In Issue 2026.35, Ecumenical Statism, Paul Gordon Collier gives a snapshot overview and analysis of the rising “immigrant” crisis in Europe.
Our Bellwether Report covers Progressive Banking, Bad AI Numbers, and the Rise of Bolsonaro 2.0
In our Final Thought, Bill Collier looks at the underlying “madness” of U.S. midterm elections and how it shows voters are not voting on foundational issues, but rather personal interest issues.

Bellwether Report – Global Outlook, Headlines Missed, People Advance
NINE U.S. BANKS DEBANKED DISSENTERS OF THE PROGRESSIVE ORTHODOXY – Nine major U.S. banks have been found to have debanked Americans for holding views not acceptable to the anti-American ideology of progressivism. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released a report exposing the unconstitutional, and possibly criminal actions.
The nine banks listed were: BMO Bank, Capital One, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase Bank, PNC Bank, TD Bank, U.S. Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. These debankings happened between 2010 and 2025, meaning they continued after Trump took office.
IS TRUMP DONE WITH ZELENSKY? – President Trump has made it clear that Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Volodymyr Zelensky, is not the man to end the Ukraine War. He has pulled back verbal, and even material support, including scaling back intelligence support for Ukraine. The final straw for Trump came with Zelensky refusing to stop bombing Russian diesel refineries.
To Trump’s recent insistence Ukraine stop bombing Russian diesel refineries, Zelensky responded “The block is out. We’re done.” At home, Zelensky faces numerous allegations of corruption as more and more Ukrainians grow weary of fighting for a country that has no free elections.
OVER HALF A MILLION AMERICANS WERE STALKED BY JACK SMITH – The progressive pit bull special prosecutor Jack Smith was spying on far more than the GOP leadership, including President Trump; he was also spying on over half a million Americans.
Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley claimed, “This update shows that Jack Smith and the Biden Justice Department collected incredibly invasive donor data — and voter data — beyond what could conceivably be necessary for Smith or his team to fulfill the Special Counsel’s mandate. The new findings further corroborate that Smith and his partisan team aimed to map out the entire Republican Party apparatus.”
BLUE STATES SHOW WHAT’S AT STAKE IN THE 2026 ELECTIONS – While polls continue to show Democrats to be the favorites to win the midterm elections, blue states are showing what progressive rule looks like. Religious liberty is being interpreted in blue states as only being a freedom to worship, not a freedom to outwardly, publicly live out your faith.
From Illinois to New York to California, laws are being passed that are forcing people of faith to participate in abortions, euthanasia, and affirm LGBTQ lifestyles. While “affordability” still appears to be the top issue in this election, “government trust” is a rising issue.
HOUTHI ATTACKS CANNOT BE CONTAINED – The Houthis of Yemen are wreaking havoc on the Red Sea area, and major cities of Saudi Arabia as well. The latest Houthi missile assault struck the Yemeni presidential palace, killing five.
Saudi Arabia’s deputy foreign minister claimed, “Iran continues to arm, train and support the Houthi militia in violation of UN Security Council resolutions. We think that the escalation by the Houthis at this latest stage of the conflict is encouraged by Iran.”
LEGAL SHOWDOWN WITH CALIFORNIA OVER ILLEGAL BALLOTS – The Department of Justice is suing the state of California and calling on 20,000 ballots to be frozen to determine whether U.S. citizens are behind the ballots.
Attorney General Todd Blanche announced, “State-facilitated voter fraud is unacceptable in the United States of America. If found responsible in a court of law, the State of California will have seriously undermined confidence in our electoral system and violated laws that protect our nation’s representative system of government.”
BURNHAM BLAMES RUSSIA FOR BREXIT – UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has telegraphed his next major move, setting up an election with Brexit on the chopping block. He is leading an international effort to paint Britain’s choice to leave the EU as a Russian-manipulated outcome, justifying a revisiting of the question. He accused Russia of meddling not only with the 2026 vote, but with other European elections as well.
OREGON SCHOOL SHOOTING STOPPED BY AMERICAN GUN OWNER – A shooting at an Oregon high school left three children, aged five, eight, and 1l, along with one teacher, dead. The shooter has been identified as John J. Griffin III. The shooter was stopped by a parent with a concealed carry license, saving many lives, but tragically not all lives.
HARVARD PROFESSORS AND ALUMNI ARE AGAINST HIRING CONSERVATIVES – A recent suggestion by Harvard that it should do more to get conservative professors hired was met with stiff resistance from progressive professors. Over 95% of Harvard’s professors are self-identifying progressives.
Progressive alumni joined in the resistance, with one alumnus claiming, “Even supposing that [silencing] takes place, how would the hiring of conservative faculty act as a countervailing force? Surely such hiring may inhibit viewpoint diversity rather than nurture it.” We will leave that statement represent the mind of the progressive in all its incongruity with reality.
AMERICAN UNDERGRADS BECOMING VIOLENT PROGRESSIVES – A new poll from the Buckley Institute claims 45% of American undergrads support violence against “hate speech.” 30% of self-identifying “conservative” undergrads agreed. 22% of undergrads believe America deserved 9/1. Among those who support violence against “hate speech,” 72% say “hate speech” is a constitutionally-protected free speech.

AI DEBT LOOMING THREAT ON WORLD ECONOMY – The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a warning to global markets about the looming debt in the AI industry. It claims all the major American tech companies are saddled with AI investment bills not met with AI-producing revenues.
ANTHROPIC ANNOUNCES RESTRICTIONS ON BEING MEAN TO ITS AI AGENT, CLAUDE – Anthropic has announced plans to implement a new governance policy for users of its AI agent, Claude. The change of policy would eventually block users from using Claude who are consistently “mean” to Claude.
They claim the rule will be enforced selectively, “only in extreme cases, where users repeatedly act cruelly toward our models, with no discernible purpose.”
CHINA USING AI TO DEFINE “ONLINE HATE” – The People’s Security University of China have developed an AI agent they claim can both identify hate speech (including dog whistling and coding) and the source for the hate. If “successful,” the model is sure to “inspire” similar efforts with like-minded ideologues (mainly progressives).
From bioengineer.og, “Few-shot detection of coded hate speech sits at the intersection of machine learning, computational linguistics, and social science, and this study offers a concrete template for how modern agentic AI techniques can be marshaled against one of its hardest instances.”
CHILD GENDER “THERAPISTS” CONTINUE SHUT-DOWN OPERATIONS UNDER NEW NAMES – When child transgender therapists and operations are shut down from organizations relying on Federal tax dollars, they turn to independent trans zealots to both fund and protect them. The Trump administration is working on identifying shut down operations and following them when they go “independent.”
CHINA ADDS AIR BASE TO “TRAINING” IN LAOS – China has extended its presence in Laos following reports it had set up a training camp inside the country. Now, China appears to have built an air base within Laos as well. Satellite imagery showed Chinese military aircraft leaving from and landing in the region identified as the new air base. Beijing has now claimed the base is to train Laotian pilots to fly Chinese fighters.

SON OF BOLSONARO WINS BRAZIL’S PRESIDENTIAL FIRST ROUND – While his father sits in prison, Flavio Bolsonaro is beating the man who imprisoned him, Lula da Silver, in the first round of Brazil’s Presidential elections. He will face Lula in the final round. Bolsonaro was not the only member of his family to win that night, as four more family members won public office. Two of Flavio’s sons won seats in Brazil’s lower house. The latest polling shows a virtual tie between the two.
ICE UNMASKING STRUCK DOWN BY 9TH – An effort by progressive California to unmask ICE agents in an effort to help their street fighters locate and terrorize (or worse) ICE agents has been struck down by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
From the summary of the ruling, “In sum, if a state law directly regulates the governmental conduct of the United States without congressional authorization, it is void irrespective of whether the regulated activities are essential to federal functions or operations, and irrespective of the degree to which the state law interferes with such functions or operations.”
BRENNAN LAWSUIT DROPPED – Former CIA Director John Brennan will not be able to go forward with his lawsuit against the Trump administration. The lawsuit hoped to force the administration to “preserve records” for his potential defense against potential criminal charges. A Federal Judge threw out the “speculative” lawsuit.
CHRISTIAN-ONLY FRANCHISE CONSTITUTIONAL, COURT RULES – The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled a Christian-only auto repair franchise is not a constitutional violation. The company, Christian Brothers Automotive, only allows self-professing Christians to be franchise owners. There are 300 franchises nationwide.
GREENLAND GOLD COMING AMERICA’S WAY – President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social, “Massive Oil, Gas, and Mineral Exploration is getting ready to begin in our new and beautiful Greenland! There are Experts that are saying that the amount of easily available Oil is far greater than that of almost any land, anywhere in the World and, even more importantly, from a Security Purpose in the Defense and Offense of both the United States of America, and Europe, is second to none. Any future attack on the United States will have to come across Greenland, where our Defense will routinely knock down drones, missiles, or any other form of weapon not yet even conceived. It gives us time, location, and sightline, like nowhere else in the World!”

Houthis Building Missiles With Chinese Parts, Can Target Saudi, Israel: Report– www.ndtv.com News Source
EXCERPT:
Iran-backed Houthis are working towards building advanced ballistic missiles that could strike targets across Saudi Arabia and Israel, using components shipped from China, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
The weapons under development appear to be modelled on Iran’s Kheibar Shekan, a precision-guided ballistic missile capable of manoeuvring to evade air defence systems, according to an investigation by Conflict Armament Research (CAR), a group that tracks weapons and their supply chains in conflict zones.
A missile based on the Iranian design could travel up to 1,200 miles, potentially bringing all of Saudi Arabia and Israel within striking distance.
The development comes as Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia have intensified in recent weeks, adding to tensions over a Riyadh-led blockade. The attacks, alongside Iran’s continued strikes on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, have contributed to rising oil prices and caused US President Donald Trump to accuse the Houthis of behaving “very badly” in a post on his Social Truth platform.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels have morphed over the last decade from being a little-known group in northwest Yemen, to Iran’s most potent ally in the region and a central opponent of the United States and its allies across the Middle East.
While Iran’s other proxy forces have been depleted in recent years, the Houthis have taken center stage in the Middle East, offering yet another example of how a smaller, guerrilla-style force that’s dug in on the ground can cause asymmetric damage through hard-to-repel aerial attacks.
In support of their Iranian benefactors, the Houthis launched initial attacks on Israel not long after the U.S. joined the Jewish state in strikes across Iran on Feb. 28, sparking the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s richest nations and a key American ally, is now bearing the brunt of the Houthis’ attacks, which have killed at least 20 people at Saudi airports over the last week. Along with other allied groups, the militants have also attacked Saudi oil infrastructure, helping drive up global energy prices by threatening the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which, like the Strait of Hormuz, is a key maritime chokepoint for oil and gas shipments.

The Houthis are behaving very badly. I thought they learned their lesson a year ago when we bombed the HELL out of them and, at their request, stopped.
They’ve been silent for a long time, but now they’ve emerged again, probably at the behest of Iran, which is a Failing Nation, with No Navy, No Airforce, the World’s Worst Economy, and 301% Inflation, in a very nasty way, hitting Saudi Arabia, and purposefully trying to drive up Oil Prices, probably prior to the U.S. Elections — NOT NICE.

The countries said Monday that they “condemn in the strongest terms Iran’s use of violent attacks, including the acts of lethal plotting, arson, sabotage, cyber-attacks, and other hybrid activities against us and our partners.”
Linking the RAF Fairford incident to other recent attacks in Europe “targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists, and U.S. interests,” the countries said: “Any attempt by Iran to threaten, silence, intimidate, harass, harm, or coerce people on our territories through proxies or any other means is unacceptable.”

President Donald Trump said he is considering joining Saudi Arabia in its retaliation against Tehran-backed Houthis in Yemen after a deadly attack on Riyadh’s main airport, a move that could draw the U.S. further into a second front in the Iran war.
“We may. We’re going to look at it,” Trump told reporters outside the White House on Saturday when asked if the U.S. would back Saudi Arabian strikes. “We just found out about the recent attack. So, we’ll make a decision. We move very quickly.”
Two Saudi Arabian government officials told MS NOW that the kingdom is requesting “urgent defense support” from the U.S. following the attacks.
The officials, including a senior member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, did not want to be identified because of the matter’s sensitivity. They added that the U.S. needs to intervene “as soon as possible” to help the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen fight the Houthis.
The White House did not immediately respond to a CNBC request for comment.

The weekend attacks were the worst the country has suffered since the latest round of aggression broke out between the two. One man died on Sunday from an attack on the capital Royadh’s King Khalid International Airport, a day after a Houthi missile hit another terminal, killing 13.
The Houthis said they launched the attacks in retaliation for “brutal Saudi aggression” against areas they control in western Yemen.

Saturday’s strike on the Riyadh airport marks the deadliest attack since the Houthis seized power in neighboring Yemen over a decade ago. Reuters called it the “deadliest such attack in the kingdom in more than a decade.”
Following the attack, President Donald Trump hinted that the U.S. may consider hitting Houthi terror targets in Yemen. The U.S. military hasn’t taken on Houthis since May 2025, when it destroyed over 1000 terror targets as part of Operation Rough Rider.

“Israel will no longer turn its cheek to diplomatic attacks against it,” he said.
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband denied the building will close and said it will be known as the U.K. Mission. Miliband said the seven diplomats remaining will continue to work with Palestinians, but gave no details. The UK said based on the current agreement, it would not take reciprocal action such as expelling Israeli diplomats from London.

Netanyahu faces new accusations
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s former military secretary has accused the Israeli leader of altering official transcripts of phone calls from the morning of the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks.
Story continues below advertisement
The accusations by Maj. Gen. Avi Gil came in a wide-ranging interview with the right-wing Israel Hayom newspaper.
In excerpts of the interview published Thursday, Gil accused Netanyahu of attempting to change records of their phone calls in the first hour of the attack, possibly in an attempt to shift blame for failures that morning from the prime minister to his advisers.
Gil said he reported the attempt, allegedly made by Netanyahu’s chief of staff, to the attorney general. Gil served as military secretary from 2021 to 2024.
In the interview, Gil also confirmed that a senior Egyptian intelligence official had visited Israel shortly before the Oct. 7 attack. Asked whether there had been a warning, Gil said he did not know what message was relayed, but added: “Whoever met with someone or received something is still concealing it today.”
Gil’s full interview is expected to be published over the weekend, and an interview with an Israeli TV channel is also planned.
The report comes as Netanyahu, Israel’s longest-serving prime minister, is seeking re-election on Oct. 27. His Likud party told Israel Hayom that Gil’s comments are part of an attempt to oust Netanyahu from power, the paper said.
EU prepares ‘support mission’ for Lebanon
European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Thursday that the bloc is preparing a “support mission” to train and advise Lebanon’s army and security forces, though that won’t replace U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon whose mandate expires at the end of the year.
Story continues below advertisement
Kallas said during a visit to Beirut that Lebanese authorities formally asked the EU for this. She added that she expects the mission to be set up by EU foreign ministers on Monday.
Lebanese officials have previously pushed to extend the mandate of the U.N. force known as UNIFIL, but extension seems unlikely to pass a vote at the U.N. Security Council.
After the latest Israel-Hezbollah war, much of southern Lebanon is now occupied by Israeli forces, and an agreement to transfer control from Israel to the Lebanese army has largely stalled. The exit of U.N. peacekeepers has raised concerns that Israel might extend its occupation and that the Iran-backed Hezbollah militants could exploit the security vacuum.
BIDEN’S DOJ STALKED PARENTS OPPOSED TO WOKE SCHOOLS – Parents who dared speak out against progressive policies in American public schools were tracked and harassed by the FBI. If you dared go to a school board meeting and speak out against pro-transgender policies, or gay porn in school libraries, Biden’s FBI viewed you as a national security risk.
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon stated, “Under the Biden Administration, parents were the enemy. They were labeled as terrorists, targeted, and investigated by a government weaponized against them. That era is over. SHARIA GAINING FAVOR AMONG AMERICAN YOUTH – Thanks in large part to great efforts by progressive-controlled government schools promoting Islam and excoriating Christianity, a new poll reveals 4 in 10 young Americans have a favorable view of Sharia, Islamic Law.
The poll indicts the public education system, which has fallen to insurrectionist progressives. These “teachers” are more aligned with Chairman Mao and Osama Bin Laden than they are with George Washington and Jesus Christ.
FRANCE ISLAMIST-PROGRESSIVE RIOTS CONTINUE – Under the guise of “education reform,” which is mostly demanding more resources and creating policies aligned with the Progressive-Islamist alliance, riots across France in most major cities continue unabated. IN WAKE OF MASS “MIGRANT INVASION,” SPAIN’S PM FORCED TO CALL SNAP ELECTIONS – Spaniards are joining the growing national protests against their country’s policies of open borders and the state’s attempt to destroy their national identity. The pressure is mounting on the regime in power, the progressives. They rule under their current Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, who rules thanks to a coalition of leftists.
His own party fared worse than the pro-Spanish party in the last election (which finished first but was kept out of power by the far-left coalition). Now, Sanchez must call a Snap election before any hope of winning another election (if he even makes it to that point) dies as the resistance to his Spain-hating policies grows.
SOMALI TEEN PLOTTED MASS MURDER IN MALL OF AMERICA – The FBI caught another wanna-be terrorist before they could act by first seemingly enabling their actions. Sheikhdoon Abdullahi Mohamud, an 18-year-old Somali American, was arrested and accused of plotting to kill Americans in the Mall of America. He was going to use an AK-47 and 200 rounds of ammo. The teen purchased the inert AK-47, and the ammo, from the FBI. This is how the arrest was made.
The DOJ released a statement that, in part, exclaimed, “The FBI rendered the AK-47 rifle inert prior to the transaction. During the sale of the firearm and ammunition, Mohamud reaffirmed his plan to use the firearm and ammunition to shoot people at the Mall of America”
CCP AGENT CAUGHT SPYING ON TAIWANESE AMERICANS – The DOJ has arrested Wanying “Heather” Zeng, 34, under charges she was spying on Taiwanese Americans for the Chinese government. Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli added, “Ms. Zhang is charged with acting at the direction of Chinese government officials to spy on the family of a senior Taiwanese official here in the United States. She violated our laws and will be held accountable in our courts. We will aggressively investigate and prosecute illegal foreign operations on American soil.”
HAMAS SUPPORTERS MARCH ON OCTOBER 7 – Hamas supporters in London decided to march on the 3rd anniversary of the October 7 slaughter of innocent Israelis by the organization they are marching for. The march was not seen as racist by British police, despite it clearly sending a message to the Jews that they’re still next. It is an embrace of the slaughter of the Jewish race, nothing more.

Canada’s embrace of euthanasia, which was supposed to be a measure of last resort for the truly terminally and pain-ridden ill, has led it to expand the reasons people can apply for state-assisted suicide. We can add to that growing list not being able to cook for your family. Now, even euthanasia supporters are raising the alarm on Canada’s seemingly careless reliance on suicide to cure its social and economic woes.

Syria could join a Saudi-backed military offensive against the Houthis in Yemen by deploying thousands of troops, Axios has reported, citing US officials.
Yemen’s internationally recognized government forces have launched a major counteroffensive to recapture territory seized by the Iranian-backed Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, including areas around the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait. The Saudi-led coalition has backed the operation with extensive airstrikes against Houthi positions.
According to an Axios report, Riyadh and Damascus are discussing the deployment of up to 20,000 Syrian troops. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who previously led the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), is reportedly considering the proposal but has yet to make a decision.
The issue came up during al-Sharaa’s meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh on Tuesday, the sources said. Saudi Arabia is seeking to reinforce Yemeni government forces, which US officials described as less well-trained than the Houthis.

A plane was hit by a projectile during a Houthi missile attack in Saudi Arabia on Thursday as images showed the severe damage. The Saudia Airlines aircraft caught fire while parked at a terminal at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport amid a fresh wave of attacks on the kingdom. Three people briefed on the incident told Reuters that shrapnel from an interception or another projectile had struck the commercial aircraft, leaving it heavily damaged. No passengers were believed to have been on board at the time, although the sources could not rule out injuries linked to the incident. Footage shows thick black smoke and flames rising from the airport following the incident.
The Iran-backed rebels claimed responsibility for the attack on Riyadh airport, saying a ballistic missile had caused damage, although the group did not provide evidence for its claim
A witness told the Associated Press that several explosions were heard across the Saudi capital, including a large blast at the international airport.
Hundreds of flights to and from Riyadh were cancelled in the aftermath, according to flight-tracking site FlightAware.
The latest violence came a day after Saudi Arabia said one person had been killed in an attack on Riyadh airport, while two others were killed in a separate strike on Abha airport in the southwest.

Saudi Arabia’s civil defence agency meanwhile issued a warning of potential danger in the south, the first alert since the Houthis launched an attack on Riyadh over the weekend.
The alert, which asked people to remain indoors and avoid open areas, was lifted a short while later.
G7 leaders representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States said in a statement “we call on the Houthis to immediately cease all military actions”.
“All threats and attacks against civilian shipping, and to return to the political process in good faith,” it added, while calling on Iran “to end its arming of and support for the Houthis”.
Britain has agreed to provide some military support to Saudi Arabia, UK defence minister Luke Pollard said, while France also pledged to help secure Saudi energy infrastructure, a diplomatic source told AFP.
“This in no way involves taking part in the conflict with the Houthis,” the French source added.
The Houthis have carried out attacks against facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu.
The East-West Pipeline – a crucial crude oil export route – has also been shut down following drone attacks launched from Iraq, according to Riyadh.
The Houthis have been taking islands, ports, and Red Sea coast territory in a bid to rescue Iran from U.S. onslaught. The new territory enables them to attack vessels traversing the Red Sea (which they’ve already done). The Saudis have responded by forming an army to remove them. President Trump is in talks with the Houthis, and the Saudis have called for a two-week ceasefire.

U.S. officials reportedly held undisclosed talks with Iran-backed Houthi representatives in Oman over the weekend as the rebels make major battlefield gains against Saudi-backed forces in Yemen.
The alleged meeting took place at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat and was facilitated in part by the Omani government, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing five sources familiar with the matter. The talks indicate Washington is communicating directly with the Houthis even as the Trump administration continues to formally designate the group as a foreign terrorist organization, according to the Federal Register.
Saudi Arabia Threatens Retaliation After Iran-Backed Houthis Targeted Mecca with Drone Attack– slaynews.com News Source
EXCERPT:
Saudi Arabia accused Iran-backed Houthi rebels of launching a one-way attack drone toward Mecca, prompting the kingdom to declare the security of Islam’s holiest sites a “red line” as the escalating Gulf conflict places growing pressure on critical global energy routes.
The Saudi-led coalition said the drone was intercepted while heading toward Mecca and warned that it would take “necessary and deterrent measures” in response.
“The security of the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims is a red line, and the Joint Forces Command of the coalition will not hesitate to take the necessary and deterrent measures against the Terrorist Houthi Militia,” the kingdom said.
The Houthis denied targeting Mecca, with Hazem al-Assad of the group’s politburo calling the accusation a “worn-out lie.”
The incident comes as the conflict increasingly threatens Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure and two of the world’s most strategically important maritime chokepoints.

Yemen’s Houthis on Wednesday said they shot down a Saudi fighter jet, claiming they used munitions made by the group to target the warplane.
“The Yemeni Armed Forces, with Allah’s aid and grace, succeeded in shooting down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet while it was carrying out hostile operations,” Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said on social media, while accusing Saudi Arabia of launching 450 strikes.
He said the aircraft had been targeted “using a locally made air-to-air missile”.
The spokesman also dismissed Saudi claims that the Houthis had targeted Islam’s holy city of Mecca.
“Our operations target its oil facilities and military bases, which are far removed from the sacred sites,” he said, adding that “fabrications and lies propagated by the criminal al-Saud regime cannot deceive anyone.”
The Saudi coalition vowed retaliation, warning that the security of holy sites was a “red line”.
“The security of the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims is a red line, and the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition will not hesitate to take the necessary and deterrent measures against the terrorist Houthi militia,” the coalition said in a statement shared by spokesman Turki al-Maliki on X.

The fall of Mokha was a lesson for Riyadh about alliances: the Mecca pact produced a courier, America’s older allies produced restrictions on American access, and the only partnership that has actually fought Iran’s network this year has an American hand on it. This is the lesson for Washington, and it has a date on it.
Consider the geometry the Houthis left behind. Hormuz is running at a fraction of pre-war volume — Tehran calls it closed, Washington insists it is open, and IMF PortWatch counted six transits on Sept. 6 against a pre-crisis norm of near 85 a day. The Houthis now hold the ground overlooking Bab el-Mandeb, and are threatening to close it altogether if Washington intervenes.
The Houthis have successfully seized the seaport of Mokha, a pro-government Yemeni port. The attack was sudden. It captured the entire city off-guard as residents quickly moved to evacuate it. The Saudis have responded by hitting Mokha’s now captured airport.

Mokha residents said Houthi fighters moved into the city after fierce clashes with pro-government forces on Wednesday night, prompting many families to flee their homes.
“The takeover came without warning. Panic spread throughout the area, forcing people to flee amid distressing scenes of injured people lying in the streets with no-one there to help them,” one man told BBC Arabic’s Middle East Lifeline programme.
Another man said that Houthi fighters were patrolling the streets of Mokha on Thursday, while government offices and shops were closed.
“At the moment, we don’t know what Ansar Allah will do,” he added, using the group’s formal name. “Everyone is afraid for their safety.”
Many displaced families are heading east towards the city of Aden, where Yemen’s internationally recognised Presidential Leadership Council and government are based.
“We fled with our children and kept running. We have no bedding, no home, nothing with us. Everything was destroyed within an hour. They didn’t even give us a chance or warn us beforehand,” one woman told BBC Arabic.
