The Food and Drug Administration has directed COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers to expand the warning for two forms of inflammation, according to letters made public on May 21.

The FDA told BioNTech, which produces a vaccine with Pfizer, and Moderna to update warnings regarding myocarditis—or heart inflammation—and the related condition pericarditis.

Richard Forshee, acting director of the FDA’s Office of Biostatistics and Pharmacovigilance, said that new information has emerged, including a 2024 FDA study that found some myocarditis patients had signs of heart scarring months after vaccination.

The companies must update labels to state that following administration of the 2023–24 versions, “the highest estimated incidence of myocarditis and/or pericarditis was in males 16 through 25 years of age,” Forshee said. The highest estimated incidence of the post-vaccination inflammation is about 38 cases per million doses for both vaccines, according to the proposed update.

The current warnings say the highest observed risk after Moderna vaccination is in males aged 18 to 24, and after Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination is in males aged 12 to 17.

House Republicans delivered on their promise to defund Big Abortion on Thursday by passing the budget reconciliation bill that has consumed Washington’s attention for the past three months.

In the bill, the House GOP removed Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, the largest provider of abortions in the country. The effort had been supported by dozens of pro-life legislators from around the country.

The move is a monumental win for pro-lifers because Planned Parenthood receives more than one-third of its overall funding from the U.S. government through grants, contracts, and Medicaid reimbursements. That translates to about $2 million per day, which taxpayers are on the hook for. Furthermore, taxpayer funding for the organization has been on an upward trajectory for about the past dozen years, having increased by 50% since 2013.

But the House reconciliation bill halts that trend by ending the flow of Medicaid dollars to Planned Parenthood, except in abortion cases for rape or incest. Planned Parenthood is also a major provider of hormones for so-called transgender transitions in the country, which means defunding it is also combating the organization’s efforts in that regard as well.

When I first came across Jonathan Chait’s new Atlantic piece, “Why the COVID Reckoning Is So One-Sided,” I assumed the answer would be that Democrats had been the ones relentlessly and tragically wrong about virtually everything during the pandemic.

No such luck.

In Chait’s telling, the left remains uncannily open-minded, always striving for truth, while the dogmatic right remains hopelessly bogged down in “pathological incuriosity.”

Even when conservatives are right, they’re right in the wrong way.

These days, people on the left, Chait contends, “have engaged in searching self-reflection — on school closings, the lab leak hypothesis, the political aftereffects, and other unanticipated lessons. Conservatives have used the occasion to engage in a round of self-congratulations and taunting of the libs.”

Now, you and I may believe dunking on libs who accused you of committing mass murder for going to church is perfectly normal behavior. Chait, though, is irked by all the “gloating” and “football-spiking.”
