After a Sudanese national apparently attempted to brutally behead a man in Belfast, Ireland, The New York Times on June 10 claimed the real concern was “anti-immigrant sentiment,” not how the U.K.’s open border policies enabled the attack.

Video from the attack, which went viral on social media, shows the migrant attacking a native U.K. citizen named Steven Ogilvy in an apparent attempted beheading. The New York Times (NYT) article does not describe the attack until four paragraphs in, and does not use the word “beheading” once. The article also buries information about the suspect, including the fact that he was a Sudanese who may have fraudulently claimed refugee status, in the eleventh paragraph.

Since he came down the escalator 11 years ago, Donald Trump’s personal conduct made him uniquely unfit for office and Americans had a moral obligation to oppose him, so said Democrats. Character mattered in politics, they told us.

But on Tuesday, nearly 150,000 Mainers sent a different message. Democrats handed Graham Platner a landslide primary victory, a decisive win for the man who had a Nazi tattoo. And to be clear, Platner wasn’t the only candidate on the ballot. Incumbent Gov. Janet Mills and former Democrat Senate nominee in 2024 David Costello were on the ballot as well. And yet it was a landslide victory for Platner.

Platner spent 18 years bearing a Nazi tattoo and only had it removed when it became ever so slightly (emphasis on slightly) politically inconvenient. He also said women worried about rape should not “get blacked out, f*cked up around people” they aren’t “comfortable” with. He also allegedly said that if someone ever broke into his home, he would “rape them … [but] not in a sexual way, not in a gay way.”

U.S. forces have completed a new round of strikes inside Iran, according to U.S. Central Command.

Harder! Faster!

The nerve center of Iran’s most powerful military force just went dark.

U.S. forces have struck and destroyed an IRGC command and control center, hitting Iranian surveillance, communications, and air defense sites across Iran in response to the regime’s downing of a U.S.

Still short of a full-scale resumption of hostilities. Iran International: Donald Trump said 49 Tomahawk missiles had been fired at Iran as he oversaw ongoing US military strikes from the Situation Room, according to Fox News. Trump said the strikes also involved fighter jet bombardment, with the closest target around 40 miles from Tehran. Trump said the bombing would stop shortly but warned that if Iran does not sign a deal, the United States would escalate further attacks (Iran). Wall Street Journal: U.S. military forces were striking air defenses and radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz, a senior U.S. official said. No infrastructure sites were hit, the official said. Iranian state media reported explosions in areas along the Strait of Hormuz, including Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Sirik, and said its air defenses were engaging with U.S. jet fighters. The Pentagon cast the attacks as an act of coercive diplomacy designed to force Iranian concessions at the negotiating table (Wall Street Journal). Noah Rothman: This is the strait opening operation that has been overdue since mid-April (Rothman).

CENTCOM Announces Completion of Latest Round of Strikes in Iran

From CENTCOM Wednesday night: U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces completed additional self-defense strikes against multiple targets in Iran, June 10, at the Commander in Chief’s direction. CENTCOM forces launched strikes on Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense sites across Iran. U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy assets fired precision munitions on Iranian targets that posed a threat to U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters. The strikes are in response to Iran’s unwarranted and continued aggression. U.S. forces remain vigilant, lethal, and ready (CENTCOM).

In the summer of 2021, Beth Cameron, a biodefense expert on President Joe Biden’s National Security Council, sprinted to review the classified intelligence on the origins of COVID-19 by a 90-day deadline.

The issue was sensitive: The Wuhan Institute of Virology, a lab complex at the pandemic’s epicenter, had conducted research that engineered novel coronaviruses with support from the U.S. government, namely, Anthony Fauci’s longtime institute at the National Institutes of Health. But prominent virologists in Fauci’s orbit had persuaded the corporate press that any suggestion of a connection between the pandemic and the Wuhan lab amounted to a conspiracy theory.

Biden had ordered a 90-day review of the intelligence that spring after a conflicted World Health Organization report failed to turn up credible answers.

Cameron called Fauci into a secure room on the White House campus that June, but not for questioning, declassified documents show. Instead Cameron invited him to the White House for a classified briefing with Maher Bitar, the special assistant to the president for intelligence.

“I would like to invite you to sit with us directly,” she wrote to Fauci in a newly released June 21, 2021 email. “We and Maher stand ready to assist and appreciate greatly your time and leadership.”

While Washington debates spending cuts and California pleads for more federal money, a new report shows hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded welfare flowed into California households headed by illegal immigrant parents in 2025.

A new report from the Administration for Children and Families found that roughly $617.5 million in cash assistance went to California households through so-called “child-only” Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cases during fiscal year 2024. That’s more than 81 percent of all spending nationwide under the program’s immigration-related, child-only category.

For most Americans, welfare comes with strings attached. Recipients are generally expected to work or prepare for work, and benefits are subject to a lifetime limit.

The AI industry has been pushing a narrative that the technology is a “black box” whose inner workings are so complex that they remain unknown even to the people making it. But another black box of AI is the underlying cost of the technology, and, specifically, what the AI boom is costing people who live near massive data centers. The data centers and energy plants that power large language models and other generative AI tools are subject to contracts cloaked in non-disclosure agreements and in many cases shielded from public scrutiny on the pretext that they contain competitive information.

A new report written by consultancy Synapse and commissioned by advocacy groups Earthjustice and Environmental Advocates Mississippi attempts to calculate the cost of 3 planned Amazon data centers to Entergy Mississippi customers, who share an energy utility with the centers. These hidden costs may offer a window into the broader burden borne by residents living near data centers around the country. The report estimates that residential customers of Entergy Mississippi, one of the state’s regional energy monopolies, have paid $38 million as of March 2026 for infrastructure and other costs related to data centers and will have paid $74 million by the end of the year.

Russia suffered a new night of hell as Ukraine signalled its new advantage in the war. Amid a night of failures by Russian air defences, another refinery – Novokuibyshevsk – was also blitzed in the Samara region.

Two more oil facilities named Lobkovo and Vtorovo, linked to pumping fuel to Moscow and northwestern Russia, were struck and damaged by Ukrainian drones in the Vladimir region, risking further petrol pump shortages. WASHINGTON — A federal judge on Wednesday rejected a government watchdog’s request for a court order temporarily blocking the Trump administration from forging ahead with a new $1.776 billion settlement fund for compensating people who claim to be victims of a weaponized government.

But the judge ended a hearing by issuing a “fair warning” to President Donald Trump’s administration: “Don’t play possum with this court,” U.S. District Judge Richard Leon told a government attorney.

Leon ruled from the bench in favor of the administration, which argued that the watchdog’s lawsuit is moot because acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Congress last month that the government is scrapping its plans for the fund. Leon, who was nominated to the bench by Republican President George W. Bush, said he accepts Blanche’s representation for now.

The judge’s refusal to issue a temporary restraining order isn’t the final word on the fate of the government’s “Anti-Weaponization Fund.” Leon said he will consider a separate request by the plaintiffs – Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington – for a preliminary injunction that would block payouts from the fund on a more permanent basis.

Vice President JD Vance has formally referred Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison to the Department of Justice Monday for criminal investigation after a new House Oversight report documented years of ignored fraud warnings. “The evidence is overwhelming that state officials knew about systemic fraud in Minnesota’s social services programs and chose to look the other way,”

Vance said in a statement. Washington Times: Mr. Vance, the administration’s fraud czar, said he was making the referral after reviewing the findings from the House Oversight Committee. The committee’s report, published Monday, alleges that Walz and Ellison were “aware of widespread taxpayer fraud in federally funded social programs for years” and did not take steps to stop it.

An estimated $300 million in federal child nutrition funds and potentially $9 billion in Medicaid-related funds were “lost” or placed at “serious risk,” according to the report. “As a result, potentially billions of American taxpayer dollars were allowed to flow to fraudulent actors, while vulnerable populations were harmed and whistleblowers were ignored, sidelined and retaliated against,” the report says (Washington Times).
