Former President Barack Obama once again inserted himself into the wrong side of a legal discussion after chiming in to defend Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.
Obama — who was sharply criticized during his presidency for meddling in cases such as the Trayvon Martin murder trial and the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates — was brutally ratioed on X with Community Notes pointing out the many errors in his screed.
“Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically,” Obama claimed.
However, notes citing the New York Post and Washington Post both noted that there was no documentation showing that Omar’s father ever was naturalized.
