Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) credited Charlie Kirk for his work engaging young men on college and university campuses, saying he did a better job than the Democratic Party in the last election.
“What he was able to achieve in terms of organizing the campuses, engaging these young men, addressing their grievances, giving them some sense of hope, that someone cared, that they mattered, that they were seen, he was able to produce and organize around that in a deeply meaningful way,” he said on Wednesday at the Clinton Global Initiative’s annual meeting in New York City.
“The Democratic Party was nowhere to be found on the issue.”
Despite their political differences, the governor extended a podcast invite to the late Turning Point USA cofounder earlier this year to discuss the issues that young men face today. Kirk was the first guest on This is Gavin Newsom.
Newsom also gave credit to Steve Bannon, one of his early podcast guests, for galvanizing young men in the conservative movement.
“The reason I had them on [the podcast] was this issue,” he said, “because they have weaponized this grievance and electorally, they achieved remarkable results.”

A new photo released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation related to a deadly shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, Texas, reveals anti-ICE messages were scrawled on shell casings meant to take out agents.
Early on Wednesday morning, a lone gunman opened fire on an ICE facility, with the messages on the shell casings explaining why their place of work was under fire. The gunman, described in initial reports as a white male, shot himself after officers responding to the incident confronted him.
According to ICE Director Todd Lyons, the shooter used a sniper rifle to attack the facility. During a press conference, FBI Special Agent in Charge R. Joseph Rothrock stated that the detention center, located in Dallas, Texas, was likely targeted due to the suspect’s hatred for ICE and their mission to enforce immigration laws.
“What I can also tell you is that early evidence that we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” he told reporters. The incident at the Dallas facility is the second in Texas this year.
On July 4, a group of angry individuals stormed an ICE facility located near Fort Worth. One employee was injured in the neck as a result of the assault. A total of a dozen suspects were then arrested in connection with the attack.
“This is just the most recent example of this type of attack,” Rothrock said.

The U.S. Secret Service has arrested a man in the nation’s capitol for allegedly pointing a laser at Marine One while President Donald Trump was on board, an incident the agency said could have resulted in a midair collision.
In an affidavit on Sept. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, a Secret Service agent said he encountered the suspect, identified as Jacob Samuel Winkler, in the early hours of Sept. 20 while patrolling the secure area near Constitution Avenue NW. At the time, Marine One was airborne, carrying the president southbound from the White House South Grounds and crossing over The Ellipse.
The agent reported seeing the suspect walking shirtless along the south sidewalk of Constitution Avenue, “talking to himself and being loud.” Because the area was poorly lit, the agent shone a flashlight on him. In apparent retaliation, Winkler allegedly pointed a red laser at the agent’s face, briefly disorienting him. As this occurred, Marine One flew low and directly above where the two stood.
“The rotor noise was loud, and the aircraft appeared large overhead,” the agent wrote. The agent said that as he approached, Winkler looked up, aimed the same red laser pointer toward Marine One, and activated the beam.
Doing so posed “a risk of flash blindness and pilot disorientation,” particularly during low-level flight near the Washington Monument, as well as other helicopters operated by the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Park Police, the agent told the judge.

In a statement on Monday Gen Syrskyi said: “Control has been restored in seven settlements and nine more have been cleared of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups.
