U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff move against Canada, Mexico and China has sparked criticism and concern in Germany.

On Saturday, Trump ordered to impose a 25-percent tariff on imports from Mexico and Canada, and a 10-percent tariff on Chinese goods. He also signaled that the European Union (EU) could be next, citing the bloc’s persistent trade surplus with the U.S.

While reaffirming Germany’s commitment to economic ties with the U.S., German Chancellor Olaf Scholz emphasized that the first priority should be “not to divide up the world with many tariff barriers.”

China’s government on Sunday denounced the Trump administration’s imposition of a long-threatened 10 per cent tariff on Chinese imports while leaving the door open for talks with the U.S. that could avoid a deepening conflict.

Beijing will challenge President Donald Trump’s tariff at the World Trade Organization — a symbolic gesture — and take unspecified “countermeasures” in response to the levy, which takes effect on Tuesday, China’s finance and commerce ministries said.

That response stopped short of the immediate escalation that had marked China’s trade showdown with Trump in his first term as president and repeated the more measured language Beijing has used in recent weeks.

The current Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, is a WEF candidate who is seeking to turn Poland into a reduced vassal state obedient to the European Union. His efforts to undo Poland’s conservative culture and replace it with degenerate leftism have been held up by the current President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, a pro-Trump ally.

Now his handpicked successor, Karol Nawrocki, faces an uphill, but not insurmountable, battle with Donald Tusk’s far left ally, Rafal Trzaskowski, another self-hating Pole looking to destroy Poland’s sovereignty from within.

Should the far-left candidate win the election on May 18, 2025, Poland will rapidly accelerate its descent into far-left madness, an outcome that would harm American interests and aid Progmericans in their continued effort to undermine liberty at home and abroad for the sake of a global oligarchy that treats humans like raw resources.

…the presidential election in May will determine much of what happens this year in domestic politics, potentially impacting also the country’s standing on the international stage.

The polls indicate the most likely winner of the presidential election will be the current mayor of Warsaw, Rafal Trzaskowski, from Tusk’s Civic Platform (PO) party. Trzaskowski ran in 2020, but narrowly lost to Duda by only a few hundred thousand votes, a small difference in a country of 38 million.

The PiS contender, Karol Nawrocki, was handpicked by party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, though the 41-year-old is being presented to Polish voters as a non-partisan candidate. Nawrocki is known for having politicised the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk as well as the Institute of National Remembrance in Warsaw, which he currently heads. According to Polish media, he also has links to far-right activists, which might make him appealing to voters of Confederation (a far-right alliance) whom PiS would try to attract in any second round in the election.

While Nawrocki’s performance so far is regarded by many as dull, the PO camp remains wary of a surprise victory by Kaczynski’s man: back in 2015, the PiS-allied Duda – also not known for an abundance of charisma – came out of nowhere to defeat the incumbent Bronislaw Komorowski.

With the inclusion of Elon Musk to President Donald Trump’s cabinet, it is no surprise to this writer that Trump appears to be softening his position on China. Musk, whose company Tesla recently lobbied the EU to protect China’s EV industry from tariffs, has a vested interest in U.S.-China relations remaining good. The one fly in the ointment might be Trump’s aggressive push to get China out of the Panama canal.

So far, Trump has softened his position on tariffs, though he continues to threaten China if they fail to stop delivering fentanyl to Mexico they will face daunting tariffs. China sent their VP, Han Zheng, to the inauguration, but the VP also met with Elon Musk to work out a deal between the CCP and Musk’s EV company, Tesla, which operates factories in China and hopes to sell to the China market.

Hamas has announced plans to release the 8 remaining living hostages as part of the ceasefire deal made just before President Trump came to office. The President has called for other nations to take in the Palestinians, to “clean out” Gaza and allow the state of Israel to fully flourish. So far, nations such as Egypt and Jordan have made it clear the Palestinians are not welcome to their countries.

The state department has officially called for Hamas to NOT be given authority to rule in Gaza again. The President is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on February 5 at the White House.

President Donald Trump is looking to end the war in Ukraine, and he’s challenging Vladimir Putin to come to the negotiating table along with Ukraine and even China. Trump has frozen most support for Ukraine until it is fully reviewed. The move appears intended to incentivize Ukraine to come to the negotiating table.

So far, Putin has expressed interest in having talks with Trump, but he rejected calls by Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, to have unilateral talks with them. Zelensky responded to the reaction by claiming “Today, Putin once again confirmed that he is afraid of negotiations, afraid of strong leaders, and does everything possible to prolong the war.”

“I hereby state unequivocally that I do not recognize Justice Isaac Amit as the President of the Supreme Court, and the procedures through which he was ‘elected’ are fundamentally flawed and illegal,” he wrote.

Levin went on to say in a separate statement that Amit’s appointment happened amidst many allegations about his behavior in various cases that the justice minister believes were not correctly investigated.

The allegations against Amit included unreported court proceedings by the Tel Aviv Municipality against owners of a building in Tel Aviv, which included Amit and his brother; a series of cases that Amit oversaw that involved First International Bank of Israel and Dor Alon, even though his brother was involved in these companies at different points; alleged building infractions in Amit’s home in Mevaseret Zion; and a ruling regarding boards of directors of government companies that allegedly could have affected his brother.

Levin said that other senior officials had been removed from the pool of candidates for far less and called the appointment a “moral disgrace” that “reeks of selective enforcement” in the government.

Denmark has announced plans to increase its military presence in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions, an operation that will have a $2 billion annual budget.

Denmark’s Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said the move was made because, “There are serious challenges regarding security and defence in the Arctic and North Atlantic.” This follows comments by the country’s PM, Mette Frederiksen, calling for “European Unity.”

He stated, “Europe is facing a serious situation. With war on the continent and shifts in the geopolitical reality. In moments like this, unity is crucial. Denmark has unveiled plans to boost its military presence in the Arctic and North Atlantic region.

Copenhagen announced on Monday that it will pump an additional 14.6 billion Danish crowns ($2.05bn) into security. The announcement came as the European country resists demands from United States President Donald Trump to hand over control of Greenland.

“There are serious challenges regarding security and defence in the Arctic and North Atlantic,” Denmark’s Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said in a statement.

His announcement came as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen prepares to meet the leaders of France, Germany and NATO this week to shore up “European unity” on Greenland.

OTTAWA (LifeSiteNews) – Conservative Party of Canada leader Pierre Poilievre told a reporter that he is aware of “only two genders,” but he stopped short on promising a Conservative government would take action to stop the spread of extreme forms of gender ideology that claims there are many genders.

In an interview on CTV TV News on January 22, Poilievre said, “No, I’m not aware of any other genders than men and women.”

“I mean, if you have any other you want me to consider, you’re welcome to tell me right now,” he added.

His response came after the CTV reporter asked him if he would do something similar to what U.S. President Donald Trump did on his first day in office. Trump signed an Executive Order proclaiming that the policy of the United States is that there are only two sexes, male and female, as per biological reality.

The reporter pressed Poilievre on whether his future potential government would do something like President Trump did to recognize only two genders, man and woman.

Poilievre responded with a somewhat muddled answer, saying, “I’m only aware of two, but I mean if you have, if you come up with another list, then you’re welcome to do that.”

Tensions between Mexico and the U.S. are expected to escalate over the coming months as a Mexico’s Marxist President is confronted by an actual American President, as opposed to a leftist one (like Biden). Trump set the tone by officially renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America. The Mexican president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, responded by claiming all of America, producing a map labelling American territory as “Mexican America.” The move did little to ingratiate herself or Mexico with the American people.

Mexico’s efforts to undermine our constitution by suing gun manufacturers, by aiding and abetting invaders of our American republic, and now its bold claim of all of America are also setting the groundwork for a potential American invasion of Mexican territory as it continues to fail to stop the cartels from assaulting Americans. Trump has responded to this threat by declaring cartels terrorist organizations.

A California woman, Phoebe Dong, was sentenced on Monday to 41 months in federal prison for her role in operating a “birth tourism” scheme that assisted pregnant Chinese women in travelling to the United States to give birth, thereby securing American citizenship for their children. Dong and her husband, Michael Liu, were convicted in September of conspiracy and money laundering through their company, USA Happy Baby.
The sentencing comes amid heightened national attention on birthright citizenship, following President Donald Trump’s recent executive order aiming to narrow its definition—a move currently blocked by a federal judge.
Dong and Liu’s company reportedly assisted over 100 pregnant Chinese women between 2012 and 2015, charging up to $40,000 for services that included coaching on how to deceive US immigration authorities, such as advising clients to wear loose clothing to conceal pregnancies.

President Trump responded to Petro’s actions by announcing he would impose a series of sanctions and tariffs on Colombia. Petro responded to Trump by delivering one of his characteristically long, incoherent Twitter rants, which have become a common occurrence under his administration.

Rwanda-backed rebels claimed they captured eastern Congo’s largest city, Goma, early Monday, as the United Nations described a “mass panic” among its two million people and Congo’s government said the rebel advance was a “declaration of war.”

The M23 rebels announced the city’s capture in a statement minutes before a 48-hour deadline imposed by the group for the Congolese army to surrender their weapons expired.

In a statement, the rebels urged residents of Goma to remain calm and for members of the Congolese military to assemble at the central stadium.

The M23 rebels’ offensive in the heart of the mineral-rich region threatens to dramatically worsen one of Africa’s longest wars and further displace civilians. According to a UN report, over a third of the population of North Kivu province where Goma is located are currently displaced, and the capture of Goma will likely exacerbate the situation.

The United States has been the world’s biggest importer of Chinese lithium-ion batteries for the fifth year in a row, making up a quarter of China’s overall exports of more than $61 billion last year, Chinese customs data showed. The trade data was better than expected as the strong growth of battery energy storage systems more than offset the effects of the drop in electric vehicle battery exports, after the US government has imposed a 25% tariff on Chinese EV batteries since last September. China’s total export value declined by 6% year-on-year, with the industry grappling with a lithium price slump over the past two years, according to figures published by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) earlier this month. Still, China shipped more than 3.9 billion Li-ion batteries in 2024, which include those for EVs and energy storage systems, representing an increase of 8.1% from a year ago. [Caixin]

PANAMA – The Panama Canal, one of the world’s most important trade routes, has become a hot discussion item thanks to President Donald Trump. Much of that has to do with China’s growing influence in the region, and he’s making waves about America taking it back.

In his inaugural address, President Trump accused Panama of not honoring its agreements with the U.S.

“Panama’s promise to us has been broken,” he said. “The purpose of our deal and the spirit of our treaty has been totally violated. American ships are being severely overcharged and not treated fairly in any way, shape, or form. And that includes the United States Navy. And above all, China is operating the Panama Canal. And we didn’t give it to China. We gave it to Panama, and we’re taking it back.”

The U.S. helped to engineer and build the 50-mile waterway from 1904 to 1914. Then the U.S. controlled it from its opening in 1914 until 1979.
