Gov. JB Pritzker announced the state filed a lawsuit Monday seeking a temporary restraining order to block President Donald Trump from using Illinois and Texas National Guard troops to manage crime in Chicago.

“Illinois is going to use every lever at our disposal to resist this power grab and get (DHS Sec. Kristi) Noem’s thugs hell out of Chicago,” Pritzker said in a Monday afternoon press conference. He also said several times that Texas troops should, “stay the hell out of Illinois.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security identified the official being targeted as Commander at Large of the U.S. Border Patrol, Chief Gregory Bovino.

U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros called the alleged plot “an attack on the rule of law.”

According to an indictment unsealed on Monday, Martinez is one of the highest sergeants in the Latin Kings, a nationwide gang that’s been linked to bloody murders of police officers, extortion, and human and drug trafficking. DHS said Martinez is from Mexico and entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown date.

The US Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Trump to end the Biden-era protections for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans.

The decision was 6-3. All three liberal justices dissented.

Liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson fumed in her dissent. “I cannot abide our repeated, gratuitous, and harmful interference with cases pending in the lower courts while lives hang in the balance, I dissent,” Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote. “We once again use our equitable power (but not our opinion-writing capacity) to allow this Administration to disrupt as many lives as possible, as quickly as possible,” Jackson added.

The Supreme Court on Friday paved the way for the Trump administration to revoke temporary legal status for up to 600,000 Venezuelan immigrants, meaning some could ultimately be deported.

The court granted an emergency request filed by the Trump administration seeking to block a judge’s ruling that said Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem failed to follow the correct process in revoking Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans.

The Supreme Court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority, in May granted an earlier emergency request filed by the Trump administration in the same case.

The latest filing came after California-based U.S. District Judge Edward Chen on Sept. 5 again ruled against the administration, this time in the form of a final decision rather than a preliminary one.

The U.S. military carried out another strike targeting a purported Venezuelan drug smuggling boat on Friday morning off the country’s coast, killing four people, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said.

“Four male narco-terrorists aboard the vessel were killed in the strike, and no U.S. forces were harmed in the operation,” he said. “The strike was conducted in international waters just off the coast of Venezuela while the vessel was transporting substantial amounts of narcotics 00 headed to America to poison our people.”
