Employees of the federal government who have been waffling about whether or not to take the “Fork in the Road” buyout offer from the Trump administration have been given the gift of some breathing room, courtesy of U.S. District Judge George O’Toole, a Clinton appointee.

With the midnight Thursday decision deadline looming for millions of federal workers, O’Toole hit the brakes and scheduled a hearing for Monday during which he’ll consider blocking the buyout offer altogether.

“I enjoined the defendants from taking any action to implement the so-called ‘Fork Directive’ pending the completion of briefing and oral argument on the issues. I believe that’s as far as I want to go today,” said O’Toole, who described the brief hearing as a “table setting session” just to schedule arguments for Monday afternoon. He did not say anything about the merits of the dispute over the buyout.

As RedState’s Susie Moore previously reported, the Trump administration—who’ve been very transparent about their intention to reduce the size and scope of the federal government—sent a letter to nearly all of the federal workforce, which comes in at about two million strong, offering them the opportunity to dip out of government service effective 11:59 p.m. Thursday while continuing to be paid through September 30, 2025.

There’s good news for federal employees who were unhappy to learn they were expected to return to working in the office under the new Trump administration: They have another option — a buyout.

The White House will issue a memo Tuesday offering to pay federal workers who don’t want to return to the office through Sept. 30, as long as they resign by Feb. 6, an administration official tells Axios.

EPA employees are among those who can opt out of working for the government by resigning by next week. Those who take the deal will be allowed to retain benefits and be paid through September.

The email was sent to roughly 1,100 EPA employees who fell under the “probationary/trial” window, according to NBC News. But Marie Owens Powell, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Council 238, said the government would need cause to fire the employees.

“As a probationary/ trial period employee, the agency has the right to immediately terminate you,” the email said. “The process for probationary removal is that you receive a notice of termination, and your employment is ended immediately.”

A US bankruptcy judge on Wednesday blocked a settlement between families who have sued Alex Jones over his false claims about the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting, saying their attempt to divide the bankrupt conspiracy theorist’s assets exceeded his court’s authority.

The decision complicates a proposed sale of Jones’ Infowars platform, and could spur divisions between families who sued Jones and won nearly $1.3 billion in Connecticut court cases and those who won $50 million in Texas courts.

The two groups of families had proposed a settlement that would guarantee the Texas families a 25% share of Jones’ future payments made to the Sandy Hook families, with the Connecticut families taking 75%.

US Bankruptcy Judge Christopher Lopez rejected the settlement at a hearing in Houston, saying the families were asking him to also divide up the assets of Infowars’ parent company, Free Speech Systems, despite the fact that the company had been dismissed from bankruptcy last year.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge George A. O’Toole Jr. ruled against President Donald Trump’s “Fork in the Road” deferred resignation offer deadline, extending it from Thursday to at least Monday to allow labor unions to challenge its legality. Before he could extend the deadline, however, tens of thousands of employees had accepted the offer.

According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 40,000 federal workers accepted the deal — eight months of pay and benefits until September. The total represents about 2% of the federal workforce.

The White House’s reported goal was between 5% and 10% of the federal workforce.

Certain specifics of the plan haven’t been disclosed, such as whether workers who accept the offer can go into the private sector while still receiving paychecks from the federal government or how pensions and other benefits are affected. Labor unions cast doubt that Trump would stay true to the agreement.

The offer was emailed to all federal employees by the Office of Personnel Management on Jan. 28. The memo, titled “Fork in the Road,” demanded that employees begin to adhere to a much stricter code or resign.

The memo said that the “reformed federal workforce” would be built around four pillars: return to the office, performance culture, a more streamlined and flexible workforce, and enhanced standards of conduct.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ordered that CBS News release the entire “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, which the network withheld during the campaign. On Wednesday, no one was shocked to learn what everyone knew all along: CBS deceptively edited the interview to help the Harris campaign with her comically poor ability to answer questions coherently.

During the 2024 presidential campaign, CBS released only 20 minutes of a nearly hour-long interview with Harris. While calls to release the entire interview went unanswered at the time, the full video shows that CBS not only spliced her answer on American-Israeli relations in favor of Harris — the initial video that landed the outlet in hot water — but hid other key moments displaying her incapability.

“The video proves beyond a reasonable doubt that CBS News lied to the American people when they claimed they didn’t edit anything out of the video,” Nicholas Fondacaro, associate editor with MRC NewsBusters, told The Federalist. “It’s now confirmed that not only did they clean up Kamala’s word salad answers for the 60 Minutes airing, they also edited one of Whitaker’s questions because it called out the administration for getting ‘blindsided’ and ‘rebuffed’ on the international stage. Essentially, things that wouldn’t sit well with American voters ahead of what was thought to be a very tight election.”

The release of the full transcript and video interview comes after Trump sued CBS for “deceptive doctoring” of the video, which many said at the time was done essentially as a contribution to the Harris campaign. The Center for American Rights, a right-leaning law firm, also filed a complaint with the FCC to get the full interview released.

Trump-appointed FCC chair Brendan Carr obtained the full versions after pressuring CBS, which had consistently defended its decision to withhold the full versions. After the cuts, former CBS reporter Catherine Herridge — who was fired after investigating the Hunter Biden laptop — said that for CBS to release the footage or transcript would have normally been the common practice.

The Army is set to dramatically expand how many new recruits it can send to basic training this spring, riding the momentum of recent gains toward reversing a recruiting slump it has struggled with in recent years.

By April, the service expects to have 10 additional basic training units established across Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma — some of which are already established. In total, that would allow the Army to train up to 9,600 new recruits per year, according to Lt. Col. Randy Ready, a service spokesperson.

The move comes as the Army hit a major recruiting milestone. In January, Military.com was first to report the service reached the halfway mark toward its ambitious goal of bringing in 61,000 active-duty soldiers this fiscal year, which began in October. With recruiting numbers trending upward, officials are banking on a surge to sustain momentum and close the gap left by past shortfalls.

In a filing late Wednesday evening, lawyers with the Justice Department agreed to a proposed order that would largely prohibit the Treasury Department from sharing sensitive financial data with Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

The agreement allows two individuals associated with Musk but employed by the Treasury Department – called special government employees – to have “read only” access to the sensitive data.

We believe that 11 people, including the shooter, were killed at Campus Risbergska, a school for adults in the city of Örebro, about 125 miles from Stockholm. “At least” six people were seriously wounded, according to the police.

In an interview with the Aftonbladet tabloid, a relative of the suspect says he had not had much contact with family in recent years and was unemployed.

“As a child he was different but lively. He did well at school. But recent years were tough for him.”

Another relative says the man, who allegedly changed his surname eight years ago, was a “recluse” and may have had mental health problems.

“Before, he had a friend he spent he spent a lot of time with, but not now. He wants to be on his own. He doesn’t seem to like people much.”

Hours after the attack, heavily armed officers raided a flat in Orebro believed to be registered to the man, using drones and a ladder truck, according to Swedish Radio.

The broadcaster found he had no convictions to his name and had declared no income over the past few years.

NTSB Claims Black Hawk Helicopter Pilot Error Behind Deadly DC Crash

The mid-air collision over the Potomac River that led to the deaths of 67 people, 64 people on the jet and three on the helicopter, was caused by pilot error an initial NTSB report claims. The report cites the altitude of the helicopter, which was at 300 feet, 100 feet over the 200 feet limit.

Video of the crash leaked by airport workers shows the helicopter appears to have had plenty of time to see the plane and get out of the way. The airport workers were arrested. The pilot is Rebecca Lobach, whose social media presence appears to have been scrubbed before her name was released. Her family, reportedly, was worried she would be called a DEI hire.

The National Transportation Safety Board released an update on Tuesday informing the public that the Black Hawk helicopter that collided with an American Airlines plane in Washington, D.C., last week was flying too high at the time of the crash.

The agency found that the Black Hawk was positioned at 300 feet on the air traffic control display.

That is 100 feet higher than the ceiling of 200 feet for helicopters in the National Capital Region, according to a report from Fox News.

The report confirms earlier analysis of the crash, including from President Donald Trump, who wrote in a post on Truth Social that the “helicopter was flying too high, by a lot. It was far above the 200 foot limit.”

But it leaves key questions unanswered, particularly the cause of the error: Malfunctioning equipment? A mistake by the pilot? Some other reason?

The NTSB also recovered various parts of the Bombardier CRJ700 operated by American Airlines from the Potomac River.

The parts include the “right wing, center fuselage, part of the left wing and left fuselage, significant portions of the forward cabin and cockpit, vertical and horizontal stabilizers, tail cone, rudder, elevators, TCAS computer and quick access recorder.”

“We have the safest skies in the whole world. Traveling by air is the safest mode of transportation,” Duffy said.

“It’s not just air traffic controllers, but we do have technologies on airplanes to keep them separated,” he added. “So, yeah, no, this is the safest system.”

Duffy also criticized the diversity hiring that has occurred for air traffic controllers and said that the country should instead focus on hiring the most qualified candidates.

“You can’t focus on diversity, equity and inclusion when you try to hire air traffic controllers. You focus on the best and brightest,” Duffy added.
