Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) is begging her supporters to keep sending money as she faces a federal investigation into her citizenship and finances, portraying the probe as an effort by President Donald Trump to intimidate her before the midterms.

In a video message, Omar thanked donors and warned of an expensive “fight” following the search of her Washington, D.C., home more than a week earlier.

Omar said donations would help her “fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many other people right before the midterm elections.”

Her appeal continued a political retaliation argument she has repeatedly advanced.

However, the investigation began under former President Joe Biden’s administration.

DIMONA, Israel: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday (Oct 21) that the only way to remove the threat posed by Iran was to topple its government.

“Iran wanted to destroy us; we stopped them. They wanted to produce nuclear bombs; we stopped them … Yet they persist,” he said during an election rally in the southern town of Dimona. “Therefore, there is only one way to end this: by toppling this regime.”

“This is the directive I have issued to the Israel Defence Forces, to the Mossad, and to all our security branches,” he added, without specifying when or how that directive would be executed.

The sabre-rattling came as the premier headed into the last week of a tight race for re-election.

Netanyahu had instructed the Israeli military to plan for resumed strikes against Iran earlier this month, according to sources cited by the Financial Times on Wednesday, but US President Donald Trump reportedly objected to the idea.

Once upon a time, calling to pack the Supreme Court with more justices for partisan gain was viewed as such a radical idea that few politicians would even consider it. Today, it has become mainstream in the Democrat Party.

Throughout the past year, Democrats far and wide have resuscitated plans to increase the number of justices on the high court as a means of garnering decisions favorable to their party. From potential 2028 presidential contenders to congressional leadership, these officials have made clear their intention to pack the court should they reclaim Congress and the White House in the next few elections.

With Americans currently heading to the polls for this year’s midterms, The Federalist has assembled a guide assessing where every major Democrat Senate candidate stands on the issue. While some candidates have already openly entertained court-packing, others have chosen to hide their position from voters.

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — A foreign citizen was beaten to death by a group of around 50 people during a protest march in South Africa’s east coast city of Durban, police said Thursday, as anti-immigrant tensions continue to flare in Africa’s most advanced economy.

Police said the group approached the man, who was standing at the side of a road during a march through the streets of Durban’s city center, and assaulted him.

Police did not immediately give the man’s nationality or details on what the march was related to. They said the victim was in his 30s or early 40s, and they were still trying to identify suspects in the attack.

South Africa has struggled with months of anti-immigration tensions. Marches calling for government action against migrants in the country illegally have sometimes spilled over into violence.

Canada unveils $6.2bn plan to shield manufacturers as Trump trade tariffs bite– www.euronews.com

EXCERPT:

Canada has announced a $6.2 billion (€5.7 billion) package to protect its steel and auto industries from US tariffs, as Prime Minister Mark Carney warned that Washington has permanently altered a trade relationship built over decades.

Carney and Ontario Premier Doug Ford jointly unveiled the plan on Wednesday, directing $3.7 billion (€3.4 billion) to steelmakers and $1.8 billion (€1.65 billion) to automakers over five years, with $1.1 billion (€1 billion) of the auto funding coming from the federal government in Ottawa.

The announcement came the same day US-owned Cleveland-Cliffs confirmed layoffs at its Hamilton, Ontario, plant, underlining the human cost of the trade dispute.

“US tariffs have upended a trade bargain that’s existed for decades,” Carney said. “They’ve raised costs for American families while putting Ontario workers and businesses at a disadvantage.”

The damage to the auto sector is already visible in the trade figures, as Canadian auto exports to the US have fallen more than 10 percent, while US exports to Canada have dropped more than 20 percent, a decline Carney said hurts both sides of the border.

A conservative editorial board threw cold water on one of President Donald Trump’s latest diplomatic wins, warning his team was getting played.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board wrote Wednesday that there is “no cause to be grateful” to Russian President Vladimir Putin for freeing Stephen Hubbard, a retired American teacher jailed in Russia since 2022. Trump said Wednesday that Putin let Hubbard go after a personal plea from the president and asked for nothing in return.

The board welcomed Hubbard home but argued the Russian leader “takes Western hostages as part of his statecraft.” The editorial laid out a pattern. Putin seizes someone, slaps them with bogus charges, secures a conviction in a rigged court and then frees or swaps them whenever it suits him.

The board pointed to The Journal’s own reporter, Evan Gershkovich, whom Putin used as a bargaining chip to win back an assassin held in Germany. It also noted that Russian security services detained a Japanese reporter just last week, possibly to pressure Tokyo.

Putin didn’t need anything new for Hubbard because he has “already been piling up concessions” from Trump while escalating his war on Ukraine, Europe and NATO, the editorial argued. Among them, the board listed loosened U.S. sanctions on diesel sales, waived sanctions in a bill from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and what its sources described as intermittent limits on Ukraine’s access to Starlink.

For sexual offenses, 53 percent of known suspects were non-German, with Syrians, Poles and Afghans again ranking highest.

Pope Leo XIV got good news from his doctors: The pontiff will need no further treatment for lung cancer after follow-up tests confirmed the disease was localized, the Vatican said in a statement Wednesday.

Leo, 71, had the lower lobe of his right lung removed last week in the first major health event of his 17-month pontificate. The surgery confirmed he had adenocarcinoma, the most common type of lung cancer. Leo was discharged from Rome’s Gemelli Polyclinic on Saturday, four days after surgery, and said he would gradually resume his activities.

The pope’s personal physician, Dr. Luigi Carbone, and his surgeon, Dr. Stefano Margaritora, said in a statement that results of the final post-operative tests on tissue removed during the pope’s surgery confirmed the diagnosis and that the cancer had not spread.

“A subsequent oncology assessment confirmed that no further treatment is necessary,” the doctors said.

PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron said Wednesday that foreign leaders — including those “on the other side of the Atlantic” — are trying to exploit France’s tense social climate for their own political agenda.

Protests over soaring living costs have led to widespread rioting and looting in France.

U.S. President Donald Trump has used the violence to rally his political supporters, making unsubstantiated claims that Muslim migrants are responsible for the unrest, and urging Macron to “close your borders and take control before it is too late!”

Macron responded by saying there “has been foreign manipulation of information in the aftermath” of the looting in Paris and other French cities last weekend.

“And that has led to comments that are as unacceptable as they are stupid, from many people, including foreign leaders,” he said.

Asked by a reporter if he was referring to Trump, Macron replied: “Among others.”

Aerial footage showed crowds filling major streets as protesters made their way from the University of Athens towards the Greek Parliament. Organisers presented the march as part of a broader European movement calling for better-funded education, affordable housing and relief from rising living costs.

Police officers, including riot police carrying shields, accompanied the march and blocked nearby roads. Some shops and cafés closed their shutters as a precaution.

The demonstration was part of a nationwide protest movement, with rallies also held in Thessaloniki, Patras, Larissa and Crete. Police estimated that around 10,000 people took part in Athens and its suburbs, although organisers claimed a higher turnout.

Europe’s doormat, France, is still set to host a major American sporting event this Sunday amidst a wave of violence that has swept the country, while its inept government has done the best it could do to quell the riots, given that its mainstay law enforcement tools are Prius police cars and stand-down orders.

The country best known for its cuisine, its arrogance, and its readiness to surrender at the drop of a hat is scheduled to host a regular-season NFL game in Paris between the New Orleans Saints and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The game is still on for Sunday, October 25, in spite of the fact that the U.S. Embassy in France is warning Americans to avoid areas of unrest in the country.

The million-dollar question is, how do you avoid “unrest” if it decides to come to you? No doubt the orchestrators of the violence will know that disrupting an NFL football game in Paris will get the attention of America. With that in mind, you almost have to assume that the game already has the attention of the “mostly peaceful” violence planners.

While this hasn’t deterred a large contingent of the Steeler faithful who are already boarding flights to Paris, it has scared off two hometown TV stations that were all set to send crews to France to cover the game. NBC affiliate WDSU-TV in New Orleans and ABC affiliate WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh both decided to cancel their travel plans. The two stations are owned by Hearst.

China pushed back and signalled possible countermeasures after the United States banned the use of products from Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek in federal civilian agencies’ IT systems.

AP and Bloomberg reported on Oct. 21 that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security notified federal civilian agencies to remove DeepSeek products and third-party products and services developed using DeepSeek technology from their IT systems. The move follows an order issued in late July and also bans new procurement of the related products and services.

A notice published in the U.S. Federal Register said DeepSeek models “present multiple threat pathways”. It cited concerns that because DeepSeek servers are in China, Chinese authorities could gain access to private-sector infrastructure and sensitive U.S. data. DeepSeek’s open-source models are widely used in many countries including the United States, and are mostly provided for free.

Asked about the matter, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning (마오닝) said China would “resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests” of Chinese companies. She added that China consistently opposes the excessive expansion of the concept of national security.

China’s commerce ministry also expressed “strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition” to the U.S. move. It said the United States ignored an agreement between Chinese President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump and overlooked the overall state of China-U.S. economic and trade relations. It added that the United States was trying to contain China by imposing discriminatory restrictions under the pretext of national security, and said China would take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests.

The Chinese have sent ships to shadow U.S. ships on patrol in the Taiwan Strait. Things are continuing to heat up in the Taiwan Strait as naval confrontations become more frequent and aggressive, though the first shot has not yet been fired.

China dispatched naval forces to shadow an American warship near a disputed South China Sea shoal Tuesday as Taiwan confronted a Chinese Coast Guard vessel accused of entering restricted waters with its tracking system disabled, according to the Chinese military and Taiwan Coast Guard. The incidents underscore the growing risk of military confrontations in the region, where Chinese forces are increasingly challenging American and allied vessels.

The USS Charleston, an Independence-class littoral combat ship, entered waters near Sabina Shoal in the disputed Spratly Islands early Tuesday, prompting Chinese naval forces to track and monitor the vessel, according to the PLA Southern Theater Command Navy.

“Taiwan has been getting its act together on defense at last, fielding capabilities designed to deny an invasion fleet (or a blockade fleet) access to the island across the Taiwan Strait,” James R. Holmes, the J. C. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “No access, no Chinese victory, and Taiwan stands. Beijing has been so domineering that it has united the countries along the first island chain against it, including ourselves since we are a resident power in the Western Pacific.”

With little opportunity outside of working sugarcane fields, hundreds of thousands of women in India choose to have their wombs removed to stop having periods. They do this to ensure they don’t miss workdays.

India is the second-largest producer of sugarcane globally, but the demand comes at a brutal cost for some women.

One woman described feeling like “the system has claimed my very womb just so I can keep working.”

An estimated 1.5 million people cut sugarcane across the country, often working 14-hour days for as little as ₹400 (£3). Working in pairs, usually husband and wife, they labour from early morning until night, stopping only to load the harvested cane onto trucks. With few employment opportunities at home, many turn to the arduous work to feed their families. Some travel more than 500km from their villages, spending months in makeshift camps without toilets or clean water.

For female cutters, managing their periods in those conditions adds another painful challenge. Missing a single shift can mean losing wages and facing a fine, leaving some feeling obliged to undergo hysterectomies – surgery to remove their wombs – so they can keep working.

Poornima, a worker considering the operation in the hope of easing her suffering, said: “My suffering isn’t reducing. If I continue this work, it’ll only grow. If I can stop lifting such heavy weights, maybe it’ll be better. But we don’t have an option other than to do this job.”

SSNs are referred to be agencies in the federal government and in states to verify identities and prevent improper payments in Social Security fraud. During the clean-up, the SSA added records of 17 million deaths that were previously lacking in the system.

As President Donald Trump rallied the Republican troops Tuesday in the Tar Heel State two weeks ahead of next month’s midterms, the GOP was coming fresh off a big election integrity victory.

The RNC and the North Carolina Republican Party stopped a last-minute attempt by left-wingers to water down safeguards for absentee ballots.

U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Schroeder denied a motion for preliminary injunction filed by the North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans, part of a national network of big labor-sponsored activists that advocate for leftist causes, and other leftist groups. Schroeder ruled that the groups sought to block the election integrity directives too late in the game.

As the judge noted, the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly admonished lower courts they “should ordinarily not alter the election rules on the eve of an election.” That particularly holds for injunctions seeking to change the rules of engagement in the eleventh hour. In this case, the “election is not merely upcoming; it has already started,’” the judge wrote in quoting a past SCOTUS decision.

“Plaintiffs have also delayed. They waited eighteen days afterthe 2026 Numbered Memo was issued to bring this action, and they did not file their motion for preliminary injunction until the day before the counting of absentee ballots would begin,” Schroeder wrote.
