A school district in Southern California, Newport-Mesa Unified School District, has informed parents that even after concerns were sent to its office about its new policy, the matter was out of the parents’ hands; If you want to go on overnight trips, you have to be willing to room with transgendered students, a rule that concerns parents of daughters the most.
Sarah Coley, the district administrative director. Exclaimed in her reasoning, which she presumed to be the legal and gospel truth, “Parents and students do not get to pick, and saying I don’t want to stay with ‘Susie’ because ‘Susie isn’t a real girl,’ is no different than saying, ‘I don’t want to stay with Sara because Sara is [white/older/non-religious, etc.]’”
FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—Students in a Southern California school district could be forced to choose between rooming with a transgender-identifying student or missing out on an overnight school field trip.
If parents complain about their child rooming with a transgender-identifying student of the opposite biological sex, staff in the Newport-Mesa Unified School District listen to the parents’ concerns, then say that the child’s rooming assignment isn’t the parents’ choice, according to emails from 2021 and 2022 obtained by the Center for American Liberty and shared with The Daily Signal.
The only option for students who are uncomfortable staying in a room with transgender students is to opt out of the trip, Sarah Coley, the school district’s administrative director, said in an email to school district employees regarding a sixth-grade science trip.
“You would say to the students/parents, ‘If you have questions about the assignment, please feel free to discuss with me,’” Coley wrote in the email. “Then, if a parent says ‘hey, I don’t want my student with [who],’ you could provide an ear to listen and consider whether the student is a good fit, but the eventual response would be, ‘If you / your student is not comfortable with the rooming assignments and process of staying with other students in a room, then they can elect not to participate in this optional trip.’”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen told an audience in Belem, Brazil that the world needs a $78 Trillion global operation to try to fight man-made climate change. The goal of this endeavor is to achieve worldwide carbon net-zero, a goal that is sure not to have any negative unintended, and certainly not INTENDED consequences. They hope to achieve this fundamental transformation of the planet and humanity by 2050.
She claimed, “Neglecting to address climate change and the loss of nature and biodiversity is not just bad environmental policy. It is bad economic policy. At home, we are implementing the Inflation Reduction Act, the most significant climate legislation in our nation’s history. It is driving hundreds of billions of dollars of investments in the clean energy technologies and industries that will propel us toward our climate goals and fuel our economic growth.”
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said during a speech in Belem, Brazil, on Saturday that the price tag for a global transition to a low-carbon economy amounts to $78 trillion in financing through 2050.
Yellen said that in order to achieve the goal of net-zero global carbon emissions, there would need to be $3 trillion globally in annual financing for the cause, which she said is a top priority for the Biden administration, according to the speech. “The transition will require no less than $3 trillion in new capital from many sources each year between now and 2050,” Yellen said during the speech. “This can be leveraged to support pathways to sustainable and inclusive growth, including for countries that have historically received less investment.”
Mississippi’s 2024 election could theoretically experience a minimum of a 5-day delay in being determined if a ruling by U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. is upheld. That ruling holds that a Mississippi law allowing ballots to be received up to 5 days after the election to be counted is perfectly constitutional.
The judge exclaimed “So if one federal statute implicitly allows post-election receipt of overseas ballots mailed by election day, that statute is presumed not to offend against the election-day statutes, from which one may infer that the similar Mississippi statute on post-election receipt is likewise inoffensive.”
A federal judge ruled on July 28 that a Mississippi law allowing ballots received up to five days after an election to be counted is lawful.
U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola Jr. referenced the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA), which regulates ballots from citizens living abroad.
A Rasmussen poll reveals nine percent of 2020 polled voters identified as being non-citizens. This group was culled from a call-list for “likely voters.” 2,466 people answered the poll, all of which became eligible when they were asked if they intended to vote in 2024.

The recent Rasmussen poll of 2,466 people who said they would likely vote in 2024 and who admitted voting in 2020 showed a shocking statistic.
Rasmussen asked these voters is they are citizens and 131 out of 2,466 said “no.” And 91 said they were not sure if they were citizens. Hint: if you “aren’t sure,” you’re NOT a citizen.

Turkey and Israel traded sharp barbs on Sunday, with President Tayyip Erdogan seeming to threaten military action against Israel as tensions heated up between the Jewish state and Hezbollah.
Israel in turn warned that Erdogan’s fate could become akin to that of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, who was executed by hanging.
“Erdogan is following in the footsteps of Saddam Hussein by threatening to attack Israel. He should remember what happened there and how it ended,” Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz wrote in a post on X, in which he linked a photograph of Erdogan and Hussein.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Monday compared Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler in a post on X. “Just as genocidal Hitler ended, so will genocidal Netanyahu,” the post stated.
“Just as the genocidal Nazis were held accountable, those who tried to destroy the Palestinians will also be held accountable,” it added. “Humanity will stand with the Palestinians.”
On Saturday, July 27, a rocket allegedly coming from the Iran-back Islamist terror cell Hezbollah struck a Druze village in the Golan Heights, killing 12 children. The attack has led to Netanyahu threatening war in Lebanon even as the operation in Gaza hits a major moment as Israel’s central Gaza campaign pushes on.
Israel has already responded with strikes deep inside Lebanon targeting Hezbollah strongholds. As Israel faces a rising threat to its northern border, it submitted an updated proposal for a Gaza ceasefire deal, coincidently on the same day as the attack that killed 12 children.
Israel vowed on Sunday to “hit the enemy hard” after rocket fire from Lebanon killed 12 young people in the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights and fanned fears that the war in Gaza will spread.
Iran warned Israel that any new military “adventures” in Lebanon could lead to “unforeseen consequences”.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned Saturday’s rocket fire and called on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint”.
Israel’s army called it “the deadliest attack on Israeli civilians” since the October 7 attack that began the current fighting in Gaza and triggered regular exchanges of fire across the Lebanese border.
Israel blamed Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement for firing a Falaq-1 Iranian rocket but the Iran-backed group — which has regularly targeted Israeli military positions — said it had “no connection” to the incident.
It said, however, that it had fired one such rocket on Saturday towards an Israeli military target in the Golan.
The rocket fire in Majdal Shams, whose population are Arabic-speaking Druze, prompted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to return early from the United States.
Israel delivered to the U.S. on Saturday its updated proposal for the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal, according to an Israeli senior official and two other sources with knowledge of the issue.
Why it matters: The negotiations over the Gaza hostage and ceasefire deal are at a critical juncture.
President Biden, who sees freeing the hostages and ending the war in Gaza as key to his legacy, told the families of U.S. hostages on Thursday that he will continue pushing for a deal in the time he has left in office.
Driving the news: The proposal was delivered ahead of a meeting on Sunday in Rome between Mossad director David Barnea, CIA director Bill Burns, the Prime Minister of Qatar Mohammed Bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani and the head of Egyptian intelligence Abbas Kamel to discuss the hostage deal.
ISRAEL’S foreign minister has warned of an “all-out war” with Hezbollah after blaming the militant group for a rocket attack in Golan Heights.
The missile hit a village in the Israel-occupied region on Saturday evening, killing 12 young people including children.
Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) quickly pointed fingers at Iran-backed Hezbollah, who operate out of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah, a staunch supporter of terror-group Hamas, has launched renewed attacks against Israel since war broke out in the Gaza Strip in October last year.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu summoned a crunch meeting of his security cabinet following the attack and vowed revenge on the group.
Local law enforcement alerted the U.S. Secret Service about a suspicious person before the shooting at former President Donald Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month, according to the chief of the Pennsylvania State Police.
During questioning at the House Homeland Security hearing on Tuesday, Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Col. Christopher Paris disclosed new details about the security lapse that led to the assassination attempt on former President Trump. The incident resulted in one death and two injuries.
Col. Christopher Paris stated that the Butler County Emergency Services Unit had a text thread discussing the suspected gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, and had reported him as a suspicious person before the incident.
“At some point when he utilized the range-finder, the suspicion was heightened,” Col. Paris said of Crooks. He said that State Police got a call and a text from the emergency services unit about the suspected gunman’s activity and told the Secret Service.
State Police officials had “verbally turned right around and gave it to the Secret Service” at a local command post for security, Col. Paris said, adding, “My understanding was that he was milling about and he stood out to them because he never made his way to a point of ingress to the venue.”
The police chief also testified that two local law enforcement officers stationed in the building complex left to search for the suspect before the shooting. He added that he didn’t know if the officers would have seen Crooks climbing onto the roof of a nearby building had they stayed by the window.
While Vice President Kamala Harris seemed to endorse the outcome of the Venezuelan election, which officials claim show Maduro winning with 51 percent of the vote to opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez’ 44 percent.
So far, official U.S. communication has cast doubt on the result, with other countries, including neighbors Argentina and Peru, outright denying the results altogether. As of this writing, Venezuela remains in flux as protests continue to increase in number and size, starting in Caracas, the capital, and spreading to many other parts of the country.
Nicolás Maduro’s claim of victory in Venezuela’s presidential election has brought the South American country to a hazardous standoff, with his thwarted opponents accusing him of rigging the election to remain in power, and many leaders in the region and beyond questioning the veracity and transparency of the vote.
Sunday’s results, which followed an election described by independent observers as the most arbitrary in recent years – even by the standards of the authoritarian regime founded by Maduro’s mentor and predecessor, Hugo Chávez – appeared to have dashed opposition hopes of ending a quarter of a century of chavista rule and economic turmoil.
After a six-hour delay in releasing the results prompted international concern, the government-controlled electoral authority claimed Maduro had won with 51.21% of votes compared with 44.2% for his rival, the former diplomat Edmundo González Urrutia.

The United States and multiple global leaders voiced skepticism about official results handing presidential election victory to the strongman leader.
Claims of election irregularities started to emerge on Sunday evening as the votes were being counted — including opposition witnesses being denied access to the CNE headquarters as the authority counted votes, and the CNE allegedly halting data being sent from local polling stations to their central location to prevent more votes from being processed…
Opposition leader María Corina Machado said in a news conference that their own records showed their candidate Edmundo González Urrutia had received 70% of the vote against Maduro’s 30%.
“We won, and everyone knows it,” Machado said, adding that the opposition would “defend the truth.”
“The entire international community knows what happened in Venezuela and how people voted for change,” she said.
Gonzalez, who was also at the news conference, alleged that rules had been violated during the election.
The National Electoral Council said at around midnight that Maduro received 51% of the vote, while the main opposition candidate, Edmundo González, had 44% support, according to The Associated Press.
Elvis Amoroso, head of the National Electoral Council, said the results were based on 80% of voting stations and represented an irreversible trend.
Despite Maduro being declared the winner of a third term, the opposition claimed victory, setting up a showdown with the government over the results.
While admitting that Venezuela still faces “challenges,” Harris vowed U.S. backing for “the people of Venezuela who expressed their voice in today’s historic presidential election.” Someone needs to tell the cackling Communist that the election expresses the will of the socialist government in Venezuela, not the people it tyrannizes — unless she is too dumb to realize she was being complimentary, which, of course, is always an option.
Harris did not mention Maduro by name in her statement but did pretend that the election results were true indicators of democratically exercised opinions from Venezuelans. Harris posted on July 28, “The United States stands with the people of Venezuela who expressed their voice in today’s historic presidential election. The will of the Venezuelan people must be respected. Despite the many challenges, we will continue to work toward a more democratic, prosperous, and secure future for the people of Venezuela.”
Venezuela’s National Electoral Council reported that Maduro had secured 51% of the votes, while his main challenger Emundo González received 44%. This means Maduro will remain in power for the next six years, having already held the position for the previous 11.
The announcement was first rejected by Maria Corina Machado, leader of the opposition, who had been prevented from participating in the elections and endorsed González, the candidate registered by a coalition of opposition parties led by her.
“We want to tell all Venezuelans and the rest of the world that Venezuela has a new president, and he is Edmundo González Urrutia,” Machado declared.
She stated that González’s landslide victory showed that the people had decided to end 25 years of government under the so-called Chavismo, which was established in 1999 by Hugo Chávez, the predecessor and political mentor of Nicolás Maduro.
“This has been so overwhelming, so significant, that we have won in all sectors, strata, and states of the country,” said Machado. “Venezuelans and the whole world know what happened,” added González.

Meanwhile, Russia, China, Iran, Cuba, Bolivia and Honduras — all allies of Maduro — congratulated him.
TOKYO — U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States has ‘serious concerns’ about the announced result of Venezuela’s hotly contested presidential election that authorities say was won by incumbent Nicolas Maduro.
Speaking in Tokyo on Monday shortly after the announcement was made, Blinken said the U.S. was concerned that the result reflected neither the will nor the votes of the Venezuelan people. He called for election officials to publish the full results transparently and immediately and said the U.S. and the international community would respond accordingly.
“We have seen the announcement just a short while ago by the Venezuelan Electoral Commission,” he said. “We have serious concerns that the result announced does not reflect the will or the votes of the Venezuelan people.”
“It’s critical that every vote be counted fairly and transparently that the electoral authorities immediately share information with the opposition and independent observers without delay and that the electoral authorities publish the tabulation of votes. The international community is watching this very closely and will respond accordingly,” Blinken said.

RFK Jr.’s Secret Service protection ends after suspended campaign
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who suspended his third-party presidential bid last week and endorsed former President Donald Trump, has lost his Secret Service protection following the decision to leave the race, his campaign said.
“Mr. Kennedy no longer has USSS,” Stefanie Spear, Kennedy’s press secretary, told CBS News.
In remarks in Phoenix on Friday, Kennedy said he was backing Trump because he could see no viable path to the White House. And although he said he wasn’t “terminating” his campaign — remaining on the ballot in some noncompetitive states — he pledged to remove his name from states where he could be a spoiler. Kennedy was on the ballot in more than 20 states when he suspended his White House bid.
President Biden directed the Secret Service to afford protection to Kennedy after the assassination attempt against Trump in July. Kennedy’s campaign had long requested the protection for the independent presidential candidate — an issue that was especially acute for Kennedy, whose father and uncle were assassinated in the 1960s.

The complete videos, acquired via a right-to-know request earlier this month, were posted Wednesday, Aug. 21 with editing only done to blur graphic scenes and remove foul language in the audio.
The 12 videos were released by the local police department on Aug. 8. Some of the videos were blurred prior to their release to the Eagle.
Washington Post was one of the first to use what became the leftist-approved label of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, calling it a “Trump rally shooting” to subliminally have Trump’s rallies associated with violence. The hope is to trick the willing-to-be-tricked that the political violence witnessed is the fault of the man who was shot, which is comparable to blaming a rape victim for being raped because “she was asking for it.”
Al Jazeera, a representative of an Islamist ideology that seeks to destroy the American republic, echoes the same type of careful language to assure no sympathy is garnered for the enemy they share with the Progmerican left, Donald J Trump.
Mother Jones took two shots at titling the news event, and both times show their allegiance with the shooter, and their blind hatred of the former President.

Trump rally gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks used encrypted messaging accounts on various platforms located in Belgium, New Zealand and Germany, according to a member of a congressional task force investigating his assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), one of 13 lawmakers tapped to serve on the House bipartisan task force, told reporters at a Wednesday press conference at the Trump Hotel Chicago that the “overseas accounts” piqued his suspicion immediately regarding the shooter’s motives.”
“Why does a 19-year-old kid who is a health care aid need encrypted platforms not even based in the United States, but based abroad – where most terrorist organizations know it is harder for our law enforcement to get into?” asked Waltz.
Attempted Trump assassin Thomas Crooks trained at same gun range used by DHS
Attempted Trump assassin Thomas Crooks practiced shooting at his preferred gun range the day before the Department of Homeland Security conducted a training there — just two months before he opened fire at the former president’s rally.
Crooks, 20, visited the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club in Pennsylvania on May 22 around 3:10 p.m., where he practiced alone at the rifle range, according to a club logbook obtained by Sen. Chuck Grassley’s (R-IA) office.
The very next day, beginning at noon, DHS conducted a “police training” at the range with at least three people, club records show.
Clairton’s rifle range where Crooks would have practiced is 200 yards long — more than enough space for him to practice the 150-yard shot he would take at Trump on July 13, wounding the former president and killing a bystander.
It is unclear whether DHS regularly held trainings there, or if the May 23 visit was an uncommon occurrence.

Matthew Crooks is interested in guns and has sold firearms to family members in the past, the source told the Mail. “The FBI still very much has questions about how much they knew and how [Thomas Crooks] slipped through the net,” the individual said.
Quinn Logue specializes in both criminal and civil law, including wrongful death and personal injury, according to its website.
Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. The 20-year-old, who shot Trump in the ear, also killed attendee Corey Comperatore and injured two others. Crooks was shot dead by a sniper at the scene.
The FBI is still investigating how Crooks was able to carry out the shooting from a rooftop near the rally stage. The FBI briefed Trump on their investigation earlier this month, revealing that they still don’t have a clear motive, ABC News reported. However, Crooks may have targetted Trump just because he was the next big-name politician to come to Pennsylvania.

Several members of the U.S. Secret Service Pittsburgh Field Office have reportedly been placed on administrative leave following the July 13 assassination attempt against former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Anthony Guglielmi, USSS chief of communications, told Fox News Digital in a statement that the agency’s personnel are held “to the highest professional standards, and any identified and substantiated violations of policy will be investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility for potential disciplinary action.”
USSS did not directly confirm any employees placed on leave, but Guglielmi added that given the “personal” nature of the matter, the agency is “not in a position to comment further.”

At least five Secret Service agents have been placed on modified duty after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in July, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press.
They include the special agent in charge of the Pittsburgh field office and three other agents assigned to that office, which was responsible for the security planning ahead of the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to the law enforcement official who had direct knowledge of the matter. One of the five agents was assigned to Trump’s protective detail, the official said.
The official was not authorized to publicly disclose details of the personnel investigation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
The agents are on administrative leave, meaning they cannot do investigative or protective work.

But as shocking as it is to see a former Secret Service director need the protection of her own former agency, it’s much less surprising when one considers the overall threat environment facing those whom Trump loyalists perceive as a danger to him — or them. After all, we learned earlier this week that the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who oversaw Trump’s New York hush money trial, and her business partner have each been subjected to death threats and harassment, and that law enforcement has advised the daughter and her family to leave their home for their own safety.
Further, in an interview with my NBC News colleague Ken Dilanian last month, Attorney General Merrick Garland noted that the Justice Department has brought 400 cases over the last two years alone dealing with threats against federal and state judges, federal and state prosecutors, federal and state legislators, and federal, state and local law enforcement officers. Of course, those are just the cases federal law enforcement has brought, not the totality of the threats.

A recent poll by HarrisX/Forbes gives President Trump a nine-point lead over Harris, 50% to 41%, higher than the lead that same poll gave him over Biden, 48% to 40%. When broken down by demographic group, the 45th President’s numbers look even more promising: HarrisX/Forbes gives President Trump a +15-point advantage over Harris among Independents, 48% to 33%, and a staggering +19-point lead, 58% to 39%, among voters between the ages of 18 and 34.

The two heavyweights of Palestinian politics signed the Beijing Declaration on “ending division and strengthening Palestinian unity,” according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV, pledging to form a unity government for the Palestinian territories. But previous such declarations have failed, including a similar deal in 2011, casting doubt over whether the China-sponsored negotiations might actually lead to a resolution.
The declaration comes at a sensitive time, as the war in Gaza rages on into its 10th month and as Israel and Hamas are weighing an internationally backed cease-fire proposal that would wind down the war and free dozens of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

Donald Trump appears to support TikTok and doesn’t plan on banning it if he gets into office. This change of heart comes as no surprise when you consider that one of the big investors of the app is also a mega-donor for Trump, the man really needs something to give younger voters, and the platform has become a haven for pro-Trump content in recent months.
In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Trump said he no longer plans on banning TikTok. His reasoning is that he doesn’t to reward his new favorite punching bag who he already threatened with prison time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
“Now [that] I’m thinking about it, I’m for TikTok, because you need competition,” Trump told Bloomberg Businessweek in an interview conducted back in June and published on Tuesday. “If you don’t have TikTok, you have Facebook and Instagram—and that’s, you know, that’s Zuckerberg.”
Governor Gavin Newsome (D-CA) signed a bill into law that alleges to “protect” gay, trans, and non-binary children from parental threat by prohibiting schools from compelling teachers to inform parents when their kids identify as one of those categories.
The law does not prevent teachers from choosing to inform parents if they choose, and the language is vague enough that the interpretation of its application is in doubt, specifically when it comes to not informing parents if their trans child was moving down the road of some form of chemical treatment or surgical alterations.

A school district in Southern California filed a lawsuit against Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) over a new law he signed that would forbid schools from notifying parents if their children start to “transition” their gender
As Fox News reports, the lawsuit was filed by Chino Valley Unified School District, which is being represented by the Liberty Justice Center (LJC). The lawsuit argues that the new law, which was signed on Monday, violates parents’ Constitutional rights.
“PK-12 minor students, most of whom are too young to drive, vote, or provide medical consent for themselves, are also too young to make life-altering decisions about their expressed gender identity without their parents’ knowledge,” said Emily Rae, senior counsel at LJC, in a statement. “But that is precisely what AB 1955 enables, with potentially devastating consequences for children too young to fully comprehend them.”
“School officials do not have the right to keep secrets from parents, but parents do have a constitutional right to know what their minor children are doing at school,” Rae continued. “Parents are the legal guardians of their children, not Governor Newsom.”
A spokeswoman from Newsom’s office issued a statement mocking the lawsuit and vowing to fight it.
“This is a deeply unserious lawsuit, seemingly designed to stoke the dumpster fire formerly known as Twitter rather than surface legitimate legal claims,” said spokeswoman Izzy Gardon. “AB 1955 preserves the child-parent relationship, California law ensures minors can’t legally change their name or gender without parental consent, and parents continue to have guaranteed and full access to their student’s educational records consistent with federal law. We’re confident the state will swiftly prevail in this case.”
Ursula von der Leyen has been elected to a second term as the European Union’s Commission President, a post she was fires elected to in 2019. Next, von der Leyen will be inviting heads of state and government to send candidates for the selection of Commissioner posts. The selection assures the Eu’s current devolution towards centralized authoritarianism will only continue, if not accelerate.
This will be Ursula von der Leyen’s second term as Commission President. She was first elected by MEPs in July 2019.
Parliament is currently composed of 719 MEPs, so the necessary majority was 360 votes. The vote was held by secret paper ballot. 401 MEPs voted in favour, 284 against, and 22 cast blank or invalid votes.
Ahead of the vote, Ursula von der Leyen presented her political priorities for the next five years during a debate with MEPs.

The Commission President-elect will now send official letters to member state heads of state or government inviting them to put forward their candidates for European Commissioner posts. Vice President Kamala Harris is actively raising money for a bail fund that busts violent criminals from jail as her nascent presidential campaign signals her candidacy will lean heavily on her roots as a tough-on-crime former prosecutor.
Harris urged her followers to donate to the Minnesota Freedom Fund in June 2020 as Black Lives Matter rioters wreaked havoc in Minneapolis in the days following George Floyd’s death. Harris’s fundraising efforts helped the fund raise more than $41 million in 2020, but the group only used a small fraction of that bounty—$210,000—to bail rioters out of jail. The remaining funds helped post bail for violent criminals such as Christopher Boswell, a twice-convicted rapist who was freed from jail in 2020 pending kidnapping and sexual assault charges after the Minnesota Freedom Fund paid $350,000 for his release.
“The last time we were down there, the clerk said, ‘we hate it when you bail out these sex offenders, that is what they said,’” former Minnesota Freedom Fund interim executive director Greg Lewin told Fox9 in August 2020.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund continues to reap dividends from Harris’s fundraising efforts well into 2024. The vice president’s fundraising page for the group, which contains a photo of a triumphant Harris before a crowd of supporters alongside her 2020 campaign logo, is active and accepted a contribution from this reporter on Monday morning.

Jonathan Skrmetti said the appeals court confirmed the blockage of a new Title IX rule that “would have allowed boys into girls’ locker rooms and private spaces, remains BLOCKED and will not go into effect this summer.”
Skrmetti held a press conference earlier in the year to discuss the state’s fight to defend Title IX. He led six states in suing the federal Department of Education to challenge its “dangerous overhaul” of Title IX of the Education Amendments Act.
Title IX prohibits sex-based discrimination in schools that receive funding from the federal government.
“The U.S. Department of Education has no authority to let boys into girls’ locker rooms,” Tennessee Attorney General Skrmetti said in a statement. “In the decades since its adoption, Title IX has been universally understood to protect the privacy and safety of women in private spaces like locker rooms and bathrooms. Under this radical and illegal attempt to rewrite the statute, if a man enters a woman’s locker room and a woman complains that makes her uncomfortable, the woman will be subject to investigation and penalties for violating the man’s civil rights. Federal bureaucrats have no power to rewrite laws passed by the people’s elected representatives, and I expect the courts will put a stop to this unconstitutional power grab.”
A Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel asked California on Wednesday why a state law requiring social media platforms to disclose their policies about moderating hate speech and disinformation doesn’t amount to a violation of the First Amendment.
The three-judge panel took up X Corp.’s appeal of a federal judge’s refusal to block what California Governor Gavin Newsom in 2022 said was a first-of-its-kind social media transparency law to protect Californians from hate and disinformation spread online.
The law, AB 587, requires large social media businesses with annual revenue over $100 million to provide the state with reports about how they define and moderate content like hate speech, extremism, harassment and misinformation, as well as data on their enforcement of these policies.
MUMBAI, India – Four people in the India village of Moradabad, including a pastor from Uttarakhand, were arrested on Saturday for allegedly converting people by luring them on pretext of giving benefits.

Special counsel Jack Smith formally filed notice on Wednesday that he will appeal a Florida judge’s decision to dismiss Donald Trump’s 40-count indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents and obstructing government efforts to retrieve them.
The appeal, laying out Smith’s argument for why the case should not be dismissed, is expected to land inthe coming weeks in the Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit — an appeals court in Atlanta whose jurisdiction covers Florida.
The recently retired and now former Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Miley has stated he thinks the U.S. military will be 1/3 robotic by 2039 or sooner. He said, “Ten to fifteen years from now, my guess is a third, maybe 25% to a third of the U.S. military will be robotic,” speaking at an Axios newsletter launch event.
The 20th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff believes growing artificial intelligence and unmanned technology could lead to robotic military forces in the future.
“Ten to fifteen years from now, my guess is a third, maybe 25% to a third of the U.S. military will be robotic,” said retired Army Gen. Mark Milley at an Axios event Thursday launching the publication’s Future of Defense newsletter.
He noted these robots could be commanded and controlled by AI systems.
Advancements in technology and changes in the nature of war will enable militaries worldwide to make smarter and faster decisions, Milley said.
He was careful to clarify the difference between the nature and character of war. The former, he said, involves human activity and acts of politics.
“One side is trying to impose its political will on the other by the use of organized violence,” said Milley.
He noted this aspect of war rarely changes.
The character of war, however, involves tactics, technologies, weapons systems and leader training. Milley said that while these dynamics often change, the world is currently experiencing the biggest fundamental shift in human history with the rise of AI and robotics.
He cited the transition from the Civil War musket to the rifle as a prime example of a transformation that forever altered the landscape of armed conflict.
The country that implements these technologies the quickest for military use will gain the most decisive advantages over its adversaries, Milley said.
For America to maintain its supremacy as the world’s most lethal military, Milley believes it must not only adapt quickly but also in ways that might cause seismic shifts in operations.
Milley said current U.S. policy stipulates a human must always be involved and in charge when it comes to military robots and their use of lethal munitions. He explained the current thinking is that humans possess an ethical framework for decision-making that should be prioritized above all else.
Technology doesn’t have morality, he said.
But he didn’t rule out a reality where that might change.
“You can imagine a future from a technical standpoint [where] a machine enabled by AI, a robot enabled by AI, could make its own decisions,” said Milley. “Is that something the world wants?”

The FCC voted in April along party lines to reassume regulatory oversight of broadband internet and reinstate open internet rules adopted in 2015 that were rescinded under then-President Donald Trump.
