President Donald Trump received multiple standing ovations at the Knesset, Monday morning, as he addressed Israel’s parliament following the release of 20 Israeli hostages.

“After two harrowing years in darkness and captivity, 20 courageous hostages are returning to the glorious embrace of their families,” Trump told the plenum. “After so many years of unceasing war and endless danger, today the skies are calm, the guns are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises on a Holy Land that is finally at peace.”

Trump delivered remarks in Israel and met with families of hostages ahead of his trip to Egypt, where he co-hosted a summit on Gaza’s future with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi that was attended by more than 20 world leaders.

Since returning to office, President Trump has faced an onslaught of leftist-backed lawfare seeking to grind the implementation of his voters’ agenda to a halt. Unsurprisingly, many of these lawsuits have been filed in districts predominated by Democrat-appointed judges, who have been more than happy to issue a myriad of preliminary injunctions and temporary restraining orders blocking enforcement of the administration’s policies.

Now, with the U.S. Supreme Court largely agreeing to shut down this lower court judicial coup for the time being, a number of rogue judges have taken to anonymously attacking the high court for stopping the crisis they helped create.

China and Taiwan: A really simple guide

Blurb:

An invasion of Taiwan by China could leave the world on the brink of World War 3, a military expert has warned. Former intelligence officer Philip Ingram explained how Taiwan is preparing to defend itself using its so-called ‘porcupine strategy’, while warning war between the two Asian nations could “ignite an even greater conflict” than that seen in Ukraine, where he described “the world’s attention is fixed”.

China has the largest military in the world, and US intelligence has previously suggested Xi Jinping has ordered his forces to be ready for a possible invasion of Taiwan as soon as 2027. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory, viewing the self-ruled island nation as a breakaway province, and has not ruled out seizing it by force. Beijing has been rapidly advancing its military capabilities in recent years, with Russia allegedly also supplying the country with weaponry.

Mr Ingram, a military intelligence expert, said Beijing views Taiwan as “destiny”, while for the US “it’s a red line”.

In the latest episode of The Sun’s Battle Plans Exposed, Mr Ingram detailed how Taiwan — which is around 100 miles off China’s south-east coast — would use its porcupine strategy to defend itself.

He said the strategy, also known as asymmetric defence, does not aim to defeat China in a traditional war but “to make an invasion so difficult, so costly and so bloody that Beijing is deterred from ever attempting it”.

Authorities have arrested Jonathan Rinderknecht, 29, for allegedly starting a fire that turned into the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles, CA.

Rinderknecht allegedly started the fire on January 1. It exploded due to intense winds on January 7 and ripped through the prestigious neighborhood of Pacific Palisades, killing 12 people. It also destroyed over 6,000 homes and buildings.

The authorities have charged Rinderknecht with destruction of property by means of fire.

Rinderknecht will appear in a federal court in Florida, where he resides, on Wednesday.

The complaint accuses Rinderknecht of starting “the fire on land owned by the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (“MRCA”), an organization that received federal funding.”

The investigation reportedly revealed Rinderknecht’s proximity to the fire, which started late at night on December 31, 2024, while he was working as an Uber driver. He knew the area because he used to live there.

The complaint states that Rinderknecht admitted to walking up the Skull Rock Trailhead that night to the top of a hill known as Hidden Buddha.

Republican Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter is urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the network of organizations backed by billionaire megadonor George Soros for potential involvement in politically motivated violence, the Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

In a letter sent Thursday to Attorney General Pam Bondi, Carter called for a “comprehensive and immediate” investigation into the Open Society Foundations and other groups backed by billionaire megadonor George Soros to “determine whether they are in violation of any federal laws related to domestic terrorism, material support for violence, or other illegal activities targeting Americans based on political beliefs.”

“There is growing concern, based on credible reporting, that George Soros’ Open Society Foundations have played a significant role in funding organizations associated with promoting political extremism and engage in or endorse actions that meet the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s definition of domestic terrorism,” Carter wrote.

“The funding of organizations that engage in, support, or incite political violence must not be tolerated,” the congressman, who is currently in a three-way Republican primary seeking to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff, added.

Rep. Carter Letter 10.9.25 by melissanewsham

Carter cited a recent report by the Capital Research Center (CRC), which found that Soros, through the Open Society Foundations, funneled more than $80 million to organizations that “engage in or endorse” actions fitting the FBI’s definition of domestic terrorism.

For instance, Open Society Foundations gave $400,000 to the Center for Third World Organizing (CTWO), which boasts it “threw down with people in the streets” during the George Floyd riots in 2020.

Former Democratic California Rep. Katie Porter is having a rough go of it, and she likely didn’t expect it. Her polling isn’t bad—she’s the frontrunner in the upcoming gubernatorial race—but her media meltdowns could have her riding a mudslide out of the race. It’s a disaster.

Not only is she insanely unlikable in these interviews, but she’s also downright nasty. It’s also nothing new. It’s a classic sign of a control freak or someone who was never pushed back on, because CBS Los Angeles gets you rattled as a Democrat. I don’t know what to tell you. In that interview, Porter was aghast that she would be asked if she needed Trump voters to win over in the primary. Porter wanted to end the interview.

Now we have this new clip from a Politico interview, where she’s caught berating a staffer for being in her shot:

A newly surfaced video shows Katie Porter — the frontrunner in next year’s race for California governor — blasting a staffer who interrupted a meeting the former House member was taping for the Biden administration.

“Get out of my fucking shot!” Porter said after the employee came into view.

Video of the exchange, exclusively obtained by POLITICO Wednesday, shows an online conversation between Porter and then-Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in July 2021. Several minutes in, Porter’s staffer interjected to correct something the Democratic representative had said about electric vehicles. Porter then reprimanded her employee, who had also previously appeared periodically in the background during the recording.

“You also were in my shot before that. Stay out of my shot,” Porter said.

The staffer, whom POLITICO is not identifying out of privacy concerns and who was not the source of the video, declined to comment.

One week ago, an asteroid flew so close to Earth that it nearly broke the record for the closest asteroid approach ever.

This space surprise came to astronomers’ attention on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, when the Catalina Sky Survey in Arizona spotted an asteroid named 2025 TF a few hours after it had passed Earth. Flying over Antarctica, the asteroid came a mere 428 kilometers (266 miles) from Earth’s surface. For reference, the International Space Station orbits our planet at a similar altitude, approximately 370 km to 460 km (254 miles).

Asteroid 2025 TF may have only amounted to a near miss, but keeping tabs on near-Earth objects like this — even if most miss Earth — is a never-ending responsibility for astronomers.

The Commerce Department’s imminent Section 232 investigation — launched in April and expected to conclude soon — may fundamentally shift how the United States acquires semiconductors. The chips America imports range from commodity devices embedded in household appliances to the expensive, high-performance AI processors that power the AI boom, designed in America by Nvidia, but manufactured in Asia.

Taiwan and Korea sit at the center of this challenge. Together, they produce the majority of semiconductors used by the United States across nearly every category. This concentration represents a major national security risk, given China’s preparations and repeated threats to use force against Taiwan and antagonism toward South Korea.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick phrased the situation thus in a recent interview: “If you can’t make your own chips, how can you defend yourself?”

Tariffs are one tool to address this exposure, designed to boost demand for chips manufactured in the United States. But they are not enough. Lutnick offers a second measure, called “chip for chip.” It would tie tariff waivers directly to verifiable domestic production milestones, incentivizing U.S. firms to act more in the national interest.

However, Lutnick’s ‘chip-for-chip’ framework could succeed only if Washington pairs it with enforceable production benchmarks and demand-side incentives. Otherwise, it risks becoming another half-measure in America’s decades-long struggle to rebuild semiconductor sovereignty.

President Donald Trump’s administration is considering options to pay members of the military if the government shutdown drags on, according to two White House officials granted anonymity to discuss private deliberations.

Those options include Trump shifting available funds or pressing Republican leaders on Capitol Hill to put a standalone troop pay bill on the floor, according to one of the officials. The White House is not seeking a vote on troop pay at the moment and is reviewing internal options to address the pay issue, the other official said.

Active-duty military members are set to miss their paychecks Oct. 15 if Congress does not act.

“The president has been clear that he is going to pay the troops,” one of the officials said.

Asked Wednesday if he would encourage Congress to pass a standalone bill to pay troops amid the shutdown, he replied: “Probably.” He added, “Our military will always be taken care of.”

But Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune have so far refused to consider a separate bill, arguing Democrats need to stop blocking the stopgap funding measure passed by the House last month.

A wall of unanimous opposition began to crumble this week when three Democrats in the U.S. Senate broke with their party to support a Republican-backed plan to reopen the federal government.

The shutdown, now in its seventh day, is approaching the first missed paychecks for the federal workforce, increasing pressure on both parties to reach a solution before tens or hundreds of thousands of furloughed employees can no longer pay their bills. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), as recently as Monday, urged his colleagues to “fight” for Obamacare subsidies that Republicans are seeking to debate in a standalone package.

Gridlock has prevented Republican Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) from securing the 60 votes needed to pass a short-term government funding bill, but signs of concession emerged on Tuesday with news that Senators John Fetterman (D-PA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Angus King (I-ME) signed on to Republicans’ plan for a clean spending plan, Politico reported.

Multiple rounds of voting have resulted in a 55-45 finish, putting Thune still five votes shy of his goal.

Fetterman has been supportive of the GOP plan since a first vote was held on Sept. 19.

A RARE blue parrot declared extinct in the wild has hatched for the first time at a conservation centre, sparking new hope for the species.

The Spix’s macaw chick was born at the Centre for the Conservation of Endangered Bird Species in Pairi Daiza, a zoo in Cambron-Casteau, Belgium, on September 21.

It is the first chick of its species to hatch at the park after 100 previous eggs failed to be fertilised, marking a major breakthrough in an international breeding programme to save the world’s rarest parrot.

The zoo said: “Egg 101 is a true miracle of life, the result of years of effort and patience,” and described it as “a birth more precious than gold.”

Specialists decided to remove the egg from its inexperienced parents before it hatched to increase the chick’s chances of survival.

Its caretaker Thomas Biagi said having to feed the chick every two hours was exhausting but motivating because “we’re literally holding the future of one of the world’s most endangered species in our hands.”

The study Burnett uses to justify her claims that right-wing extremism is worse cites rising left-wing extremist violence and includes Islamic terror as “right-wing.”

On Wednesday, the Trump administration held a roundtable with journalists who have been documenting and reporting Antifa activity specifically in the United States for at least a decade. President Trump and key leaders within his administration attended this meeting to hear first-hand accounts of the violence and mayhem caused by members of this group, but for CNN’s Erin Burnett, Antifa barely exists and “right-wing extremists” are worse.

Burnett played a clip of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem discussing Antifa networks, saying that it’s “just as sophisticated as MS-13, as TDA, as ISIS, as Hezbollah, as Hamas, as all of them.” Burnett was incredulous, indicating that Hamas was more legitimate since they’ve been engaged in a two-year war against Israel. Hamas’ efforts have been supported on American and international streets by Antifa, but Burnett didn’t mention that.

“And ISIS? These are incredible things to say,” Burnett said with a smirk. “And obviously I’m not going to sit here and defend anybody who considered themselves part of an Antifa movement, such that it is, but ‘such that it is’ is the operative part of that sentence. Antifa is far from a major sophisticated terror organization like Hezbollah, Hamas, or ISIS. In fact,” she went on, “it’s not even like far-right groups like The Proud Boys or Oathkeepers, which have national leaders like Antifa.”

“There is no organized hierarchy to the group,” Burnett went on. “And according to the Center for Strategic and International Studies, compared to right-wing extremists, Antifa-linked violence is rare and limited.” A study from the Center for Strategic and International Studies in September reads “2025 marks the first time in more than 30 years that left-wing terrorist attacks outnumber those from the violent far right.”

Democrats’ position on the government shutdown contains no small amount of hypocrisy. Even the corporate media have pointed out that people like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., were decrying the problems associated with government shutdowns as recently as March.

But the problem with Democrats’ demands, such as they are, goes well beyond hypocrisy. Democrats are insisting on getting their demands met — namely, an expansion of Obamacare, via extension of enhanced subsidies — in exchange for reopening the government. In making that appeal, they’re citing Republicans’ unsuccessful efforts to defund Obamacare, chief of which was the government shutdown in 2013. Viewed from this perspective, Democrats’ position looks even more asinine — they are demanding that they succeed where Republicans (largely) failed.

TRUMP: ANTIFA BEHIND ‘EPIDEMIC OF LEFT-WING VIOLENCE’: At a White House-sponsored roundtable that featured conservative journalists who have been in violent confrontations with anti-ICE protesters, President Donald Trump claimed that an “epidemic of violence” and “terror” is being fueled and funded by antifa, a left-wing movement with no formal leadership or structure.

“It should be clear to all Americans that we have a very serious left-wing terror threat in our country, radicals associated with the domestic terror group antifa … and other far left extremists have been carrying out a campaign of violence against ICE agents and other officials charged with enforcing federal law,” Trump said, vowing to use all law enforcement resources to hunt them down and bring them to justice. “These are agitators, anarchists, and they’re paid,” Trump said. “You should see what we have on these people. These are bad people. These are people that want to destroy our country. We’re not going to let it happen.”

“When you see the signs and they’re all made out of a beautiful, beautiful paper, beautiful, nice, stiff, very expensive paper with beautiful wood handles all the same, all the same color, they come from very expensive printing machines, these are not people that write out their signs in a basement that believe in something. These are paid anarchists,” Trump said. “So we’re going to be looking very strongly at the people that are funding these operations.”

When politics meets spirituality, sparks fly! Vivek Ramaswamy just turned a pointed question about his Hindu faith into a fiery mic-drop moment at a Charlie Kirk event. Asked why a Hindu would dive into conservative politics, Ramaswamy shot back: “I’m not running to be a pastor, I’m running to lead this country.”Sharing a viral video on X, Ramaswamy said, “Started as a very awkward moment when a young man questioned my faith. Ended with a beautiful moment of education & a celebration of our Constitution. Only in America.”

A participant named Liam Birmingham asked Ramaswamy why a “polytheistic ideology” like Hinduism would share “Christian values.” Ramaswamy responded by clarifying that he is a monotheist from the Vendanta tradition of Advaita philosophy. “With due respect, I’ll just cut in right there because it’s one thing I have a little bit of authority on. I believe in this one true God from the Vedanta tradition of Advaita philosophy,” he told Birmingham.

And he continued, “I believe there’s one true God. He resides in all of us and he appears in different forms, but it’s one true God. So I’m an ethical monotheist. That’s the way I would describe my faith. Now I will tell you, I’m not running to be pastor of Ohio. I’m running to be governor of Ohio. And I didn’t run to be pastor of America. I ran to be president of the United States of America.”Drawing parallels with Christianity, Ramaswamy highlighted the conceptual similarity between the Hindu understanding of divine manifestations and the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity. “Doesn’t make you a polytheist, does it?” he questioned, adding that both faiths reconcile “the one and the many.”

  • Proponents argue that the audit reflects a broader accountability effort to align curricula with state priorities, while critics, including academic freedom advocates, warn it undermines faculty autonomy and academic integrity.
  • The audit comes shortly after the Texas Tech System Chancellor announced a mandate that in-class instruction must note there are only two sexes.

A recently announced audit of the University of Texas System’s gender studies course has academic freedom advocates sounding the alarm and conservatives defending a broader agenda for accountability and reform under a recently passed anti-DEI law.

“It has been a priority for lawmakers in Texas to return our universities to their role as institutions of free speech, merit-based achievement and open inquiry and end the culture of ideological indoctrination that has proliferated on many campuses, dividing students by race and gender and stifling debate and free expression,” Texas Public Policy Foundation spokesperson Sherry Sylvester told The College Fix in an interview.

Senate Bill 37, signed into law last year, gave the Board of Regents oversight powers to review and approve the curricula and degree programs within the system, which enrolls some 260,000 students at academic and health institutions across the state.

Skoltech scientists have devised a mathematical model of memory. By analyzing its new model, the team came to surprising conclusions that could prove useful for robot design, artificial intelligence, and for better understanding of human memory. Published in Scientific Reports, the study suggests there may be an optimal number of senses — if so, those of us with five senses could use a couple more!

“Our conclusion is of course highly speculative in application to human senses, although you never know: It could be that humans of the future would evolve a sense of radiation or magnetic field. But in any case, our findings may be of practical importance for robotics and the theory of artificial intelligence,” said study co-author Professor Nikolay Brilliantov of Skoltech AI. “It appears that when each concept retained in memory is characterized in terms of seven features — as opposed to, say, five or eight — the number of distinct objects held in memory is maximized.”

In line with a well-established approach, which originated in the early 20th century, the team models the fundamental building blocks of memory: the memory “engrams.” An engram can be viewed as a sparse ensemble of neurons across multiple regions in the brain that fire together. The conceptual content of an engram is an ideal abstract object characterized with regard to multiple features. In the context of human memory, the features correspond to sensory inputs, so that the notion of a banana would match up with a visual image, a smell, the taste of a banana, and so on. This results in a five-dimensional object that exists and evolves in a five-dimensional space populated by all the other concepts retained in memory.

Following a White House roundtable discussion on Antifa-linked and other far-left violence on Wednesday, President Donald Trump indicated that he is preparing to designate the black bloc militant group as a foreign terrorist organization.

The move comes on the heels of the president’s decision to label the black bloc organization as a foreign terrorist group last month. Designating the group as a foreign terrorist organization would give prosecutors expanded powers to prosecute members, as well as individuals found to be involved with financing and supporting the group.

On Wednesday, a number of leading reporters on Antifa violence, in addition to other experts, participated in a roundtable discussion headed up by President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi. In attendance was Nick Sortor, a conservative journalist who was recently subjected to a controversial arrest by the Portland Police Bureau, and Andy Ngo, who is widely considered to be the leading voice on covering Antifa extremism in Portland and beyond.

A recent court decision has effectively legalized open carry in Florida—and at least some Publix store managers say the company will allow it inside its stores. But not every grocery chain is following suit, and this has reignited a familiar debate: the tension between gun rights and private property rights.

Back on September 10, the First District Court of Appeal struck down Florida’s long-standing ban on open carry as unconstitutional. The very next day, Attorney General James Uthmeier affirmed that open carry is now legal throughout the state.

Since then, sheriff’s departments across Florida have announced they will no longer enforce the old law. But there are caveats—certain locations like schools, government buildings, and meetings remain off-limits for firearms, whether carried openly or concealed.

According to The Ledger and other local media outlets, several Publix store managers confirmed that open carry is now being allowed, in accordance with the new legal landscape.

“That’s a state law now so there’s nothing Publix can do to restrict open carry. So Publix is allowing it,” a manager at a Jacksonville Publix told reporters.
