With the rise of Islamist Progressive candidates and elected officials nationwide, President Trump has declared that, if needed, he will issue an executive order to prevent Sharia from being the Rule of Law in any American-ruled jurisdiction.

He declared in an interview, “Number one, on Sharia law, I would absolutely say that’s not this country. There’s no Sharia law. And you do have pockets of it, as you know… I would absolutely prohibit the Sharia Law thing. It is happening in this country a little bit, and where we see it, we take it out… We have one system.”

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he was “deeply saddened” by the death of a Rikers Island inmate charged with murdering a shop owner with a meat cleaver in an unprovoked attack.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of a New Yorker in City custody at a jail on Rikers Island early this morning,” Mamdani said. “My thoughts are with his family and loved ones as they grieve this loss.”

Mamdani said officials have not yet determined what caused the inmate’s death.

“We do not yet know the cause of death, but we do know that too many New Yorkers have died on Rikers Island,” he said.

The Department of Correction and its oversight partners will investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, according to Mamdani. The mayor also renewed his administration’s commitment to improving conditions in the city’s jail system and closing Rikers Island “as quickly as possible.”

The inmate had been charged with killing a shop owner in an unprovoked meat-cleaver attack. Clarence Woodward, a 39-year-old homeless parolee, was arrested following the August 8, 2024, attack at the 303 Laundromat in the Bronx. He was charged with murder, manslaughter, and assault.

The average asking rent for an available Manhattan apartment has climbed to a staggering $6,655 a month, according to industry experts. That’s a 10% spike from a year ago.

Studios now average more than $4,000 a month, while families searching for three bedrooms can expect to shell out upward of $12,000 every month.

Zohran Mamdani’s “rent freeze” won’t fix the forces driving up those prices, and, according to a new analysis by the New York Post, the policy could make the housing crunch even worse.

Roughly 1 million apartments, accounting for more than a quarter of the city’s housing supply, are protected from market pricing by rent regulation. Tenants in those units have little incentive to move, leaving fewer apartments available and pushing up the cost of the city’s roughly 1 million market-rate units.

The freeze also disproportionately helps higher-income tenants rather than the lower-income New Yorkers progressives claim to champion.

New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani is facing widespread criticism after his administration on Monday published a searchable database identifying wealthy property owners who may be subject to the city’s pied-à-terre tax. The administration says the database is intended to promote transparency. Critics, however, argue it effectively “doxxes” property owners by making them easier to identify and locate, unnecessarily exposing them to harassment, vandalism, and even potential acts of violence.

Mamdani is also drawing criticism for including properties valued between $1 million and $5 million in the database, despite repeatedly promoting the pied-à-terre tax as applying only to properties worth $5 million or more. As it turns out, that was part of the plan — which I’ll return to shortly.

The Department of Finance’s online database allows anyone to search properties and access the names and addresses of owners whose non-primary residences could be affected by the proposed tax.

A Department of Finance spokesperson told Fox News that state law required the publication of the property assessment roll: “As per State law, a property roll was released for public inspection. From this list, DOF will identify properties that may be subject to the new non-primary residence property surcharge.”

It’s true that property records have long been public. Even so, aggregating the city’s most expensive properties into a single, searchable database that anyone can access strikes me as dangerous. There’s no shortage of bad actors who could exploit such a list for nefarious purposes, from political targeting to criminal activity.

The New York Post editorial board called the database Mamdani’s “enemies of the people” list and asked why no one at City Hall stopped this “amateur-hour idiocy?”

Because the Democratic Socialist crew is obsessed with naming and shaming their “class enemies”: As national DSA co-chair Megan Romer explained on Fox News Sunday, “We will win by making conditions so intolerable to the ruling class that they would rather give in to our demands than live with the disturbance we cause.”

As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, a day that will live in infamy of some people doing something, New York families are demanding that the mayor of New York City not show up at the memorial. A New York state lawmaker is calling on the Department of Justice to open a civil rights investigation into New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani following two Manhattan stabbings being investigated as possible hate crimes.

New York State Assemblyman Michael Novakhov, who represents Brooklyn’s District 45, announced the request Sunday during an End Jew Hatred rally in New York City.

According to a Pew survey, 44% of American Muslims recently surveyed expressed a favorable opinion of Hamas.

The United States designated Hamas a foreign terrorist organization long before it killed 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023, raped women, burned families alive, tortured civilians, and kidnapped children and elderly grandparents. Its leaders have repeatedly declared that Israel should cease to exist.

Yet nearly half of Muslim Americans surveyed said they view the group favorably.

Many Muslim Americans have publicly condemned terrorism while backing the rights of Palestinians. But 44% support is significant.

Imagine if a comparable percentage of any other religious or ethnic group expressed favorable views toward a different U.S.-designated terrorist organization, such as ISIS.

Discussion of Hamas is softened by the political context. Excuses include “occupation,” historical disputes, or resentment over the war in Gaza. Those issues may help explain why some people sympathize with Palestinians, but they do not transform Hamas into something other than what it is: a terrorist organization whose charter, actions, and rhetoric have centered on violence and the destruction of Israel.

There is an important distinction between supporting the Palestinian people and viewing Hamas favorably. Millions of Palestinians themselves have suffered under Hamas’ brutal rule. The organization has redirected resources from civilians to military infrastructure, suppressed dissent, and embedded fighters and weapons among civilian populations, increasing the suffering of the very people it claims to defend.

This goes past a poll. When a terrorist organization is viewed through a political lens rather than a moral one, terrorism itself risks becoming normalized. Instead of asking whether deliberately targeting civilians is evil, people begin asking whether the perpetrators were sufficiently aggrieved.

No political grievance justifies the massacre of concertgoers, the murder of children, the rape of women, or the kidnapping of civilians. Those acts should be condemned regardless of who commits them or what cause they claim to represent.

Pew’s survey doesn’t tell us why respondents answered as they did. Some may have interpreted “favorable” differently from others. Some may see Hamas primarily as a resistance movement despite rejecting its methods. Public opinion surveys have limits, but the results cannot simply be dismissed because they are uncomfortable.

I will say, as a former Republican, now an independent, who is for pro-democracy forces, my attitude has always been, we’re Baptists. We will play 16 hymns of ‘Just as I Am’, if that’s what it takes to bring new converts down. We will wait. And when those new converts come in, we hug them.

President Donald Trump said Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “will not be arrested” when he visits New York in September, pushing back on a suggestion by Mayor Zohran Mamdani that such an arrest could happen.

Mamdani has said New York City’s legal department is discussing the possibility of arresting Netanyahu when the prime minister is in the city to attend the United Nations General Assembly.

“I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague,” Mamdani told The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast that published Saturday.

“He’s a war criminal who has been charged by the International Criminal Court. And what you will find is that is an opinion that is held by many purely because of what his actions have wrought over these last many years,” the mayor said.

The active compromise that has held the American far left together over these past few years is quite simple: No matter how contradictory the identities of the most ardent proponents may be, as long as your animating motive is undermining America and its history, you’re in.

Chaudhry is attempting to unseat Rep. Adam Smith in the Democratic primary for Washington’s 9th Congressional District, based in and around Seattle. While Smith is a reliably liberal vote and has been since he entered Congress in 1997, he’s not really a leftist, per se, which makes him fair game in the 2026 cycle.
