The Chinese military is engaging in war games with its China-Russia axis ally Belarus along the Polish border. The operation has been deemed “Falcon Assault.” It is scheduled to conclude on July 19 of this year. The operation is taking place at a training ground just outside the city of Brest, which lies on the border of Poland.

Major General Vadim Denisenko, chief of Belarusian special operations command, said “Events taking place in the world are alarming, the situation is uneasy, therefore we are going to practice new forms and methods of performing tactical tasks.”

The operation is the first highly visible European-based military exercise involving Chinese troops, sending a signal abroad and at home that China’s military presence is expanding, her reach is getting deeper into the heartlands of the West.

At home, China is dealing with another round of military purges and corruption that cause some to doubt the sustainability of the Chinese military presence under actual fire. It is only a matter of time before China finds itself militarily challenged in one of its expanding colonizing outposts, outposts that now include Belarus.

China and Belarus started joint military exercises on Monday, the Belarusian and Chinese defence ministries said, holding the drills just few miles (km) from the border of NATO-member Poland and kicking them off on the eve of the alliance’s summit.

“Events taking place in the world are alarming, the situation is uneasy, therefore we are going to practice new forms and methods of performing tactical tasks,” Major General Vadim Denisenko, chief of Belarusian special operations command, was cited by the Belarusian defence ministry as saying in a post on the Telegram messaging app.

The manoeuvres, codenamed Falcon Assault, will go until July 19 and are taking place at a training ground near the city of Brest, the ministry said. Brest, in southwest Belarus, lies on the border with Poland.

Leaders of NATO’s 32 member countries meet on Tuesday in Washington for a summit where further military and financial support for Ukraine will be high on the agenda.

Belarus allowed Russia to use its territory as one of the launchpads for Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

As part of the “anti-terrorist exercises”, military personnel of both countries will work out issues of night landing, overcoming water barriers, and conducting operations in a populated area, the Belarusian defence ministry said in its statement.

The ministry also posted a series of photos on Telegram, showing over the weekend Chinese troops disembarking from a plane and offloading equipment. In Monday posts it showed the troops marching at a training ground. It was not clear how many troops were involved in the drills.

The Chinese defence ministry said in a statement on Monday that Belarus held a “a grand welcome ceremony” for the Chinese troops who arrived in Belarus on July 6, according to a statement published in English on the ministry’s website.

“The joint training aims to enhance the coordination capabilities of the participating troops, and deepen practical cooperation between the two armies,” the ministry said in the statement.

In an unrelated post on Telegram, the Belarusian defence ministry said on Monday that the size of NATO forces on the border with Belarus is rapidly growing, which leads to increased tension in the region.

“Our country is taking all possible measures to prevent escalation. However, if someone crosses our borders, the reaction will be harsh,” it said in the post.

Neutral Switzerland has applied to join the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI) air defence scheme at a time of heightened anxiety over security due to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The scheme, launched by Germany in 2022, has been mostly, but not exclusively, backed by NATO members.
Swiss national armaments chief Urs Loher signed a membership application on Monday, the Swiss government said on Tuesday.

The French Leftist Coalition is demanding the immediate right to form a government because it has the plurality of seats, but not the majority. Meanwhile, the party that won the plurality of votes, Marine Le Pen’s Nationalist Rally, is still looking to find a path to a majority coalition, but the task seems daunting.

PARIS (AP) — The leftist coalition that won the most seats in France’s National Assembly in surprise results demanded on Tuesday the immediate right to form a government, even though no grouping won a majority of seats.

It is unprecedented in France’s modern history to have a fractured parliament. Sunday’s vote raised the risk of paralysis for the European Union’s second-largest economy. The legislature is split between the New Popular Front leftist coalition, President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist allies and the far-right National Rally.

Macron on Monday asked his prime minister, Gabriel Attal, to continue handling day-to-day affairs, despite Attal’s offer of resignation, less than three weeks before the start of the Paris Olympics. Macron leaves Wednesday for a NATO summit in Washington.

A new study by the University of Berkeley is claiming tampons sold by many national brands could contain toxic levels of arsenic and lead in them. The lead author of the study, Jenni Shearston, said “We selected several different products and tested them for a panel of 16 different metals. And we found concentrations of every single one of the metals we tested. For some of the metals, like lead, which is toxic, we found a presence in every single one of the tampons we tested. So we found a lot of metals.”

Tampons sold under various popular brands may contain toxic metals such as arsenic and lead, according to a recent study out of the University of Berkeley in California.

The study, published in the latest volume of Environmental International, found that all 30 tampons tested from 14 brands — including organic tampons — contained lead, with some showing concerning levels of other toxic metals like arsenic.

The Washington Examiner’s Byron York argued that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is “worried” former President Donald Trump will return to power, referencing Trump’s plan for peace between Ukraine and Russia.

Zelensky spoke at the NATO summit in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, during which he made the case for the United States to not wait until November to provide aid to his country in its war against Russia. York, the chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner, explained that Zelensky’s plea not to wait until November stems from Trump’s plan to use aid as a negotiating tactic in creating peace between the warring nations.

The UN Peacekeeping mission, which had been put on a fast-track for withdrawal after President Felix Tshisekedi requested it back in September 2023, has announced a pause in the withdrawal plan with no future timeline announced. Rwanda’s alleged recent aggression near the Congo border was given as the reason for the pause.

The U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo will pause its withdrawal, with no timeline set for the next phase following the initial one in June, the government and mission said.
In September last year, President Felix Tshisekedi asked the mission to fast-track the withdrawal of peacekeepers who were deployed to the Central African country to quell insecurity caused by armed groups fighting over territory and resources.
The first phase of the withdrawal, in South Kivu province, was completed on June 25, Congo’s ambassador to the United Nations, Zenon Mukongo Ngay, said on Monday. It had been scheduled for completion by April.
Ngay indicated that conditions had not yet been met for the next phase, however, blaming neighbouring Rwanda for an escalation of clashes in the restive east of Congo.
“In view of Rwanda’s continued aggression in North Kivu, the next phase of withdrawal, phase 2, will be undertaken when conditions allow, following ongoing joint assessments,” he said in a speech at the U.N. Security Council.

With a WEF member at the helm in Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Poland appears poised to significantly increase its ties with embattled Ukraine, entering in to an agreement to develop joint air defenses, as well as integrating their arms industries. WARSAW, Poland — With the war in Ukraine expected to dominate the agenda of the NATO summit that begins in Washington today, the Kyiv government signed a security cooperation agreement with Poland, one of its staunchest allies.

The deal, signed in Warsaw on July 8 by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, foresees Polish support for integrating the Ukrainian defense industry with Western partners, and it calls for air-defense cooperation between the two nations in the event of an attack.

In a statement released by his office, Tusk said his country will push allies during the summit to accelerate the process of admitting Ukraine to NATO and make the alliance’s aid to Kyiv even more efficient.

“Also in Washington, Poland has been very active in promoting Ukraine’s accession to NATO,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference here following the ceremonial signing of the security pact.

The U.S. Supreme Court gave a boost on Friday to a Pennsylvania man who challenged an obstruction charge brought against him concerning the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

It’s a ruling that has potential implications for the federal criminal case against former U.S. president Donald Trump for trying to undo his 2020 election loss.

The justices ruled 6-3 to throw out a lower court’s decision that had allowed a charge against defendant Joseph Fischer of corruptly obstructing an official proceeding, that is, the congressional certification of President Joe Biden’s victory over Trump that the rioters sought to prevent. The justices directed the lower court to reconsider the matter.

Fischer, who was an officer with the North Cornwall township police in Pennsylvania at the time of the attack, was accused by prosecutors of charging at police guarding a Capitol entrance during the Jan. 6 riot. He had challenged the obstruction charge, which federal prosecutors brought against him and hundreds of others — including Trump — in Jan. 6-related cases.

Friday’s ruling was a setback for the U.S. Justice Department and Biden’s administration and a potential benefit for Trump.

Boeing and the Department of Justice have come to an agreement for a plea deal that will see the company pay a criminal fine of $243.6 million. The deal comes as a result of two fatal 737 Max planes that caused the deaths of 346 passengers and crew.

The deal has not been met with approval by the families of the victims, who were hoping for a criminal trial to bring the jet manufacturer to account. They called the deal a “sweetheart deal” that allows Boeing to essentially go virtually unscathed.

Boeing has agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud conspiracy charge after the US found the company violated a deal meant to reform it after two fatal crashes by its 737 Max planes that killed 346 passengers and crew.

The Department of Justice (DoJ) said the plane-maker had also agreed to pay a criminal fine of $243.6m (£190m).

However, the families of the people who died on the flights five years ago have criticised it as a “sweetheart deal” that would allow Boeing to avoid full responsibility for the deaths.

By pleading guilty, Boeing will avoid the spectacle of a criminal trial – something that victims’ families have been pressing for.

The company has been in crisis over its safety record since two near-identical crashes involving 737 Max aircraft in 2018 and 2019. It led to the global grounding of the plane for more than a year.

As expected, the far-left Labour Party of Britain won a super majority of parliament seats despite getting less than 40 percent of the vote. In France, the right was expected to triumph, but a deal with the far-far-left and the far-left gave the French an even more extreme leftist government than they had before. The party that won the most votes, Marine Le Pen’s National Party, only garnered enough parliament seats to rank third.

The French election results showed that the “alliance of dishonour” between President Emmanuel Macron and the far left effectively blocked the populist National Rally from gaining a majority despite the Le Pen party having won the most votes.

According to the French Interior Ministry, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) won the most votes of any party during Sunday’s second round of the snap legislative elections at over 8.7 million, good for 32.05 per cent of the vote.

When combined with their electoral alliance partners from disputed Les Républicains president Eric Ciotti, who earned nearly 1.4 million, good for 5 per cent of the vote, that would take the right wing to over 10 million and 37.05 per cent of the vote.

In comparison, the far-left New Popular Front alliance of communists, socialists, and environmentalists led by radical leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon only received around seven million votes or around 25.7 per cent and Emmanuel Macron’s neo-liberal centrist coalition received 6.3 million votes or 23.15 per cent of the vote.

However, despite receiving 1.7 million fewer votes than RN, the New Popular Front was awarded the most seats of any party, currently projected by Le Monde at 182. Macron’s coalition won an estimated 168 seats, and despite coming in first in terms of vote share, the RN and its partners were awarded the third most seats at a projected 143.

With far-right parties ascendant in France and elsewhere in Europe, the United Kingdom has swung in the opposite direction. Official election results Friday showed a landslide victory for the country’s center-left Labour Party — its first victory in 19 years, since under the leadership of Tony Blair.

Incoming Prime Minister Keir Starmer hailed his win as historic, saying early Friday: “Change begins now.”

Later Friday, he gave his first speech outside the prime minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street, saying, he will lead a “government of service” on a “mission of national renewal” and promised to “rebuild Britain.”

For the Conservatives — the party of Margaret Thatcher, Boris Johnson and outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak — it was the worst defeat in their party’s nearly 200-year history. Prominent lawmakers including former Prime Minister Liz Truss, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Penny Mordaunt lost their seats in Parliament. Sunak retained his seat but resigned Friday as Conservative Party leader, and apologized to the country.

“I am sorry. I have given this job my all but you have sent a clear signal, that the government of the United Kingdom must change,” Sunak told reporters as he and his wife left the prime minister’s residence at 10 Downing Street for the last time. “I have heard your anger, your disappointment and I take responsibility for this loss.”

A terror attack in the Russian region of Dagestan has left 20 dead and scores injured. The attack happened on June 22, 2024, Sunday. The attack targeted multiple locations in the capital Makhachkala and Derbent. The Russians are claiming the attacks came from Islamic “sleeper cells.” Of the 20 confirmed dead, 15 were Police officers, one was a Russian orthodox priest, killed inside his church at Debent.

A Russian official pointed to Islamic “sleeper cells” after gunmen carried out coordinated attacks on synagogues and churches in two cities in the southern region of Dagestan, killing at least 20 people Sunday.

Sunday’s violence in Dagestan’s regional capital of Makhachkala and nearby Derbent was the latest that officials blamed on Islamic extremists in the predominantly Muslim region in the North Caucasus, as well as the deadliest in Russia since March, when gunmen opened fire at a concert in suburban Moscow, killing 145 people. The affiliate of the Islamic State group in Afghanistan that claimed responsibility for March’s raid at the Crocus City concert hall quickly praised the attack in Dagestan, saying it was conducted by “brothers in the Caucasus who showed that they are still strong.”

Dagestan Gov. Sergei Melikov, selected by Russian President Vladimir Putin to lead the region, blamed members of Islamic “sleeper cells” directed from abroad, but did not give any other details. He said in a video statement that the assailants’ goal was “sowing panic and fear,” and attempted to link the attack to Moscow’s military action in Ukraine – but also provided no evidence.

Putin had sought to blame the March attack on Ukraine, again without evidence and despite the claim of responsibility by the Islamic State affiliate. Kyiv has vehemently denied any involvement.

RUSSIA OPENS TERROR PROBE AFTER ATTACKS ON SYNAGOGUES, ORTHODOX CHURCHES; PRIEST AND POLICE OFFICERS KILLED

In this photo taken from video released by The Telegram Channel of the head of Dagestan Republic of Russia on Monday, June 24, 2024, an internal view of the damaged Kele-Numaz synagogue in Derbent.  (The Telegram Channel of the head of Dagestan Republic of Russia via AP)

Of the 20 killed in the armed attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala on Sunday, at least 15 were police, according to the latest figures from Russian authorities on Monday.

Medical authorities in Dagestan said at least 46 people were injured. Of those, at least 13 were police, with four officers hospitalized in grave condition.

Among the dead was Rev. Nikolai Kotelnikov, a 66-year-old Russian Orthodox priest at a church in Derbent. The attackers slit his throat before setting fire to the church, according to Shamil Khadulayev, deputy head of a local public oversight body. The attack came as the Orthodox faithful celebrated Pentecost, also known as Trinity Sunday.

The Kele-Numaz synagogue in Derbent was also set ablaze.

Shortly after the attacks in Derbent, militants fired at a police post in Makhachkala and attacked a Russian Orthodox church and a synagogue there before being hunted down and killed by special forces, The Associated Press reported. The Investigative Committee, the country’s top state criminal investigation agency, opened a terrorism investigation and said all five attackers were killed.

FBI Director Christopher Wray warned earlier this month of a heightened terror threat following the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, coupled with the Oct. 7 attack on southern Israel by Hamas terrorists, warning of “the potential for a coordinated attack here in the homeland, not unlike the ISIS-K attack we saw at the Russian concert hall back in March.”

Appearing on CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday, former CIA Deputy Director Mike Morell, who warned in a recent op-ed about the terror threat posed by vulnerabilities at the U.S.-Mexico border, did not address the attacks in Russia specifically but said the Biden administration and Congress “lack a sense of urgency” in responding to intelligence gaps stifling efforts to properly vet illegal immigrants.

“There needs to be a sense of urgency about this,” Morell said. “And I think the American public needs to understand what the threat is. That’s why we called for a public congressional hearing just on the terrorist threats to the homeland. Right, not a hearing on threats broadly, but threats to the homeland. And then we need to hear what the administration is doing about this in a broad sense, right. Not the details, but in a broad sense.”

FBI DIRECTOR WRAY WARNED OF TERROR THREAT POSED BY OPEN BORDER DAYS BEFORE 8 ISIS SUSPECTS ARRESTED ACROSS US

The Washington-based Institute for the Study of War argued that the Islamic State group’s North Caucasus branch, Vilayat Kavkaz, likely was behind Sunday’s attack, describing it as “complex and coordinated.”

Russian news reports said the attackers included the two sons and a nephew of Magomed Omarov, the head of the Dagestan regional branch of the pro-Kremlin United Russia party. Omarov was detained by police for interrogation, and United Russia quickly dismissed him from its ranks. Melikov later said Omarov had been removed from his post, Russian state news agencies reported.

In the early 2000s, Dagestan saw near-daily attacks on police and other authorities that were blamed on militant extremists. After the emergence of the Islamic State group, many residents of the region joined it in Syria and Iraq. The violence in Dagestan has abated in recent years, but in a sign that extremist sentiments still run high in the region, mobs rioted at an airport there in October, targeting a flight from Israel. More than 20 people were hurt – none of them Israelis – when hundreds of men, some carrying banners with antisemitic slogans, rushed onto the tarmac, chased passengers and threw stones at police.

Not just content to murder, maim, and sell the organs of Uyghurs, the DNC’s frenemy, the CCP, is busy brutally colonizing the now Chinese province of Xinjiang in an effort to wipe the memory of the Uighurs off the face of the planet.

The DNC frenemy is changing the place names of province that happen to be Uighur names and replacing them with Han Supremacist place names. Maya Wang, acting China director at Human Rights Watch, claimed “The Chinese authorities have been changing hundreds of village names in Xinjiang from those rich in meaning for Uyghurs to those that reflect government propaganda. These name changes appear part of Chinese government efforts to erase the cultural and religious expressions of Uyghurs.”

China has “systematically” changed the names of hundreds of villages with religious, historical, or cultural meaning for Uighurs to names that resonate with the ideology of the Chinese Communist Party, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch.

The rights group, working in partnership with Norwegian advocacy organisation Uyghur Hjelp, said it identified 630 villages in the far western region of Xinjiang whose names had been changed in this way by scraping data from 2009 to 2023 on the website of the National Bureau. of Statistics of China. The most common replacements were Happiness, Unity, and Harmony

Chinese entities own farmland near 19 United States military bases across the nation, according to a recent report from the New York Post.

The news outlet released a map showing the locations of the China-owned land in the U.S. and their proximity to some of the nation’s most strategically important bases. The Post noted that some of the sites include Fort Liberty in Fayetteville, North Carolina; Fort Cavazos in Killeen, Texas; Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California; and MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida.

‘The Chinese are, or will, use this farmland to learn more about US military capabilities, movements, and technology.’

Robert S. Spalding III, a retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general, told the Post that the lands’ “proximity to strategic locations” is “concerning.”

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dissolved the six-member war cabinet, an Israeli official said on Monday, in a widely expected move that came after the departure from government of the centrist former general Benny Gantz.

Netanyahu is now expected to hold consultations about the Gaza war with a small group of ministers, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and strategic affairs minister Ron Dermer who had been in the war cabinet.

The prime minister had faced demands from the nationalist-religious partners in his coalition, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, to be included in the war cabinet, a move which would have intensified strains with international partners including the United States.

The forum was formed after Gantz joined Netanyahu in a national unity government at the start of the war in October and also included Gantz’s partner Gadi Eisenkot and Aryeh Deri, head of the religious party Shas, as observers.

The International Monetary Fund released a report that shows the U.S. dollar’s status as the world’s reserve currency is fast shrinking, especially in the last 20 years. The shrinkage is not coming from the rise of other world currencies like the yuan but from the rise of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.

In the report, IMF economists Serkan Arslanalp, Barry Eichengreen and Chima Simpson-Bell claimed “Strikingly, the reduced role of the U.S. dollar over the last two decades has not been matched by increases in the shares of the other ‘big four’ currencies—the euro, yen, and pound. Rather, it has been accompanied by a rise in the share of what we have called nontraditional reserve currencies, including the Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Chinese renminbi, South Korean won, Singaporean dollar, and the Nordic currencies.”

ForbesJanet Yellen Issues Serious $34 Trillion Warning As Bitcoin Predicted To Surge To $1 Million Price

“Strikingly, the reduced role of the U.S. dollar over the last two decades has not been matched by increases in the shares of the other ‘big four’ currencies—the euro, yen, and pound,” IMF economists Serkan Arslanalp, Barry Eichengreen and Chima Simpson-Bell wrote in a report.

“Rather, it has been accompanied by a rise in the share of what we have called nontraditional reserve currencies, including the Australian dollar, Canadian dollar, Chinese renminbi, South Korean won, Singaporean dollar, and the Nordic currencies,” they wrote, pointing to “new digital financial technologies such as automatic market-making and automated liquidity management systems,” as powering that shift.

“This recent trend is all the more striking given the dollar’s strength, which indicates that private investors have moved into dollar-denominated assets,” the economists added.

Earlier this month, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York wrote a report outlining the narratives around “declining dollar shares in official reserves, and increasing roles for gold holdings by central banks,” which it says has been “inappropriately” generalized beyond “the actions of a small group of countries.”

However, some commentators disagreed with the New York Fed’s appraisal of the situation.

“The Fed now admits some countries are moving to gold,” tech investor and former Coinbase chief technology officer Balaji Srinivasan posted to X, pointing to what the Fed says is a “small group” that “represents 3 billion people. So 37.5% of the world is moving away from dollars towards gold.”

Former billionaire and All In podcast “bestie” Chamath Palihapitiya predicted bitcoin could “completely replace gold” as countries adopt it—potentially pushing it’s market capitalization toward gold’s $15.7 trillion.

ForbesLeak Reveals Joe Biden Could Be Planning A Crypto Coup Amid Bitcoin, Ethereum And XRP Price Swings

Meanwhile, independent 2024 U.S. presidential rival to Joe Biden and Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. (RFK Jr), has warned the only way to save the dollar is with bitcoin.

The U.S. dollar decline comes as the Federal Reserve is gearing up to cut interest rates after a two-year war on inflation in the aftermath of historical Covid-era stimulus and money printing.

“Central banks around the world have already started to cut rates, which suggests a broader trend towards monetary easing,” analysts at the Bitfinex bitcoin and crypto exchange wrote in emailed comments.

Fed chair Jerome Powell this week indicated the Fed will cut rates at least once this year after the European Central Bank (ECB) moved to lower interests rates in the Eurozone earlier this month.

“It seems clear that the Bank of England and the Federal Reserve will follow suit in the coming months,” the Bitfinex analysts added. “The global liquidity cycle indicates that money supply is likely to increase, which can support asset prices, including cryptocurrencies.”

Myanmar’s Military is Nearing Annihilation on Border With Bangladesh

The Arakan Army has captured 10 more junta camps in Rakhine State’s Maungdaw in less than two weeks, killing about 200 junta troops including a strategic commander during battles to capture the township, the ethnic army said.

The ethnic army has targeted junta military camps and border guard police positions in the township’s south after seizing northern Maungdaw last month.

It launched a large-scale attack on Maungdaw town in late May following its capture of Buthidaung town. Both towns are located in northeastern Rakhine State near its border with Bangladesh. The people who live in the area are predominantly Rohingya.

In an announcement on Friday, the Arakan Army said it has seized four more junta camps this week, including the Mawyawaddy tactical command base and Na Khaung To camp on Thursday.

During the battles, its forces killed Colonel Tayzar Htay, strategic commander of Mawyawaddy, and about 200 junta troops.

Biden and Trump agree rules for first election debate of 2024

WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden and Donald Trump will face off in a 90-minute debate with mutable microphones, broadcaster CNN said Saturday (Jun 15), as it laid ground rules for the first in-person clash between the pair ahead of November’s election.

The rules for the Jun 27 debate, which will have two hosts and no studio audience, were agreed by the Biden and Trump campaigns, according to CNN.

“Both candidates agreed to appear at a uniform podium, and their podium positions will be determined by a coin flip,” the channel said, adding that microphones “will be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak.”

No props or notes will be allowed on stage, with candidates only given a pen, pad of paper and a bottle of water, CNN said.

It said the debate, hosted in Atlanta, Georgia, will last 90 minutes with two commercial breaks – during which campaign staff cannot interact with their candidate.

Saudi Arabia is urgently seeking investment from China for its ambitious Neom megacity project, which is at the heart of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 strategy.

The plan aims to diversify the kingdom’s economy away from fossil fuels and transform it into a global hub for innovation and technology.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has signed various tech deals with China, further strengthening their economic ties. However, this growing alliance has sparked warnings from the United States, which cautions against the potential consequences if Saudi Arabia draws too close to China.

At a recent exhibition in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia showcased its futuristic vision for Neom, revealing detailed plans for The Line, a vast residential structure intended to house nine million people.

The exhibit also featured designs for a network of underground tunnels for transportation and a desert ski resort in the mountains. This exhibition was part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to secure billions in new investment for Neom, a project whose costs could escalate to over a trillion dollars.

HELSINKI (AP) — The World War II mystery of what happened to a Finnish passenger plane after it was shot down over the Baltic Sea by Soviet bombers appears to finally be solved more than eight decades later.

The plane was carrying American and French diplomatic couriers in June 1940 when it was downed just days before Moscow annexed the Baltic states. All nine people on board the plane were killed, including the two-member Finnish crew and the seven passengers — an American diplomat, two French, two Germans, a Swede and a dual Estonian-Finnish national.

A diving and salvage team in Estonia said this week that it had located well-preserved parts and debris from the Junkers Ju 52 plane operated by Finnish airline Aero, which is now Finnair. It was found off the tiny island of Keri near Estonia’s capital, Tallinn, at a depth of around 70 meters (230 feet).
