EXCERPT:
The Trump administration has cut off federal funding for New York’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit, accusing Attorney General Letitia James’s office of failing to produce serious criminal enforcement results despite overseeing one of the largest Medicaid programs in the country.
HHS Inspector General Thomas March Bell notified James in a letter that her office had produced fewer criminal indictments than comparable state units by a wide margin.
The letter said New York’s unit was the worst performer among similar-sized Medicaid fraud units.
