Senate Democrats Block Stock Trading Ban With Voter ID Provision › American Greatness– amgreatness.com

Senate Democrats on Wednesday blocked legislation that would have banned members of Congress from trading stocks while also imposing a voter identification requirement.

The Senate voted 53-47 along party lines, leaving the “Stop Insider Trading Act” seven votes short of the 60 needed to advance.

The House had previously approved the legislation with support from Republicans and 13 Democrats. Wednesday’s Senate vote effectively ends the measure’s chances of reaching President Donald Trump’s desk before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

While the legislation sought to prohibit lawmakers from trading individual stocks, Democratic opposition centered largely on Republicans’ inclusion of a voter ID provision.

Republicans have separately sought passage of the SAVE America Act, legislation that would establish voter identification requirements. Democratic opposition has prevented that measure from advancing, prompting Republicans to attach voter ID provisions to other legislation.

The Senate vote puts Democrats on record opposing a measure that combined two priorities Republicans have promoted ahead of the midterms: restricting congressional stock trading and strengthening identification requirements for voting.

The House’s passage of the legislation, including votes from 13 Democrats, demonstrated some bipartisan support for banning congressional stock trading. But the addition of the voter ID provision helped ensure the legislation could not secure the Democratic votes necessary to overcome the Senate’s 60-vote threshold.

NEW: House Republicans Map Out Filibuster Bypass for President Trump’s SAVE America Act– wltreport.com

House Republicans may have found their best path yet to get President Trump’s election-integrity agenda through the Senate.

Instead of waiting for Democrats to supply the votes needed to break a filibuster, GOP leaders are preparing to use budget reconciliation to move the core of the SAVE America Act with a simple majority.

The target is straightforward: require proof of citizenship when Americans register to vote and establish a nationwide photo-ID standard for federal elections.

Current reporting lays out the plan and the tight timetable facing Republicans before the November midterms:

House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil is overseeing the election provisions. He says conversations are underway with the Trump administration and Senate Republicans about writing them into a reconciliation package.

Fox News Digital reports that Steil wants to include the SAVE America Act’s two biggest mandates: documentary proof of citizenship during voter registration and photo identification when casting a federal ballot.

Polls Show Majority Of Americans Support Voter ID– thefederalist.com

As the SAVE America Act stalls in the Senate, new polls show that an overwhelming majority of voters across both parties are largely in favor of supporting required voter ID laws.

Seemingly every day there are more reports about noncitizens participating in U.S. elections and undermining the integrity of America’s voting system. Senate Majority Leader John Thune also continues to clash with President Donald Trump, refusing to overturn the now four-month-long blockade of the SAVE Act in the upper chamber.

A recently published poll by Tea Party Patriots Action indicated over 80 percent of likely voters say that only U.S. citizens should vote in federal elections, while another poll conducted by Fox News found that over 80 percent of voters think that a photo ID should be required to register to vote.

The data released from TPPA surveyed 1,000 general election voters and was conducted by McLaughlin & Associates on July 22, 2026. John McLaughlin, strategic consultant and pollster, surveyed people nationwide who are “likely to vote,” and divided respondents evenly between “people who support Trump and people who don’t,” according to TPPA Chairman Jenny Beth Martin.

Vice President JD Vance is turning New Jersey’s voter-roll scandal into a direct challenge for the state’s two Democratic senators: back the SAVE America Act or explain why they will not.

Vance called on Sens. Cory Booker and Andy Kim to support the election-integrity bill after Democratic Gov. Mikie Sherrill admitted that roughly 6,600 noncitizens were wrongly registered to vote in New Jersey because of what she called a software error.

Even worse for Democrats, Sherrill said a preliminary review found fewer than 400 of those mistakenly registered people cast ballots.

The registrations happened between June 2023 and June 2024, before Sherrill took office and while Democrat Phil Murphy was governor.

At a rally earlier this month in Anchorage, President Donald Trump said what a lot of conservatives believe: Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, “is worse than a Democrat.”

Trump was right. And Murkowski just proved him right again.

The Senate’s leading RINO over the weekend announced that she remains opposed to the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act. She did so in an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal so that a wider audience could read her purported reasons and to magnify just how much she despises Donald Trump.

In the self-serving piece, Murkowski claims she supports the bill’s “core tenets” but still opposes the bill.

“Why? Because it would have serious negative effects in Alaska, and the current text doesn’t allow for the time and resources needed for proper implementation,” wrote the four-term senator with designs on a fifth in 2028.

Congress Goes On Vacation, Neglecting SAVE Act, PP Defunding– thefederalist.com

While Congress enjoys an undeserved Fourth of July break, critical election security legislation backed by the vast majority of Americans remains on life support.

Noodle-spined Republicans checked out without moving on the SAVE (Safeguard American Voter Eligibility) America Act and did nothing to stop hundreds of millions of dollars of Medicaid money from flowing back to the nation’s largest peddler of abortions.

A lack of action on those two fronts alone could be enough to depress conservative turnout in November’s elections, and could prove costly to the GOP’s hopes of holding power in Congress.

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that ballots postmarked on or before Election Day but received afterward can be counted by states. “Election day” is now a misnomer because voting and counting go on for many weeks in states like California.

RedState’s Jennifer Oliver O’Connell explains:

A pivotal ruling on the fate of states that collect and count mail-in ballots after election day has been issued. In a 5-4 decision on Watson v. RNC, the Supreme Court of the United States held that federal Election Day statutes do not prohibit states from counting ballots postmarked by Election Day but received afterward under state law.

Washington — Republican hardliners continue to hold up most legislation on the House floor as they dig in on their demands for the Senate to pass President Trump’s voting regulations bill, the SAVE America Act.

On Tuesday, the holdouts blocked Speaker Mike Johnson’s plan to merge the SAVE America Act with the annual defense policy bill, known as the National Defense Authorization Act, before sending it over to the Senate. The conservative members sank a party-line procedural vote that would have set up final votes for the defense bill and other legislation.

Fourteen Republicans, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, voted against moving forward. Scalise, from Louisiana, switched his vote in a procedural move so that leadership can bring up the measure again.

It’s been one of the most frustrating conundrums for conservatives in the second Trump era: they control the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives, yet they can’t get the SAVE America Act, which would require voters to produce proof of citizenship to register and provide a photo ID to submit a ballot, passed.

Although the SAVE Act has passed the House, Republicans are short of the 60 votes needed in the Senate to get it done, and Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) has refused to get rid of the filibuster, saying he can’t corral enough votes for that either.

As the Senate readies for another vacation, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (FL-13) and other conservatives have seen enough. She’s threatening to halt all House business until the Act is passed in the upper chamber.

She’s not playing games, she vowed:

“There’s going to be no votes this week, and it’s going to be as long as it takes,” Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., who is leading the effort, told Fox News Digital in an interview.

The hardball tactics led House Republican leadership to pull a series of votes on Wednesday. House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., is expected to put legislation that had already been teed up for a vote Thursday, but it is unclear whether he will be able to convince Luna and other conservatives to end their blockade, effectively freezing the House floor.

“The president’s been very clear,” Luna told Fox News Digital. “He’s not playing these games anymore, and I’m going to fully back him, and I have the votes to do it.”

The House Freedom Caucus is publicly calling on the Senate to return to work, as the upper chamber is now in a two-week Independence Day recess. President Donald Trump and many Republicans still want to find a way for the SAVE America Act to get passed in the Senate.

“The Senate sucks. I’m just going to come out and say it – they suck. This is not hard!” Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) said during a Thursday news conference.

The federal elections bill already cleared the House, but it is struggling for support among a handful of Republicans and all Democrats in the Senate. Trump visited Capitol Hill on Wednesday to advocate for the proposal in a lunch with Republican senators.

“The president did the right thing yesterday by canceling the bill signing, unless the SAVE Act was attached,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-SC) said.

After making opposition to voter ID requirements a plank of the Democratic Party platform, the Obama Presidential Library must be evil racists, massive hypocrites, or maybe even both.

The building, which honors the 44th president, opened last Friday in Chicago, Illinois. This imposing, grey structure cost $850 million for what looks more akin to a massive trash bin than a library.

Visitors and anyone checking the website were met with an interesting bit of information about their visit — you must show a valid photo ID to enter.

The website policy reads, “Must be able to provide proof of residency. Be prepared to show proof of residency at the Museum with a valid photo ID, Illinois driver’s license, state ID, or city-issued ID. Guardians must be able to provide proof of residency for accompanying children.”

On Tuesday, four GOP senators stood with Democrats in voting for a House resolution telling President Donald Trump to remove U.S. military personnel from the war (“ceasefire”) in Iran. The resolution is, like most things in Congress, performative — a symbolic congressional directive that Trump has no obligation to follow. The president effectively told Congress to go pound Iranian sand.

In a Truth Social post late Tuesday, Trump insisted he has “Iran on the ropes.”

President Donald Trump said Monday that he will not support an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act unless it includes his election integrity measure, the Save America Act.

“The Dumocrats want FISA because that’s what they used to go after me for three years during my First Term!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The commander in chief outlined key provisions he wants passed, including voter ID and proof of citizenship as well as limited mail-in ballots for extreme circumstances.

Thanks to four Republican Senators, efforts by the GOP to pass the SAVE Act failed once again. The Act would make Voter ID mandatory. Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) attempted to add it as an amendment to DHS funding bills, but the provision failed thanks to four GOP no votes.

The Voting Rights Act is widely considered one of the most effective laws in prohibiting racial discrimination in voting. One of its key provisions has long allowed states to take race into account when drawing voting maps to ensure that nonwhite voters have electoral power. But earlier this year, the Supreme Court narrowed that provision. In her dissent, Justice Elena Kagan described the court’s decision as the “now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act.”

The explosive standoff over the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act has pushed the U.S. Senate into a pressure cooker, transforming the legislative battle into a high-stakes referendum on the leadership of Majority Leader John Thune. For a rapidly growing number of Americans, the slow, agonizing movement on this landmark election security bill is nothing short of a tactical surrender – a profound failure of nerve from a leader increasingly viewed as a worthless roadblock to the populist agenda.

Across the country, the hatred directed at Thune is reaching a boiling point, fueled by the conviction that his deliberate inaction is a direct betrayal of the citizens he was chosen to lead. Indeed, there is no institutional excuse; his handling of the SAVE Act is a definitive reason why he should resign.

To understand the intense fury surrounding John Thune’s leadership, one must first look at the bill at the center of the storm. The SAVE Act represents a massive proposed shift in how American federal elections are conducted. The bill’s core mandate is simple but sweeping: it would require all Americans to present formal documentary proof of citizenship – such as a U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate alongside photo identification – in order to register to vote in federal elections.

President Donald Trump has made the SAVE America Act a central GOP priority ahead of the midterms. Voters still don’t know how to feel about it.

New results from The POLITICO Poll show that while many Americans support some core provisions of the SAVE America Act — such as requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote — that support is not overwhelming. And they are far less certain about the sweeping elections bill overall, even as Trump has for months pressured Republican lawmakers to pass it.

Democrats in particular oppose much of the SAVE Act, and many of them are unenthusiastic even about the voter ID provisions that generate the broadest support — a sign that Trump is prioritizing legislation that has little crossover appeal.

A 42 percent plurality of voters who supported former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 back requiring proof of citizenship when registering to vote, including when registering by mail. But that number is dwarfed by the three-quarters of Trump 2024 voters who support such a measure, according to the survey conducted by Public First.

Not a single Democrat in the Senate is willing to support the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, and a new op-ed from The Washington Post might just explain why.

The SAVE America Act would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require documentary proof of citizenship to register to vote and voter ID to cast a ballot in federal elections. The current “safeguard” preventing noncitizens from registering to vote and voting is a tiny square box on the federal registration form asking applicants to attest they are telling the truth about their citizenship status. In other words, the honor system.

The legislation passed the House (with a single Democrat voting alongside Republicans) but has stalled in the Republican controlled Senate, with a few RINOs and the entire Democrat apparatus opposing the election integrity legislation.

A majority of voters support the SAVE America Act and want Congress to pass it before the midterms in November, a March Harvard CAPS/Harris poll found. The majority of respondents also support other election integrity requirements, like counting ballots within 24 hours after Election Day, removing noncitizens from the voter rolls, and even allowing states to share voting records with the Department of Homeland Security.

The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll is conducted monthly. Last month’s survey, conducted March 25-26, included 2,009 respondents identified as “registered voters.”

Much of leftist media outlets’ coverage surrounding the SAVE America Act — which would require documentary proof of citizenship when registering to vote and voter ID in federal elections — fearmongers that the legislation would essentially disenfranchise voters en masse by enacting these common-sense safeguards. The recent Harvard/Harris poll suggests that Americans aren’t as worried about that as the corporate press would have you think.

Members of the Democrat-controlled Assembly want to “temporarily” push aside the work of a state redistricting commission so that they can rewrite Virginia’s congressional maps. The measure needed 60 votes to pass but only received 53 “AYE’s.”
