Senate Democrats are reportedly thwarting Republicans’ efforts to hold a confirmation hearing for Donald Trump’s Director of National Intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard on an expedited basis.

Axios reported, based on multiple unnamed sources, that Democratic Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, is balking at the idea of holding a hearing for Gabbard early next week.

“Warner has pointed out that the committee has not yet received Gabbard’s FBI background check, ethics disclosure or a pre-hearing questionnaire, a source familiar with the matter told us. Committee rules require the background check a week in advance of a hearing,” the news outlet said.

However, a source working with Gabbard told Axios that she completed her background check process last week and has an active security clearance.

Further, she submitted an initial pre-hearing questionnaire already and will have a second one in on time by a Thursday deadline, the source said.

It is clear now, however, that Trump himself is not laughing, and never has been. He is deadly serious, not just about Greenland, but about the Panama Canal, as well as, most likely, about Canada. When questioned on Tuesday about his designs on Greenland, Trump offered two reasons for why he thought it was in America’s interest to obtain the territory and even threatened Denmark if it didn’t comply.

Trump said that the U.S. needed Greenland as a matter of national security:

Justice Department officials submitted a new court filing on Monday alleging that New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams was involved in criminal behavior that extends beyond their initial indictment made last fall.

The motion said that prosecutors have new evidence, but did not explicitly indicate what that information revealed, according to a report from Politico.

“Although the indictment and discovery provide Adams with more than sufficient information as to his alleged co-conspirators and aiders and abettors, law enforcement has continued to identify additional individuals involved in Adams’s conduct, and to uncover additional criminal conduct by Adams,” Edward Kim, the acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, wrote in the filing.

Kim added that providing a specific list of evidence, called a bill of particulars, to Adams’s legal team would create a situation in which Adams could attempt to tamper with witnesses.

“The Indictment provides ample cause to believe that as potential witnesses became known to Adams and his allies, measures were taken to influence their testimony,” Kim continued.

A former Concerned Veterans for America (CVA) employee is privately helping Senate Democrats solicit hostile testimony about her former boss, Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to be the country’s next defense secretary.

The former employee, Kat Dugan, worked at CVA for eight months while Hegseth served as CEO of the organization, and has sent messages to former CVA colleagues urging them to contact the Senate Armed Services Committee and assuring them they can do so anonymously. She has also provided closed-door testimony to the committee, according to correspondence obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

Dugan, formerly Kathleen Volandt, received a poor performance review in 2014 when she was serving as CVA’s North Carolina state director. Shortly thereafter, she filed for short-term disability, then long-term disability, and ultimately tendered her resignation in December 2014. Shawn Pattison, who served as CVA’s national field director at the time, told the Free Beacon that Dugan “consistently fell short of performance expectations.” A copy of her performance review reviewed by the Free Beacon substantiates that assessment.
