EXCERPT:
A video of a man being detained in Vancouver by police and a CAR 87 mental health unit team has gone viral, acquiring millions of views on social media.
I have not seen anybody talking about what’s going on in Canada right now.
This man was pulled over and told by police that he had to come with them because a psychiatrist labeled him “certifiable.”
No paperwork, no rule of law, just a doctor saying that if he didn’t come with… pic.twitter.com/1shvKLRsWB

The detention took place on May 23, 2026. In the video, Nicholas Jordan Wagter could be seen looking to his passenger window while a man identified as Dr. Emory (some posts say “Emery”) is introduced, a resident psychiatrist on rotation with CAR 87, who is “part of a program that includes Vancouver Coastal Health and the Vancouver Police.”
“Every case is a little different,” Emory says. “In your case, I think you were certified under the Mental Health Act just … maybe three weeks ago or four. Where you aware of that?” Emory explains that he had been “certified” by Dr. Christine Taylor – who also works with the mental health response team.
