Alzheimer’s disease is one of today’s leading global health challenges, with over 10 million new dementia cases diagnosed each year. Despite a 7x increase in National Institutes of Health funding in the last 15 years — reaching $3.9 billion annually — no treatment has been found to stop, prevent or reverse the disease yet. 

The bottlenecks are not enough high impact scientific findings, too much data living in institutional silos and too slow a pace of synthesis to keep up with the research that is published. 

C-BRAIN, led by Dr. Randall Bateman and a consortium of 18 member institutions across academic, philanthropic, pharma and research organizations, launched in November 2025 to help scientists make better, faster discoveries by accelerating the research that makes new treatments possible. 

“We have a window of opportunity with artificial intelligence to do research fundamentally different than we’ve ever done before, in a way that accelerates discoveries to help patients,” said Bateman, founder and director of C-BRAIN and the Charles F. and Joanne Knight Distinguished Professor of Neurology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. It cited concerns that because DeepSeek servers are in China, Chinese authorities could gain access to private-sector infrastructure and sensitive U.S. data. Asked about the matter, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning (마오닝) said China would “resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests” of Chinese companies. She added that China consistently opposes the excessive expansion of the concept of national security.

Federal authorities arrested a 24-year-old Kansas man after he allegedly threatened to assassinate President Donald Trump during a campaign rally, claiming he had already mapped out rooftops surrounding the president’s scheduled appearance.

The suspect, identified as Jaden J. Read of Clearwater, Kansas, was taken into custody Saturday, October 17, just two days before Trump was scheduled to address supporters near Wichita.

According to the Justice Department, Read posted a series of disturbing messages on Facebook threatening to shoot the president, including one in which he appeared to reference the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The threats prompted an investigation involving the U.S. Secret Service and multiple law enforcement agencies, ultimately resulting in federal charges against Read before Trump’s arrival in Kansas.

The investigation began October 15 after authorities received a Crime Stoppers tip concerning comments posted beneath a Facebook article from local television station KAKE News about Trump’s upcoming visit.

Investigators determined that Read had allegedly published multiple threatening statements, including one directly calling for someone to shoot the president.

The wine business, which Omar previously listed with a multi-million-dollar value in financial disclosures, sold investors empty barrels purportedly containing wine to be aged before shutting down amid fraud allegations.

The family of the chief whose image inspired one of the most iconic logos in NFL history, the Washington Redskins, wants to take their case to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue to restore the franchise’s treasured past.

Two Guns White Calf of the Blackfeet Indian Reservation inspired Walter “Blackie” Wetzel’s 1971 Redskins logo, which the franchise used until former owner Daniel Snyder abruptly discontinued it in 2020.

“He was such a leader, and he had a hold on the National Football League for 50 years,” said estate representative Morningstar Gopher.

While the logo and team moniker sparked controversy over the years, Native Americans overwhelmingly either supported the Redskins name or didn’t mind it.

“They tried to erase us, like we didn’t exist anymore,” estate lead Kenneth Conway told WTVR.

The family contends that after years of defending the team’s name, Snyder suddenly moved to cancel it without any consultation.

“They did not even ask our family for approval. They didn’t ask for nothing from us. I mean, we literally got erased,” said historian Brock Conway.

Now, the family wants to take their case to the very top.
