Texas Senate Runoff Heats Up as Trump Withholds Endorsement National Today

A new poll from Quantus Insights — one of the most accurate pollsters of the 2024 presidential election — found Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton leading longtime Senator John Cornyn in the runoff election for the state’s Republican U.S. Senate primary.
The poll, which surveyed 1,217 likely voters between March 22-23, found Paxton leading with 48.8 percent of the vote to Cornyn’s 41.3 percent. An additional 9.9 percent of respondents indicated that they remain undecided.
When asked about their likelihood of voting in the runoff, 89 percent said they were certain to vote, 8.9 percent said they probably would vote, and 2.1 percent said it was 50-50. When asked to recall their vote in the initial March 3 primary, 40 percent of respondents said they voted for Cornyn, 38.6 percent for Paxton and 10.6 percent for U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt.
James Talarico may have won the Democratic primary for Senate in Texas based on electability, but that’s only relative to his competition, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
In the past few weeks, Talarico — a state representative, former teacher, and Presbyterian seminarian — has had his past statements prove just how marginal the relative electability advantage really was.
In the latest of a trove of opposition research that’s gone over well with the left but will get played from now until Election Day for normal Texans, Talarico said that not only did he think positively of the illegal immigrant students he taught, but they were actually more American than Americans.
“Before I was a politician, I was a public school teacher in San Antonio, Texas, on the west side of the city, and I taught a lot of undocumented students, and those students tended to be my most patriotic students,” Talarico said in an interview last week.
“They understood something about this country that a lot of us who are native-born forget: that this is supposed to be the land of opportunity,” he continued.

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), battling a runoff challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R), is touting support for his Senate campaign from pastors who are signatories of the Evangelical Immigration Table, a group linked to George and Alex Soros’s Open Society Foundations, and which has a record of backing amnesty for illegal aliens living in the United States.
This week, Cornyn rolled out his campaign’s Faith Advisory Council, which comprises five pastors across Texas. Among those pastors are Max Lucado of Oak Hills Church in San Antonio, Dr. Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, and Dr. Gus Reyes of Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission in Dallas.

Hours after an Oliver Darcy underling screeched Sunday about CBS News’s social media platforms as having gone full MAGA for covering unsavory stories such as a Jewish Insider investigation into the radical social media history of New York City’s first lady, Monday’s CBS Mornings showed the liberal media are unsurprisingly not living in reality as the newscast welcomed far-left Texas senatorial candidate James Talarico (D) for an embarrassingly soft interview.
In just over six minutes, the co-hosts never offered an adversarial question to Talarico and strayed from the network’s own role in arguably endorsing Talarico’s primary campaign or any mention of the litany of radical statements over the course of his young life, such as these compiled in one convenient mash-up by our friends at Conservative War Machine:

If President Donald Trump is looking for a senator who embodies the spirit and action of “Republican in Name Only,” he couldn’t find no better man than milquetoast Texas Sen. John Cornyn.
The four-term RINO locked in a contentious GOP primary run-off battle against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton boasts a storied Senate career of genuflecting at the altar of the Swamp. Cornyn has been begging for Trump’s platinum endorsement more shamelessly than he’s prostituted himself for establishment cash.
And it’s looking like he might get the president’s seal of approval, if you can believe the Trump-hating Atlantic and other Pravda Press publications.
“President Trump’s political advisers expect him to endorse Senator John Cornyn in Texas’s May 26 Republican-primary runoff election following the incumbent’s better-than-expected finish against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the first round of voting [Tuesday] three people briefed on the deliberations told us,” The Atlantic’s Michael Scherer and Ashley Parker write.
On Wednesday, ABC and CBS were nauseatingly in awe on their flagship newscasts of far-left Texas State Representative James Talarico — who believes, among other things, God was non-binary and that Mary would support abortion — as possessing “cross-partisan appeal” in a campaign “emphasizing unity” to pull in “moderates” to deliver Texas the first statewide Democrat win since 1994.
CBS sent senior White House and campaign correspondent Ed O’Keefe to Austin, Texas, who reported back on CBS Mornings that Talarico had “put off his seminary studies in order to launch this campaign, believing he can combine support from Democrats, independents in this state and Republicans upset with the President.”
In a second live-shot that aired in some time zones (due to a CBS News Special Report on a Pentagon briefing), O’Keefe boasted of Talarico’s “cross-partisan appeal” with a “Christian progressive approach, that you can be rooted in your faith” and “make a faith-based argument as to why the country needs to change.”

SAN ANTONIO — Texas state Rep. James Talarico‘s Senate bid is offering a vision of Christianity that fits comfortably within the Left — and giving Democrats uneasy with religion permission to engage with it on their own terms.
Talarico’s campaign blended prayer, pop music, and progressive politics at a rally in San Antonio on Sunday. A maxed capacity crowd turned out to Stable Hall, a San Antonio music venue, for the event which began with 10 minutes of “community building” — where attendees were encouraged to get to know those standing to their left and right.
The socializing was followed by a pastor taking the stage to warm up the crowd.
The latest polling from the Texas U.S. Senate race for the Democrat nomination shows Rep. Jasmine Crockett (Dallas) stomping all over Rep. James Talarico (Austin).
Better still, this is shaping up to be a Barry Obama v. Kamala Harris race, as well.
The primary election is just days away, this coming Tuesday, March 3.
A University of Texas at Tyler poll taken between February 13-22 of 1,117 registered voters and 959 likely voters shows Crockett with 55 percent support to Talarico’s 37 percent. That is way outside the poll’s 3.2 point margin of error.
Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) is leading the tightly contested Texas Democratic Party Senate primary by 12 points, according to a new poll.
The shock lead was revealed in a survey from the University of Texas/Texas Politics.
The survey of likely Democrat primary voters shows Crockett with 56 percent support.
Meanwhile, state Rep. James Talarico trails at 44 percent.
The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 5.1 percentage points for the Democrat subset.

CBS News refused to air late night host Stephen Colbert’s interview with Democratic Texas state Rep. James Talarico, who is currently locked in a competitive Senate primary with Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said he was surprised by Republican Texas Rep. Wesley Hunt’s decision to miss a critical vote Thursday while Republicans work to pass their agenda with a razor-thin majority.
Hunt, who is vying in a brutal three-way Texas Senate primary, was absent while House Republicans advanced a rule teeing up votes on four appropriations bills, including a measure funding the Department of Homeland Security. Though House Republicans did not end up needing Hunt’s vote to advance the funding bills, Republican leadership has voiced irritation about the Senate hopeful’s frequent absences while he campaigns ahead of the March 3 primary.
