In Pasadena, California, an infamous pediatrician named Johanna Olson-Kennedy who provides transgender intervention procedures for children was forced to close her medical office at the end of September (as The Federalist reported), after a pro-trans parent corporation read the political climate and switched to an adults-only operation. It was the second time in two years Olson-Kennedy was driven out of business, as Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles closed her first practice in 2025.

This development comes at an unusually important moment, as California just changed the way it funds sex-rejecting procedures for minors, as of October 13. Following recent federal guidance, California will no longer pay for pediatric gender mutilation through Medi-Cal, the state’s version of the federally funded but state-administered Medicaid and CHIP.

Ending federally funded sex-rejecting procedures, California is switching to a more limited grant program funded only with state dollars. The state legislature has budgeted three pools of money, totaling $66 million, that can be used to pay for sex-rejecting procedures, with $10 million specifically designated for doctors who butcher children.

A federal appellate court shot down a California law on Wednesday that sought to require ICE agents to show identification while conducting immigration operations in the state.

In its unanimous ruling, a three-judge panel for the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals held that Section 10 of the state’s No Vigilantes Act violates the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy Clause, which specifies that federal law supersedes state law. The panel was comprised of Judge Jacqueline Nguyen, an Obama appointee, and Judges Mark Bennett and Daniel Collins, both Trump appointees.

According to The Hill, the Justice Department sued the Golden State last year after Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the No Vigilantes Act, “which demands that plainclothes law enforcement officers operating in California ‘shall visibly display identification.’” In conjunction with California’s No Secret Police Act — “which banned federal law enforcement officers from wearing masks while carrying out operations in the state” — “the law took effect on Jan. 1 and required officers to show identification while performing their duties.”

The 9th Circuit previously granted the Trump administration’s emergency request to block the contested statute while the court considered the merits of the issue.

In affirming that blockade, Bennett and his colleagues concluded that the Trump administration is “certain to succeed” on the merits of its supremacy clause argument because Section 10 of the No Vigilantes Act “attempts to directly regulate the United States in its performance of governmental functions, and Congress has not authorized such regulation.” The Supremacy Clause, the Trump appointee noted, explicitly bars states “from directly regulating federal operations even when regulating state operations in the same manner.”

Because these expressions are implicit, tied to particular communities, and constantly evolving, they have long frustrated content moderation researchers. Now a team at the People’s Public Security University of China has unveiled a machine learning framework designed to catch them, combining agentic retrieval-augmented generation with a multi-agent data augmentation strategy in a few-shot learning setting. The work, published in the International Journal of Machine Learning and Cybernetics, reports consistent gains over widely used detectors such as BERTweet and RoBERTa as well as over augmentation-based baselines.

The challenge the researchers set out to address is fundamentally one of knowledge and context. Unlike overt slurs, dog whistles derive their meaning from historical and sociocultural cues that are rarely spelled out in the text itself. A model trained on standard hate speech corpora sees a benign-looking sentence and classifies it as harmless, while a human reader embedded in the relevant community immediately recognizes the coded hostility. Prior studies have made progress in discovering and understanding dog whistles, but downstream detection of dog-whistle hate speech has remained underexplored. Compounding the problem, large-scale human annotation is expensive and becomes obsolete quickly as new coded expressions emerge, which makes few-shot learning, where models must learn from only a handful of labeled examples, the realistic operational setting.

Most importantly for Bolsonaro Senior, this legislative fortress could secure him much-needed amnesty. An allied Parliament gives Flavio Bolsonaro the power to erase his father’s legal woes. Attorney General Merrick Garland and others ignored stark warnings from the DOJ’s own attorneys against sending the FBI to investigate concerned parents who opposed leftist school policies as potential domestic terrorists.

In a scathing new report, the Department of Justice’s Weaponization Working Group concluded that the Biden administration worked together with the National School Boards Association (NSBA) in 2021 to target parents who opposed local school board policies and ignored warnings from their own attorneys that their actions were political and likely a blatant violation of the Constitution.

Just weeks after the United States commemorated the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks, a new poll reveals more than one in five undergraduate students believe America deserved the attacks, while nearly half of all undergraduate students think physical violence is justified to stop so-called hate speech.

The Buckley Institute’s 2026 National Undergraduate Student Survey polled 803 American undergraduate students between September 5 and 14.

A shocking 22 percent agreed that America deserved 9/11, including 28 percent of liberal students. Notably, leftist streamer Hasan Piker — who campaigned with Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and cozies up to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — has said America deserved 9/11. Meanwhile, Aber Kawas, a Democratic Socialist of America member and nominee for the New York state Senate, has said that America brought on 9/11 because of capitalism, alleged white supremacy and racism, and alleged Islamophobia.

The poll also found that 45 percent of American college students believe physical violence can be justified to stop hate speech — among which 54 percent of liberals agree compared to 30 percent of conservatives.

“Interestingly, 72% of those who agree that physical violence can be justified to stop hate speech also agree that hate speech is protected by the First Amendment,” The Buckley Institute found.

According to the White House, this year’s reception recognizes nearly 40 fallen troops from operations dating back to the Vietnam War. Trump was scheduled to deliver an address, followed by a candle-lighting ceremony and a musical presentation featuring a rendition of “America the Beautiful.”

A 15-year-old supporter of Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party was arrested in Britain after he made jokes about a local Conservative Party politician online.

The schoolboy, only referred to as Fraser, was arrested by four officers from the West Midlands Police at his home in the early hours of August 3rd. He was taken from his family home and searched in front of his neighbours, locked in a cell, fingerprinted, had a mugshot taken, and had a sample of his DNA taken. Meanwhile, two officers searched his bedroom, and he was pressured to hand over his phone for other officers to search.

While the police force has yet to confirm the reason for the 15-year-old’s arrest, The Telegraph reports that it appears that it was a result of comments made by Fraser online about the standard of dress of the leader of the Conservative Party on the Wolverhampton City Council, Simon Bennett, who has admitted referring the boy to the police over the posts.

In one post, he complained that the Tory councillor had attended a meeting in a T-shirt and shorts and later said he expressed approval when Bennet then attended a subsequent meeting in a suit. Fraser said that he was glad the councillor did not turn up “looking like a rent boy”, a derogatory phrase for homosexual prostitutes in Britain.

Unfortunately, she was almost killed before counseling helped her see that her life was not measured by the meals she served.

Doctors Gary Rodin and Madeline Li of the University of Toronto described the case in a New York Times opinion piece. The woman felt she had lost her value to her family and was approved for medical assistance in dying before she sought counseling.

Through counseling, she came to understand that her family valued who she was, not what she did for them. She decided not to go through with ending her life, at least for now.

That Christmas, her family gathered and she sat proudly at the table while others did the cooking and serving.

Rodin and Li said they are not opposed to legalized assisted dying, but they warned that Canadian law does not require clinicians to guide patients toward other help before people are killed.

Assisted suicide is intended as a “dignified” last resort, typically for people who are terminally ill, they wrote. In recent years, “too many people are receiving the procedure without the opportunity for careful reflection about it with a health provider.”

“In some cases, patients are being approved who should not be,” they added, citing reports of approvals for patients claiming loneliness or poverty.
