New York’s socialist wing is issuing warnings to the Democrat establishment after a sweeping primary victory gave NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani and his allies a stronger grip on the party’s future in the city.
Following Tuesday’s elections, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and the Democratic Socialists of America signaled that the far-left movement intends to use its victories to pressure Democrat leaders and shape the party’s direction heading into the 2026 midterms.
In a post-election call clipped by Manhattan Institute analyst Stu Smith, a DSA leader said socialist politicians now represent more than three million New Yorkers across multiple levels of government.
