Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said he was left “speechless” by a lawsuit from major airlines over a new rule requiring them to disclose added fees on purchases, a move conservatives argue will undermine consumer interests.

“We just issued a rule requiring airlines to inform you, before you buy a ticket, of fees they will charge you,” Buttigieg said Tuesday on X. “Now, the airline lobby is suing us, saying that if you have the right to that information it will ‘confuse’ you. For once, I am speechless.”

The Justice Department has said Boeing could face criminal prosecution because it did not live up to its word.

In 2021, Boeing signed an agreement that avoided criminal prosecution connected with two 737 MAX crashes in 2018 and 2019 that killed 346 people.

On Tuesday, the Justice Department wrote the judge responsible for overseeing the 2021 agreement that “the Government has determined that Boeing breached its obligations” under a deferred prosecution agreement  “by failing to design, implement, and enforce a compliance and ethics program to prevent and detect violations of the U.S. fraud laws throughout its operations.”

BREAKING: New York Appeals Court Decides to Uphold Judge Juan Merchan’s Gag Order

On Tuesday, a New York Appeals court dismissed President Trump’s appeal to lift Judge Juan Merchan’s gag order.

The appeals court stated that Judge Merchan “properly weighed” Trump’s First Amendment rights.

“We find that Justice Merchan properly weighed petitioner’s First Amendment Rights against the court’s historical commitment to ensuring the fair administration of justice in criminal cases, and the right of persons related or tangentially related to the criminal proceedings from being free from threats, intimidation, harassment, and harm,” as per the order.

The New York appeals court stated that Trump’s public statements threatened the integrity of witness testimony:

“Justice Merchan properly determined that petitioner’s public statements posed a significant threat to the integrity of the testimony of witnesses and potential witnesses in this case as well.”

The University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill revealed on Monday, May 13, plans to divert $2.3 million of funding originally designated to pay for DEI officers and programs. Instead, the funding will be used to beef up their campus police presence.

The move comes after Hamas supporters terrorized the university after the Gaza War broke out. This is the same school where fraternity brothers went viral for protecting an American flag from Hamas activists.

Judge Adena Darkeh gave Brooklyn resident Dexter Taylor 10 years for building his own gun in a trial that saw the judge bar Taylor from using the 2nd Amendment as a defense. Darkeh stated at the beginning of the trial, “Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.”

Judge Abena Darkeh sentenced Dexter Taylor, a Brooklyn software engineer, to ten years in prison for building firearms in his apartment. Officials labeled them as “ghost guns.”

… From RedState:

The judge disrupted [Taylor defense attorney Vinoo] Varghese’s opening statement multiple times as he tried to set the stage for Taylor’s defense. Even further, she admonished the defense to refrain from mentioning the Second Amendment during the trial. Varghese told RedState:

She told us, ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.’

Varghese said he had filed the appropriate paperwork to “preserve these arguments for appeal” but that the judge “rejected these arguments, and she went out of her way to limit me.”

The growing list of Pro-Life activists behind bars under the direct action of President Joe Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) now includes 30-year-old Lauren Handy, who was arrested after peacefully protesting in front of an unborn child murder center. She is a member of Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly sentenced a pro-life activist on Tuesday to 57 months in prison and three years supervision for her participation in a peaceful pro-life protest at one the capital city’s most controversial abortion facilities.

Lauren Handy, 30, was one of several members of the Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU), a primarily leftist organization with a pro-life streak, who initiated a “rescue and protest” at late-term abortionist Cesare Santangelo’s Washington, D.C., facility in October 2020.

“Some simply kneeled and prayed at Santangelo’s facility, some passed out pro-life literature and counseled abortion-minded women, and others roped and chained themselves together inside the facility,” Handy’s lawyers at the Thomas More Society noted.

Handy, PAAU’s director of Activism and Mutual Aid, decided to protest at Santangelo’s facility in particular after she heard him admit on an undercover video that he “would not help” a baby born alive after a botched abortion.

“My belief that was formed after watching the video was if the fetus survived the abortion attempt, they were left to die,” Handy told the court during witness testimony.

According to the American Medical Association (AMA), almost 90 percent of American adults suffer from a newly defined heart disease called Cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic (CKM) syndrome. An explanation for why the new definition was issued and how 90 percent of Americans suffer from it was not forthcoming.

Health experts are redefining cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk, prevention and management, according to a new American Heart Association presidential advisory published today in the Association’s flagship journal Circulation…

The risks are greatest among older adults, men, and Black individuals, the report, which was published in JAMA Wednesday, found.

The American Heart Association (AHA) introduced a new staging system in 2023 — called CKM syndrome — to better treat and manage cardiovascular, kidney, and metabolic diseases, since they are deeply connected and often require a multidisciplinary approach.

Via Journal of the American Medical Association (emphasis added):

Almost 90% of US adults met criteria for CKM syndrome (stage 1 or higher) and 15% met criteria for advanced stages, neither of which improved between 2011 and 2020. The lack of progress, in part, may reflect concomitant improvement and worsening of different risk factors over time. Substantial between-subgroup differences in advanced stages were observed, with older age, men, and Black adults at increased risk.”

The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) premier automaker, BYD, is selling a $12,000 Electric Vehicle (EV) that “could be a nightmare” for the United States auto industry without an all-out ban or steeper tariffs on such cars made by Chinese companies.

A report from the Detroit News, which interviewed several industry insiders, details the impact that BYD’s all-electric Seagull — which sells for just $12,000 in China and about $21,000 in Latin America — may have on American auto workers without fierce trade protections.

Currently, former President Donald Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on China-made cars are the only reason BYD and other Chinese automakers have not flooded the U.S. market with cheap EVs to sell to American consumers.

“On the advertising front,” Zaslav continued, “total company ad sales were down 7% in the quarter.”

Michael Cohen’s Testimony Gets Off To A Rough Start

Deputies to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg began the quizzing with relatively innocuous questions about Cohen’s work history with Trump, who allegedly paid him $525,000 annually toward the end of the 2016 election. Cohen has maintained that he personally paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels, an adult film star who testified last week, to silence her from speaking with reporters about a tryst with Trump more than a decade ago…

Cohen further stepped on the prosecution’s case when he described the atmosphere of his former workplace. Working for Trump, “was fantastic… working for him of those 10 years was an amazing experience… there were great times, there were less than great times, but for the most part, I enjoyed the responsibilities given to me,” he testified.

A recent paper from the Massachusetts Institution of Technology (MIT) suggests Artificial Intelligence (AI) is learning how to use various forms of deception to achieve the goals they were programmed to complete.

Peter S. Park, the paper’s author, said of the paper, ‘Generally speaking, we think AI deception arises because a deception-based strategy turned out to be the best way to perform well at the given AI’s training task. Deception helps them achieve their goals.”

The board at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill voted to cut funding from diversity, equity, and inclusion programs and instead divert the funds to increase public safety.

If approved by the full board, the decision would move $2.3 million to help police the campus.

“It’s important to consider the needs of all 30,000 students, not just the 100 or so that may want to disrupt the university’s operations,” said budget committee vice-chair Marty Kotis. “It takes away resources for others.”

‘I don’t think it gives a return on investment to taxpayers.’

He also said that the funds needed to be funneled to police in order to provide enough security to protect students and faculty.

“They do not have all the tools they need right now to keep this campus safe from a larger threat,” Kotis said about the police.

A woman at the Central California Facility for Women says she witnessed the immediate aftermath of a jailhouse rape by a transgender inmate.

Mimi Le provided a sworn declaration to lawyers with the Women’s Liberation Front, which will be included in the organization’s case against California, according to evidence from the filing obtained by Reduxx.

Le reportedly said she was one of many inmates who saw events involving what was described as a “sexual assault” committed by a man who identifies as a woman and was therefore locked up in a women’s prison.

On May 19, a female inmate was taken to a medical-administrative building after other female inmates reported to staff that she had been raped, Le explained, adding that she found the woman to be “barely conscious.”

Advocacy groups say schools must do more to protect staff from antisemitism

A Jewish administrator has a new home at a Catholic college after she says a “hate-filled” backlash drove her from job at Clark University

Mary Jane Rein recently resigned as executive director of the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the Massachusetts college, citing “unruly and hate-filled” backlash to her Jewish advocacy work and a lack of support from Clark’s administrators.

Now, she works at Assumption College, a Catholic institution, where she said she feels more welcome.

A Jewish advocacy organization predicted more colleges will lose valued scholars like Rein unless they do more to stop antisemitism.

Over the weekend, a Louisiana church that was filled with families and small children got a shock as a teenager dressed all in black entered the building during a first communion mass armed with a rifle.

Luckily, the parishioners acted quickly and piled on top of the would-be shooter, stopping him in his tracks.

This is an excellent reminder that people have to be aware, be vigilant, and act quickly at the first signs of trouble.

RedState has more details:

Terrifying Moments: Teenager With Gun Stopped at First Communion Mass in Louisiana

The folks at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville, Louisiana, were having a First Communion mass for about 60 kids on Saturday. They likely thought that they were going to have a beautiful celebration together.

But unfortunately, they also had some scary moments that intruded on the solemnity of the day. As the priest Fr. Nicholas Duper was on the altar, at about 48 minutes in, you can see a man come up to the altar, bend over, and whisper in his ear. That is certainly not a usual occurrence during a Catholic mass. You can see the priest absorbing something, and then he suddenly asks the parishioners to sit and to pray, as he starts to say a “Hail Mary.”…

George Mason University has at least 87 staffers working on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, according to an analysis by The College Fix. To put that in perspective, there are 59 full-time history and art history professors employed at the school.

Of the 87 DEI posts, it’s a mix of employees and students with full-time or part-time positions working to advance DEI in some capacity, and most of those positions appear to be paid and full-time, the analysis found.

The roles include vice president for DEI and chief diversity officer, director of the Center for Culture, Equity and Empowerment, and director of faculty diversity, inclusion and well-being.

Columbia University, the University of Southern California, Pomona College, and Emory University, among others, recently canceled or modified their commencement ceremonies due to safety concerns after raucous pro-Palestinian protests on campus.

Other recent graduation ceremonies have been disrupted by protesters, including at Duke University, Virginia Commonwealth University, UC Berkeley, Emerson College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Axios reported.

A court in Germany ruled on Monday, May 13th that the anti-globalist, anti-immigration party Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) can be designated as a “suspected extremist organisation.” This means that the domestic intelligence agency, Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV), has the right to spy on the party, using such intelligence tools as phone tapping, intercepting emails, or recruiting informants from inside the party.

In its verdict, the court said “there is sufficient evidence that the AfD pursues goals that run against the human dignity of certain groups and against democracy.” The judges added: “There are grounds to suspect at least part of the party wants to accord second-rank status to German citizens with a migration background.” Interior Minister Nancy Faeser welcomed the ruling as showing that the “state has instruments that protect our democracy from threats from within.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) — Heather Idoni, 59, who had a stroke two weeks ago, disclosed to LifeSiteNews that she is a victim of gross medical neglect at the D.C. jail, which has failed to administer essential medication for her heart while falsifying her medical record as she awaits sentencing next week for taking part in a traditional pro-life rescue.

Idoni said she received three stints above her heart for three major arteries. While she was prescribed several medications, some of which she has been given, she has been denied one essential medication prescribed by the doctor to be taken once a day to lower her blood pressure.

“It’s just the metoprolol that I’ve had a difficult time with,” she said. “I haven’t even been given one dose.”
