An activist group out of Missouri is using the state’s recently passed unlimited abortion constitutional amendment to go after the last remaining safeguards for women, girls, and babies on the books, including a law mandating parental notification and consent for a minor seeking an abortion.
Right By You, an organization that prides itself on instructing underage girls in Missouri on how to get birth control and abortions, filed a lawsuit on April 30 alleging that laws requiring a minor to secure a parent’s permission, or endure a “potentially traumatic judicial bypass process,” to end a pregnancy “flagrantly violate” the new amendment to the state constitution.
“The laws bully pregnant young people without parental support into giving birth and threaten legal action against and undermine the core activities of Good Samaritans who seek to help young people effectuate their own decisions about their pregnancies with dignity,” the lawsuit claims.

Israel approved plans on Monday to capture the entire Gaza Strip and remain in the territory for an unspecified amount of time, two Israeli officials said, in a move that if implemented would vastly expand Israel’s operations in the Palestinian territory and likely bring fierce international opposition.
Israel’s cabinet ministers approved the plan in an early morning vote, hours after the Israeli military chief said the army was calling up tens of thousands of reserve soldiers. The new plan, which the officials said was meant to help Israel achieve its war aims of defeating Hamas and freeing hostages held in Gaza, also would push hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to southern Gaza, likely exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.
Since a ceasefire between Israel and the militant group Hamas collapsed in mid-March, Israel has unleashed fierce strikes on the territory that have killed hundreds. It has captured swathes of territory and now controls roughly 50 per cent of Gaza.

Conservative MP Damien Kurek indicated on Friday that he would only be “temporarily” abandoning the seat of Battle River-Crowfoot in Alberta, which he handily secured reelection to on Monday with 82% of the vote.
“Although it will be hard to temporarily step away from this role, in this region I love and have always called home, the mandate given to me is one that clearly states that change is needed,” Kurek said.
“Offering this seat to our party leader is an important step in that process,” he added.
Poilievre praised Kurek for the “selfless” move and vowed to “earn the trust of the good people of Battle River-Crowfoot.”

But most mineral deposits in Ukraine have scant data to confirm they are economically viable. The Liberals have proven themselves to be the most politically successful left-leaning party in the Western world over the past decade. In an age of populist conservative nationalism, they defy all odds. How do they keep doing it?
Let’s begin with a look at the past few months in Canadian politics, illustrated by three useful images.
Late last year, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s approval ratings dropped to around 20 percent. The Conservative Party opposition, led by Pierre Poilievre, made withering attacks on Trudeau’s Liberal government as incompetent, too far left, and out of touch. Canadian voters across the political spectrum viewed Trudeau as having badly mismanaged the economy. Polls predicted a 2025 Conservative Party landslide. The long-term trend appeared inexorable; the Liberals were doomed.
Prominent Liberal figures then did what ruthlessly effective political parties in the parliamentary tradition have always done—they stabbed their faltering leader in the back. On December 16th, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned from the government, denouncing Trudeau as incompetent on fiscal matters. Since Freeland was the heir apparent to the Liberal Party leadership, jokingly referred to as “Minister of Everything,” this sent shock waves through the party like nothing else. But as so often happens in the Westminster system, the hand that wields the knife sometimes fails to pick up the crown.
