President Donald Trump wants to give back $9.4 billion in federal spending to Congress that it has already approved. But it’s proving to be an uphill battle with Senate Republicans.

Some GOP senators don’t want to claw back funds for certain programs, including $1.1 billion to public broadcasting and $900 million in foreign aid for global health, despite a party-wide search for cost-cutting measures across the federal government.

The DOGE-inspired $9.4 billion rescissions legislation that House Republicans passed last week accounts for but a sliver of Trump’s $4 trillion “big, beautiful” tax and spending proposal to advance his domestic agenda. But the desire for Congress to sign off on budget cuts that he’s made by executive orders is compounding what are already fraught policy negotiations among both GOP-led chambers and the White House.

“We’ll all make up our own minds,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) said recently, reflecting on those urging the Senate to rubberstamp the House. “There’s a reason why these things are in the law in the first place. It’s because we believe that a lot of this stuff is good and it’s good public policy, so it’s OK for them to suggest that they have a different point of view.”

Thune has been scheduling interviews on a near-daily basis as the Senate prepares to vote on Trump’s “big, beautiful bill.” He started the week with an appearance on Shannon Bream’s Fox News Sunday, followed by three other TV and radio hits.

The media circuit is familiar to Thune — since he became majority leader in January, he’s gone on national TV 29 times. His appearances on radio and podcasts have now reached double digits.

But the messaging has taken on new consequence as Thune faces the biggest test of his early tenure. With just days to meet his self-imposed July 4 deadline to pass the tax cut-and-border bill, Thune is corralling votes under an onslaught of criticism, including loud complaints from his right flank.

On Wednesday, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), one of the Senate’s GOP holdouts, released a report directly challenging Thune’s insistence that the bill, which includes more than $1 trillion in budget offsets, won’t add to the deficit.

Democrats, meanwhile, have framed the legislation as a welfare-slashing healthcare bill that is skewed toward the rich.

Despite facing a proverbial “perfect storm” with recession fears, stock market volatility, and talk of tariffs — all multiplied by constant media attacks — recent polling data shows that more Americans view the Republican Party as being better equipped to handle the economy compared to the Democratic Party.

The public as a whole sees the GOP as relatively effective.

It’s true that for decades, Democrats were widely seen as the party of the middle class. In 1989, they held a significant 23-point advantage on the question of which party best represented middle-class interests. But that has all changed.

A May 2025 CNN/SSRS poll shows Republicans with a 7-point lead when people are asked which party is closer to their economic views. In a different poll, conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, asking which party has the better economic plan, the GOP lead grew from +9 in May 2024 to +12 in May 2025, signaling increased confidence in Trump’s economic leadership during his second term.

Unless you’re still at home hiding from COVID under a blanket and isolated from the real world, this shouldn’t be a surprise. And yet, CNN hosts were completely baffled when reporting on the issue — another sign that today’s Democratic Party is completely disconnected from the average American.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been a political fixture in the Golden State since the late 1990s, first serving on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1997 to 2004 before serving as mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. After that, he was elected as California’s Lieutenant Governor, a position he held for eight years until he was sworn in as the state’s Governor in January 2019.

He’s term-limited out now, with the next gubernatorial election to be held in 2026. Though there are murmurings about whether former Vice President Kamala Harris will jump into the growing field of contenders, Newsom’s focus is not on speculation about the candidates nor endorsements. Instead, he is rumored to have his eye on the ultimate prize for an entrenched, ambitious politico: the presidency of the United States.

“This was not really a speech about California, which, based on his record, he seems to care little about—this was his first real salvo in the ’28 presidential elections,” my colleague Bob Hoge wrote in response to the disastrous, lie-filled speech Newsom gave amid the LA riots. “He knows he’s watching his chances go up in smoke like an electric vehicle in downtown Los Angeles, and this was his desperate attempt to right the ship.”

A multi-agency task force assisted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents with the arrest of a Guatemalan criminal alien during a targeted enforcement operation in Los Angeles. The criminal alien was deported from the United States after being sentenced to 36 months in prison for sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, officials stated.

U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks announced the arrest in Los Angeles of Guatemalan national Roberto Mateo. The Guatemalan man is illegally present in the United States after being deported from the U.S. in 2017. It is not clear when or where he reentered the U.S. but the federal task force located him in the sanctuary city of Los Angeles.

In a social media post, Chief Banks wrote, “He returned and thought he could hide in a ‘sanctuary city.’ We are here to send a clear message to criminals: We don’t care where you hide- We will locate, arrest, and remove you.”

Records indicate Mateo was found guilty in the United States in 2014 of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 14, Banks reported. The court sentenced him to 36 months in prison. An immigration judge ordered his removal and ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers deported him upon the completion of his sentence in 2017.

Despite the actions of anti-ICE protesters in Los Angeles, ERO officers also arrested Mab Khleb, a Cambodian national with a criminal history of lewd acts with a child, battery, and multiple drug offenses, ERO officials reported.

Leading oncology scientists in Brazil have just announced a major breakthrough in the fight against cancer.

A team of scientists at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) has discovered that ivermectin nanoparticles destroy cancer cells, massively reducing tumors.

In a groundbreaking preclinical study, researchers led by Drs. Maiara Callegaro Velho and Ruy Carlos Ruver Beck showed that a nano-encapsulated form of ivermectin, when delivered intranasally, reduced glioma tumor volume in rats by over 70%.

The discovery is being hailed as a major development in the fight against glioblastoma, one of the deadliest forms of brain cancer.

The results of the study were published in ACS Biomaterials Science & Engineering.

This is the first study to investigate “nose-to-brain IVM delivery using nanotechnology,” the authors noted.

The team tested two ivermectin nanoformulations:

• IVM-NC: Ivermectin encapsulated in poly(ε-caprolactone) nano capsules

• IVM-MCM: Ivermectin within mesoporous silica particles

LGBTQ advocates have long allied themselves with diversity, equity and inclusion groups. Yet DEI’s legal troubles are causing some corporate sponsors to end their support for Pride activities.

Soon, Pride advocates may have legal problems of their own. That’s bad for Pride organizers, but it’s good for parents because rulings could spell out protections for parents and children from explicit sexual material in schools.

An April survey of corporate executives found that 39% of respondents “plan to reduce Pride-related engagement in 2025,” with 61% of these business leaders citing “pressure” from the White House as the primary reason for dropping support.

Some Pride organizations are reeling: Businesses such as Mastercard, Pepsi, Comcast and more did not contribute to Pride events—in fact, San Francisco’s Pride organizations saw fundraising fall by $200,000. New York City’s Pride fundraising dropped by 20%, while Salt Lake City’s Pride fundraising is down by nearly half a million dollars.

Companies were more interested in supporting Pride events and their DEI partners when federal officials allowed DEI offices in corporations and on university campuses to skirt civil rights laws.

According to Forbes, corporate fundraising for DEI “peaked” between 2016 and 2022, which happened to cover much of President Joe Biden’s administration. That administration did not call companies, universities and other organizations to account for DEI activities that may have violated the Civil Rights Act, such as racial favoritism in hiring.

According to the data, nearly one million illegals have self-deported and gone back to their home countries where they belong since Donald Trump was elected to the White House for Trump 2.0.

You might remember way back in the neolithic age of 2012 that Mitt Romney was destroyed for saying that if the federal government tightened up immigration policies, many illegals would leave the U.S. voluntarily… i.e., would “self-deport.” Liberals blasted him for this claim.

Now that Donald Trump has finally been able put the idea into action, we find that Mitt– who was rarely right — actually hit that one on the head. So far, about a million illegals have gone home.

Per the New York Post:

One way to track the program is by checking employment numbers. One financial wiz cited by the Wall Street Journal calculated a decline in the immigrant population of 773,000 in the first four months of Trump II.

The Washington Post claims “a million foreign-born workers have exited the workforce since March.” The Post frames this as “a sign of the weakening labor supply.” Yet the paper also notes, “Average hourly wages accelerated, rising by 0.4 percent over the month, to $36.24 in May, as earnings continue to beat inflation in a boost to workers’ spending power.”

In other words, with fewer illegal immigrants, businesses had to raise wages to attract workers.

Leftists were evidently unable to persuade President Donald Trump to reverse course on deporting illegal aliens with their recent rioting, demonstrations, and attacks on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The president announced Sunday evening in a post on Truth Social that he was ordering ICE officers to lean into their mass deportation campaign.

“Every day, the Brave Men and Women of ICE are subjected to violence, harassment, and even threats from Radical Democrat Politicians, but nothing will stop us from executing our mission, and fulfilling our Mandate to the American People,” wrote Trump. “ICE Officers are herewith ordered, by notice of this TRUTH, to do all in their power to achieve the very important goal of delivering the single largest Mass Deportation Program in History.”

‘Large employers are more concerned than their counterparts about ICE/DHS enforcement.’

Trump indicated that success will depend upon an expansion of detention and deportation efforts in America’s largest cities, including Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York, which he noted were not only temporarily home to millions of illegal aliens but “the core of the Democrat Power Center, where they use Illegal Aliens to expand their Voter Base, cheat in Elections, and grow the Welfare State, robbing good paying Jobs and Benefits from Hardworking American Citizens.”

“The American People want our Cities, Schools, and Communities to be SAFE and FREE from Illegal Alien Crime, Conflict, and Chaos,” continued Trump. “That’s why I have directed my entire Administration to put every resource possible behind this effort, and reverse the tide of Mass Destruction Migration that has turned once Idyllic Towns into scenes of Third World Dystopia. Our Federal Government will continue to be focused on the REMIGRATION of Aliens to the places from where they came, and preventing the admission of ANYONE who undermines the domestic tranquility of the United States.”

A parents’ rights group is asking the Trump administration to investigate the YMCA for possible violations of federal law for allowing men who identify as women into women’s locker rooms and, in several instances, allowing them to expose their naked bodies to women and girls.

“I write to file a formal complaint against the YMCA of the USA (“YMCA”) for engaging in unlawful gender-based discrimination in its programs and policies,” Alleigh Marré, the executive director of the American Parents Coalition, wrote in a letter on June 10 to the secretaries of the departments of Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Education.

The letter follows news reports that indicated the national YMCA organization had issued guidance as far back as 2017 recommending that biologically male campers and staff be allowed to use the cabins and bathrooms “aligned with their gender identity” at YMCA camps.

The letter then goes on to outline how individual YMCAs had implemented those policies.

In April, a mother and her young daughter were exposed to a naked man in a women’s locker room at a local YMCA in Kansas City, Missouri. The individual in question reportedly said something along the lines of “Honey, I’m a woman,” when the girl’s mother inquired why he was in the locker room.

That YMCA told WDAF-TV in Kansas City that “individuals are allowed to use the locker room or restroom that they identify with,” but that “members are asked to wear a towel, wrap, or other clothes at all times.”

In a unanimous move, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday ordered New York’s highest court to reconsider its decision upholding a state mandate that forces religious employers to provide abortion coverage in their health insurance plans.

The Court’s unsigned order in Diocese of Albany v. Harris directs the New York Court of Appeals to reexamine the case in light of Catholic Charities Bureau v. Wisconsin, a recent ruling that reinforced constitutional protections for religious groups under the First Amendment’s Free Exercise Clause.

The ruling stems from a years-long legal battle involving a coalition of Catholic and Anglican nuns, dioceses, churches, and faith-based ministries. These organizations challenged New York’s 2017 abortion insurance mandate, arguing that it compelled them to violate their deeply held beliefs about the sanctity of life.

“When New York created this abortion mandate, it said it would protect religious groups,” said Lori Windham, a religious liberty attorney. “But religious ministries that serve all people, regardless of faith, were left out. Not even Jesus, Mother Teresa, or Mahatma Gandhi would qualify for New York’s stingy definition of religious freedom.”

The original New York law offered only a narrow exemption—limited to religious organizations that primarily employ and serve individuals of the same faith. That meant ministries that provide food, housing, and other essential services to the general public—including those of different faiths or none at all—were left with no protection.

On the heels of a Gallup survey noting that 54 percent of American men identify as pro-life (as opposed to 32 percent of women), a new Ipsos poll from the United Kingdom reveals a similar gender divide.

According to the new poll published on June 16, 71 percent of Britons believe that abortion should be legal “in most or all cases,” but between young men aged 16-34, this number plunges to 46 percent. The Ipsos survey was conducted between May 16 and 19 and surveyed 1,062 British people between ages 16 and 75.

According to Ipsos, 34 percent of Britons think that abortion should be legal in all cases, and 38 percent in most cases. Thirteen percent of Britons believe abortion should be illegal in most cases, and four percent believe it should be illegal in all cases. Ipsos noted that this “level of support has remained relatively consistent since 2022.”

Again, the surprise from the new Ipsos survey is the pro-life shift among young men. While 76 percent of men between the ages of 35 and 54 think abortion should be legal in most or all cases and 82 percent of men between the ages of 55 and 75, “less than half (46 percent) of men aged 16-34 believe that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.”

The Ipsos survey also revealed that there is no public push to change the law to decriminalize abortion up until birth, as MPs are likely to do this week. Forty-seven percent of Britons “believe the current 24-week time limit for most abortions in England and Wales is ‘about right,’ while almost a quarter—24 percent–think it is “too late.” Only four percent believe it is too early. Over half of those surveyed, 55 percent, think that the party who committed the abortion should receive a penalty.

“While the majority of Britons support legal abortion, with seven in ten in favour, our polling reveals a significant fault line: less than half of young men aged 16-34 agree,” noted Kate Duxbury of Ipsos. “This divergence, coupled with the fact that around half of Britons think the current 24-week limit is ‘about right’, highlights the complexities facing policymakers as they consider decriminalisation. It’s clear that public opinion is far from monolithic, demanding a nuanced approach to this sensitive issue.”

At least 28 powerful U.S. Air Force tankers—including KC-135R Stratotankers and KC-46 Pegasus jets—were seen crossing the Atlantic en masse Sunday night, according to Daily Mail citing open-source aircraft tracking platforms.

The fleet’s mysterious deployment comes as tensions between Israel and the terrorist regime in Iran spiral dangerously toward all-out war.

The massive airborne refueling convoy appears to have launched from multiple air bases across the continental United States, heading toward Europe.

According to military aviation outlet The War Zone (TWZ), this kind of large-scale tanker deployment is “very peculiar” and not tied to any routine exercises.

More from TWZ:

Open-source enthusiasts took to social media after all the tankers began popping up on flight tracking software.

At its peak, it appeared that at least 28 tankers were all heading east. While there is a multinational exercise in Norway that is about to kick off, that wouldn’t require anything like this level of relocation of refueling assets.

There is no other apparent exercise or commitment that would necessitate such an operation.

… Rally-goers were set to meet at the southwest corner of Scottsdale Road and Camelback Road, directly across the street from Scottsdale Fashion Square, a shopping center. In May 2020, this mall endured millions of dollars in damages during the Black Lives Matter riots, leading to dozens of arrests for looting and criminal damage. Those events left lingering fears among some locals that Saturday’s protest could spark similar destruction.

On Saturday morning, a few hundred protesters gathered in the area, spreading across all sides of the intersection and occasionally spilling into nearby blocks. Concrete barriers kept the crowd, which mostly included adults in their 50s and older, from blocking traffic.

A strong law enforcement presence monitored the area, with local police patrolling the perimeter and periodically moving through the crowd, maintaining order without incident.

Protesters attending the No Kings rallies, which were reportedly backed by 198 groups with $2.1 billion in annual revenue, were encouraged to show up at the events with American flags to “reclaim” national symbols.

In the both the 2016 and 2024 presidential elections, Donald Trump cynically but effectively adopted the mantle of the anti-war candidate, accusing his rivals of a dangerous commitment to a policy of regime-change wars that threatened to usher in a new era of wars—and perhaps World War III. In October 2024, he specifically rejected the idea of regime change in Iran, saying, “We can’t get totally involved in all that. We can’t run ourselves, let’s face it.” In his Inaugural address in January, Trump promised to be a “a peacemaker” who would “stop all wars and bring a new spirit of unity to a world that has been angry, violent, and totally unpredictable.” In a major foreign policy address in Saudi Arabia in May, Trump reiterated his oft-repeated critique of “Western interventionalists [sic]” and “neocons” who have tried to remake the Middle East in America’s image.

As I’ve repeatedly argued, while Trump’s words are a salutary rejection of the hubris of the bipartisan foreign policy elite, there’s little in Trump’s record to show that he knows how to redirect American foreign policy toward a more peaceful direction. Quite the reverse is true: Trump’s own limitations as a leader—his fickleness, lack of deep commitments, and desire to placate different factions in his political coalition—make him an easy prey to militarists who want to push for new conflicts. The current outbreak of hostilities against Iran initiated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a clear case in point.

Trump gave the green light to Israel’s attack on Iran, which started on Friday. These attacks have led to open salivation by Netanyahu and leading congressional Republicans such as Ted Cruz at the prospect of regime change in Iran. They have derailed, as they were intended to do, Trump’s ongoing push for a nuclear deal with Iran. They also threaten to drag the United States into an escalating Middle Eastern war—something Trump has repeatedly promised to avoid.

Pressure to regulate AI, fueled by apocalyptic prophecy and long-held animosity of tech giants like billionaire Elon Musk, is building within MAGA, and it might be enough to get something done in Congress.

AI-generated images, ranging from muscle-bound depictions of President Donald Trump to memes portraying the president’s opponents as communists, have become a hallmark of online conservatism over the past few years.

Percolating in the background, however, has been a resistance to AI technology, rooted in the conservative movement’s skepticism of Big Tech. Criticism of AI on the right ranges from relatively mundane concerns over AI’s potential ability to defame to warnings that AI has a role to play in the end times.

Central to the concern of right-wingers is the concept of the AI “singularity” — the name for the hypothetical point at which AI becomes able to improve itself, leading to an uncontrollable cascade of advancements in the technology — and Musk, who often features prominently in right-wing critiques of AI for his influence in the Trump administration, a 2014 interview where he predicted that “with artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon” and for his longtime social media profile, in which he sported armor bearing the Sigil of Baphomet.

“If you listen to the four horsemen of the apocalypse — Dario, Musk, Altman… they talk right now about the Big Bang, that this is the Big Bang time for artificial intelligence,” former Trump adviser Steve Bannon said on a recent episode of his podcast, “War Room.” “As sure as the turning of the Earth, this is going to be the most fundamental radical transformation in all human history, going back to the absolute beginning,” Bannon continued, “and what you have is the most irresponsible people doing it for: one, their own efforts for eternal life, because they do not believe in the underlying tenants of the Judeo-Christian West; and also money and power. It must be stopped.”

About 66 million years ago — perhaps on a downright unlucky day in May — an asteroid smashed into our planet.

The fallout was immediate and severe. Evidence shows that about 70% of species went extinct in a geological instant, and not just those famous dinosaurs that once stalked the land. Masters of the Mesozoic oceans were also wiped out, from mosasaurs — a group of aquatic reptiles topping the food chain — to exquisitely shelled squid relatives known as ammonites.

Even groups that weathered the catastrophe, such as mammals, fishes and flowering plants, suffered severe population declines and species loss. Invertebrate life in the oceans didn’t fare much better.

But bubbling away on the seafloor was a stolid group of animals that has left a fantastic fossil record and continues to thrive today: bivalves — clams, cockles, mussels, oysters and more.

What happened to these creatures during the extinction event and how they rebounded tells an important story, both about the past and the future of biodiversity.

When it comes to higher education and AI, this is going to be one of the biggest challenges of the future.

The Guardian reports:

Revealed: Thousands of UK university students caught cheating using AI

Thousands of university students in the UK have been caught misusing ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools in recent years, while traditional forms of plagiarism show a marked decline, a Guardian investigation can reveal.

A survey of academic integrity violations found almost 7,000 proven cases of cheating using AI tools in 2023-24, equivalent to 5.1 for every 1,000 students. That was up from 1.6 cases per 1,000 in 2022-23.

Figures up to May suggest that number will increase again this year to about 7.5 proven cases per 1,000 students – but recorded cases represent only the tip of the iceberg, according to experts.

The data highlights a rapidly evolving challenge for universities: trying to adapt assessment methods to the advent of technologies such as ChatGPT and other AI-powered writing tools.

In 2019-20, before the widespread availability of generative AI, plagiarism accounted for nearly two-thirds of all academic misconduct. During the pandemic, plagiarism intensified as many assessments moved online. But as AI tools have become more sophisticated and accessible, the nature of cheating has changed.

Cardinal Raymond Burke revealed that he has already spoken to Pope Leo XIV about the future of the traditional Mass, hoping that the Pope will follow the example of Benedict XVI.

Addressing participants of the Latin Mass Society’s 60th anniversary conference in London on Saturday, Burke spoke of his personal intervention to the new Pope regarding the future of the traditional Mass:

It is my hope that Leo XIV will put an end to the present persecution to the faithful in the Church who desire to worship God according to the more ancient usage of the Roman Rite, this persecution from within the Church.

I have already had occasion to express that to the Holy Father. It is my hope that he will – as soon as it is possible – take up the study of this question and try to restore the situation as it was after Summorum Pontificum and even to develop what Pope Benedict XVI had so wisely and lovingly legislated for the Church.

Burke, who spoke via a video-link to the conference, has been a leading proponent of the traditional liturgy for many years.

According to Robert Spencer, writing at Frontpage magazine, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) has opened a new theme park, “Heaven Time,” which is — bizarrely and ironically — designed to give visitors an up-close and personal experience of the torments of hell. They even have an exhibit of that name.

He writes that the oddly named Heaven Time theme park is located at the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps base in the northern Iranian city of Fouman.

Iran International, a Persian-language satellite television channel, recently reported that the exhibit is meant to “offer a visceral experience of the afterlife—particularly the torments of hell.”

Doesn’t that sound fun, kids?! I wonder how many rials it costs to get in?

Upon further reflection, the theme park seems redundant. I mean, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the IRGC have made certain Iranians are already living in hell. They don’t need to go to a theme park to see what it looks like.

Since just before Donald Trump won the 2024 election, colleges and universities began pulling back on their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs and claiming to be ending them. But now, we are learning that they were only playing to publicity and lied. Most of them didn’t end the DEI programs, they just renamed them.

According to aa report by The College Fix, 90 universities have made a big deal about ending their DEI programs, but all they really did was rename their DEI programs and just renamed them, otherwise leaving them the same as before.

Faced with pressure to eliminate their diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, colleges and universities across the nation opted to rebrand such efforts as opposed to eliminating them altogether, a College Fix survey found.

While many universities did close their DEI offices, a large chunk opted to rename or revamp them, but kept a lot of the same employees and goals. In some cases, there were some staff reassignments and other bureaucratic shuffling, such as integration into other departments.

The survey looked at news reports, press releases and institutional websites to determine that over the last two years, at least 87 schools effectively renamed their DEI offices.

BANFF, Canada — President Donald Trump opened the 2025 Group of Seven leaders’ summit by complaining it was a “mistake” for the multilateral organization to remove Russia from its ranks.

“The G7 used to be the G8. [Former President]Barack Obama and a person named [former Canadian Prime Minister Justin] Trudeau didn’t want to have Russia in, and I would say that was a mistake because I think you wouldn’t have a war right now if you had Russia in,” Trump told reporters on Monday.

Russia was removed from the G7 in 2014 in response to its annexation of Crimea.

“What’s that? Nine years ago, eight years ago, it switched over,” Trump said. “They threw Russia out, which I claimed was a very big mistake, even though I wasn’t in politics then, I was very loud about it. It was a mistake in that you spend so much time talking about Russia, but he’s no longer at the table, so it makes life more complicated.”

Trump made the remarks during his first appearance at this year’s G7 summit, which Canada hosted in Kananaskis. He was beside Trudeau’s successor, Mark Carney.

The last time I wrote about Greenland, the nation had elected independent-minded leaders to the top spots in its political system.

This was then followed by Vice President Vance’s trip with his wife to the Pituffik Space Base on the Arctic island to support the trips.

During an address during the visit, Vance unleashed some hard-hitting statements directed at our ally Denmark. Essentially, Vance took a diplomatic sledgehammer to Denmark’s treatment of Greenland, suggesting that Copenhagen has treated the island more like a neglected outpost than a strategic priority.

Vance did not sugar-coat his opinion of the obliviousness Denmark has had to the threats Russia and China pose in this region.

Given the recent spate of international conflicts (India vs Pakistan, Israel pummeling Iran), Greenland seems to have dropped out of the news. However, it has not been completely forgotten about by President Donald Trump.

The Trump administration is considering financing a $120 million rare earths mining project in the Arctic island nation through a loan from the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) to Critical Metals Corp, in what would be the administration’s first overseas investment in a mining venture. The project, known as the Tanbreez rare earths mine, is aimed at reducing U.S. reliance on China, which currently dominates the global rare earths market.

Critical Metals Corp (CRML.O) has received a letter of interest from the U.S. Export-Import Bank (EXIM) for a loan worth up to $120 million to fund the company’s Tanbreez rare earths mine in Greenland, in what would be the Trump administration’s first overseas investment in a mining project.

The loan, if approved, would boost U.S. access to minerals increasingly at the center of global economic trade and help offset the country’s reliance on market leader China….

…In a letter dated June 12 and reviewed by Reuters, New York-based Critical Metals has met initial requirements to apply for the $120 million EXIM loan and, if approved, would have a 15-year repayment term, longer than the company likely would have with private financing.
The project would have to be “well-capitalized with sufficient equity from strategic investors” to receive the loan, the letter said.
