Using OpenAI’s ChatGPT instead of Google’s search engine is becoming more common in the US, according to a new survey of 1,000 people by Adobe Express. More than three-quarters (77%) of respondents say they use ChatGPT for searches — and 25% have it as their first choice.

Not surprisingly, children and young people in particular prefer ChatGPT to Google. What attracts them most: getting answers to everyday questions or getting creative inspiration. Users said they also appreciate the ability to get summaries of complicated topics and to avoid having to click on a lot of links.

Three in 10 people surveyed said they trust ChatGPT over other search engines, and 47% of marketers and business owners use ChatGPT to promote their business.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is making a bold push to reform the nation’s organ procurement and transplantation system following alarming findings from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

Under the leadership of Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., HHS launched a probe into organ harvesting at hospitals across the country.

The investigation, which focused on organ donation protocols, revealed that some patients were still alive when their organs were harvested.

The discovery has sparked widespread concern.

Grammy-winning R&B singer Victoria Monét revealed she faced pressure from a music executive to have an abortion after an unexpected pregnancy, highlighting a broader issue of coercion that pro-life advocates say affects many women.

In a recent appearance on former First Lady Michelle Obama’s podcast, Monét shared the emotional toll of being presented with a PowerPoint outlining the challenges of motherhood, an experience she said felt like an encouragement to end her pregnancy.

“In retrospect, it was really, really disheartening,” Monét said of the incident. “I had a person on my team, though the intentions were good, really, really hurt my feelings because they made a PowerPoint presentation to me about how difficult it will be for me.”

She recalled the presentation’s finale, which asked, “what’s the rush?”—a statement she interpreted as pressure to abort her unborn child.

President Donald Trump on Friday dismissed French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state — a notably gentler response than the sharp condemnation from Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other top Republicans, who blasted the move a day earlier.

“What he says doesn’t matter,” Trump told reporters at the White House. “He’s a very good guy. I like him, but that statement doesn’t carry weight.”

Macron took to X on Thursday to announce his intention for France to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations General Assembly next September.

Ghislaine Maxwell’s attorney David Oscar Markus has said the deputy attorney general has finished his questioning for the day, NBC News reports.

“We started this morning right around 9 o’clock, and went to now lunchtime, and we’re finished after all day, yesterday and today, Ghislaine answered every single question asked of her over the last day and a half, she answered those questions honestly, truthfully, to the best of her ability. She never invoked a privilege. She never refused to answer a question,” Markus told reporters as he left the federal courthouse in downtown Tallahassee, Florida.

“They asked about every single, every possible thing you could imagine. Everything.”

The justice department has not said whether Blanche intends to question Maxwell further. Markus said he did not know whether the discussions would have any impact on her case.

We don’t know how it’s going to play out. We just know that this was the first opportunity she’s ever been given to answer questions about what happened and so the truth will come out about what happened with Mr Epstein, and she’s the person who’s answering those questions,” he said.

France will officially recognise a Palestinian state in September, President Emmanuel Macron has said, which will make it the first G7 nation to do so.

In a post on X, Macron said the formal announcement would be made at a session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

“The urgent need today is for the war in Gaza to end and for the civilian population to be rescued. Peace is possible. We need an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and massive humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza,” he wrote.

Palestinian officials welcomed Macron’s decision, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the move “rewards terror” following Hamas’s 7 October 2023 attack in Israel.

The US “strongly rejects” Macron’s announcement, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, calling the decision “reckless”.

The G7 is a group of major industrialised nations, which alongside France includes the US, the UK, Italy, Germany, Canada and Japan.

In his Thursday post on X, Macron wrote: “True to its historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided that France will recognise the State of Palestine.

“The humanitarian catastrophe that we are witnessing in Gaza must end now,” Sir Keir Starmer said in a joint statement with German chancellor Friedrich Merz and French president Emmanuel Macron.

The three leaders held discussions on the crisis in Gaza amid growing fears of mass starvation in the area.

In their statement they said: “The most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to water and food, must be met without any further delay,”

“Withholding essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable.

“We call on the Israeli government to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid and urgently allow the UN and humanitarian NGOs to carry out their work in order to take action against starvation. Israel must uphold its obligations under international humanitarian law.”

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is launching digital ads targeting a dozen Republican-held House districts, calling for the release of files related to financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

One ad features Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) calling the controversy a “serious issue” and saying that the highest volume of calls to her office have concerned the Epstein files, while another calls out the House GOP with the caption “House Republicans shut down Congress to bury the truth.”

A clip of President Trump standing next to Epstein plays in the background of the latter.

Both ads tell viewers to call their representatives and demand that the Epstein files are released.

Momentum had been building among Democrats and some Republicans for Congress to vote to force the Trump administration to release the documents related to the case. But House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced the body would start its summer recess a day early as Democrats sought to force votes in the Rules Committee to release the files, dividing Republicans.

Democrats have sought to use the lingering controversy as a way to go on offense against Trump and the Republican Party, accusing them of protecting pedophiles. The topic of the Epstein files has received significant national attention for a few weeks since the Justice Department memo stating the Epstein didn’t have a “client list,” as has been alleged, and that the department wouldn’t release additional documents to protect alleged victims.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced late Wednesday the formation of a Strike Force in response to new revelations about how former President Barack Obama and members of the intelligence community fabricated the Russia hoax that haunted President Donald Trump’s first term and cost American taxpayers millions of dollars.

Attorney General Pam Bondi said in a statement that the Strike Force will “assess the evidence” and “investigate potential next legal steps,” related to a damning 2020 report released this week by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

“There is irrefutable evidence that detail how President Obama and his national security team directed the creation of an Intelligence Community Assessment that they knew was false,” Gabbard said during a White House press conference on Wednesday. “We have referred and will continue to refer all of these documents to the Department of Justice and the FBI, to investigate the criminal implications of this. … The evidence that we have found, and that we have released, directly point to President Obama leading the manufacturing of this intelligence assessment. There are multiple pieces of evidence and intelligence that confirm that fact.”

A federal Strike Force is made up of teams of investigators from multiple agencies working together to uncover complex cases of fraud and other offenses. Originally, Strike Forces were used to investigate webs of organized crime. For example, in the late 1960s, a Strike Force in Buffalo, New York, made up of attorneys and agents from several federal agencies achieved 30 indictments within the organized crime network, in part by learning about the organization’s leadership structure.

What did former President Barack Obama know about the Russia collusion hoax, and when did he know it?

In short, it looks as if he knew everything from the beginning, because it appears that he ordered it.

On Friday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released a 114-page PDF filled with declassified documents detailing the origins of what she said was a years-long, Obama-directed coup against President Donald Trump.

Gabbard has characterized her findings as a “treasonous conspiracy” based on “manufactured intelligence.”

A key piece of evidence appeared on page 72 of Gabbard’s Friday documents dump. That file indicates that then-DNI James Clapper would take the lead on an inter-agency effort to fashion a narrative regarding Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election that contravened the intelligence community’s (IC) previous assessments.

“The IC is prepared to produce an assessment per the President’s request, that pulls together the information we have on the tools Moscow used and the actions it took to influence the 2016 election, an explanation of why Moscow directed these activities, and how Moscow’s approach has changed over time, going back to 2008 and 2012 as reference points,” the declassified document read.

ODNI Tulsi Gabbard made a surprise appearance in the White House press briefing room after she released the second batch of previously undisclosed documents on Wednesday morning that include more proof that Barack Obama directly gave the order to publish Russia Collusion hoax knowing there was no proof to back it up.

Wednesday’s document release followed Friday’s document dump by ODNI Tulsi Gabbard of a declassified December 2016 presidential briefing revealing Barack Obama knew the Trump-Russia collusion narrative was a hoax.

Tulsi went off on Barack Obama for covering up the blackmail Putin had on Hillary Clinton.

“This included possible criminal acts, like secret meetings with multiple organizations. In exchange for supporting secretary Clinton’s campaign for the presidency, significant increases in financing from the state department,” Tulsi told White House reporters.

“They also had documents that showed the patronage of the state department, to state department employees who would support Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign,” Tulsi said.

A day after suspected would-be presidential assassin Ryan Wesley Routh refused to meet with his court-appointed defense attorney at a federal lockup in Miami, U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon approved Routh’s motion to proceed to trial as a pro se defendant representing himself.

Routh, 59, of Greensboro, N.C., faces Sept. 8 jury selection in his trial on five federal counts charging him with aiming a sniper rifle through a fence and trying to kill President Donald J. Trump on Sept. 15, 2024, at Trump’s West Palm Beach, Fla., golf resort.

‘The attorney-client relationship is irreconcilably broken.’

Routh wrote a letter to Judge Cannon, entered on the court docket July 11, complaining bitterly about his federal public defenders and stating that it’s “best I walk alone.” The judge held Faretta hearings on July 10 and July 24 before ruling in an eight-page order that Routh can proceed as his own attorney.

The judge ordered federal public defenders Kristy Militello and Renee Sihvola to serve on the case as standby counsel.

Militello filed a motion with the court to withdraw from the case after she said Routh repeatedly refused to meet with her for their scheduled July 22 consultation at the Federal Correctional Institution-Miami.

“This Department of Justice does not shy away from uncomfortable truths, nor from the responsibility to pursue justice.”

Ghislaine Maxwell and US Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had a “very productive day,” Maxwell’s attorney said, after the DOJ official traveled to Florida to meet with infamous financier Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice, who is currently serving a 20-year prison term in Tallahassee for sex trafficking charges.

David Oscar Markus said of the meeting, “[Blanche] took a full day and asked a lot of questions. Miss Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped. She never invoked a privilege. She never declined to answer. She answered all the questions truthfully, honestly and to the best of her ability,” per Fox News.

Maxwell’s brother, Ian, told the outlet that she is reportedly compiling evidence related to her 2021 trial over alleged government misconduct. “Clearly, we must now see how this plays out,” he said.

Ian Maxwell told reporters, “She will be putting before that court material new evidence that was not available to the defense at her 2021 trial, which would have had a significant impact on its outcome.”

Of all of the bombshell revelations in newly declassified documents detailing the making of the Russia collusion hoax, perhaps the least stunning is that Democratic officials believed Hillary Clinton was suffering from “intensified psycho-emotional problems.”

That troubling nugget is part of a file — a dossier, if you will — that the Russians reportedly held on the failed 2016 presidential candidate. The fact that Bad Vlad Putin and the Kremlin crew didn’t drop the politically damaging information during the campaign blows up the manufactured premise of the corrupt “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation.

“Putin held back leaking some compromising material for post-election use against the expected Clinton Administration,” states a declassified 2020 report from the Republican-led House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI). The report was released Wednesday with the approval of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who in recent days has unsealed a trove of buried Intelligence Community (IC) records exposing what she has described as a “years-long coup” against President Donald Trump.

“This report is the final nail in the coffin of the Russia hoax, which has perpetrated the greatest political fraud on the American people for over 8 years and undermined President Trump’s first term in office,” Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford, R-Ark., said Wednesday in a press release. “This HPSCI staff report, for the first time, exposes in-depth details on how the Intelligence Community manufactured the Russia collusion hoax.”

The Jeffrey Epstein political football bounced back and forth between Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Senate Thursday, with both sides blocking each others’ resolutions to release the files.

Democrats blocked a GOP measure calling for the courts to unseal “all credible information on the Epstein case,” and Republicans rejected a Democrat’s resolution demanding the Department of Justice to release all of its files related to the investigation.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin’s (R-Okla.) resolution called for federal and state courts to “immediately unseal ALL materials that were part of any criminal investigation or prosecution of Jeffrey Epstein or Ms. Ghislaine Maxwell—subject only to redactions to protect victims.”

Mullin’s resolution comports with Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi’s directive to the courts to “produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony.”

This approach, however, hit a snag on Wednesday when an Obama-appointed federal judge in Florida denied the Justice Department’s request to unseal court files on Epstein.

NEW YORK — Disgraced former U.S. Rep. George Santos is expected to begin serving a seven-year prison sentence on Friday for the fraud charges that got him ousted from Congress.

The New York Republican pleaded guilty last summer to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft charges for deceiving donors and stealing people’s identities in order to fund his congressional campaign.

He must report to federal prison before 2 p.m. It’s unclear where he’ll serve his time, though a federal judge has recommended that Santos be housed in a facility in the Northeast.

Santos and his lawyers repeatedly declined to comment to The Associated Press, and the federal Bureau of Prisons said it doesn’t discuss the status of inmates until they’re officially in custody.

In a Thursday interview with Al Arabiya, a Saudi state-owned news organization, Santos said he’ll serve his sentence in a minimum-security prison “camp” that he described as a “big upgrade” from the medium-security lockup he was initially assigned to.

ABSTRACT: Online misinformation can provoke social disputes, promote the normalization of prejudice, and bias social perceptions of social groups. In Israel, where society is already polarized, exposure to misinformation could exacerbate existing tensions between the ultra-orthodox (Haredi) and the general population.

Furthermore, the low digital literacy of the Haredi population presumably makes them more vulnerable to the influence of misinformation.

This study compared the ability of Haredi and non-Haredi Jews to detect misinformation, while examining the relationship between misinformation detection and digital literacy and knowledge. 83 Jewish participants (Haredi and non-Haredi) evaluated the credibility of online news articles. Eye tracking technology was used to examine participants’ scan patterns and attention to information metadata. The results showed that Haredi participants were less successful in identifying false messages and less attentive to metadata.

However, when combined with other predictors in multivariate regression, Haredi became a non-significant predictor, and digital knowledge and activity on social networks were found to be significant and strong predictors of misinformation identification. In terms of digital literacy, while there was no difference in subjective assessment, the study found a significant gap between the two populations in terms of psychophysiological behavioral indices (i.e., scan patterns) and digital knowledge.

The implications of such dramatic differences in skills and the vulnerability to false messages of a secluded, disadvantaged population, as well as the need to invest resources to increase digital literacy among the Haredi population to reduce these gaps, are discussed.

More than 100 aid organisations warned on Wednesday that “mass starvation“ was spreading in Gaza, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reports.

Israel is facing mounting international pressure over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory, where more than 2 million people face severe shortages of food and other essentials after 21 months of conflict, triggered by Hamas’s attack on Israel.

The UN said on Tuesday that Israeli forces had killed more than 1,000 Palestinians trying to get food aid since the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation started operations in late May – in effect sidelining the existing UN-led system.

A statement with 111 signatories, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Save the Children and Oxfam, warned that “our colleagues and those we serve are wasting away”.

Russian soldiers needing medical care returned by Ukraine

Two Russian soldiers in need of medical care were handed over by Ukrainian authorities yesterday to be returned home, the Russian defence ministry said.

A ministry statement on Telegram said the two servicemen were handed over and taken to Belarus, one of Moscow’s closest allies, on Russia’s western border. They were receiving treatment in Belarus and would soon return to Russia, it said.

The statement said the action was undertaken on the basis of agreements reached at the second of two direct meetings aimed at ending the conflict last month between Russian and Ukrainian representatives.

The two meetings in Istanbul resulted in agreements to return prisoners of war and remains of fallen soldiers, but made little progress towards an end to the more than three-year-old conflict.
