Over the summer, the Trump administration announced that it would construct a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House, which press secretary Karoline Leavitt described to reporters as a “much-needed and exquisite addition.” Not surprisingly, a rendering looks very Versailles-esque and includes an unrestrained use of the color gold; though the room was initially expected to have a seating capacity for 650 people, Trump later said it would hold 900.) In a statement that she may or may not have been contractually obligated to release, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles told the public: “President Trump is a builder at heart and has an extraordinary eye for detail.” Following the announcement, Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer wondered aloud. “Where’d this money come from? Did Congress appropriate it? I don’t think so. It’s almost like DOGE was never about waste.” In September, CBS reported that a collection of individual and corporate donors—including Google, Booz Allen Hamilton, Lockheed Martin, and Palantir—had pledged to donate nearly $200 million for construction costs.

Bombshell Filing Shakes Up Closely Watched House Race– trendingpoliticsnews.com

A new court filing claims that a Democratic Party candidate in a tightly-contested, GOP-controlled race for the Virginia House of Delegates doesn’t live in the district she is seeking to represent. The stretch run shakeup could have massive implications on control of the Virginia State House, as Democrats are currently favored to hold on to their slim majority next month.

Three voters in Stafford County have filed a court challenge alleging that Stacey Carroll, the Democrat candidate in Virginia’s 64th District, actually lives in the neighboring Democrat-majority 23rd. The complaint seeks to have Carroll removed from the ballot.

Plaintiffs Stephen Schwartz, Judith Anne Parker and Juliet Schweiter alleged Carroll continues to live near US-1 in Aquia, Virginia, at the southern edge of the 23rd district. She does so, the plaintiffs alleged, despite filing to run for a race about seven miles southwestward near Stafford Court House, Virginia, in the 64th, Fox News reported.

Greece general strike disrupts services across the country– abcnews.go.com

ATHENS, Greece — A nationwide general strike in Greece left ferries tied up in port and disrupted public transportation across the capital on Wednesday, as public and private sector workers protest changes to the country’s labor laws.

No taxis in Athens or trains will run for the duration of the 24-hour strike, while buses and the city’s subway, tram and trolley services were operating on a reduced schedule.

The strike was disrupting services across the country, including in schools, courts, public hospitals and municipalities. Two protest marches were planned in central Athens, with demonstrations also set for other cities.

Unions representing civil servants and private sector workers called the strike to protest labor law changes that will introduce more flexibility, including allowing overtime that could stretch shifts to 13 hours in a day. Under the new regulations, working hours that include overtime would be capped at 48 hours per week, with a maximum 150 overtime hours allowed per year.

Unions argue the new rules leave workers vulnerable to labor abuses by employers.

“We say no to the 13-hour (shift). Exhaustion is not development, human tolerance has limits,” the private sector umbrella union, the General Confederation of Workers of Greece, said in a statement. The union called for a 37½-hour working week and the return of collective bargaining agreements.

Federal Air Marshal Describes How His Wife Was Put on TSA Domestic Terror Watch List After Attending Trump J6 Rally › American Greatness– amgreatness.com

The wife of a senior U.S. Air Marshal was branded a domestic terrorist and subjected to invasive monitoring after attending the Trump rally on the Ellipse in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021, despite zero evidence linking her any unlawful activity on that day, according to a stunning new Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee report on the Biden administration’s weaponization of the Quiet Skies program.

“She was placed in the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database and, for two years, followed on domestic flights by Federal Air Marshals, who reported her movements and interactions, sometimes on a minute-by-minute basis. Her name was finally cleared only after the FBI closed its case due to mistaken identity,” Senate Homeland Security Chairman Rand Paul (R-Ky.) stated in a press release, Monday.

The Transportation Security Administration’s Quiet Skies initiative was launched in 2010 to monitor air travelers exhibiting suspicious behaviors or travel patterns, even if they were not on official watchlists. The now canceled program reportedly failed to prevent a single act of terrorism.

Tulsi Gabbard, a combat veteran and former congresswoman, now serving as Director of National Intelligence, was also surveilled on at least five flights in 2024, according to the report.

That surveillance reportedly began just one day after Gabbard publicly criticized Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

DOJ Sues LA County Sheriff Over Alleged CCW “Slow-Walk,” After 3,982 Applications Yield Just 2 Approvals– www.usacarry.com

LOS ANGELES, CA – The U.S. Department of Justice filed a civil-rights complaint against the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Robert Luna, alleging a pattern and practice of effectively denying concealed carry weapon permits by imposing extraordinary delays on applicants.

According to the nine-page complaint filed September 30 in the Central District of California, LASD received 3,982 new CCW applications between January 2024 and March 2025 and approved only two during that period. The filing says applicants waited an average of 281 days just to see their files moved to the next step, with a median delay of 372 days and some waits projected to reach 1,030 days. As of May 8, 2025, 2,768 new applications remained pending, with interviews scheduled as late as November 2026.

The Justice Department argues these delays violate Californians’ Second Amendment rights recognized in Bruen and also flout California’s statutory deadlines that require an initial determination within 90 days and a final decision within 120 days or 30 days after state DOJ results, whichever is later. The lawsuit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief to force timely, lawful processing of permits.

According to the DOJ complaint, by letter dated March 27, 2025, the Department notified Sheriff Luna that it was opening an investigation into LASD’s practices under 34 U.S.C. § 12601. National outlets likewise reported the department’s core statistics: only two approvals out of nearly 4,000 new applications, with waits commonly stretching many months before any progress.

LASD had not issued a detailed public response at the time of filing, according to early coverage. The complaint names LASD and Sheriff Luna in his official capacity and asks the court for a permanent injunction preventing the department from administering California’s CCW laws in a manner that violates the Second and Fourteenth Amendments.

Federal Judge Blocks Trump from Firing Hundreds of Employees at Voice of America– slaynews.com

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration’s plan to fire more than 500 employees at the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM).

U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth sided with plaintiffs who challenged the layoffs.

Lamberth blocked Acting USAGM CEO Kari Lake’s plan to lay off 532 staffers, most of whom worked for Voice of America (VOA), while litigation over the case continues.

“The Reduction in Force announced by Defendant Lake on or about August 29, 2025, is SUSPENDED and may NOT be implemented, effectuated, or completed in any way,” Lamberth wrote in his ruling.

Trump’s Push to Rein in Bureaucracy Stalls

Lake and the administration have argued that the mass firings were necessary to streamline the bloated agency, which oversees outlets such as Radio Free Europe and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks.

“These reductions are critical to help reduce the federal bureaucracy, improve agency service, and save the American people more of their hard-earned money,” Lake said last month.

She has described Voice of America as “rotten to the core” and “anti-American.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom signs landmark AI safety law SB 53– fortune.com

California has taken a significant step toward regulating artificial intelligence with Governor Gavin Newsom signing a new state law that will require major AI companies, many of which are headquartered in the state, to publicly disclose how they plan to mitigate the potentially catastrophic risks posed by advanced AI models.

The law also creates mechanisms for reporting critical safety incidents, extends whistleblower protections to AI company employees, and initiates the development of CalCompute, a government consortium tasked with creating a public computing cluster for safe, ethical, and sustainable AI research and innovation. By compelling companies, including OpenAI, Meta, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, to follow these new rules at home, California may effectively set the standard for AI oversight.

Newsom framed the law as a balance between safeguarding the public and encouraging innovation. In a statement, he wrote: “California has proven that we can establish regulations to protect our communities while also ensuring that the growing AI industry continues to thrive. This legislation strikes that balance.”

The legislation, authored by State Sen. Scott Wiener, follows a failed attempt to pass a similar AI law last year. Wiener said that the new law, which was known by the shorthand SB 53 (for Senate Bill 53), focuses on transparency rather than liability, a departure from his prior SB 1047 bill, which Newsom vetoed last year.

“SB 53’s passage marks a notable win for California and the AI industry as a whole,” said Sunny Gandhi, VP of Political Affairs at Encode AI, a co-sponsor SB 53. “By establishing transparency and accountability measures for large-scale developers, SB 53 ensures that startups and innovators aren’t saddled with disproportionate burdens, while the most powerful models face appropriate oversight. This balanced approach sets the stage for a competitive, safe, and globally respected AI ecosystem.”

BREAKING: Secret Service Arrests Man Who Endangered Trump by Pointing Laser at Marine One– conservativeroof.com

The U.S. Secret Service has arrested a man in the nation’s capitol for allegedly pointing a laser at Marine One while President Donald Trump was on board, an incident the agency said could have resulted in a midair collision.

In an affidavit on Sept. 22 in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, a Secret Service agent said he encountered the suspect, identified as Jacob Samuel Winkler, in the early hours of Sept. 20 while patrolling the secure area near Constitution Avenue NW. At the time, Marine One was airborne, carrying the president southbound from the White House South Grounds and crossing over The Ellipse.

The agent reported seeing the suspect walking shirtless along the south sidewalk of Constitution Avenue, “talking to himself and being loud.” Because the area was poorly lit, the agent shone a flashlight on him. In apparent retaliation, Winkler allegedly pointed a red laser at the agent’s face, briefly disorienting him. As this occurred, Marine One flew low and directly above where the two stood.

“The rotor noise was loud, and the aircraft appeared large overhead,” the agent wrote. The agent said that as he approached, Winkler looked up, aimed the same red laser pointer toward Marine One, and activated the beam.

Doing so posed “a risk of flash blindness and pilot disorientation,” particularly during low-level flight near the Washington Monument, as well as other helicopters operated by the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Park Police, the agent told the judge.

Anger and confusion gripped Chinese professionals in the U.S. after White House leader Donald Trump slapped hefty fees on new work visas, deepening anxiety among those seeking to build careers stateside.

Last Friday, the Trump administration said that it would ask companies to pay $100,000 for new H-1B visa applicants. A slew of tech firms and banks including Microsoft, JPMorgan and Amazon responded to the announcements by advising employees holding the H-1B visas to stay in the country.

The White House has now clarified that the new rule only applies to new H-1B applicants, not to current visa holders or to those seeking to renew their permits.

While the U.S. government may cash in on a windfall from the visa fee hike in the near term, the new policy will almost certainly deter Chinese students from pursuing a degree or career in the U.S., said Xinbo Wu, director of Fudan University’s Center for American Studies in Shanghai.

India was the largest beneficiary of H-1B visas last year, accounting for 71% of approved visa holders, with China as a distant second at 11.7%, according to the U.S. homeland security data.

Supreme Court Assassination Plot Targeted Three Justices, Bombshell Memo Reveals– trendingpoliticsnews.com

A Justice Department sentencing memo lays out the chilling plan by Nicholas “Sophie” Roske to kill not just Justice Brett Kavanaugh but up to three Supreme Court justices, describing a months-long operation that prosecutors say amounted to terrorism against the judiciary. The government is asking for at least 30 years in prison following Roske’s guilty plea for attempting to assassinate a justice.

Filed Friday in federal court in Maryland, the memorandum details extensive online research, weapons purchases, and reconnaissance leading up to Roske’s arrival outside Kavanaugh’s Maryland home in the early hours of June 8, 2022. According to prosecutors, Roske’s own digital trail shows he wanted to alter the Court’s direction through murder. In Discord messages quoted by the filing, Roske wrote that he was “shooting for 3” and observed that “people have killed judges before.” The memo says a saved Google map pinned what Roske believed were the home addresses of four justices.

Authorities say Roske flew from California to Dulles with a Glock 17, ammunition, a knife, zip ties, a pry bar, tactical gloves, and other gear, then took a taxi to Kavanaugh’s street. Upon spotting deputy U.S. marshals outside the residence, he walked away, spoke with his sister, and dialed 911, later surrendering to police. Prosecutors argue the change of heart came only after he saw the security presence.

The government’s filing describes methodical preparation that began months earlier. Investigators cite searches such as “most effective way to silently kill someone,” “how to break glass quietly,” and “countries least likely to extradite to the US.” They say Roske purchased the handgun and accessories in late May 2022, practiced at a range, researched target addresses, and attempted to wipe devices and delete accounts before traveling. The memo frames the plan as an effort to “single-handedly alter the Constitutional order for ideological ends.”

UKRAINE claimed its troops have turned the tide in a key part of the eastern front.

Kyiv’s top general Oleksandr Syrskyi said his troops had recaptured some 60 square miles in a major reversal since August.

He also claimed Putin’s invaders had abandoned positions in a further 70 square miles north of the bomb-blitzed town of Pokrovsk.

The advances are welcome successes for Kyiv after months of Russian assaults wore down Ukraine’s morale.

Gen Syrskyi claimed Russian forces had suffered eye-watering losses including 1500 killed in action, another thousand wounded and at least 12 main battle tanks destroyed.

In a statement on Monday Gen Syrskyi said: “Control has been restored in seven settlements and nine more have been cleared of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups.

“As of 12pm on 22 September 2025, a total of 164.0 km² have been liberated and another 180.3 km² cleared of enemy sabotage groups.”

Democratic Party Pushes Emergency Hearing Against Chief Justice – 조선일보

The National Assembly’s Legislation and Judiciary Committee, led by the Democratic Party, decided on the 30th to hold an emergency hearing on allegations of Chief Justice Jo Hee-de’s intervention in the presidential election. The Democratic Party previously raised the same allegations in May when it was the opposition party and held a hearing, but found no evidence that Chief Justice Jo intervened in the election. At that time, Chief Justice Jo and all justices who were summoned as witnesses did not attend. Now, the party is pushing for another hearing based on the conspiracy theory of a “secret meeting involving Jo Hee-de, Han Duck-soo, and two others.” This marks the first time a ruling party has held a hearing targeting the head of the judiciary. The People Power Party (PPP) condemned it as a “violation of the separation of powers and a clear act of destroying the judiciary.”

The committee passed a resolution on the 22nd during a plenary session to implement the hearing plan and summon witnesses and references. The session was originally intended for a legislative hearing on prosecutorial reform, but Choo Mi-ae, the Democratic Party chair of the committee, unexpectedly added the hearing plan for Chief Justice Jo to the agenda. As PPP members protested and walked out, the Democratic Party and the Rebuilding Korea Party proceeded with the decision. In the hearing plan, the Democratic Party claimed, “Chief Justice Jo violated procedural and legal regulations by issuing an unreasonable ruling related to the trial of a specific candidate (President Lee Jae-myung) ahead of the presidential election, and suspicions have arisen that he undermined the independence and political neutrality of the judiciary by allegedly conspiring in advance through a ‘four-person meeting’ with Han Duck-soo and others.”

Authorities in Moldova said they had carried out 250 raids and detained dozens of people on Monday as part of an investigation into an alleged Russia-backed plan to incite “mass riots” and destabilise the country in the run-up to critical parliamentary elections.

The raids targeted more than 100 people and took place in multiple localities across the country, police said.

Seventy-four people were detained for up to 72 hours, said Victor Furtuna, Moldova’s chief prosecutor from the Office for Combating Organised Crime and Special Cases.

Moldova’s police said that the unrest plot was “coordinated from the Russian Federation, through criminal elements.”

Furtuna said that most of the suspects “systematically traveled” to Serbia, where they received training and that they were aged between 19 and 45 years old.

Moldovans will vote on Sunday to choose the new 101-seat legislature, in an election many view as a choice between the country’s continued path toward European Union membership or closer ties with Russia.

US President Donald Trump has clinched $12 billion in trade deals with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan amid a push to deepen economic ties with the strategic Central Asian region.

Uzbekistan agreed to buy 22 787 airplanes from Chicago-based Boeing for more than $8 billion, Trump said in a September 22 post on Truth Social.

“We will continue to work together on many more items!” Trump said in the post.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan signed an agreement to buy 300 US locomotives as well as other rail equipment from Pennsylvania-based Wabtec Corporation for $4.2 billion. The US Commerce Department described it as the largest rail deal in U.S. history.

“This landmark deal advances US manufacturing jobs and accelerates growth, opportunity, and connectivity in America and Central Asia,” Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said during a signing ceremony in New York with Kazakh President Qasym-Zhomart Toqaev.

Trump earlier in the day spoke by phone with Toqaev, who is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly.

Trump is seeking to strengthen trade and investment ties with resource-rich Central Asia as he focuses on ending US dependence on China for critical minerals, including rare earths.

Business and legal representatives for the longtime late-night host have been in talks with the higher-ups at ABC and its parent company, Disney, with the hopes of bringing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” back to TVs nationwide, Variety reported, citing three sources with knowledge on the matter.

The show was abruptly pulled off the air on Wednesday, with executives saying it would be “preempted indefinitely” over Kimmel’s remarks about the discourse triggered by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

Since then, the 11:35 p.m. slot has been filled with reruns of “Celebrity Family Feud,” and a Charlie Kirk memorial special that aired Friday.

Kirk was shot on Sept. 10 during a student Q&A at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour. He was hit in the neck by a lone bullet during the outdoor event on the Orem campus and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

‘Strategy is to…’: China welcomes Saudi-Pakistan defence deal, sees it as a move to corner India and Israel – India.Com

Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed a defence agreement on Wednesday, stating that an attack on either country will be treated as an attack on both. The pact is meant to strengthen their decades-old security partnership at a time when tensions in the region are rising. The two nations have always shared close ties, with Saudi Arabia often described as Pakistan’s “ATM” because of its repeated financial support.

Pakistan, who already shares close defence ties with China, welcomed the new Saudi-Pakistan pact. Chinese analysts have described the agreement as part of a strategy aimed at putting pressure on India and Israel.

The agreement comes as Saudi Arabia faces fresh security concerns. According to Global Times, Gulf countries have begun to question America’s reliability as their long-term security protector. Worries increased further after Israel’s recent attack on Qatar. In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said: “Any act of aggression against one will be considered an act of aggression against both.”

After the signing of the defence agreement, Pakistan’s state television showed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman smiling and hugging each other. Media reports said that Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, was also present at the event. Munir, often described as the most powerful man in Pakistan, is believed to be the key figure behind this deal. Analysts say he understands that Pakistan’s army alone cannot defeat India, so he is trying to bring Saudi Arabia in as a strong security partner and source of pressure on New Delhi.

A new poll puts Germany’s far-right AfD neck and neck with Chancellor Merz’s Christian Democrats, signalling a broader shift as the party expands beyond its eastern strongholds and builds national momentum.

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) continues to put pressure on Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s Christian Democrats, with a widely watched poll released showing the two parties tied among voters at 26%.

The AfD have topped polls before after surging in popularity over the past year, but the latest edition of the public broadcaster ZDF’s Politbarometer poll underscores the party’s apparent staying power – and a threat to Merz from further to the right. His junior coalition partners, the once-mighty Social Democrats (SPD), stayed steady at 15% in the poll – once an unthinkably poor showing for the centre-left party.

The poll comes on the heels of last week’s election in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW), Germany’s most populous state. Merz’s Christian Democrats managed to hold onto power in the vote – but the AfD made deep inroads, nearly tripling its share of the vote.

Elon Musk’s Neuralink is preparing to launch a landmark clinical trial in October 2025, aiming to help patients with severe speech impairments, including those affected by spinal injuries, stroke, and ALS, communicate directly using their thoughts. The US Food and Drug Administration has granted Neuralink a “Breakthrough Device” designation and investigational device exemption, allowing fast-track approval for this study. Neuralink’s brain implants are designed to read activity in the speech cortex and convert imagined speech into text, bypassing keyboards or spoken words. The technology also has the potential to allow users to interact with AI models and send information directly through devices such as wireless earbuds.

How Neuralink’s thought-to-text implants work

Neuralink’s implant records activity in the brain’s speech cortex, decoding neural signals to convert thoughts into readable text. Unlike traditional virtual keyboard brain-computer interfaces, this technology directly translates imagined speech into words. Previous human trials since 2024 have allowed participants to control computers, send emails, play video games, and post on social media using only their thoughts. The upcoming trial is the first FDA-cleared study specifically aimed at decoding speech from brain waves, providing faster and more intuitive communication for patients with severe speech or motor impairments.Neuralink resolved prior FDA safety concerns before beginning human trials. As of September 2025, at least 12 participants worldwide have received the implant, providing thousands of hours of data on its performance and safety. So far, the devices have demonstrated consistent results without major adverse effects, allowing participants with paralysis to perform complex digital tasks through thought alone.

The head of Malawi’s electoral commission has warned political parties not to prematurely declare electoral victory, saying they should wait for the official results.

Annabel Mtalimanja’s warning came after the parties of the two main presidential candidates, the incumbent Lazarus Chakwera and his predecessor Peter Mutharika, claimed they had won Tuesday’s poll.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Ms Mtalimanja said that only the commission was mandated to release results.

Malawians have been eagerly awaiting results, but the commission has not yet released any – despite the fact that nearly all votes have been counted.

The commission is expected to announce the outcome only after all votes have been tallied and verified in order to avoid the possibility of the final result being challenged.

A candidate needs to win more than 50% of the vote, or a run-off is held.
