for All, it’s not for all,” she said.
“It’s not going to change the dynamics of how many doctors there are, or nurses or blood draws or anything else.
“You’re now going to put the government in your health system, and they’re going to decide for you.”
Whitsett said El-Sayed’s political values do not align with her own and questioned whether his agenda serves the interests of black Michiganders.
The Democrat candidate has already faced significant resistance from other traditional Democratic constituencies as he attempts to consolidate support ahead of the general election.
El-Sayed Faces Backlash over Hasan Piker Alliance
El-Sayed has also come under scrutiny over his relationship with socialist streamer Hasan Piker, whom he brought onto the campaign trail during the primary.
Piker declared in 2019 that “America deserved 9/11.”
He has also praised Mao Zedong and Communist China, said capitalists should be murdered in the streets, and made a series of antisemitic comments.
El-Sayed has refused to condemn Piker, instead dismissing him as a “streamer from California” with little relevance to Michigan politics despite having invited him to the state to campaign alongside him.
The controversy has created another problem for El-Sayed among Jewish Democrats in Michigan.
A group of Jewish Democrats has publicly vowed not to support his candidacy, arguing in an open letter that El-Sayed’s political alliances have left them feeling “threatened and alienated.”
The group cited “demonization of Jews, equivocation on terrorism, exclusion of Jewish Americans from public life, and expression of implacable hatred of the world’s only Jewish nation.”
Whitsett’s intervention now adds another Democrat voice to the resistance against El-Sayed’s candidacy, this time from a black state lawmaker openly accusing her party’s socialist faction of attempting to control voters it has long assumed will remain loyal.
For Whitsett, that assumption is beginning to collapse.
Black voters, she said, are finally “realizing the power of our vote.”
