Support for Trump’s deportation efforts has held steady in recent weeks, as Americans remain generally supportive of promises the president made regarding immigration while running for office.

A majority of Americans support President Trump’s approach to deportation, according to a new CBS/YouGov poll.

58 percent of Americans approve of the Trump administration’s program to deport illegal immigrants who are in the US. Support for Trump’s deportation efforts has held steady in recent weeks, as Americans remain generally supportive of Trump’s plans to carry out immigration policies he proposed while running for president.

The vast majority of Americans agree that federal judges should be allowed to review Trump’s policies, however. This comes as several judges have implemented legal roadblocks that have hindered the Trump administration from carrying out its desired deportation efforts. While 59 percent of Republicans support impeaching federal judges who rule against Trump’s policies, most Democrats and Independents oppose such actions.

Naz Shah, a Labour MP who originally supported assisted suicide is opposing the Kim Leadbeater assisted suicide bill. The UK assisted suicide bill passed at second reading by a vote of 330 to 275. The bill was debated in committee where there were 393 proposed amendments with only 32 of the amendments accepted.

Shah is one of many MP’s who support assisted suicide in principle but are opposing the bill. Opposition to the bill may be the reason why Leadbeater, the sponsor of the bill, recently stated that, if passed, implementation of the assisted suicide bill would be delayed until 2029.

David Maddox, the Political Editor for The Independent, wrote an article that was published on March 30. Maddox explains why Shah is opposing the assisted suicide bill:

A Labour MP who had originally been inclined to vote in favour of Kim Leadbeater’s assisted dying legislation has claimed that the bill now has weaker safeguards than when MPs voted on it in November.

Naz Shah spoke to The Independent in the wake of the laborious and, at times, tetchy committee stage of the controversial bill being completed in parliament last Wednesday.

The Bradford West MP, who served on the committee scrutinising the bill, had hoped that safeguards could be strengthened to make it workable but now claims the legislation is “fundamentally flawed”.

Maddox further reports on why Shah opposes the assisted suicide bill

…Ms Shah has said she is “very disappointed” and “disheartened” with the direction taken after hopes they could ensure the safeguards were robust.

She revealed: “Kim [Leadbeater] is a friend and when she first told me about the bill I was inclined to vote for it. But the more I looked at the details, the more concerns I had.”

Top among these were concerns over the way people who suffer from domestic abuse and have disabilities could potentially be coerced into ending their lives early. As someone who had suffered previously from domestic abuse in a forced marriage, these issues were important to her.

Ms Shah also made headlines during the process when she was forced to leave a session because her hearing aid batteries had run flat. An attempt to push through amendments had seen the session extended despite pleas from Ms Shah that she could not take part.

The mega law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP has made peace with President Trump before it was targeted by an executive order.

“Over the past few days, we learned that the Trump Administration intended to issue an executive order directed at Skadden,” London wrote. “We believed it would focus on DEI initiatives and our pro bono activities.”

“With that in mind, we chose to engage proactively and constructively with the Administration to align on a productive path forward without the issuance of an executive order,” he wrote. “We entered into the agreement the President announced today because, when faced with the alternatives, it became clear that it was the best path to protect our clients, our people and our Firm.”

“Not everyone will agree with the decision we made today, and I have great respect for the different views that make us stronger as a Firm,” he wrote. “But I firmly believe that an agreement centered around our pro bono work and complying with the law was an acceptable outcome to ensure Skadden will continue to thrive long into the future. This agreement does not change who we are.”

 

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump revealed the terms of the agreement.

Today, President Donald J. Trump and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP announce the following agreement regarding a series of actions to be taken by Skadden:

1. Skadden will provide a total of at least $100 Million Dollars in pro bono Legal Services, during the Trump Administration and beyond, to causes that the President and Skadden both support, in relation to the following areas: Assisting Veterans and other Public Servants, including members of the Military, Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Federal, State, and Local Government Officials; ensuring fairness in our Justice System; and combatting Antisemitism. Skadden will change its pro bono policy so that all pro bono moving forward will be done in the Firm name. A pro bono Committee will be constituted to ensure that pro bono matters are consistent with the objectives of the program, and that pro bono activities represent the full political spectrum.

2. The Skadden Foundation will commit to the mission of providing pro bono Legal Services to a wide variety of deserving organizations and individuals. Skadden is committed to funding no fewer than five Skadden Fellows each year dedicated to the following projects: Assisting Veterans; ensuring fairness in our Justice System; combatting Antisemitism, and other similar types of projects. Law Graduates that receive Skadden Fellowships will represent a wide range of political views, including conservative ideals.

3. Skadden affirms its commitment to merit-based hiring, promotion, and retention. Accordingly, the Firm will not engage in illegal DEI discrimination and preferences. Skadden will engage independent outside counsel to advise the Firm to ensure employment practices are fully compliant with Law, including, but not limited to, anti-discrimination Laws.

4. (Live Action) — The United States Coast Guard has announced that it will no longer be funding abortion-related travel or leave, as the military looks to reverse a Biden-era policy requiring the Department of Defense (DOD) to pay for service members to have abortions. Just last week, the Navy made a similar announcement.

In 2022, the Pentagon said it would pay for service members’ abortion-related travel. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated that the overturning of Roe v. Wade, along with pro-life laws in some states, would affect “readiness, recruiting, and retention implications” for the U.S. military. Therefore, service members and their defendants would be reimbursed for expenses incurred when seeking induced abortions to intentionally end the lives of their preborn children.

After President Donald Trump was inaugurated for the second time in January, he issued an executive order reinforcing the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal dollars from funding most abortions. As a result, the DOD released a memo confirming it would no longer fund abortion-related travel.

Earlier in March, the Navy announced it would halt abortion-related leave and funding for abortion travel, following the DOD directive. Now, in a memo, the Coast Guard has also confirmed that abortion travel expenses will not be reimbursed, and Coast Guardsmen will not be granted administrative leave for abortion.

Half of U.S. Protestant pastors say their churches are growing but some warning signs remain about their congregational future.

U.S. Protestant churches are almost evenly split between those that have grown within the past two years and those that are plateaued or declining, according to an Exponential study by Lifeway Research.

Around half of the congregations (52%) increased their worship service attendance by at least 4% in the past two years. The other 48% of churches have either remained within plus or minus 4% since 2022 (33%) or declined by at least 4% (15%).

“Clearly, the last two years of attendance growth was aided by people returning to regular attendance after being away since the start of the pandemic,” said Scott McConnell, executive director of Lifeway Research. “Most pastors wish they had returned earlier, but their attendance is a source of optimism, though future growth will need to come from brand new contacts.”

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey issued a cease-and-desist order last week to Planned Parenthood formally prohibiting the abortion giant from performing chemical abortions in the state. The order advises the company to implement a “valid” health and safety plan to protect women and treat complications from abortion-inducing drugs, as required by state law. AG Bailey cited Planned Parenthood’s “uncontroverted track record” of disregarding Missouri health and safety laws as the reason for the temporary restraining order, which makes it a felony for the organization to dispense the high-risk drugs.

In November 2024, Missouri made abortion a constitutional “right” in the state, which nullified the state’s near-total abortion. Since then, Planned Parenthood has resumed surgical abortions at several Missouri facilities. In response to the order, Planned Parenthood officials have indicated that its Missouri facilities are not currently offering chemical abortions and won’t do so until the complication plans are approved.

However, AG Bailey stated in a press release that the order is due to Planned Parenthood’s “documented history” of “repeated and knowing” violations of state law. He noted the organization has “admitted under oath” to knowingly “refusing to file required complication reports” and that investigations had discovered other violations, such as failing to comply with informed consent laws and to sterilize surgical instruments.
