Belgium euthanized more than 1,100 people suffering from common ailments whose deaths were not expected in the short term in 2025, a new government report reveals, as the country’s assisted death regime reaches record levels.

The Federal Commission for the Control and Evaluation reports that 1,117 deaths, 24.9% of all registered euthanasia cases, involved patients who were not approaching an imminent death.

The findings expose how far the practice extends beyond terminal patients in their final days, encompassing chronic conditions, psychiatric illness, and cognitive disorders such as dementia.

Belgium recorded 4,486 euthanasia deaths in 2025, a 12.4% increase from the previous year and approximately 4% of all deaths nationwide.

Nearly One in Four Were Not Facing Imminent Death

The commission’s report identifies more than a quarter of the registered cases as involving people whose deaths were not “expected in the short term.”

Those patients had conditions described as incurable, including multiple chronic ailments common among older people.

Some cases involved psychiatric or cognitive conditions.

Although most people euthanized were elderly, the 2025 figures also include a teenager.

The European Parliament has approved a resolution condemning the Muslim Brotherhood and calling for stronger action against Islamist influence in European institutions. The resolution is a significant development in the continent’s efforts to combat political extremism.

The center-right European People’s Party spearheaded the resolution, which follows the Trump administration’s designation of the Muslim Brotherhood and four affiliated branches as terrorist organizations.

French European Parliament member Céline Imart, who sponsored the measure, celebrated the vote as a breakthrough.

“This is a historic victory because it is a European first,” Imart said, describing the resolution as Europe’s first parliamentary action specifically confronting Islamist infiltration and the Muslim Brotherhood.

The resolution warns that organized Islamist networks threaten democratic institutions, religious freedoms, the rule of law and equality between men and women.

It calls for greater scrutiny of foreign funding, particularly involving organizations connected to Qatar and Turkey, and increased transparency surrounding European Union funding of groups suspected of Muslim Brotherhood ties.

Lawmakers also urged the European Council to consider whether Brotherhood-linked individuals and organizations should be added to the EU’s terrorist list.

Researchers from New York’s Binghamton University have developed a wallpaper that generates electricity from the air. The technology is called Moist-electric generators, which have existed for years, but is now closer to becoming practical.

Wallpaper indoors holds an aesthetic value. Other than that, they don’t do much. But a new wallpaper-style device could pull electricity from the moisture already present in the indoor air. At the same time, it also acts as an indoor climate regulator; it absorbs excess moisture from the room and also releases stored moisture to increase humidity.

The study transforms a single sheet of wallpaper into a humidity-responsive platform that not only harvests energy but also helps maintain indoor climate, the researchers say. They also add that this new wallpaper can fuel low-power-demanding gadgets like sensors or wireless modules.

Moist-electric generators (MEGs) are devices that convert humidity into electricity. They have been around for years and have emerged as a reliable energy-harvesting source without an external fuel source. But most of the previous generators have focused on outdoor humidity, “because there is a lot of moisture out there that is an excellent energy resource,” says Seokheun Choi of Binghamton University.

Texas Says It’s Fixed a Glitch That Delayed Nearly 600,000 Voter Registrations– www.cnet.com

Like in many states, Texans can register to vote or update their registration when renewing their driver’s license or getting a new one.

But the state of Texas has blamed a software glitch related to this system for more than half a million voter registration delays. The extensive backlog of voting registration applications, which reportedly began to accumulate a year ago, is now the subject of a lawsuit filed by a pair of voter advocacy groups: the League of Women Voters Texas and MOVE Texas Civic Fund. The state says it has already fixed the issue and filed the applications.

The suit characterizes the delay as part of a pattern of voter suppression that has disenfranchised voters in Texas. Filed in Bexar County, Texas, the lawsuit names Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden and his office, as well as the Department of Public Safety and its director Freeman F. Martin.

Meanwhile, the office of the Texas Secretary of State told media this week that the delayed applications were filed to voters’ home districts and that the problem has been fixed. As a safeguard, a spokesperson for the secretary of state said anyone still affected by the problem will be able to file a provisional ballot. But according to a report from The Texas Tribune, county officials have found another system error has caused issues with another 15,000 registrations over the last month.

Now, counties are scrambling to fix those issues ahead of the start of early voting in the state on Oct. 19 for a high-profile midterm election season that has put the state in the national spotlight. Chris McGinn, executive director of the Texas Association of County Election Officials, told the Tribune, “Just when most counties were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, another unexpected backlog is being dropped on county voter registrars.”

Amodei said in an interview Saturday he would “absolutely not” vote for businessperson David Flippo in Nevada’s 2nd District. “I think the seat’s at risk,” he added, citing a string of stolen valor and financial allegations against Flippo.

“You say, well, the president endorsed him,” Amodei added. “It’s like, well whoever was advising the president on, ‘Hey, this would be a good place for you to go ahead and weigh in,’ gave him awful advice. The vetting process — quote unquote — must have been nearly non-existent.”

Amodei specifically cited a series of allegations against Flippo as disqualifying, for reportedly lying about his military service and also failing to file financial disclosures on time.

Scientists discover a natural compound that could protect the brain from too much salt– www.sciencedaily.com
News Source
EXCERPT:

Consuming too much salt can affect more than blood pressure. Growing evidence suggests that excessive salt intake may also interfere with memory, thinking, and emotional well-being. High salt (HS) consumption is already a major public health concern because of its connection to hypertension, but its potential effects on the brain make finding ways to reduce the damage even more important.

Researchers in Japan have identified a promising possibility in LPC70, a compound derived from soy. Previous research found that this ingredient could reduce high blood pressure and cognitive problems associated with a high-salt diet (HSD) in mice. The latest study takes a closer look at how it works, revealing that the compound influences important chemical signals in the brain and kidneys.

How a Soy Compound May Counter the Effects of Excess Salt

The research centers on prostaglandins (PGs), signaling molecules made from a fatty acid called arachidonic acid (AA). These substances act much like local hormones, helping regulate essential functions throughout the body.

In the cardiovascular system, prostaglandins help control blood pressure by balancing the widening and narrowing of blood vessels. Their effects in the brain are more complicated. Depending on which receptors they activate, they can trigger signals that either protect nerve cells or contribute to harmful processes, potentially affecting memory, thinking, and emotional responses.

LPC70 is a form of soy lysolecithin in which lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) accounts for more than 70% of the phospholipids. Although earlier experiments showed that LPC70 could ease salt-related hypertension and cognitive difficulties, scientists had not fully understood the mechanisms responsible, particularly its influence on prostaglandin signaling.

To investigate, a research team led by Professor Akihiro Mouri and Dr. Hisayoshi Kubota, working with Dr. Kazuhiro Kagotani, examined how LPC70 affected these signaling pathways in mice consuming a high-salt diet.

Dr. Kubota, the study’s first author, played a central role in the experiments. He assessed blood pressure, monitored behavioral changes, and analyzed molecular activity associated with prostaglandins. His work helped clarify how LPC70 produces different effects in the organs involved in salt-related cardiovascular and cognitive problems.

Prof. Mouri and Dr. Kubota are affiliated with the Department of Regulatory Science for Evaluation and Development of Pharmaceuticals & Devices at Fujita Health University Graduate School of Medical Science, as well as the International Center for Brain Science (ICBS) at Fujita Health University in Japan. Dr. Kagotani is affiliated with Tsuji Oil Mills Co., Ltd, in Japan and the Tsuji Health and Beauty Science Laboratory at Mie University, Japan.

Trump Threatens Jail Time for California Officials Over Alleged Noncitizen Voters › American Greatness– amgreatness.com

President Donald Trump is warning California election officials they could face lengthy prison sentences if they count ballots cast by suspected illegal aliens and noncitizens in the upcoming midterm elections.

“They will all go to jail for a long period of time!!!” Trump declared Friday on Truth Social, sharing a Department of Justice letter warning Los Angeles County officials of potential criminal consequences for allowing illegal votes to be counted.

The warning follows a federal lawsuit filed Thursday against California after the Justice Department provided election officials with citizenship data identifying approximately 20,000 registered voters flagged by the Department of Homeland Security as possible noncitizens.

Federal officials gave California 48 hours to compare the names against state voter records and requested that ballots associated with individuals whose citizenship could not be verified be set aside pending confirmation.

The administration maintains that knowingly allowing noncitizens to vote in federal elections violates federal law and could expose election officials to criminal prosecution.

PARIS — France’s interior minister offered his resignation over the weekend’s rioting and looting in several major cities, but President Emmanuel Macron asked him to stay to respond to police needs in an emergency situation, Macron’s office said Monday.

Macron refused Laurent Nuñez’s resignation “given the need for continued command of law enforcement in the current context,” according to the statement.

He instructed Nuñez “to take all necessary steps to ensure full transparency about the failures in planning and intelligence-gathering that led to the violence,” Macron’s office said.

Macron also asked for the introduction of “new policing tactics on the ground as quickly as possible” to put an end to violent events.

On Sunday evening, groups of people set fires to trash bins, bicycles and other objects in the streets and looted businesses in Paris, Lyon, Marseille and other cities, a day after major violence erupted Saturday during nationwide protests against rising living costs and poor conditions in schools. At least 2,400 people were arrested across the country.

When Does Religious Belief Become Hate Speech in California? – PJ Media– pjmedia.com
News Source
EXCERPT:

California’s next workplace lesson comes with an uncomfortable question: When does a religious belief become “hate speech”?

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1803 on September 27. Beginning Jan. 1, 2028, employers covered by California’s harassment-training law must teach workers to recognize, report, and confront certain workplace remarks.

The legislation gives employers a new assignment but leaves a contentious phrase open to interpretation.

The law addresses workplace speech that “vilifies, humiliates, or incites hatred” based on protected characteristics, including religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. Existing training already covers harassment involving gay and transgender employees. AB 1803 adds no separate course or mandatory hours, and employers may write their own lessons. It even says training on unlawful harassment and abusive conduct can satisfy the new requirement.

Those limits matter, but so does the lack of a precise statutory definition of the speech the bill names.

Consider two employees at a California business. One is a Christian who says their church teaches marriage is between a man and a woman. The other is Muslim and expresses the same religious conviction.

Republican Ohio Rep. Mike Turner said on Sunday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s explanation for Ukraine’s Starlink slowdown is not good enough.

When CBS News host Margaret Brennan asked on “Face the Nation” whether “it sort of happened” was a sufficient explanation, Turner, who sits on the House Armed Services Committee, said, “Absolutely not,” and called for a congressional investigation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday that Ukraine’s use of the SpaceX satellite network remains partially restricted, Axios reported.

“Secretary Rubio said no one at the White House ordered it to be slowed down this week so that drones couldn’t use it. But effectively, that was the outcome,” Brennan said before playing Rubio’s remarks.

Rubio said “nobody ordered that Starlink speed to be slowed down. It sort of happened. But my understanding is it’s been restored.” He made the remarks Saturday evening before leaving on a trip to India, according to Axios.

“Absolutely not. I mean, this is something where there needs to be an investigation. There needs to be a congressional investigation,” Turner said.

“It’s unconscionable that this administration is capitulating to a Russian dictator who illegally invaded Ukraine and butchers innocent civilians every single day,” he added.

Trump signed an executive order Friday that pauses the package. He told Congress the move was in the national interest, the Associated Press reported. The White House didn’t immediately say how, and the order came before the sanctions took effect, according to CNBC.

The law is named for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a longtime Russia hawk who died in July. It targets Russian officials, banks and the “shadow fleet” of tankers that carries Russian energy. It also tells the president to put tariffs of up to 100% on the biggest buyers of Russian oil and gas.
