EXCERPT:
On January 11, 2023, Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany took to the floor of Congress during a conversation on the overturn of Roe v. Wade to defend crisis pregnancy centers and call for laws protecting the unborn. “(Dobbs) reestablished the authority of states to prohibit the killing of unborn children,” he declared. During his 2020 Congressional campaign, he described himself as a “proven fighter for life.”
But as a recent report observed, Tiffany is one of several GOP gubernatorial candidates who has changed his tune. Asked recently in an interview about his co-sponsorship of a six-week abortion ban in Congress, Tiffany backtracked:
So I voted on that bill a decade ago, and I just really thought that we hit a middle ground. What I heard from my constituents at the time is they’re like, ‘we want to compromise.’ And ‘we want you to hit the middle ground here.’ And so we voted on that five-month bill. I voted for it. It was signed into law. It’s the law now in Wisconsin. And I will uphold that law as it’s written.
