An Irish woman told her family that she was going on vacation, but instead she went to Switzerland to die by assisted suicide.

The family of Maureen Slough, 58, of Cavan, Ireland, is now saying that the procedures of the clinic that facilitated her death were not sufficient to allow family members the chance to stop Slough.

Megan Royal explained that her mother said she was off to vacation in Lithuania, according to People. Then the truth emerged.

“A close friend of hers messaged me on the Wednesday night, possibly at like 10 p.m. I was in bed with the baby,” the mother of two said. “He just replied like, ‘Your mom’s in Switzerland.’ He’s like, ‘You have a right to know. I was sworn to secrecy. She’s there and she wants assisted suicide.’ I was so scared in that moment.”

Royal eventually contacted her father, who contacted Slough. Although Slough said she would come home, Royal learned the next day her mother was dead.

“What was worse was not only did I get the text on WhatsApp, they had advised me that her ashes would be posted to me in 6-8 weeks,” she said. “In that very moment, because I was alone, I just sat there with the baby and cried… I just felt like my world ended.”

Pegasos, an assisted dying nonprofit in Liestal, Switzerland, was paid £15,000. The Irish Independent reported that Slough paid out €15,000, which is about £13,000, according to Wise.

The California State University professor whom the California Faculty Association claimed was “kidnapped” by Immigration and Customs Enforcement has officially been indicted by a grand jury for assaulting federal officers.

In July, the CFA had alleged ICE tossed CSU Channel Islands professor Jonathan Caravello into an unmarked vehicle “without identifying themselves” or giving a reason for the arrest.

The night before the incident, Caravello had told the City of Camarillo Council that he was “patrolling the city streets following armed masked thugs trying to kidnap my [undocumented] neighbors.”

President Donald Trump’s plan to allow 600,000 Chinese student visas to be issued drew strong criticism from the right on Monday and Tuesday.

The proposal comes as the president is amid trade talks with China, and backers of the plan could be necessary to keep certain universities afloat, whereas others say it could hinder the opportunities of American students.

“I hear so many stories that we’re not going to allow their students,” Trump told reporters as trade talks with China are ongoing.

“We’re going to allow their students to come in. It’s very important, 600,000 students. It’s very important. But we’re going to get along with China,” he continued.

Trump expanded on his comments during a Cabinet meeting at the White House on Tuesday.

“I think it’s very insulting to say students can’t come here because they’ll go out and start building schools and they’ll be able to survive it. But I like that their students come here. I like that other countries’ students come here. And you know what would happen if they didn’t? Our college system would go to hell very quickly. And it wouldn’t be the top colleges, so it’d be colleges that struggle on the bottom. And you take out 300,000 or 600,000 students out of the system,” Trump said.

“I like having, and I told this to President Xi that we’re honored to have their students here. Now, with that, we check in with careful and we see who’s there,” he added.

The gunman, identified as Robin Westman, 23, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.
