On August 24, controversial Democrat Senate candidate Abdul el-Sayed boldly accepted an invitation to the Fox News show Jesse Watters Primetime. It oozed confidence, but whether it was smart or strategic to play the Artful Dodger is a very different question.

In his newsletter, CNN media analyst Brian Stelter gushed over el-Sayed generating “lots of buzz and clippable content” and how he “showed a keen understanding of Fox’s outrage machine.” This is always amusing, as if Stelter doesn’t think CNN can be characterized as operating an “outrage machine” against Trump.

Then Stelter mischaracterized the central mishap of the interview. El-Sayed was credited for “refusing to take the bait when Watters asked whether it’s okay ‘for a parent to slash his kid’s ding-a-ling off’ or whether trans athletes should compete in women’s sports. Each time, he redirected toward gas and grocery prices, the war in Iran, and health care.”

That’s not what happened. When Watters pressed him on genital amputations for children, he insisted this decision is between a doctor and a patient, and the government should not get involved – which is a bizarre position when you’re pushing for a “Medicare for All” scheme where the government controls the health care system.

Thousands of Lindsay Clancy supporters believe the 36-year-old killer is herself a victim.

Hundreds turned out for a rally Thursday at Plymouth Superior Courthouse — most of them women and many in pink shirts — carrying signs with fangirl slogans such as “Believe,” “She Needed Help” and “Peace For Lindsay,” the Associated Press reported.

They have leaned into claims that the “overburdened” mother was suffering from postpartum psychosis when she committed the heinous crimes. She also slit her wrists and neck and jumped out of a second-story window in a suicide attempt that left her paralyzed from the waist down, according to court documents.

“… [Clancy] not receiving the help she needed while going through PPP just reflects how hard it is as a woman to receive proper healthcare. her having suicidal thoughts wasn’t enough to get the help she needed. she KNEW she was in a crazy state of mind but got no support whatsoever,” wrote a commenter on Reddit earlier this month as Clancy’s trial became the talk of the nation.

Meanwhile, a Wisconsin “influencer” has set up a GoFundMe account for Mike and Paula Musgrove, Clancy’s parents, who, according to the page’s creator, “have spent years traveling back and forth, staying in hotels, attending court proceedings and ultimately relocating from Connecticut to Massachusetts so they could remain close to Lindsay.” The page includes an illustration of Clancy (apparently) in a wheelchair, her head buried in her hands, elbows resting on her knees. She is encircled by a host of women holding hands.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is demanding that the state bar dismiss a “meritless” complaint filed by left-wing activists against a Trump administration attorney for criticizing rogue judges.

In his Monday letter to Florida Bar Executive Director Joshua Doyle, Uthmeier slammed the Aug. 18 filing by the Democracy Defenders Fund (DDF) and Lawyers Defending American Democracy against Department of Homeland Security General Counsel James Percival as a “shameless publicity stunt.” The complaint was signed by 128 former federal and state judges, “only three” of whom “previously served on the bench in Florida,” according to the Florida AG.

As The Federalist previously reported, the left-wing groups and judges took aim at a July 23 X thread by Percival. Titled, “Worst of the Worst, District Judge Edition,” the DHS general counsel described rogue judges’ overreaching actions in several immigration-related cases involving the administration and how they conflicted with its policy agenda.

For this and his media appearances criticizing those activist judges, the left-wing groups and former judges demanded that the Florida Bar investigate Percival. They laughably claimed that his commentary constituted “serious professional misconduct” and accused him of “threaten[ing] the rule of law and increas[ing] the risk of violence against judges.”

In a discussion with PragerU Executive Director Allen Estrin, Prager broke down a new CBS News/YouGov poll showing that 58% of Democrats view socialism favorably, while only 32% favor capitalism. This is a subject about which Prager, whose field of study in graduate school was communism, is qualified to speak. But who cares about that credential when “socialism, much less democratic socialism, is not communism,” as CNN Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins has said, right?

Prager wasted little time dispelling that argument with a brief history lesson:

LONDON — An inquest opened Wednesday into the sudden death earlier this month of Jason Arday, a Cambridge University professor who faced a storm of plagiarism accusations.

Arday, 41, who became Cambridge’s youngest Black professor in 2023, was found dead at an address in south London on Aug. 13, days after he resigned his post as professor of sociology of education following intense media scrutiny of his credentials and many of the other claims he had made about his accomplishments outside of academia.

The inquest opened with a short hearing at London Inner South Coroner’s Court. Any deaths in the U.K. that are deemed to exhibit uncertainties of one form or another are investigated by a coroner.

“The various reports have given me reason to suspect that Professor Arday died an unnatural death 12 days ago,” said senior coroner Dr. Julian Morris. “It therefore follows that I must open an investigation.”

Police said at the time of his death that it was being treated as “unexpected” but not suspicious.

Questions about Arday’s qualifications were raised publicly last month by Nathan Cofnas, a one-time Cambridge philosophy researcher who left the university after his critique of diversity, equity and inclusion programs sparked widespread protests. Cofnas previously argued that in a meritocracy, Black people “would disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sports and entertainment.” Cofnas was last week suspended from his post at Ghent University in Belgium.

The main drug that has been in use for decades to combat malaria in sub-Saharan Africa is running into a problem: In recent years, researchers have become increasingly concerned that parasites are becoming less sensitive to treatment. Identifying the underlying genetic factors has become an urgent priority.

In an attempt to identify the reason for drug-resistant malaria, a team led by Brown University researchers conducted whole-genome analysis of 157 malaria parasite samples selected from specimens collected in Uganda between 2016 and 2024. The work, published in Nature Medicine this week, shows evidence that mutations in a gene that encodes a protein called px1, which had previously received little attention, is likely responsible for the rise in drug resistance.

“Malaria still is a major killer, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa,” Jeffrey Bailey, an associate professor at Brown University specializing in pathology, says in a press release. “As drug resistance continues to emerge, we worry it will undermine control of its spread and result in even more deaths for a large number of people there and beyond.”

Harvard University laid off almost one-third of its social sciences staff affected by its latest restructuring this month, resulting in 75 direct layoffs.

About 15 of those employees were offered a different job or the choice to take the layoff instead. Three other people either got new roles or quit on their own before the official notices went out, The Harvard Crimson reported.

This is more than twice as many people as the number cut at Harvard College the month before.

“The cuts make the social sciences the hardest-hit part of the [Faculty of Arts and Sciences] restructuring disclosed so far,” The Crimson reported.

The layoffs most heavily impacted the coordinator, faculty assistant, and financial associate positions.

“Twenty-two out of 30 faculty assistant, faculty coordinator, or faculty support specialist roles were slashed, and five of 14 financial associate and senior financial associate positions,” according to The Crimson.

The staff restructuring aims to close a $365 million budget shortfall. Last week’s cuts were the fifth and largest wave of job changes since mid-July, after three smaller rounds in May and June.
