The committee passed a resolution on the 22nd during a plenary session to implement the hearing plan and summon witnesses and references. The session was originally intended for a legislative hearing on prosecutorial reform, but Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party chair of the committee, unexpectedly added the hearing plan for Chief Justice Jo to the agenda. As PPP members protested and walked out, the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party proceeded with the decision. In the hearing plan, the Democratic Party claimed, “Chief Justice Jo violated procedural and legal regulations by issuing an unreasonable ruling related to the trial of a specific candidate (President Lee Jae-myung) ahead of the presidential election, and suspicions have arisen that he undermined the independence and political neutrality of the judiciary by allegedly conspiring in advance through a ‘four-person meeting’ with Han Duck-soo and others.”

Authorities in Moldova said they had carried out 250 raids and detained dozens of people on Monday as part of an investigation into an alleged Russia-backed plan to incite “mass riots” and destabilise the country in the run-up to critical parliamentary elections.

The raids targeted more than 100 people and took place in multiple localities across the country, police said.

Seventy-four people were detained for up to 72 hours, said Victor Furtuna, Moldova’s chief prosecutor from the Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases.

Moldova’s police said that the unrest plot was “coordinated from the Russian Federation, through criminal elements.”

Furtuna said that most of the suspects “systematically traveled” to Serbia, where they received training and that they were aged between 19 and 45 years old.

Moldovans will vote on Sunday to choose the new 101-seat legislature, in an election many view as a choice between the country’s continued path toward European Union membership or closer ties with Russia.

“The [Minneapolis] church shooting, the Charlie Kirk shooting, these are different,” said Greg Rogers, who spent 30 years in the FBI, many of them as a SWAT sniper.

It’s unclear what commentators on the left think they achieve by labeling conservatives as Nazis, the president as Hitler, or ICE agents as kidnappers. What is clear is that such rhetoric does nothing to promote public safety. In fact, it has fueled escalating threats against those the left considers politically incorrect. That is why Acting U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli’s remarks were both timely and necessary.

According to Essayli, the left “lays out the gasoline and the matches, getting people riled up in the hope that someone will do what they want—burn the place down.”

The ironic part? The left has, in fact, burned the place down when it doesn’t get its way. Actions speak louder than words, and in this case, both their words and actions speak volumes.

According to ICE, assaults on federal officers have surged by nearly 1,000 percent. This spike can be traced directly to the left’s rhetoric.

How does the left expect people to react when they convince some voters that ICE is racially profiling and “kidnapping” people off the street? As Essayli noted, things have gotten so bad that receiving threats has become just another part of the job. In other words, just another Monday.

And the most irritating part? The left dismisses it all as nothing more than a fight for democracy against fascism. Leftist officials will not even condemn blatant acts of terrorism.

The investigation into the Russian arms smuggling was carried out by the Italian online newspaper Linkiesta. Russia‘s so-called shadow fleet has helped to transport the munitions to Italian ports.

President Donald Trump’s Department of Justice weighed in Monday against the ban on high-powered firearms that Illinois and Gov. JB Pritzker passed after the Highland Park Fourth of July mass shooting in 2022 but found itself on the defensive as an appellate court justice grilled an assistant attorney general about whether “facts matter” as she tried to justify the administration’s position.

In arguing before the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, Harmeet Dhillon, the U.S. Justice Department’s assistant attorney general for civil rights, said the nation has a “strong interest” in ensuring that the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms is “not relegated to a second-class right” and criticized claims from state officials that certain guns covered by the ban are suited more for military operations than routine self-defense.

But Judge Frank Easterbrook interrupted Dhillon early during the five minutes the court allowed her to speak even though the federal government is not a party to the case. Easterbrook noted the legal challenge from state officials resulted from a ruling by a district court in southern Illinois that determined the ban was unconstitutional, while a court in northern Illinois previously ruled a similar ban was legally sound.

“Suppose the (southern Illinois) district court had found every contested issue of fact in favor of the state. Would that affect your review of the statute’s constitutionality?” asked Easterbrook, who was appointed to the bench in the 1980s by Republican President Ronald Reagan.

On Sunday, a crowd of 80,000 people — plus scores more watching online — memorialized Charlie Kirk. The event, held at a State Farm Stadium, home to the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, brought together the biggest names in Christian music while also featuring a predictable lineup of MAGA loyalists. There were declarations that Donald Trump was chosen by God himself to punish evildoers, capped off with a rousing speech by Trump himself that seethed in hatred for his political opponents. The event was bizarre — unless you’re acquainted with the liturgy and theology of Christian nationalism.

In many ways, this was one of Christian nationalism’s biggest and loudest days. It was clear that in Kirk, this movement had found its icon — an exemplar of their brand of nationalistic faith. In life, Kirk tried to set himself apart from the movement that’s come to define his legacy. “I’ve never described myself as a Christian nationalist,” he said during one campus debate months before his assassination. “I”m a Christian, and I’m a nationalist.” But it’s a distinction without a difference. Kirk followed his own rebuttal by citing scripture to justify a faith-infused nationalism. The memorial of his life followed a similar pattern; gesturing at scripture, and dripping in the nationalistic fervor that’s come to define modern conservative politics.

There was a sermon by Pastor Rob McCoy, which culminated in a call for people to accept Jesus as their personal savior. But what followed wasn’t a moment of solemn, lingering, prayer. Instead, the crowd was called to stand for the national anthem.

TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried issued a statement this week strongly opposing the First District Court of Appeals ruling that declared Florida’s ban on open carry unconstitutional. Fried argued the decision “paves the way for open carry in the State of Florida” and claimed it will make Floridians less safe.

Fried referenced rising gun violence nationwide, warning that allowing open carry could embolden criminals and cause public confusion. She urged law enforcement to hold off on recognizing the ruling until a final legal judgment is issued. “This is a moment in history when we need to promote safer environments, not embolden those who could abuse the ruling’s intent to sow seeds of terror,” Fried said.

But the argument raises an important question: why would legally allowing open carry embolden criminals? By definition, criminals do not follow the law. Whether open carry is legal or not has little bearing on those already willing to break gun laws. Instead, restrictions primarily affect law-abiding citizens, leaving them with fewer options for exercising their rights.

Florida already allows concealed carry without a permit, so there is no reason to treat open carry any differently. The vast majority of states that permit open carry have not experienced the dire consequences opponents often predict. Instead, these laws simply recognize the rights of responsible citizens and give them the choice of how they carry.
