During last week’s National Day of Prayer, President Donald Trump signed an executive order creating the Religious Liberty Commission, which will produce a report on how to safeguard religious liberty in the United States.

“It shall be the policy of the executive branch to vigorously enforce the historic and robust protections for religious liberty enshrined in Federal law,” the order says.

“The Founders envisioned a Nation in which religious voices and views are integral to a vibrant public square and human flourishing and in which religious people and institutions are free to practice their faith without fear of discrimination or hostility from the Government.”

The order continued:

“In recent years, some Federal, State, and local policies have threatened America’s unique and beautiful tradition of religious liberty.  These policies attempt to infringe upon longstanding conscience protections, prevent parents from sending their children to religious schools, threaten loss of funding or denial of non-profit tax status for faith-based entities, and single out religious groups and institutions for exclusion from governmental programs.

Some opponents of religious liberty would remove religion entirely from public life.  Others characterize religious liberty as inconsistent with civil rights, despite religions’ vital roles in the abolition of slavery; the passage of Federal civil rights laws; and the provision of indispensable social, educational, and health services.

Therefore, the Federal Government will promote citizens’ pride in our foundational history, identify emerging threats to religious liberty, uphold Federal laws that protect all citizens’ full participation in a pluralistic democracy, and protect the free exercise of religion.”

The Planned Parenthood clinic of Omaha, Nebraska, is experiencing a staffing crisis that abortion advocates claim is the result of corporate executives’ indifference, a Nebraska newsroom reported May 1.

The Flatwater Free Press reported that the clinic’s recent struggles have included burnout, insufficient training, unionization of Planned Parenthood North Central States employees, and high turnover. Training challenges led to a stay on rapid tests for two sexually transmitted diseases, according to the news outlet. All the factors have led to breaks with standard procedures while abortions are performed. The last licensed nurse trained to assist with abortions resigned from the clinic in April.

The Omaha clinic is also under major construction at the moment, resulting in chaos and requests to temporarily close the clinic or limit abortions and other services. However, management ignored the requests, prompting more employees to quit.

The woke public school district in Loudoun County, Virginia, has for years been a key battleground in the war over gender ideology, the primary victims of which have been children. For instance, a skirt-wearing male who identified as “non-binary” took advantage of Loudoun County Public Schools’ ideological capture in 2021, entered the girls’ restroom, and raped a 15-year-old female student.

While students and parents have spoken out against the invasion of female spaces by opportunistic boys, gender-bending incursions in the district are not unidirectional.

A female transvestite has reportedly been using the boys’ locker room at Stone Bridge High. Following a gym class in March, she allegedly videotaped three boys in the locker room who were discussing their discomfort over her presence.

University has faced scrutiny for funding American colleges

A Chinese university which faced scrutiny for its ties to American colleges has hired a former Harvard University chemist convicted of hiding his connections to the country.

As reported by The Harvard Crimson, Charles Lieber “started his new role at Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, where he now holds the school’s highest faculty rank, in Shenzhen, China, on April 28.”

Lieber received two days in prison, six months house arrest, and a fine for hiding Chinese government affiliations and a $50,000 monthly salary and quietly retired from Harvard in 2023, as The College Fix previously reported.

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. will end bombing campaigns against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Trump said the Houthi terrorists had “capitulated,” and that bombing operations would cease immediately after the group said they’d stop bombing ships in the Gulf of Aden and other locations, Trump said in a joint press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The Houthi rebels have targeted commercial ships and U.S. Naval vessels since 2023, causing billions of dollars in economic damage as global shipping was cut off from the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.

“This was always a freedom of navigation issue,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said during the conference. “The job was to get that to stop, and if it’s going to stop, then we can stop.”

President Donald Trump turned what was supposed to be a routine diplomatic meeting into a comedic masterclass Tuesday, sparring with newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Though tensions between the two nations have been on a steady climb — fueled by tariffs, trade disputes, and a hotly contested Canadian election — the president didn’t miss a chance to revive his favorite icebreaker: the idea of Canada becoming America’s 51st state.

Asked directly whether he still believed Canada should join the United States, Trump didn’t skip a beat.

“Well, I still believe that, but, you know, takes two to tango, right?” he said from the Oval Office. “I mean, I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens. You get free military, you get tremendous medical cares and other things. There would be a lot of advantages, but it would be a massive tax cut.”

With Carney sitting across from him, the president then took a detour into art and geography. “As a real estate developer, you know, I’m a real estate developer at heart,” Trump explained. “When you get rid of that artificially drawn line… just a straight line right across the top of the country… I looked at that, you know, I said that’s the way it was meant to be.”

U.S. President Donald Trump heaped praise on newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his “comeback win” in Washington D.C. today, as the two leaders met at the White House for the first time. While Carney maintained Canada is “not for sale,” Trump replied, “never say never.”

While meeting in the White House, Trump said Carney’s win in last Monday’s federal election was the greatest thing that happened to the prime minister, calling it one of the greatest comebacks in the “history of politics.”

“Canada chose a very talented person,” said Trump with Carney sitting next to him.

Trump said he watched the Canadian federal leaders debate, saying the pro-abortion, World Economic Forum-linked Carney was “excellent.”

Trump then noted he had “a lot of respect” for Carney and said he did great in the debate and “ran a really great election.”

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Police arrested dozens of protesters at the University of Washington on Monday night after an antifa-style mob lit fires and took over a building to protest Israel.

“About 30 individuals who occupied” an engineering studies building were arrested and will be referred for prosecution, a university spokesperson said in a Tuesday statement. Videos posted on X by journalists showed black-clothed agitators leading the riot and calling for violence against police, the latest in a long line of unlawful outbursts targeting the university over its supposed financial ties to Israel.

Death to the police! Abolish the police,” one protester yelled at officers outdoors as they cleared others from the building, according to video footage shared by Cam Higby on X. “Every cop death is a victory for the resistance,” a protester can be heard shouting.

Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel (D.) on Monday dropped all charges against seven anti-Semitic protesters arrested last year at the University of Michigan, a move that shocked even the protesters’ lawyers.

Even though Nessel acknowledged that “based on the evidence, a reasonable jury would find the defendants guilty of the crimes alleged,” she said the case had devolved into a “circus-like atmosphere” following months of court delays and allegations of bias on her part, Detroit’s FOX2 reported. Nessel stood by her original decision to pursue felony and misdemeanor charges but said the proceedings were no longer a “prudent use of my department’s resources” and moved to dismiss the cases.

Nessel, who became Michigan’s attorney general in January 2019, has been no stranger to controversy.

A federal appeals court on May 5 rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s bid to stay a lower court ruling that blocked the termination of temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Haitians, and Cubans residing in the United States.

In a ruling, a three-judge panel on the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stated that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had not made “a strong showing” that her categorical termination of the immigrants’ temporary parole would likely be sustained on appeal.

The panel also stated that Noem has not demonstrated that the balance of harms and the public interest “weigh so heavily” to warrant a stay of the lower court order.

The decision follows U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani’s earlier ruling that blocked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from ending a Biden-era two-year parole program for immigrants from the four countries.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Monday in a memo that he wants to cut back on the number of four-star generals in the nation’s military in order to increase efficiency as well as cut bloat. He also vowed to cut back 20 percent of the top National Guard leadership.

He called many of the positions “redundant:”

Hegseth directed the Department of Defense to reduce its active component four-star military officers and general officers in the National Guard by at least 20% each, with a minimum 10% reduction of general and flag officers, according to the memo. The move is intended to improve efficiency and officer quality by removing “unnecessary bureaucratic layers that hinder their growth and effectiveness.”

“Through these measures, we will uphold our position as the most lethal fighting force in the world, achieving peace through strength and ensuring greater efficiency, innovation, and preparedness for any challenge that lies ahead,” Hegseth wrote in the memo.

Tillis is a key vote on the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance Martin’s nomination to a full Senate vote.

“Most of my concerns related to January 6th,” Tillis said.

“If Mr. Martin were being put forth as a U.S. attorney for any district except the district where Jan. 6 happened, the protest happened, I’d probably support him. But not in this district,” Tillis continued.

“At this point, I’ve indicated to the White House I wouldn’t support his nomination,” he added.

Forgive them, for they know not what they do.

This admonition came to my mind this week as I was reminded of the devastation caused by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s decision to pull the plug on a decades-old program funding pregnancy care centers in the Keystone State.

Shapiro canceled the contract of Real Alternatives, an award-winning organization which admirably served pregnant women and their children throughout the Commonwealth.

For one pregnancy center that I am aware of, that meant a loss of $100,000.

Can you imagine how many women can be served with that amount of money? It is a significant loss, not only of treasure, but of service to the community.

The House unanimously passed a bill on May 5 aimed at ending Beijing’s persecution of the spiritual group Falun Gong.

The bill, the Falun Gong Protection Act (H.R.1540), passed with broad bipartisan support and includes provisions to sanction individuals implicated in the forced harvesting of organs of Falun Gong practitioners.

The sanctions would draw from a list of foreign nationals that the president would supply to the relevant congressional committee within 180 days of the bill’s enactment into the law. The prescribed penalties include a civil fine of $250,000 along with criminal punishment of up to $1 million and 20 years in prison.

The sanctions would block an offender from entering the United States, invalidate their visa, and stop any immigration benefits the individual might otherwise enjoy.

(Conservative Treehouse) — The Washington Post (but of course, CIA outlet) is reporting on a downsizing effort within the CIA to eliminate approximately 1,200 jobs. The number represents approximately 5 percent of the workforce, although the actual number of CIA employees is classified (national security, dontchaknow).

Within the report, Director John Ratcliffe is noted as shifting the focus of America’s leading spy agency to use more “human intelligence.” That phrase, “human intelligence,” is IC silo code speak for shifting away from “analysts” (political operatives) and engaging in more factual intelligence information.

According to the report, DNI Tulsi Gabbard has also reduced the employment level within the Director of National Intelligence office by approximately 25 percent (current payroll estimate of 2,000 employees). The general narrative within the WaPo reporting is that “national security” is being compromised by large downsizing of spy agency employment.

The president has long championed the theory SARS-CoV-2 – more commonly known as coronavirus – leaked from the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology in China as a combined result of gain-of-function research and poor security measures sparked a lab leak.

HEGSETH: ‘LESS GENERALS, MORE GIs’: When it comes to the number of generals and admirals in the U.S. military, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has determined there are too many stars in the firmament.

On Monday, Hegseth issued a memorandum titled General/Flag Officer Reductions to senior Pentagon leadership, ordering the removal of “redundant force structure to optimize and streamline leadership by reducing excess general and flag officer positions.”

“That’s the official title. My title is ‘Less Generals, More GI’s,’” Hegseth said in a companion video posted on X. “We’re going to shift resources from bloated headquarters elements to our war fighters.” Hegseth called the plan “historic” and the “most comprehensive review since the Goldwater-Nichols Department of Defense Reorganization Act of 1986,” which he said was “a generational change in combat command structures.”

“Let’s take a bit of a trip down memory lane in history,” Hegseth said in the video. “When we were fighting across the globe during World War II, we had a force that was 12-million-strong. For that 12-million-man element, we had 17 four-and-five-star generals. Today, we have 2.1 million service members and 44 four-star and flag officers. So, it used to be a ratio of one general to 6,000 troops. Today, it’s one general to 1,400.”

Democrats hold supermajorities in both houses of the state legislature. They could have easily passed this into law. The Left Is Trying to Normalize Pedophilia

Republicans tried to push Democrats to increase penalties for soliciting 16- and 17-year-olds for sex or prostitution. That crime is a misdemeanor punishable by between two days to a year in jail. Solicitation involves asking for or arranging sex in exchange for money or something valuable; a host of other sex crimes involving minors of any age are felonies, including paying for and having sex with a minor. This time, Republicans had the backing of freshman Democratic Assemblymember Maggy Krell, of Sacramento, who authored Assembly Bill 379. Krell objected on Tuesday when her colleagues removed the provision on soliciting older minors, saying fellow Democrats had forced her to agree to it on the threat the Public Safety committee would refuse to hold a hearing otherwise (Cal Matters).

As with most foreign countries that do business with the United States, Japan has been in talks with Trump administration officials after President Donald Trump announced tariffs on imports. Some have called the tariffs a disaster for Japan.

On Friday, Japan’s finance minister said that Japan’s status as the largest holder of Treasury securities could be a tool in the talks, in what the Financial Times called a “rare baring of teeth by America’s closest ally in Asia.”

Finance Minister Katsunobu Kato was asked whether Japan would continue to hold its position of not selling its Treasury notes. The U.S. Treasury issues notes to cover the cost of borrowing to keep the country operating.

President Donald Trump has accused Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum of being too “afraid” to deal with drug cartels.

On Sunday, Trump said Sheinbaum is so afraid of drug cartels that “she can’t even think straight.”

The president argues that this is why Sheinbaum rejected his proposal to send American troops into Mexico to fight the bloodthirsty cartels.

Trump made the comments after he was asked whether news that he had made the offer was true.

On Saturday, Sheinbaum said that she had turned down Trump’s offer.

She claimed she rejected the plan because it would impugn Mexican sovereignty.

“It’s true,” Trump told reporters.

Taliban took in $3.4 billion in revenue over past year, boosting cash supply in wake of Biden admin’s Afghan withdrawal

The Taliban took in $3.4 billion in revenue over the last year, boosting its cash supply by 14 percent amid the return of Afghanistan as a central safe haven for terrorist organizations across the Middle East, according to a U.S. government watchdog group.

The repercussions of the Biden administration’s disastrous 2021 military withdrawal from Afghanistan continue to reverberate across the war-torn country, with multiple al Qaeda affiliates accessing American-supplied “weapons seized from the former Afghan National Army,” according to a new oversight report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR).

Donald Trump is reopening and rebuilding the famous Alcatraz prison as part of his push to crack down on crime after four years of pro-crime Democrat policies.

Alcatraz Island in the San Francisco Bay is home to an abandoned federal prison, which has been falling steadily into disrepair since the end of its use in the 1960s. But the island that has become a tourist destination is now set to have a lock-up for dangerous criminals once again, according to Trump‘s announcement on Monday.

Many states have adopted voter identification to bolster election security. But seven states which claim to check voter ID have loopholes, allowing residents to avoid the requirement by simply filling out paperwork.

In Connecticut, Delaware, Idaho, Iowa, Michigan, South Dakota, and Virginia, officials “request” voter ID, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. If someone lacks ID while voting in person, however, they must simply sign forms claiming to be the voter, and officials will let them cast a ballot.

In recent months, noncitizen voting has drawn increasing scrutiny nationwide. The Department of Justice is investigating numerous cases of noncitizen voting, as The Federalist previously reported. In Oregon — which has no ID requirement — officials found more than 1,700 noncitizens on the rolls and registered more than 54,000 of “unknown citizenship.” Hypothetically, in the seven states mentioned above, bad actors could falsely claim others’ identity to vote on their behalf.

Should it be a felony to purchase an underage minor for illegal sex?

For most of us, the answer is a very easy yes. This is not a hard one. You will likely encounter three dozen questions today or tomorrow that will be considerably more difficult to answer. Generally, if someone is asked if there should be severe legal penalties for underage sex trafficking, the response is an immediate, unhesitating affirmative.

Democrats in California feel differently. The state assembly there this past week considered a bill — AB-379 — that would have amended state law to make it a felony to solicit paid sex from “any person under 18 years of age.” In other words, if you seek out and pay a minor for sex — if you engage in child sex trafficking — you would be guilty of a felony.

This should have been an easy move for the assembly; the debate should have taken about 30 seconds and ended with a unanimous vote, passage to the state senate, and a quick signature by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The ink should have still been drying on the bill by suppertime on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump shared his thoughts on a plot from a group of Republican senators to derail the nomination of Ed Martin, the president’s nominee for the critical position of D.C. U.S. Attorney, in a forceful Truth Social post on Monday night.

Martin was appointed to his current position on January 20, the day Trump was sworn in for his second term. As District Attorney for the District of Columbia, Martin serves a unique role of prosecuting both federal and local crimes in the D.C. area.

His predecessor, Matthew Graves, used the position to arrest hundreds of Trump supporters on non-violent trespassing charges relating to the January 6 Capitol protests, many of whom were sentenced to lengthy federal prison terms on non-violent misdemeanor charges.

Martin’s interim appointment can last for a maximum of 120 days, and is set to end on May 20. If Martin is not confirmed by that date, the authority to appointing a replacement will fall to the fervently anti-Trump U.S. District Court.
