A federal judge once accused of waging war on Trump-era policies has been tapped to oversee former National Security Adviser John Bolton’s high-profile criminal case — and conservatives are furious.
Judge Theodore D. Chuang, appointed by Barack Obama, has a long record of rulings that rubbed conservatives the wrong way. Now, he’s been assigned to the Bolton case, where the former national security chief faces 18 total counts for allegedly mishandling classified information through a personal email account potentially compromised by foreign hackers.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) blasted the move on X, calling out Chuang’s political history and left-leaning track record.

Cook County Circuit Chief Judge Timothy Evans has issued an administrative decree that effectively bars ICE and Border Patrol agents from making civil immigration arrests at or near county courthouses, even as aliens appear for hearings.
The edict, signed late Tuesday night and going into effect Wednesday, proclaims that “no person attending or returning from a court proceeding shall be subject to a civil arrest” unless there is a judicial warrant or order.
The order explicitly limits it to civil immigration arrests. The order also includes the walkways, entryways, driveways, and parking lots contiguous to courthouses. “The fair administration of justice requires that courts remain open and accessible, and that litigants and witnesses may appear without fear of civil arrest,” the order states.
New York Attorney General Letitia James has been harboring a fugitive from justice in the Norfolk, Virginia house at the center of her federal indictment, the Daily Mail reported Monday.
Letitia James’s niece, Shamice Thompson-Hairston, has two daughters who live in separate properties owned by James in Norfolk. Both have significant criminal histories.

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has vowed to take legal action against anyone in the federal government allegedly involved in monitoring his private phone records during Special Counsel Jack Smith’s “investigation” into Jan. 6.
The senator’s fiery remarks followed bombshell reports revealing that Smith and his team, as part of their so-called “Arctic Frost” investigation, allegedly tracked phone calls from multiple Republican lawmakers well after the events of Jan. 6, 2021.

The Justice Department asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday to shut down lower courts’ “interference” with President Trump’s efforts to fire Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook.
In its emergency application for stay, the Trump administration requested that the high court place a temporary pause on a preliminary injunction issued last week by Biden-appointed District Judge Jia Cobb. That order sought to block the president from removing Cook from her position with the agency.
Trump announced he was firing Cook “on Aug. 25 over allegations broached by one of his appointees that she committed mortgage fraud related to two properties she purchased in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Atlanta in 2021, before she joined the Federal Reserve,” according to a local Fox affiliate.
Cobbs’ ruling prompted the Trump administration to appeal to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, asking the higher court to pause the Biden appointee’s injunction. A three-judge panel for the appellate court declined (2-1) to do so on Monday.
Writing on behalf of the administration, U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer asked the Supreme Court to place “an immediate administrative stay of [Cobbs’] preliminary injunction” while the merits of the case continue to proceed in the lower courts. He specifically argued that the government’s newest application “involves yet another case of improper judicial interference with the President’s removal authority — here, interference with the President’s authority to remove members of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors for cause.”
“The Federal Reserve Act, ch. 6, 38 Stat. 251, broadly authorizes the President to dismiss members of the Board of Governors ‘for cause,’ without further restricting permissible types of cause,” Sauer wrote.
