Eighty years after VE-Day, which marked the formal Nazi surrender and the end of six years of war in Europe, many fear a third world war is imminent.

New YouGov polling conducted in Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the U.S. shows that between 41 per cent and 55 per cent of respondents in each country think another world war is likely to occur within the next five to 10 years. Forty-five per cent of Americans hold the same view.

According to separate Ipsos data, 82 per cent of Canadians said they strongly agreed that the world had become more dangerous in 2024, a five-point decline from the previous year.

President Donald Trump turned what was supposed to be a routine diplomatic meeting into a comedic masterclass Tuesday, sparring with newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Though tensions between the two nations have been on a steady climb — fueled by tariffs, trade disputes, and a hotly contested Canadian election — the president didn’t miss a chance to revive his favorite icebreaker: the idea of Canada becoming America’s 51st state.

Asked directly whether he still believed Canada should join the United States, Trump didn’t skip a beat.

“Well, I still believe that, but, you know, takes two to tango, right?” he said from the Oval Office. “I mean, I believe it would be a massive tax cut for the Canadian citizens. You get free military, you get tremendous medical cares and other things. There would be a lot of advantages, but it would be a massive tax cut.”

With Carney sitting across from him, the president then took a detour into art and geography. “As a real estate developer, you know, I’m a real estate developer at heart,” Trump explained. “When you get rid of that artificially drawn line… just a straight line right across the top of the country… I looked at that, you know, I said that’s the way it was meant to be.”

U.S. President Donald Trump heaped praise on newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his “comeback win” in Washington D.C. today, as the two leaders met at the White House for the first time. While Carney maintained Canada is “not for sale,” Trump replied, “never say never.”

While meeting in the White House, Trump said Carney’s win in last Monday’s federal election was the greatest thing that happened to the prime minister, calling it one of the greatest comebacks in the “history of politics.”

“Canada chose a very talented person,” said Trump with Carney sitting next to him.

Trump said he watched the Canadian federal leaders debate, saying the pro-abortion, World Economic Forum-linked Carney was “excellent.”

Trump then noted he had “a lot of respect” for Carney and said he did great in the debate and “ran a really great election.”

DAILY CALLER NEWS FOUNDATION—Police arrested dozens of protesters at the University of Washington on Monday night after an antifa-style mob lit fires and took over a building to protest Israel.

“About 30 individuals who occupied” an engineering studies building were arrested and will be referred for prosecution, a university spokesperson said in a Tuesday statement. Videos posted on X by journalists showed black-clothed agitators leading the riot and calling for violence against police, the latest in a long line of unlawful outbursts targeting the university over its supposed financial ties to Israel.

Death to the police! Abolish the police,” one protester yelled at officers outdoors as they cleared others from the building, according to video footage shared by Cam Higby on X. “Every cop death is a victory for the resistance,” a protester can be heard shouting.

Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel (D.) on Monday dropped all charges against seven anti-Semitic protesters arrested last year at the University of Michigan, a move that shocked even the protesters’ lawyers.

Even though Nessel acknowledged that “based on the evidence, a reasonable jury would find the defendants guilty of the crimes alleged,” she said the case had devolved into a “circus-like atmosphere” following months of court delays and allegations of bias on her part, Detroit’s FOX2 reported. Nessel stood by her original decision to pursue felony and misdemeanor charges but said the proceedings were no longer a “prudent use of my department’s resources” and moved to dismiss the cases.

Nessel, who became Michigan’s attorney general in January 2019, has been no stranger to controversy.

A federal appeals court on May 5 rejected the Department of Homeland Security’s bid to stay a lower court ruling that blocked the termination of temporary legal status for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Haitians, and Cubans residing in the United States.

In a ruling, a three-judge panel on the First U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals stated that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem had not made “a strong showing” that her categorical termination of the immigrants’ temporary parole would likely be sustained on appeal.

The panel also stated that Noem has not demonstrated that the balance of harms and the public interest “weigh so heavily” to warrant a stay of the lower court order.

The decision follows U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani’s earlier ruling that blocked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from ending a Biden-era two-year parole program for immigrants from the four countries.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Monday in a memo that he wants to cut back on the number of four-star generals in the nation’s military in order to increase efficiency as well as cut bloat. He also vowed to cut back 20 percent of the top National Guard leadership.

He called many of the positions “redundant:”

Hegseth directed the Department of Defense to reduce its active component four-star military officers and general officers in the National Guard by at least 20% each, with a minimum 10% reduction of general and flag officers, according to the memo. The move is intended to improve efficiency and officer quality by removing “unnecessary bureaucratic layers that hinder their growth and effectiveness.”

“Through these measures, we will uphold our position as the most lethal fighting force in the world, achieving peace through strength and ensuring greater efficiency, innovation, and preparedness for any challenge that lies ahead,” Hegseth wrote in the memo.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) said he told the White House he would not support Ed Martin’s nomination to serve as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.

Tillis is a key vote on the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance Martin’s nomination to a full Senate vote.

“Most of my concerns related to January 6th,” Tillis said.

“If Mr. Martin were being put forth as a U.S. attorney for any district except the district where Jan. 6 happened, the protest happened, I’d probably support him. But not in this district,” Tillis continued.

“At this point, I’ve indicated to the White House I wouldn’t support his nomination,” he added.

WASHINGTON: The US trade deficit widened to a record high in March as businesses boosted imports of goods ahead of tariffs, which dragged gross domestic product into negative terrain in the first quarter for the first time in three years.

The trade gap jumped 14 per cent to a record US$140.5 billion from a revised US$123.2 billion in February, the Commerce Department’s Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) said on Tuesday (May 6).

Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the trade deficit rising to US$137.0 billion from the previously reported US$122.7 billion in February.

President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs, including raising duties on Chinese imports to a staggering 145 per cent, fueled a rush by businesses to bring in merchandise to avoid higher costs.

A right-wing Israeli minister says victory for Israel won’t come until Gaza is “entirely destroyed” and Palestinians are forced out into other countries.

Israeli Finance Minister Bazalel Smotrich made the statement during a Tuesday appearance at a conference on Jewish settlements in the West Bank. While Smotrich is a senior Israeli official, his statement does not represent the official policy of the Israeli government.

“Within a year we will be able to declare victory in Gaza,” he told attendees. “Gaza will be entirely destroyed, civilians will be sent to… the south to a humanitarian zone without Hamas or terrorism, and from there they will start to leave in great numbers to third countries,” Smotrich said, according to the Agence France-Presse.

“Israel does not intend to withdraw from territories the IDF captures, not even as part of a deal to release hostages,” he added.

Forgive them, for they know not what they do.

This admonition came to my mind this week as I was reminded of the devastation caused by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s decision to pull the plug on a decades-old program funding pregnancy care centers in the Keystone State.

Shapiro canceled the contract of Real Alternatives, an award-winning organization which admirably served pregnant women and their children throughout the Commonwealth.

For one pregnancy center that I am aware of, that meant a loss of $100,000.

Can you imagine how many women can be served with that amount of money? It is a significant loss, not only of treasure, but of service to the community.

The House unanimously passed a bill on May 5 aimed at ending Beijing’s persecution of the spiritual group Falun Gong.

The bill, the Falun Gong Protection Act (H.R.1540), passed with broad bipartisan support and includes provisions to sanction individuals implicated in the forced harvesting of organs of Falun Gong practitioners.

The sanctions would draw from a list of foreign nationals that the president would supply to the relevant congressional committee within 180 days of the bill’s enactment into the law. The prescribed penalties include a civil fine of $250,000 along with criminal punishment of up to $1 million and 20 years in prison.

The sanctions would block an offender from entering the United States, invalidate their visa, and stop any immigration benefits the individual might otherwise enjoy.

(Conservative Treehouse) — The Washington Post (but of course, CIA outlet) is reporting on a downsizing effort within the CIA to eliminate approximately 1,200 jobs. The number represents approximately 5 percent of the workforce, although the actual number of CIA employees is classified (national security, dontchaknow).

Within the report, Director John Ratcliffe is noted as shifting the focus of America’s leading spy agency to use more “human intelligence.” That phrase, “human intelligence,” is IC silo code speak for shifting away from “analysts” (political operatives) and engaging in more factual intelligence information.

According to the report, DNI Tulsi Gabbard has also reduced the employment level within the Director of National Intelligence office by approximately 25 percent (current payroll estimate of 2,000 employees). The general narrative within the WaPo reporting is that “national security” is being compromised by large downsizing of spy agency employment.

All U.S. federal funding destined for “dangerous” gain-of-function biological research in China, Iran and a host other countries was banned Monday via an executive order signed by President Donald Trump.

The move came as part of Trump’s call for improvements in the safety and security of biological research in the U.S. and globally.

The president has long championed the theory SARS-CoV-2 – more commonly known as coronavirus – leaked from the infamous Wuhan Institute of Virology in China as a combined result of gain-of-function research and poor security measures sparked a lab leak.
