NUUK, Greenland — Denmark’s prime minister has told the U.S. during a visit to Greenland that “you cannot annex another country,” even with the argument that international security is at stake.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, meanwhile, said on Friday that Copenhagen “should focus on the fact that the Greenlanders don’t want to be a part of Denmark.”
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was wrapping up a three-day visit to the strategically critical Arctic island on Friday as U.S. President Donald Trump seeks control of Greenland. He argues that Greenland, a semiautonomous territory belonging to the Kingdom of Denmark, is critical to U.S. security.
Trump’s sweeping tariffs sent shockwaves through Wall Street, wiping about $3.1 trillion in market value in its largest one-day decline since the Covid pandemic.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 4 percent. The S&P 500 fell 4.8 percent.
And the tech-focused Nasdaq was down 6 percent — fuelled by declines from Apple, Nvidia and Amazon.
When Journos Report a Deportation ‘Sob Story,’ Be Sure to Check the Context and Fine Print– townhall.com Source Link Excerpt:
Even as President Trump’s approval on the economy slips, his support on immigration remains strong. Americans solidly approve of his mass deportations policy, knowing full well that millions of people were allowed to enter the country illegally under the Biden administration. Millions of convicted and accused criminals, as well as people with standing deportation orders, are among them. Quite frankly, these numbers are a good start, but they’re just a start, given what the new president’s team and inherited and the enormity of the resulting task at hand:
EXCLUSIVE: ICE arrested 113,000 migrants, deported over 100,000 since Trump’s return on Jan. 20, The Post has learned.https://t.co/xLloRknLsB
Deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement surged above 100,000 since President Trump returned to the White House in January — as he maintains his promise to boot illegal migrants, alleged gangbangers and suspected terrorists from the United States, The Post has learned. ICE officials have made 113,000 arrests and carried out “north of” 100,000 deportations since Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration, a Department of Homeland Security source told The Post Monday. “He’s doing what he was voted in to do. Point blank!” an ICE source said. It wasn’t immediately clear how many detainees are convicted criminals, the status of their cases and their national origins — though sources believe the majority are being removed to Mexico. ICE has since “maxed out” its detention space and is asking Congress to fund additional beds to support the Trump administration’s deportation campaign that yielded 32,000 arrests in its first 50 days.

During her hit on Fox Business Network Monday, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce ignored Trump’s military threats to acquire Greenland, claiming instead the US only wants to protect them from foreign threats.
.
When has Greenland been threatened?
Oh, wait. The U.S. just did.
VARNEY: Now this, President Trump did not rule out using military force to acquire Greenland from Denmark.
State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce joins me now. Tammy, how far will Mr. Trump go to control Greenland?
BRUCE: Well, you know, this is not, and good morning, Stu, nice to see you.

After a French court found far-right leader and former presidential frontrunner Marine Le Pen guilty of embezzlement on Monday—a conviction that will bar her from holding political office for five years—some of President Donald Trump’s closest allies are boosting baseless conspiracy theories alleging that Le Pen’s conviction is part of a global scheme to keep right-wing populists from holding office.
Le Pen is reportedly accused of wrongfully diverting $5 million in funds earmarked for the European Parliament to staffers of her nationalist, xenophobic party, the National Rally, over a 12-year period. The verdict makes her ineligible to run in the country’s next presidential election in 2027—and comes after she was polling at 37 percent, more than 10 points ahead of her closest challenger. Le Pen has run for that office three times before, and became more popular as right-wing political parties across Europe rose in prominence in recent years; in the 2022 presidential runoff, Le Pen earned 41.5 percent of votes to President Emmanuel Macron’s 58.6 percent. (Macron is term-limited.)
Crowd At Anti-Hegseth Town Hall In Deep Red District Reeks Of Astroturf– www.newsbusters.org Source Link Excerpt:
Sunday’s edition of MSNBC’s The Weekend featured a clip from a town hall in Indiana’s 5th Congressional District. In November, Trump and Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz carried the district handily: by 16 and 18 points, respectively.
Yet the crowd overwhelmingly and raucously cheered the suggestion that the congresswoman should demand Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s resignation, given the Signal chat that mistakenly included a journalist.
Co-host Symone Sanders claimed the cheering people were district “constituents,” and co-host Michael Steele took it a step further, saying they were Republicans. The show provided no evidence to support either statement. Did MSNBC make any effort to confirm the residence or registration of the crowd members?
Hypocrisy-proof Steele concluded the segment by saying:
“This sets up additional narratives, I think, for voters as well as journalists to dig a little bit deeper and find out a little bit more.”
Stephen A. Smith goes scorched Earth on media’s SignalGate obsession: “Were y’all talking about 13 lives lost in Afghanistan?”– www.louderwithcrowder.com Source Link Excerpt:
Stephen A. Smith won’t change the way he votes any more than Bill Maher or Jon Stewart will. It’s still entertaining and valuable when he calls out the left and the media (but I repeat myself) to a mainstream audience that wouldn’t typically hear such things. Like with SignalGate. And how the people calling for Pete Hegseth to be fired weren’t this outraged when the People Who Controlled Joe Biden Adminstration’s incompetence led to thirteen service members being killed during the Afghanistan withdrawal.
To recap SignalGate, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, or someone working for him, “accidentally” invited anti-Trump jorunalismer Jeffrey Goldberg to a group chat about the Houthis being taken out. And because of Waltz’s f*ck up… the media and the left (but I repeat myself) still butthurt they couldn’t collect Hegseth’s scalp are demanding HE resign.
To be clear: Waltz SHOULD resign. This was a colossal f*ck up.
Stephen A., who is no fan of the Defense Secretary, thinks Afghanistan was worse.
We operate in a biased and partisan industry. Sometimes we can be unfair to the left, the media, and the People Who Controlled Joe Biden administration. I get that. It’s one thing for us to blame the previous team for Afghanistan. So here are the families of the servicemembers who lost their lives during the incompetent withdrawal blaming them.
The left and the media (but I repeat myself) weren’t upset about this. They didn’t call for anyone to be held accountable. Yet because a reporter was added to a group chat by the National Security Advisor, the Defense Secretary needs to either resign or be fired.
The ridiculous defenses—ranging from lies about the contents of the messages to conspiracy theories about how the reporter got added to the conversation in the first place—are even rankling some Trump administration allies, who told Politico that President Donald Trump and his team need to own up to the error, fire those involved, and end the controversy.
But that message has clearly not been heard by congressional Republicans, who are still defending the monumental fuck-up that risked U.S. troops who were carrying out an attack on a rebel group in Yemen—even as more details emerge confirming that classified information was shared on an insecure platform.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, said that he stands by the Trump administration officials who were involved—including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who shared in the chat the exact timing of the forthcoming attack and the weapons systems that would be used.
“President Trump and his team have admitted that having a journalist in the group text was wrong, will be reviewed and falls in the category of ‘lessons learned’ so that it doesn’t happen again. I think President Trump has handled this matter well. Further, I believe that all the participants in the chat were under the impression they were using an appropriate and secure form of communication. This will also fall into the category of ‘lessons learned,’” Graham said in a statement.

The Israeli American Trump Mega-Donor Behind Speech Crackdowns– www.truthdig.com Source Link Excerpt:
The Trump administration’s effort to deport a Columbia University graduate student, Mahmoud Khalil, in retaliation for Khalil’s role in campus protests opposing Israel’s war in Gaza, showed the lengths the White House is prepared to go to police speech about Israel.
The administration’s unprecedented decision to seek the deportation of a U.S. permanent resident without bringing any criminal charges has an overlooked ally, however: the largest financier of Trump’s three presidential campaigns, Israeli American billionaire Miriam Adelson.
Adelson’s support for the administration’s campaign to stifle criticism of Israel on college campuses isn’t a new focus, but her alignment with the levers of state powers to implement her vision are unprecedented. In fact, tax documents reveal that she is directly overseeing a social media campaign targeting Khalil and Columbia University.
Ask PolitiFact: Is Tren de Aragua invading the US, as Trump says? Legal experts say no.– www.politifact.com Source Link Excerpt:
As justification for deporting some immigrants in the country illegally without due process, President Donald Trump said the U.S. is under invasion.
“Evidence irrefutably demonstrates that (Tren de Aragua) has invaded the United States,” a March 15 White House proclamation said. Tren de Aragua is a Venezuela-based gang with some U.S. presence.
The proclamation says Tren de Aragua “is a hybrid criminal state that is perpetrating an invasion of and predatory incursion into the United States,” and so any person 14 years or older who is a Tren de Aragua member and who has neither U.S. citizenship nor permanent residency can be arrested, detained and deported using the Alien Enemies Act.
Trump and his allies have referred to illegal immigration as an invasion for years, and Trump’s move to use the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for deportations hinges on this characterization. To invoke the law, the U.S. has to be at war or under invasion by a foreign
CBS Paints Trump As Worse Than Venezuelan Gangs– www.newsbusters.org Source Link Excerpt:
In the moral battle between President Donald Trump and the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, the media have chosen a side. The foreign gangsters are less morally questionable than the president.
The Trump administration sent a plane stuffed with alleged Tren de Aragua members to El Salvador, which is apparently more of a crime than whatever the gangsters did in America.
There are legal issues here. An Obama-appointed federal judge tried to order Trump not to send the plane. The administration didn’t release their names or their offenses, so some may not be gangsters. The flight can be debated. But in today’s media, the first objective is to present Trump as a malignant actor. The tone of his coverage should be all-negative, all the time. There’s nothing resembling an “achievement” on immigration.

Trump Declares Biden Auto-Pen Pardons ‘Void’ – But now What?– lidblog.com Source Link Excerpt:
President Donald Trump has declared former President Joe Biden’s fake auto-pen pardons null and void. But what happens now?
Probably nothing.
The fact is, the courts will never touch this case. It is too fraught with the possibilities of interfering with presidential privilege. Sure, if the Trump White House arrested someone involved here, the courts might be forced into it. But, shy of that, no court will touch this case.
Further, I’d bet that the Trump White House won’t do anything past this political proclamation, either.
