A study in Genome Biology and Evolution finds that the African Swine Fever virus, currently circulating in Europe, is not the result of a recent introduction. Instead, the virus has been present in the region since 2007. Its current dramatic spread appears to be driven largely by people within Europe traveling longer distances. The paper is titled “Exploiting viral DNA genomes to explore the dispersal history of African swine fever genotype II lineages in Europe.”

African Swine Fever virus is a highly virulent DNA virus that causes a severe hemorrhagic disease of the same name, affecting both domestic pigs and wild boars. The disease is characterized by high mortality rates, leading to significant economic losses in the pork industry.

According to estimates from the Food and Agriculture Organization, the virus has led to approximately $2.1 billion in direct economic losses over the past 17 years. Additionally, the outbreak has destroyed many small and medium-sized farms, contributing to structural transformations in agricultural markets, notably in China. Currently, there is no vaccine against the virus available widely.

A new poll is showing that support for same-sex marriage has dropped to a 10-year low among Republicans but spiked to a record high among Democrats.

According to Gallup, 68% of Americans overall support same-sex marriage, barely down from 69% last year. However, that “steady” level of support—approval for same-sex marriage has hovered between 67% and 71% over the past five years and has not fallen below 50% since 2011—belies a stark and rapidly growing political division.

Gallup reports that support for same-sex marriage among Republicans has fallen to 41%, down from an all-time high of 55% in 2021 and 2022 and the lowest point since May of 2016, when support stood at 40%.

Among Democrats, however, support for same-sex marriage has peaked at 88%, the highest point recorded by Gallup among any faction. That’s up from 83% last year. Support for same-sex marriage has not fallen below 70% among Democrats since 2013, when it stood at 69%.

Independent voters generally track more closely with Democrats on the issue but are still lagging 12 points behind at 76%, up from 74% last year but down from an all-time high of 77% in 2023. Support for same-sex marriage has not fallen below 50% among independents since 2010, when it stood at 49%.

Despite statistics on support for same-sex marriage, fewer Americans of all political stripes consider same-sex relationships morally acceptable. According to Gallup, only 38% of Republicans consider same-sex relationships morally acceptable, compared to 69% of independent voters and 86% among Democrats.

It is de rigueur today in certain circles to state as a matter of proven fact that Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza. This is a lie. I’ll explain why below, but first I want to explain just how pernicious and awful that lie actually is.

Genocide is the worst crime any nation or group of people can ever commit. The Oxford Languages Dictionary defines genocide as “the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group.” In 2025, there is no more heinous crime than engaging in genocide. It is the very worst thing in the modern world, and moral people everywhere know that virtually any means of violence are justified in stopping actual, genuine genocide.

Which explains the illegal alien Egyptian who firebombed Holocaust survivors in Boulder, and the pro-Hamas activist who tried to burn down a Jewish governor’s official residence, and another pro-Hamas activist who gunned down two Israeli embassy workers at the Capital Jewish Museum. They thought they were fighting to end genocide. You see, to the men who perpetrated these crimes, they were entirely justified in what they did because their actions were moral, just, and necessary to end a “genocide.” There is a certain level of seemingly rational and moral thought there.

Ukraine‘s SBU intelligence service said the blast left the bridge in an “emergency state” after devastating its foundations.

It was at least the third attempt to destroy the key road and rail link from Russia to occupied Crimea.

The same SBU special forces unit behind Sunday’s historic drone strikes in Russia claimed responsibility for the pre-dawn attack.

They claimed their agents spent months mining the substructure of the 12 mile road and rail link.

The SBU said: “The SBU conducted a new unique special operation and struck the Crimean Bridge for the third time — this time underwater.”

They added: “The operation lasted several months. SBU agents mined the supports of this illegal facility.

“Today, without any casualties among the civilian population, at 4.44am in the morning the first explosive device was activated.

Ex-CIA analyst Larry Johnson says Ukraine could not have carried this out alone, and that the operation bears the fingerprints of the CIA and/or British MI6.

By now, you’ve all heard about Ukraine’s massive assault using killer drones that attacked Russian airfields housing the nuclear bomber fleet in Siberia, as well as several other locations deep within Russia’s heartland.

The mainstream narrative is that the operation took over 18 months to plan and execute, and was ‘personally overseen’ by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, it is hard to believe that Zelensky, a former homo-erotic dancer and actor, was prepared for this attack.

The attack, according to mainstream reports, took out 41 aircraft or roughly 34 percent of Russia’s fleet of strategic bombers.

CNN persisted Tuesday in publishing fake news pushed by Hamas, claiming that “dozens” of Palestinians had been killed near an American-run aid side in Gaza, despite Israeli denials and a history of Hamas lies.

Israeli government spokesman David Mencer told journalists: “The IDF did not fire at civilians in, or near, humanitarian aid distribution zones.”

The story came a day after U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee demanded that CNN and other outlets retract false reporting of dozens of Palestinians being killed at a Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) site Sunday.

CNN reported its story under the headline, “Dozens of Palestinians killed near Gaza aid distribution point, health officials say, in third day of shooting.” It cited the Gaza “health ministry” — without noting that the “ministry” is controlled entirely by Hamas and has a long record of false and sensational claims — and reported that “Israeli forces opened fire on Palestinians as they made their way to the distribution site in Tel al-Sultan in Rafah.”

A dozen people were stabbed at a shelter for the unhoused in Salem, Oregon, on Sunday evening, according to authorities.

Salem police said they arrested a man in connection with the mass stabbing carried out at about 7.15pm local time at a facility run by an organization called the Union Gospel Mission.

The suspect in the case was identified as Tony Latrell Williams, 42, of Bend, Oregon. Investigators said there was no indication Williams had targeted the shelter in advance of Sunday’s bloodshed.

First responders initially brought 11 victims to a local hospital with “varying types” of wounds. At a news briefing on Monday, Salem police deputy chief Treven Upkes said officers discovered a 12th stabbing victim while interviewing witnesses.

Five of those stabbed remained in critical condition Monday, police said.

A Guatemalan court ordered Monday the arrests of Colombia’s attorney general and a former Colombian defense minister who led a U.N. anti-corruption mission in Guatemala.

Guatemalan prosecutor Rafael Curruchiche, who himself has been sanctioned by the United States and other countries for allegedly interfering in corruption investigations, had requested that an appeals court issue the arrest orders for Colombia’s top prosecutor Luz Adriana Camargo Garzón, who was the chief of investigations of the Guatemala mission, and Iván Velásquez, who had led the mission and later was Colombia’s defense minister.

Curruchiche said Camargo and Velásquez had committed illicit association during their investigation into bribes paid to Guatemalan officials by Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht.

Along with former Guatemalan prosecutors working with the U.N. mission, Velásquez and Camargo were part of “a criminal structure led by the former CICIG commissioner,” using the Spanish initials of the U.N. mission, Curruchiche alleged.

SOFIA, Bulgaria — Bulgaria is close to realizing its decades-old goal of joining the euro currency union and deepening ties with the more prosperous countries of Western Europe. But the government faces a populist backlash against the shared currency on the eve of a key decision by European Union authorities.

Fears of inflation, poverty and the unknown are mingling with disinformation spread on social media that aims to turn people against the euro. The discontent tracks with increased support for populist and anti-EU parties across Europe, which is exploited by nationalist and pro-Russian politicians in a country that remains one of Europe’s poorest and most afflicted with corruption.

“Adopting the euro will make us feel the threshold of poverty. After all, prices will be in euros,” said 78-year-old retiree Tanya Ignatova.

“Bulgaria is not ready for the euro. Someday we may be ready, but not now,” said another retiree, Mario Georgiev.

Several thousand people rallied against the euro in the capital on Saturday, urging a referendum on whether to transition from the lev currency to the euro. The head of the pro-Russian Varazhdane party, Kostadin Kostadinov, told the crowd that “Bulgaria has risen and declared: Freedom, we choose the Bulgarian lev!”

On Sunday an illegal alien named Mohamed Soliman allegedly shouted, “Free Palestine” and used a makeshift flamethrower to set a crowd of Jews on fire in Boulder, Colorado. According to a criminal complaint, Soliman — who has been charged with a federal hate crime and several other crimes — said that he “wanted to kill all Zionist people and wished they were all dead.” But the media seem just as eager to downplay the antisemitic nature of this attack (and other instances of violence against Jews) as they were to accuse Elon Musk of antisemitism for raising his hand in the air.

Anyone surprised by these polling numbers isn’t paying attention, as they’d have to be intentionally naive not to see that the left has become the party of the rich, while Republicans are now the party of the middle class.

This becomes especially clear when you consider that the left effectively replaced a sitting president through the influence of major donors, with zero input from voters. That does not represent the little guy in middle America, as the left has increasingly become aligned with big tech and corporate interests, despite claims to the contrary.

Harry Enten, CNN’s data analyst, said what we all know to be true, which is that “For decades, polls showed Dems had a double-digit edge on the party that looked out for/was the party of the middle class. Polls now show the GOP/Trump has totally eliminated that gap.”

In other words, despite the left’s attempts to fearmonger and gaslight the public about the economy, Republicans still hold a 10-point lead on economic issues, despite claims of an economic calamity that simply won’t happen, at least not in the next several years.

Apple heiress Laurene Powell Jobs, Google founder Eric Schmidt, and the George Soros-backed Tides Foundation are among the Democratic heavyweights bankrolling the anti-Israel charity of activist Kamau Franklin, who called Elias Rodriguez’s alleged assassination of two Israeli diplomats in Washington, D.C., a “morally righteous” act.

Franklin runs Community Movement Builders, an Atlanta-based nonprofit that promotes “liberation” ideology for black Americans, Palestinians, and other groups. The organization embraces radical rhetoric in support of those causes, referring to police as “pigs” and calling the state of Israel “the result of a war crime.”

Last week, Franklin signed an open letter defending Rodriguez’s assassination of Israeli diplomats Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky at the Capital Jewish Museum. The letter, which Franklin touted on his social media feeds, called Rodriguez’s actions “fully justified,” “eminently defensible,” and “morally righteous.” And in a thinly veiled threat, the letter says Rodriguez’s shooting will “teach a lesson and set an example” for supporters of Israel. Community Movement Builders, which Franklin formed in 2015, also expressed support on social media for Unity of Fields, an anti-Israel organization that published the open letter.

The group’s radical rhetoric could raise concerns for its roster of deep-pocketed donors, while showing that violent, anti-Israel sentiments are closer to the Democratic Party mainstream than they would like to admit. Of the $2.9 million that Community Movement Builders raised in 2023, the most recent year for which tax information is available, nearly $2 million came through large donations from the charities of several Democratic donors, liberal philanthropies, and groups in the Arabella network, a Democratic dark money juggernaut.

Former Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg has issued a stark warning about the handling of the murder case of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, who was brutally killed in Houston.

Ogg revealed that one of the alleged killers, Franklin Peña Ramos, had been involved in a prior sexual assault in Costa Rica—a crime that was neither prosecuted nor properly recorded—allowing him to enter the United States without issue.

The revelation has sparked public outrage, especially from those who argue that the current immigration policies make it easier for dangerous individuals to enter the country.

The community is demanding answers, while the new District Attorney, Sean Teare, faces criticism for allegedly adopting a “soft-on-crime” stance that could threaten the pursuit of full justice for Jocelyn.

Jocelyn’s body was discovered on June 17, 2024. Investigators believe she was sexually assaulted and murdered by Peña Ramos and Johan Martínez-Rangel, both Venezuelan nationals residing in the U.S. illegally. The brutality of the crime shocked the nation.

The Muslim terrorist who perpetrated the firebombing attack on Jewish Americans at a rally in Boulder, Colorado, was not only allowed to enter the U.S. illegally during Biden’s term in office, but Biden also gave him limited legal status and a work permit.

Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, was identified as the man who tried to murder Jewish people at the Boulder rally by spraying flammable liquid on them, then lighting them up with a flamethrower-style device, the Boulder Police say.

But now, Fox News reporter Bill Melugin reports that Soliman was coddled and given legal status by Biden.

Melugin says he was told the Egyptian national “arrived at LAX on 8/27/22 on a B1/B2 nonimmigrant visa with an authorized stay through 2/26/23, but he overstayed & never left.”

“I’m told on 9/29/22, he filed some sort of claim with USCIS, potentially an asylum claim, and on 3/29/23, USCIS under the Biden admin gave him work authorization, which expired on 3/28/25,” Melugin continued.

Harvard yearbook ignores Oct. 7 massacre — but includes pic of John Harvard statue in Palestinian keffiyeh: ‘Whitewashing terrorism’

Harvard needs a history lesson, according to students outraged over its 2025 yearbook ignoring the October 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack on Israel.

The book instead depicts only Israel’s aggression in Gaza, with its October 2023 entry including a photo of the famous John Harvard statue draped in a keffiyeh with a caption reading “War breaks out in Gaza.”

The official Harvard yearbook, the 520–page book aimed to capture the “Harvard experience” and described as “Harvard. Immortalized,” shocked graduating seniors when they flipped through the pages recapping every month since their freshman year.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is not exactly a popular figure right now, even among his fellow Democrats. As we’ve been covering throughout President Donald Trump’s second term, Schumer keeps having particularly cringeworthy moments, especially over social media, and he’s been ratioed over X plenty of times. The latest incident of terrorism against Jews and supporters of Israel is no different, as we saw from Sunday’s terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, which Schumer has responded to over social media.

“I’m closely monitoring the situation in Boulder. This is horrifying, and this cannot continue. We must stand up to antisemitism,” he posted on Sunday night, minutes after Mohamed Soliman allegedly targeted with Molotov cocktails.  those participating in a pro-Israel “Run for Their Lives” event.

The Boulder, Colorado terror attack suspect planned on commiting a mass shooting over the weekend, however, he was stopped from obtaining a firearm due to his immigration status in the United States.

Illegal immigrant Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, who admitted he was planning to carry out the attack a year in advance, also told detectives that he was planning to make the attack a mass shooting. He had even taken a concealed-carry course to learn how to handle a firearm, according to the New York Post.

However, his attempt to purchase a gun was thwarted due to his status in the country illegally after the expiry of his visa, Boulder Judicial District Attorney Michael Dougherty said. Soliman, who is facing a total of 624 years behind bars, appeared in court on Monday afternoon, where he said he understood the orders placed against him involving the 12 victims. It was initially reported that there were eight people injured in the attack before four others came forward with injuries.

Soliman is facing 16 counts of attempted murder, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 384 years if convicted. He also faces 48 years for deploying two Molotov cocktails and another 192 years for allegedly attempting to use 16 additional incendiary devices found nearby. He has also been hit with federal hate crime charges.

If the rise of antisemitism after Hamas’ surprise October 7, 2023, attack on Israel didn’t indicate that more Jewish Americans should arm themselves, the wave of anti-Jewish assaults that occurred in recent months definitely should.

Fortunately, many Jewish Americans have already recognized this and have begun purchasing firearms at increasing rates. But the terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, shows that not only do more Jewish folks need to become gun owners, but also join the fight against gun control.

In the year following the October 7 attack, antisemitic incidents in the United States have skyrocketed to unprecedented levels, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). The organization reported over 10,000 cases—the highest yearly figure since 1979. It represents a 200 percent increase from the previous year.

The Supreme Court declined to take up a pair of gun rights cases Monday, leaving in place Maryland’s ban on semiautomatic military-style rifles and Rhode Island’s restrictions on large-capacity magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

The court’s action drew dissents from three conservatives, showing that the Supreme Court is still divided on how to handle Second Amendment cases after the justices expanded gun rights in a 2022 landmark decision.

Justice Clarence Thomas said the high court should have reviewed the lower-court ruling in the Maryland case and not put off the question of whether the government can ban the most popular rifle in America. The answer, he wrote, is of “critical importance to tens of millions of law-abiding AR-15 owners throughout the country.”

Jun. 2—AUGUSTA — Gov. Janet Mills has signed a new law creating an annual “day to remember” honoring democracy on the anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

The law, signed Thursday, will require the governor to issue a proclamation each year on the date “honoring the resilience of democracy” and encouraging people to use the day to reflect “on the values of democracy, civic responsibility and the importance of protecting constitutional governance.”

The annual proclamation would also encourage educational institutions and libraries to observe the day with discussions, events and programming to educate people about the importance of civic engagement and the rule of law.

Mills condemned the Jan. 6 attacks at the time, saying that leaders across the country should denounce the violence and defend democracy, and that all Americans should work to restore honor and decency.

The economy contracted at a 0.2% annual rate in the first quarter of 2025, the Bureau of Economic Analysis said Thursday in a revision to its estimate of GDP.

A preliminary report from the agency found that the economy contracted at a 0.3% rate in the quarter, so Thursday’s report represented an upward revision in the growth rate of a tenth of a percentage point.

While it is a slight improvement, the new report highlights the challenges the economy and President Donald Trump face in the coming months. They also raise concerns about the potential for a recession.

This is the second of three GDP estimates the BEA has published for the first quarter as more data are analyzed. The final report will come in late June.
