None of those communities requested this massive influx. Most were ill-prepared for the sudden population increase. The strain on many communities’ services and infrastructure was severe; in many cases, they broke under the strain.
The illegals were from 150 countries, according to the AP report, and “Venezuelans and Cubans accounted for the largest numbers of migrants in the data, with roughly 773,000 and 539,000 arrivals, respectively.”

In his veto message, the Democrat governor expressed concerns that the legislation would violate federal law and land the state in trouble with the Trump administration, the Daily Bruin, UCLA’s student newspaper, reports.
“California remains committed to economic opportunity and tuition affordability for all students, including leading efforts to support undocumented students,” Newsom stated.
“But given the gravity of this bill’s consequences – including potential criminal and civil liability for state employees – the federal courts must resolve the legality of the novel legal theory behind this legislation before we proceed,” he stated.
The legislation prohibits public colleges and universities in California from “disqualifying a student from being hired for an employment position due to the student’s failure to provide proof of federal work authorization,” according to the bill summary.
Additionally, it would require institutions to “treat a specified prohibition in federal law on hiring undocumented noncitizens as inapplicable because that provision does not apply to any branch of state government.”

Lincoln-Goldfinch said Sunday night that Garces Perez had been released from Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas “into what we believe is ICE custody.” She said Garces Perez had been initially held for approximately six hours, during which time officers declined to provide his wife with meaningful information about his status or circumstances.
“We are deeply concerned that his wife and family have not been permitted to see him and have not received a meaningful update regarding his current condition or whereabouts,” she said.
She told CBS News that when they rushed to the hospital, law enforcement “ran us off the property and told us we can’t even stand on the driveway.”

“The government’s contention that the rule is necessary to safeguard national security borders on the absurd,” U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor wrote.
“It is based almost entirely on a small handful of anecdotes, each of which involved incidents that the new rule would do nothing to prevent or even mitigate,” he wrote.
DHS forged ahead with the rule despite receiving roughly 22,000 public comments pointing out flaws and offering alternative paths.
The judge ruled that in doing so, the department violated the Administrative Procedure Act, which requires government agencies to act reasonably, respond to public comments logically, and back their decisions with actual data.
The administration argued the rule was vital for national security and fraud prevention, but the court ruled that these rationales failed to withstand meaningful review.

These records were obtained by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) as part of his ongoing probe into the Butler debacle. The documents include an FBI interview with Matthew Crooks, Thomas Crooks’ father, only two days after young Crooks’ attempted murder of Trump.
According to the New York Post’s review of the records, Thomas Crooks used the name “Bob Dole” to obtain his stocks of ammunition and gun parts from Amazon and other online retailers, and had these parcels delivered to his parents’ home. The additional gun parts included “‘tools and items to increase the capacity of his rifle,’ the same weapon that his father would give to him on the morning of the rally at the Butler Farm Show Grounds in Pennsylvania.”

New York City’s socialist-in-chief, Zohran Mamdani, announced Monday that the Big Apple will lead a new lawsuit against the Trump administration challenging a rule that would expand the list of public benefits under which immigration officials can deny green cards to immigrants who are “likely at any time to become a public charge,” that is, to take advantage of welfare benefits. The programs that would be included in the new rule include SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).
During his speech announcing the lawsuit, Mamdani employed the left’s usual scare tactics in an attempt to guilt the administration into doing what he wants. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: “People could die” if the government doesn’t give out these handouts.
“The federal government finalized a set of drastic and unlawful changes to our country’s public charge rule, a rule that makes it possible for someone to be denied immigration status based on the likelihood of their need for public benefits,” he said. “It is intentionally vague as a means of creating uncertainty and fear, to isolate immigrant New Yorkers.”
