Polanski defends leadership of Greens and says he will not step down after byelection defeat by Labour – UK politics live | Politics– www.theguardian.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
Under Green party rules, leaders have to get re-elected every two years, which means there will be a contest next summer. Asked how confident he was of being able to win again, Polanski told Sky News:
What I’m experiencing is the immense amount of people who are saying they’ve never been prouder to be a Green party member.
It is being difficult being leader of any party, particularly the Green party or a decentralised party.
Very often the media – and I think this is fine that they do that – talk about the Green -arty as if we’re like the other parties. But that is a different kind of party. We’re led by the grassroots and ultimately the leader is partly a primary spokesperson for the party. That is difficult. But I signed up for that difficult job, and I’m more than ready to continue.
Asked if he would stand again to be an MP, he replied:
I want to be an MP. I don’t think it’s the be all and end all. I think I’ve demonstrated over the last year that you can create change from outside of parliament.
But, if another seat came up in London where he had a connection, he would stand again, he said.
Key events
Back to the byelection, and the politics professor Rob Ford has written an analysis of the results for Sky News. Here is an excerpt.
This was a strong performance for Labour on several metrics. The decline in Labour’s vote share, at just 3.7 points, was well below the average drop of 19.3 points across the four by-elections during Starmer’s premiership, where Burnham was not on the ballot.
The drop here was indeed smaller than the average drop in Labour support found during Tony Blair’s first term (11.1%).
The Labour to Green swing, at 13.1 points, was well below many of the swings the Greens achieved in the 2024 general election and this May’s local elections, and a pale shadow of the 26.5-point swing the party achieved in Gorton and Denton in February.
Burnham unveils £48m partnership in bid to ‘defeat’ dementia
Andy Burnham has pledged to make dementia research a national priority as he announced a £48m industry partnership to accelerate the search for a cure, the Press Association reports. PA says:
The prime minister, whose father Roy died last month after suffering from Alzheimer’s, said he wanted Britain “to be the country that makes the breakthrough”.
The government will invest £33m, and there is also funding from Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK and Gates Ventures to help recruit more people for clinical studies.
The investment will support The Barbara Alliance, which was launched in memory of the late EastEnders actress Dame Barbara Windsor to speed up the development of dementia treatments.
It will establish a platform connecting health data, research and clinical trial capabilities to make it easier to find participants for trials.
Burnham said:
Dementia is a devastatingly cruel disease, not only for those who live with it, but for the families who care for them.
For too long, we have accepted dementia as something to be managed later in life, rather than a disease we can defeat.
I don’t accept that.
In fact, I have real hope that we can come together and do exactly that.
Downing Street has published further details here.
Caroline Lucas says Green party urgently needs to revise its policy-making rules because it’s ‘woefully exposed’ to entryism
Caroline Lucas, the former Green leader, has said that Sunday’s vote for the “Zionism is racism” motion has shown how the party is “woefully exposed” to entryism.
In an article for the New Statesman, she said passing the motion crossed “a very significant red line” and she said the party urgently needed to reform its internal procedures to stop this happening again.
She explained:
It’s worth recalling that this motion was supported by 1,022 self-selected members – just 0.5% of the party’s total membership – an unknown number of whom were actively encouraged to join the Green party simply to vote to push the motion through. This speaks volumes about the vulnerability of our internal structures. Entryism has been a problem for many parties, but with our commitment to direct democracy and our cumbersome internal accountability mechanisms, the Greens are woefully exposed.
In the weeks and months to come, we Greens have urgent work to do: taking action to show everyone in our communities, especially Jewish people, that our party is safe for them; finding ways of making our party’s policy making processes more inclusive and effective, our internal structures more accountable and resilient, and our understanding of both antisemitism and Zionism more informed.
Setting out what she saw as the flaw in the motion, Lucas said:
One of the most dangerous outcomes of rising populism and polarisation is a refusal to accept complexities, to deal only in zero-sum binaries. And so the radical over-simplification at the heart of the “Zionism is racism” motion has led to many Jewish people, both inside and outside the party, feeling scared and unwelcome. For many of them, the knowledge about why their ancestors or families fled Europe and sought sanctuary in Palestine can, and often does, simultaneously sit alongside their utter abhorrence at the actions and ideology of the state of Israel now. But asking all Jewish people to deny the historical realities that might explain their own families’ attachment to Israel as a sanctuary is not an ask our movement should or needs to make.
In his speech in Manchester, Andy Burnham congratulated Sagal Abdi-Wali on her victory in the byelection.
He said:
We’re here in Manchester. But actually, it’s good news from London that it’s lifting us. And I just wanted to say congratulations to Sagal Abdi-Wali, the new member of parliament for Holborn and St Pancras – and, relevant to this morning, the constituency that is the capital of innovation in the UK, home to the Crick Institute, the Alan Turing Institute and so much more.
These are from the More in Common pollster Luke Tryl on the Holborn and St Pancras byelection result.
3000+ majority for Labour, comfortable and a sign of Burnham’s gains on the left. Labour vote barely drops. Green vote significantly up from 2024, but less impressive if you assume lots of Feinstein 2024 voters went to the Greens. Bad result for the Greens but not at worst end
Wider context to the Holborn result: this chart shows the proportion of Labour’s 2024 vote going to different parties. Post Gorton over 1 in 10 Labour 24 voters were going to the Greens – that number has more than halved as Labour’s retention improved, particularly on the left.
Tryl also points out that it was a record bad result for George Galloway, who in the past has pulled off two remarkable byelection victories.
Obviously not helped by the fact he is in self imposed exile. But Holborn was George Galloway’s worst ever result in a Westminster election.
Here is Guardian video of Zack Polanski responding to the byelection result.
Party leaders sometimes visit the constituency after a byelection win. Andy Burnham is giving a speech this morning – but not in Holborn and St Pancras. He is in Manchester, where he is giving a speech at the Innovation Nation summit.
Burnham is speaking now, and he is following the former PM Gordon Brown. Brown said the UK could be a leading innovation nation, and Burnham started his speech with what he said were words that he used every week when he was a cabinet minister almost 20 years ago. “Gordon is right,” he said.
Polanski says he wants Green party to revise its Zionism motion ‘at earliest opportunity’
Jenny Jones, the Green party peer, said that the Greens should clarify what they meant by the “Zionism is racism” motion passed at their conference.
Describing the vote “a rather big blip” for the party in an interview on Times Radio, she said:
I actually chaired the session and I was astonished. It was very emotional, but it was also relatively polite, which was surprising.
And I would like to see it reorganised. It is not clear exactly what we mean.
Zack has been working with Jewish members of the party and with Jewish organisations to make it clear that we are not antisemitic.
And nobody in the party will be disciplined for going to the synagogue or any sort of community centre.
We have to work through it and we’ve got to make it clear exactly what that motion means.
In his Today interview, Polanski also said that he would like the party to revise the motion. He said:
At the earliest possible opportunity, I do want, at a conference motion, to see us go back to a process where Israelis and Palestinians decide the future of their region.
Now, that’s up to members because we’re a grassroots party.
Polanski declines to say Israel has right to exist, but insists he does not back replacing it with single Palestinian state
On the Today programme (see 9.12am) Zack Polanski was being interviewed by Nick Robinson. At times, it got rather tetchy.
When Robinson asked about Caroline Lucas saying that Polanski should have voted in the debate on the “Zionism is racism” motion (see 2.55am), Polanski said he was fighting a byelection. Robinson then told him not to “insult the intelligence of people listening” and said that of course he could have been at the debate. Polanski said he had in fact pushed to get the conference postponed.
Asked how he would have voted if he had been there, Polanski said he wanted to amend the motion on two grounds. But those amendments fell. “And so I would have voted against the motion,” he said.
Polanski backed taking out the reference in the motion saying there should be a one-state solution, and another amendment that would have ensured Jewish Green members were not penalised for belonging to synagogues that identify as Zionist.
Asked if he believed there should be “a safe home for Jews in a state called Israel”, Polanski replied:
I believe everyone deserves a safe home, and I’ve not dodged the question.
When Robinson asked again if Israel had a right to exist, Polanski said:
I believe Israelis and Palestinians should have equal rights in a democracy …
Right now, Israel is a one-state, apartheid state. Palestinians don’t have democracy and they don’t have the right to vote for their government.
Robinson asked why Polanski was not able to say he believed in Israel as a safe home for Jewish people, even if he loathed what its government was doing. Polanski replied:
I don’t believe that any state has a right to oppress or to commit apartheid, and certainly not genocide, on another people.
Now, it may be that in the future that there is a solution in which case Israelis and Palestinians can have equal rights.
I believe my role as leader of the Green party, and more importantly the British government, is to uphold international law.
But this is a context where we’ve seen 75,000 Palestinians murdered in the last few years, 1,500 murdered since the so-called ceasefire, and there are more child amputees than in modern history.
I don’t believe that’s a state that anyone should be supporting.
Robinson asked about the distinction between the Israeli government and the Israeli state. Was Polanski saying things were so terrible the state of Israel should no longer exist? Robinson said the motion passed at the Green conference implied this because it proposed a single Palestinian state. Did Polanski want to scrap the state of Israel?
Polanski replied:
No. What I want is to see a safe space for Israelis and Palestinians. And by the way, this isn’t a new position. We could go back to Edward Montagu, a Jewish man who was in the cabinet, who said at the time that he felt Zionism was a racist endeavour against Jewish people …
Jewish people have always had different opinions about the state of Israel.
Robinson intervened:
I still don’t know what your position is, whether it has a right to exist or not. You could just give me a yes/no and we could move on.
Polanski said he wanted to equal rights for Israeli and Palestinians. Robinson said that was not an answer to the question. Polanski replied: “At the moment Palestinians don’t have equal rights, so I think I’m answering your question really clearly.”
And Andy Burnham has posted this message on the result.
Yesterday, Holborn and St Pancras voted for hope.
Congratulations @Sagal_AW and the whole team on a fantastic campaign. Looking forward to working together!
Keir Starmer, the former PM, has posted this on social media about Sagal Abdi-Wali winning the byelection created by his resignation as MP for Holborn and St Pancras.
Brilliant result. Congratulations to my friend @Sagal_AW, I know you are a brilliant champion for our communities and will be a fantastic MP.
Polanski says Green party investigating member proposing Zionism motion over friendship with convicted terrorist
In an interview on the Today programme, Zack Polanski was asked about reports that Lubna Speitan, one of the Green party members proposing the “Zionism is racism” motion, was listed in court documents as a “close friend” of a man later jailed for supporting al-Qaeda.
Polanski said that he was not aware of this at the time of the debate. But he said this was now being investigated by the party.
When it was put to him that, given the importance of this motion, he should have looked who was proposing it more carefully, Polanski said there were 121 motions proposed at the conference.
Asked about her friendship with Minh Quang Pham, who denied planning a suicide attack, Speitan told the Telegraph: “People are demonised for all sorts of things and wrongfully accused of all sorts of things.” She also claimed she was the victim of a “character assassination”.
Here is an extract from Prof Sir John Curtice’s assessment of the Holborn and St Pancras byelection in an article for the Times.
With 45 per cent of the vote, Labour was much further ahead of the Greens, on 33 per cent, than they had been in May. Yet, Labour’s tally was still four points down on the 49 per cent Sir Keir won in 2024 — a figure that, as in many constituencies with a substantial Muslim population, was well down on the 66 per cent the party won locally in 2019.
In short, the result confirmed that, while it is enjoying a substantial recovery from the nadir to which the party fell in the final months of Sir Keir’s tenure, Labour still has significant ground left to recover before it is in a position where it might win another Commons majority.
Curtice also points out that the results confirm that Restore Britain is a problem for Reform UK. (See 6.15am.) The Conservative party came third, but Reform UK would beaten the Tories if its candidate had also had just half the votes that went to Restore.
Here is a Guardian graphic showing how the share of the vote changed in the Holborn and St Pancras byelection since the 2024 election.
And this is what Bridget Phillipson, the Labour party chair, told Times Radio about the byelection result.
I think it demonstrates that Labour’s message of hope is really cutting through, that people don’t just want parties like Labour to talk about the progressive change this country needs but they want to see it delivered in action, and that’s what we’re focused on every day as a Labour government.
The things that really matter to people about the cost of living, about issues around homelessness as Sagal [Abdi-Wali] was talking about.
In Sagal we had a fantastic candidate who really resonated with the public, backed up by Labour’s clear message of hope and I couldn’t be more pleased.
Bridget Phillipson, the Labour party chair, told Sky News that the Holborn and St Pancras byelection result showed that Andy Burnham had “got off to an incredibly strong start” as PM.
The Cornell Seven won’t ‘get a fair shake,’ Trump says– www.latimes.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
Believe women.
The message should have been codified during the #MeToo 2010s after decades, if not centuries, of women reporting sexual assaults and authorities doing little to nothing to help them. Tangible proof of change was everywhere: Bill Cosby fell from grace. Harvey Weinstein wound up in jail. And though it took awhile, the Tate brothers are finally behind bars.
Institutions would finally take claims of rape seriously, and young men would have a better understanding of consent and the consequences. Or not.
Last month, a former Cornell University student identified only as Jane Doe sued seven fraternity brothers and the university, claiming the school failed to protect her and punish the perpetrators. Doe says she was plied with drugs and alcohol and gang-raped by the men during a party at the Chi Phi fraternity house in 2024. Cornell conducted an internal investigation and suspended or expelled some of the men, but prosecutors did not bring criminal charges against any of the accused.
There’s no point asking how we got back here, when President Trump himself is proof that some folks never budged in the first place.
Trump said Friday that the accused men “won’t get a fair shake,” in response to a reporter’s questions about the case and the appointment of a special prosecutor, Letitia James. In painting the accused as victims, it appeared the president was speaking from personal experience.
Trump was found liable in 2023 for sexual abuse and battery in a lawsuit filed by the writer E. Jean Carroll. She said that in a dressing room in a high-end department store in 1995 or 1996, Trump pushed her against a wall, pulled down her tights and sexually assaulted and penetrated her before she was able to flee. In the civil trial, Carroll said that the assault made her “unable to have a romantic life again.” She was awarded $5 million in damages. Trump still denies all wrongdoing, calling the allegations a “hoax” and the rulings politically motivated.
In 2005, when he was a reality TV host, Trump bragged on a hot mic about sexually assaulting women in his now infamous “Grab ‘em by the pussy” boast. He promptly apologized when the recording was leaked before the 2016 election, only to walk it back after he won, suggesting the recording was a deepfake (it was not).
And he expressed more than one well wish for Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime companion, after her arrest on a multitude of sex-related charges in 2020.
James, the New York state attorney general, will lead a criminal investigation into the Cornell Seven case after public backlash over the local district attorney declining to pursue charges. She won a $454-million judgment against Trump in 2024, with a judge finding that his businesses defrauded lenders by inflating assets. The financial penalty was later ruled “excessive” and wiped out, but the finding of business fraud still stands.
Is it any wonder that Trump is siding with the men in the Cornell case?
And now, a second independent investigator has been brought on by a Cornell committee to look into the university’s conduct. She is former federal prosecutor Sally Yates, who famously served as acting U.S. attorney general for 10 days in 2017, until Trump fired her for refusing to defend his administration’s travel ban (aka the “Muslim ban”).
The Cornell Seven became a national story when in September, Doe filed a 101-page lawsuit alleging that during the frat party, multiple men gave her alcohol and ketamine, then repeatedly sexually assaulted her. One of the men allegedly sent a message to a 50-person Snapchat group alerting his frat brothers that a woman was available for sex.
All of the Cornell Seven have denied wrongdoing.
Doe’s complaint alleges that the university only temporarily suspended some of the men and that others “were afforded the opportunity to mitigate their conduct by submitting essays.” Cornell denies that this was the only punishment it handed down. The New York Times reported Tuesday that two of the fraternity brothers were expelled, two more were suspended, and one who had already graduated was barred from campus. The remaining men were handed lighter punishments.
Considering Trump’s track record of demonizing powerful women, there’s little doubt that the appointment of James by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, and the addition of Yates, will aid in his politicization of the Cornell Seven case. But the public outcry against the university and the accused men speaks volumes about how out of step the president is with many Americans who are willing to stand by a woman’s claim of rape until proved otherwise.
Holding signs that read “Justice for Jane Doe,” Cornell students staged a sit-in Wednesday and vowed to not spend any money on campus, in a statement against sexual violence and how the university has handled her case. It was one of many acts of protest by Cornell students. Over 60,000 alumni and supporters of the university also signed a petition pledging to withhold donations until Cornell meets their demands for transparency and reform in cases of sexual assaults.
They represent a familiar refrain: Believe women.

James Talarico’s Woke Insanity Claims The Bible Supports Killing Babies in Abortions– www.lifenews.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
U.S. Senate candidate for Texas James Talarico had just begun voicing regret over his past statements that there are six genders, that men should play in women’s sports, and that “God is nonbinary.” Then Talarico’s lesbian “minister” was caught on camera with an entirely different spin, telling an undercover journalist that his newfound moderation is all a lie to get more votes.
Texas voters are right to be concerned that his campaign’s “Christian” packaging is false advertising. So, let’s check his record.
Talarico made his name as the progressive “Christian” alternative to Republican Ken Paxton, the current Texas attorney general, who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump.
As a member of the Texas House of Representatives, Talarico voted against SB 14, the law protecting minors from mutilating gender surgeries and sterilizing puberty blockers. Now he claims he only opposed certain parts of the bill and wanted to see amendments before he could vote for it.
His record on women’s sports tells the same story. In 2021, Talarico voted against HB 25, the Texas law requiring student athletes in public schools to compete on teams that match their biological sex. Back then, he didn’t talk about amendments. He told his colleagues, “You can’t compromise with hate,” and argued that “some things are more important than perfectly fair competition in sports.”
Now that he’s running statewide, Talarico says he will oppose trans athletes playing in girls’ sports “if it risks safety or fairness.” That little word “if” is doing a lot of work. It means Talarico reserves the right to decide when it’s “fair” and “safe” for a boy to compete against girls and share their locker room, and in those cases, he’s fine with it.
But here’s the truth: it is always unfair for men to play against women, and men in women’s sports always endanger women.
God made us male and female, equally loved, differently formed. No amount of political denial of that reality changes the reality God created, nor the level of hurt women will face because of transgender ideology. To deny our natural state, made in God’s image, is to deny God Himself.
Talarico’s disconnection from reality — and from Biblical principles — goes beyond the gender issue to the most basic right we all have: life.
Talarico has claimed that abortion and gay marriage are mentioned nowhere in the Bible. This is an embarrassingly debunkable statement, one that we at Students for Life Action (SFLAction) exposed months ago with the copious Bible verses defining humans as male and female, husband and wife, and revealing God’s intention for our lives before we are even in the womb.
While Talarico does not seem committed to what Scripture actually says, many who attend church do care.
That’s why our student leaders went to Talarico’s own church, stood outside, and left flyers on the cars of the worshippers inside. It was the first stop in our campaign to reach more than 100 churches, reminding the faithful of Biblical truth: Life begins at conception, God abhors murder, and He made every one of us in His image, male and female.
Certainly, Talarico’s radical theology is an effort to cut into the pro-life, pro-faith voters who consistently vote Republican. As ABC News noted, many Democrats are trying to reclaim the faith conversation for their political ambitions.
But we’ve seen this before. After values voters helped decide the 2004 election, Democrats turned to progressive activist Rev. Jim Wallis. He wrote a bestselling book, God’s Politics, took it on a national tour, and went to Capitol Hill teaching Democrats how to talk to Christians and campaign for their votes.
More than 20 years later, Democrats still can’t figure it out, because they aren’t true believers. Even Wallis admitted at the time, “It’s so transparent when somebody is being inauthentic about religion.” Talarico is just the 2026 version of a decades-old Democratic problem. And it’s hard to reclaim the faith conversation when your apologetics are about explaining why the Bible doesn’t mean what it says.
The race is tight. And as Talarico has struggled under the weight of his past lunacy, notice where he went to clean it up. He didn’t go to MSNOW or The Nation, the Leftist outlets his base trusts. He went to Fox News to tell conservative voters not to believe what they have heard him say in interview clips.
Meanwhile, in far-Left circles, he is actively working to appeal to radical pro-abortion, pro-child-mutilation socialists by repeating their messaging. He recently went viral talking about his favorite drag queen. And in a private Zoom call with the far-Left Austin Sierra Club, Talarico spoke of dismantling capitalism, climate change doomerism, and our country being one of white supremacy and billionaire-contrived class warfare, reports Townhall.
This is not a genuine change of heart; it’s voter-segmented packaging, built on the hope that liberals won’t watch Fox and conservatives will believe he doesn’t really mean what he says.
Jesus cares about truth. In John 14:6, we read: “Jesus said…, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”
Talarico can’t even agree on that, saying all faiths are “equal pathways to truth.”
So, to answer the New York Times question, “Can James Talarico Reclaim Christianity for the Left?” the answer is no. Telling people that God doesn’t mean what He says is the oldest trick in Scripture. It started in the Garden, with a serpent asking Eve, “Did God really say…?”
Christian voters should not be fooled. Talarico is a radical leftist who is saying whatever gets him elected. His own people don’t even buy what he is selling to voters.
White House Denies Trump Suggested Iran Should “Take Out” US Cities– www.ndtv.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
The White House pushed back Tuesday after Democrats accused President Donald Trump of suggesting Iran should “take out” the major US cities of Los Angeles and San Diego.
Viral footage showed comments by Trump at a midterm elections rally in Nebraska on Monday, where he said high oil prices from the Iran war were justified by the need to stop Tehran getting nuclear weapons.
“It’s a little bit high. It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,” Trump said.
“They can take out a city. Let them take, let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon.”
Democrats — who control the state of California where both Los Angeles and San Diego are located — accused the 80-year-old Republican president of encouraging Iran to hit the two urban centers.
“Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said on X.
“The nuclear annihilation of an American city is no laughing matter,” Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic minority leader in the US House of Representatives, said on X.
But the White House insisted Trump was talking about the threat posed by Iran, branding it a “media freakout” that was “not rooted in reality.”
“He was clearly stating US cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn’t been stopped,” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung said on X.
The White House’s Rapid Response account on X took issue with a Los Angeles Times headline saying Trump had suggested “letting Iran ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego.”
“No, he didn’t, you buffoons. He was saying the US is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance,” it said.
Trump is hitting the road in the last month before the midterms amid Republican fears that voter anger over the Iran war and high prices could cost them control of Congress.

Shock Polls: Dems TWICE As Likely to Support Hitler, and Trump’s Popularity Soars With Young Voters – PJ Media– pjmedia.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
Turns out that one of the biggest signs your spouse is cheating on you is when he or she suddenly accuses YOU of cheating.
(Assuming, of course, that you’re not actually cheating. ‘Cause if you are, your spouse is just being observant.)
Accusing someone of what you’re guilty of is a “tell” — a not-so-subtle form of self-incrimination, because our accusations are a defense mechanism. They’re psychological projections that hide our demons — a very specific, uniquely tailored smokescreen.
In other words, every accusation is a confession.
This is why I can’t wait for Sept. 15, 2027. (Shame it doesn’t fall on Oktoberfest.) Because that’s the day “literally Hitler” will finally out-Hitler the real Hitler.
Donald Trump announced he was running for president on June 16, 2015. Immediately thereafter, the media compared him to Adolf Hitler — and the blitzkrieg hasn’t gestoppt. Trump’s been branded “literally Hitler” so many times, it’s become a cliché.
And June 16, 2015 was [checks watch] 4,131 days ago.
Meanwhile, Hitler’s reign lasted precisely 4,473 days. (It ended with a bang.) This means that, on Sept. 15, 2027, Donald Trump will be the new record holder: Heil to the chief!
He’ll be the longest-reigning Hitler in Hitler history!
Hitler, Hitler, Hitler. That’s been the media narrative from day one: Trump is “literally Hitler,” every awkward MAGA hand gesture is a secret S.S. salute, and the Republican Party has been taken over by Nazis.
Never Trumpers gleefully promoted this narrative, layering it with a bipartisan façade. (Karl Rove repeated it again last week.) But it’s a lie.
“Literally Hitler” has a Jewish daughter, Jewish grandkids, an immigrant wife, and a veep who’s married to a Hindu Indian. “Literally Hitler” is wildly popular in Israel. “Literally Hitler’s” most loyal ethnic bloc isn’t white people or Aryans — it’s Native Americans.
And while the media was obsessively comparing Trump to Hitler, the Democratic Party was captured by Israel-obsessed, pro-Palestine socialists, i.e., the DSA.
DSA stormtroopers insist they’re not antisemites. They claim their criticisms are limited to Israel’s political policies; their only motivation is to ease the suffering of the poor, neglected Palestinian civilians.
Israel’s status as a Jewish state, you see, is entirely coincidental.
Yet it’s awfully revealing how many of the DSA’s enemies were also the REAL Hitler’s enemies. There’s an absurd degree of overlap: The DSA hates Israel, despises AIPAC, and vows to eliminate “Jewish influence” and/or “the globalists” (wink, wink). The Nazis and DSA both oppose free market capitalism, condemn “profiteering” business owners, support the government takeover of private industries — plus a dramatic expansion of mandatory, government-controlled social programs.
Every accusation is a confession.
Speaking of which, two polls just dropped. They’re not receiving much mainstream news coverage, mostly because the media loathes the results. The first poll undermines 4,131 days of a “literally Hitler” PR campaign. It’s the final solution to the mashugana Trump-is-Hitler narrative.
Turns out that the National Socialists and Democratic Socialists share more than just a name.
The second poll is even worse: It imperils the media’s demoralization campaign for the 2026 midterms. For months and months, the talking heads have been trying to convince you that a Blue Wave is inevitable — and the MAGA coalition is kaput.
Iran and Epstein have killed it. MAGA is finished.
Yet it seems a key demo is returning home: young voters. Trump’s numbers have suddenly spiked.
Let’s begin with “literally Hitler”:
Adolf Hitler Favorability Rating 🟢 Favorable: 6% 🔴 Unfavorable: 85% Favorable By Party: Democrats: 🟢 Favorable: 10% Republicans: 🟢 Favorable: 5% YouGov Poll https://t.co/kYrL920Trx
— OSZ (@OpenSourceZone) October 7, 2026
It’s from a YouGov survey on the popularity of world leaders, both living and dead. What’s fascinating is that Republican and independent results were 100% identical: Just 1% of each had a “very favorable” opinion of Hitler, 4% had a “somewhat unfavorable” opinion, 6% had a “somewhat unfavorable opinion,” 79% had a “very unfavorable opinion,” and 10% “don’t know.”
On absolutely every question about Hitler, Republicans and independents were indistinguishable.
This means that if Republicans are Nazis, then so are independents. (Go ahead, Democrats: Go bash independents as Nazis. I double dog dare ya!)
Because we’re not Nazis, of course. Just 5% of us think the Führer was fab.
Yet TWICE as many Democrats are fans of Hitler!
Too bad YouGov didn’t ask Democratic respondents if they also supported the DSA: I’ll betcha a Diet Coke there’d be a big-arse correlation between the DSA boosters and the Hitler fanboys. (“The enemy of my enemy” and all that.)
It’s gotten so bad, MORE than twice as many Democrats now approve of Hitler as approve of Trump!
The media can scream in every beer hall that Trump is “literally Hitler” and MAGA voters are all Nazis, but the evidence is overwhelming: The Democratic Party is the most pro-Hitler major political party in America today.
And Democrats are twice as likely to SUPPORT Hitler as the people they’re accusing of BEING Hitler!
On to the second poll:
Newsweek: Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Quietly Shifts With Youngest Voters
This headline is a splendid example of media bias: More people read the headline than see the article, which is why pro-Trump polling news tends to be headlined via vague-sounding “shifts” — who knows what really happened? — whereas anti-Trump polling news leads with the stats. Example A is this morning’s gem from USA Today.
(It’s also adorable that Newsweek described it as a “quiet shift.” Yeah, when the rest of the media ignores a story, it sounds pretty dang quiet, doesn’t it?)
It’s a deliberate PR strategy. Polling results consistently have a pro-Democrat bias anyway, so when you blast the anti-Trump stats in the headline and bury the rest, it heightens the illusion of overwhelming Democratic support. Conservative voters are thus demotivated.
Everyone hates Trump! Why, the Blue Tsunami will swallow the world! There’s no point in even voting, ‘cause we’re getting killed.
But beyond the headline, here’s what Newsweek reported:
President Donald Trump’s approval among voters aged 18 to 24 rose from 25 percent in July to 41 percent in September, according to a Newsweek analysis of Harvard/Harris polling.
The shift challenges the idea that young Americans who backed the president in 2024 are uniformly moving away from him before the midterm elections.
It’s an eye-popping statistic: Over the past two months, Trump’s support has jumped by 64%!
Young voters are most vulnerable to changes in the job market, good or bad. Affordability woes hit Zoomers disproportionately to Boomers. They surf the crest of cultural changes; they’re early adopters of political shifts.
And they’re now racing away from the Democratic Party.
This suggests that the 2026 midterms are anything but decided. Just because voters haven’t been shy about expressing their dissatisfaction with Republicans doesn’t mean they prefer the Democrats.
The opposite could be true: Yes, they’re disappointed in President Trump’s progress and expected better/faster results — but he’s still a WAY better option than those DSA weirdos!
As we near Election Day, more Americans will likely feel the same way. Because everything tightens in the homestretch. Wayward demos return home.
That’s been the historic norm: One domino falls, then the other.
It begins with young voters, but that’s not where it ends.
So stay engaged. The midterms aren’t close to over. The media wants to demoralize you, but there are plenty of reasons for optimism.
A 64% jump in youth support is extraordinary! (Especially for a Republican.)
Just know you won’t be reading the good news in a headline, because that’s not how the propaganda game is played. Instead, the media relies on dog whistles, bias, and selective reporting — while tarring Republicans for the crimes of Democrats.
I’m not cheating! YOU must be cheating! I’m not Hitler! YOU must be Hitler!
But every accusation is a confession.
The Democrats and the media aren’t just pointing fingers. They’re holding up a mirror.
This is why they keep seeing Hitler.
One Last Thing: 2026 will reach a crescendo with the midterm elections. Nothing less than the future of our country teeters in the balance.
Never before have the political battle lines been so clearly defined. Blue wave or red wall, the 2026 midterms will transform our country.

Harvard will stop granting internships to foreign law students– www.thecollegefix.com

EXCERPT:
Foreign student suggests Americans would have taken his internship just as a ‘hobby‘
Harvard University international students will no longer be able to displace American law students from internship opportunities.
Harvard’s law school announced it was ending work authorizations for foreign law students. The change follows a Trump administration directive to restrict “Curricular Practical Training” opportunities for foreign students. The internships had been used as backdoor way to allow foreigners on student visas to work in the country.
The Crimson reported:
HLS’s graduation requirements include six credits of “experiential learning courses,” which includes externship clinics. But students also have the option to fulfill the requirement through in-house clinics and seminars — meaning externships are not required of every student and no longer qualify for CPT.
The change bars international J.D. students from all of the Law School’s 13 externship clinics, which pair a course component with placements at government agencies, companies, and non-profit organizations. Previously, international students were barred only from some externships, such as government placements that require U.S. citizenship.
Associate Dean Meredith Boak said the school wants to help its foreign students through these changes.
“We reached out earlier this month to all F-1 students and have been working directly with students already enrolled in externship clinics to help them understand their options,” Boak wrote, according to the student newspaper. “Students who are unable to pursue an externship are being offered individualized advising to identify an alternative path aligned with their goals.”
Applicants for a student visa are supposed to attest that they do not plan to use it as a way to gain permanent residency or citizenship in the country. However, an immigration law professor at the University of Oklahoma told Harvard’s student newspaper that this is what students do.
“I would assume that most students would not want to use their optional practical training in this context,” Professor Kit Johnson said. OPT is a related program that also functions as a backdoor employment program for foreign students.
“They usually want to use it for post graduation because then it helps buy them time and buys their employer time to get them a different visa,” Johnson said, implicitly acknowledging foreign students find ways to stay in the country after graduation.
A Canadian law school graduate bemoaned that others like him might be denied of the opportunity. He suggested foreign law students get internships to gain experience, while Americans just do it as a “hobby.”
“It seems like cruelty for cruelty’s sake,” Michael Poirier, a 2025 Harvard Law School graduate complained.
“You’re just removing those opportunities from the people who are the most interested in them, the people who are most likely to provide the most value to those opportunities versus people who, maybe they’re American-born, but maybe doing an NBA internship is more of a hobby for them.”
Poirier said he may not have attended Harvard if he was not able to get an American internship.
“If I were told at the time that the NBA was completely off the table, I never would have come to the United States,” he said. “There would have been no incentive for me to do so. I would have just much preferred to stay among family and friends and have a successful legal career in Canada.”
He now works at Ropes and Gray, a Boston law firm.
The Trump policy may not be permanent, as legal challenges are currently underway. Several groups filed a federal lawsuit on Monday in a Massachusetts federal court, The Crimson reported.
Groups are separately challenging a regulation that would require college students to complete their studies in four years or apply for a waiver.
U.S. Seizes $2.8 Million in American Fuel Illicitly Headed to Cuba– www.breitbart.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
Multiple federal agencies announced on Wednesday that they had seized 90 shipments of fuel illicitly intended to be sent from the United States to a sanctioned corporate entity in Cuba.
The shipments, which reportedly mostly contained diesel fuel, were reportedly valued at $2.8 million and expected to be received by the Cuban energy corporation ENETEC S.A., which the U.S. government sanctioned due to its role in funding the illegitimate communist regime in control of that country. The federal agencies stated that the shipments seized were preparing to depart from Florida and Texas.
The seizure reveals that American authorities believe that the Cuban regime, desperate for petroleum products, is apparently seeking them in the United States despite the long-established alleged “embargo” limiting commercial activity with the Castro family dynasty. Cuba has been experiencing severe fuel shortages this year following the arrest of Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro in January, who for years provided free or heavily discounted fuel to Cuba in exchange for political and military support.
Cuba especially needs access to diesel and other petroleum products because its dilapidated power grid cannot sustain the nation’s electricity demands. As a result of over half a century of socialist mismanagement, Cuba barely maintains a power grid and what is left of it routinely fails; the wealthy, tourists, and communist elites became accustomed to accessing electricity through private generators. Without fuel for those generators, the blackouts affect luxury hotels and other properties frequented by foreigners. This year, the power grid regularly collapsed, doing so five times in the month of August alone.
According to a press release published on Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Wednesday, multiple agencies including Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “developed information indicating that the Cuban government used ENETEC S.A. to receive fuel illegally exported from the United States” that led them to act to seize the shipments.
“A total of 71 shipments containing approximately 496,000 gallons of biodiesel fuel at Port Everglades were seized and 19 additional shipments containing approximately 119,000 gallons at the Port of Houston are currently being detained,” ICE shared.
Special Agent in Charge Jose R. Figueroa with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami, one of the participating agencies, said in a statement that the seizures “underscores HSI Miami’s commitment to stopping fuel and other goods from the United States from being illegally exported to Cuba through sanctioned entities or deceptive commercial networks” and authorities would continue to monitor and intercept such activity.
The agencies also published video of the seized shipments in Florida, a large number of gas tankers lined up for inspection on land after being taken into custody.
The independent outlet Cubanet reported that authorities have filed a case implicating ENETEC S.A., a Cuban company sanctioned on July 13 for its role in supplying the Castro regime. It is considered a Cuban state enterprise, which Cubanet described as being “dedicated to the import, export, and commercialization of combustibles.”
While shipments directly to Cuban state companies run afoul of sanctions, Cubanet observed that the “Cuban private sector,” which does not practically exist as the country is a repressive communist autocracy, has in fact sought the import of American petroleum products following the collapse of its once-reliable Venezuelan supply. Those shipments reportedly avoid “embargo” scrutiny through a loophole in the policy in which the United States does not prevent business to “support the Cuban people.”
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez appeared to respond to the seizure in a post on social media on Thursday, declaring that the American government “lacks practical and moral authority to decide what is legal under international law and free commerce laws.”
“Its measures are not just directed illegally towards Cuba, but towards the rest of the international community,” Rodríguez declared. This statement is false, any other country can – and many countries, including European allies of the United States – do engage in commerce with Cuba. To the extent they limit this, it is a response to the Cuba’s deplorable economic status and its lack of respect for human rights. A notable example of this is the massive Spanish hotel corporation Melía, which maintained dozens of properties in Cuba for decades, but shut down its operations there this year in response to the unsustainable economic climate on the island.
Rodríguez’s rant went on to declare that America “also does not have the right to impose a naval blockade nor an energy blockade.”
The government of President Donald Trump has regularly dismissed the Cuban regime’s accusations that its energy woes have anything to do with America or the “embargo.” On May 20, after announcing a series of new sanctions on the Cuban regime in response to its egregious human rights abuses, Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered an address in which he explained that electricity struggles in Cuba were unrelated to any American policy.
“The reason you are forced to survive 22 hours a day without electricity is not due to an oil ‘blockade’ by the U.S.,” he clarified. “As you know, better than anyone, you have been suffering from blackouts for years. The real reason you don’t have electricity, fuel or food is because those who control your country have plundered billions of dollars, but nothing has been used to help the people.”
Poll: 1 in 4 Trump voters say GOP candidates should break from the president– www.politico.com
News Source
EXCERPT:
One in four Trump voters say GOP candidates should break with the president to win in November, according to the latest POLITICO Poll, conducted by independent firm PF Global.
The findings underscore the degree to which even loyal Republicans understand President Donald Trump is a drag on the ticket. Persistent inflation, $4 gas prices, 7% mortgage rates, a quagmire in the Middle East and a trade war with Canada have given Republican candidates no shortage of opportunities to take the president to task.
Michigan’s GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers this week became the latest example when he called for an end to the “tariff war” with Canada — a notable shift after he spent weeks defending the president’s decision.
“It was brilliant by Mike Rogers … when you talk about the affordability issue, in every poll I get back, every week, more and more people have this as their top issue,” said Michigan-based GOP consultant Jason Roe, who is working on Rep. Tom Barrett’s (R-Mich.) reelection campaign. “Obviously the price of gas is a result of the Iran war, and in Michigan, more than anything else, the trade war with Canada.”
Rogers is hardly the only example. Florida GOP Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar used an ad filmed in front of the White House to call out the president’s immigration crackdown. Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Iowa), in her bid to win the Iowa Senate seat, has called for an end to the Iran war amid souring diesel costs. Ken Paxton, the GOP’s embattled Texas Senate nominee, has now been the subject of four leaks exposing his private attempts to distance himself from Trump and the national party.
“It’s just all dictated by the data,” said a GOP strategist working on a Senate campaign, granted anonymity to speak candidly about the president. “They see the writing on the wall about the gas prices and the inflation. Running as a Trump sycophant is not going to work in 2026. It’s the only political move you can do in Michigan, a state like that. It’s toxic to be tied to the man.”
There are some limits: No Republican has completely broken with Trump, and several are eager to stand next to him on stage or in the Oval. Few dare to criticize him directly. And many still lean on their ties to the president on the campaign trail and in their social media profiles as they seek to rally the MAGA base.
A White House official, granted anonymity to discuss internal thinking, scoffed at the idea that Rogers’ — or any other candidates’ — efforts to distance themselves from Trump administration policies, amounted to a major break with the president.
“If I’m a candidate that’s physically trying to push away from the president, I’m not attending this stuff. I’m just gonna back away all the way,” the official said. “Being in the midst of a campaign and needing to talk to the issues that are being discussed as kitchen table topics, you just kind of have to.”
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle pointed to the Trump administration’s efforts to lower prescription drug costs, cut taxes, secure the border and grow job numbers: “No one can dispute the fact that President Trump has created one of the most robust coalitions in political history with the MAGA movement, and the president understands how to communicate with them. President Trump is the unequivocal leader, best messenger, and unmatched motivator for the Republican Party, and he is committed to maintaining Republican majorities in Congress.”
Politicians touting their independence from Washington is nothing new. But as the poll reveals, it’s notable
that so many who voted for Trump, who has been the GOP’s dominant force for a decade, are ready for candidates to take that leap.
Much of the fracture is driven by the non-MAGA wing of his coalition, the people who voted for Trump in 2024 but do not identify as part of his most loyal base, the survey found. When asked about specific issues such as the economy, trade and tariffs, data centers, immigration and the Iran war, non-MAGA Trump voters were roughly twice as likely as MAGA Trump voters to say their GOP candidate should break from the president.
But Trump still retains an intense hold over the base. More than two-thirds of MAGA voters said GOP candidates should continue to align with Trump across all of those issues.
That creates a no-win situation for many Republican candidates: Tie yourself to Trump and his policies too tightly and you lose independents and non-MAGA Republicans. Break too far, and you risk leaving MAGA disenchanted.
Candidates trying to thread that needle are quick to praise the president but blame his advisers, as Salazar did, or avoid mentioning Trump by name at all.
Roe said each candidate has to measure the “downstream effects” of a decision to distance themselves from the president, adding that it’s a balance between “alienating your base with appealing to voters that are looking for some independence.”
On the campaign trail, many Republicans acknowledge that the president remains an asset in shoring up base voters crucial to November. It’s part of the reason Trump has aggressively traveled to red states — including Alabama, Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio and Texas — bastions of conservatism that need his star power to coax die-hard supporters to the polls. The White House official pointed to the president’s rally with South Carolina Senate candidate Darline Graham ahead of her run-off as an example of Trump’s ability to juice turnout.
RNC press secretary Natalie Baldassarre insisted that Republicans “remain united behind the president’s agenda” and are “laser focused on winning.”
“Our candidates will run the races necessary to best represent their districts and prevent Democrats from taking control,” she said.
The president is telling voters to “pretend” he is on the ballot, and he has insisted the party is already in a better place as he blitzes states across the country, touting his economy and arguing that higher prices are a small price to pay for national security amid the lingering war with Iran.
But some candidates are still nervous that if they campaign beside the president, they could alienate undecided voters. Some Republicans have encouraged Trump’s team not to send the president to a blue-leaning Omaha district and other key districts where his approval rating is underwater ahead of Election Day.
“I don’t think there are that many candidates who are clamoring for Trump to come to their state. But to the extent they do, it’s a gamble that they’ve already lost the voters who are gonna vote against them, and they need to light a fire under the voters who are sitting it out, and he’s the torch,” said Democratic strategist David Axelrod, who was chief strategist for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign. “The problem is the torch can burn the whole house down.”
The damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don’t dilemma is perhaps best captured with Paxton’s campaign in Texas. On Wednesday, Trump took the stage in San Antonio, bringing up Paxton, the same day his latest closed-door comments complaining about the Iran war and high prices dragging down his campaign went public.
But standing on stage with Trump, he struck a much different tune.
“Wow, what is it like to be up on stage with the president of the United States? Pretty amazing,” he said. “Mr. President, I want to thank you for coming for me, for coming for us and for coming for Texas.”
India calls JD Vance’s comments about immigrants ‘deeply offensive’– www.cnbc.com

EXCERPT:
U.S. Vice President JD Vance speaks during a Fraud Task Force press conference in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building at the White House on October 08, 2026 in Washington, DC.
India called comments by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance about immigrants from the country “deeply offensive” in an official government statement published on Friday.
Vance said on Thursday that the Trump administration wants foreign and local companies to “employ American workers,” and that they “cannot lay off American workers and then replace them with foreign indentured servants.”
He was speaking as the U.S. Department of Labor announced it would suspend Microsoft, Adobe and several major Indian information technology companies from its Permanent Labor Certification program, meaning they cannot apply for permanent residency for their employees on H-1 B visas.
Around 70% of H-1B beneficiaries in 2025 were born in India, per official data.
In a statement on Friday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs accused Vance of using “terminology that carries painful historical and colonial legacy connotations.”
“Such descriptions are unwarranted and ignore the fact that Indian professionals in the United States are highly educated and skilled contributors to its economy and innovation ecosystem,” the statement said.
Vance’s office did not immediately respond to a comment request from CNBC.
Vance was critical of Microsoft, accusing the company of replacing 6,000 laid-off workers with people on H-1B visas.
The Indian foreign ministry assured its citizens that measures announced by the U.S. will not affect the validity of existing H-1B visas or the status of H-1B visa holders and their dependents.
“Talent mobility adds value to both economies,” the statement said, adding that the suspensions “do not advance the shared ambitions of both countries.”
More hiring in the U.S.
The Indian companies affected by the ban include Cognizant, Infosys, Capgemini, Tata Consultancy Services, Wipro and HCL.
NASSCOM, the IT industry body, said in a statement that Indian technology companies have “significantly reduced their dependence on H-1B visas” over the last few years, and are expanding domestic hiring to their U.S. workforces.
The largest Indian IT company, Tata Consultancy Services, said its H-1B applications were in “single digits” in the last two years, and it intends to hire another 15,000 people in the U.S. over the next five years.
In June, a federal judge blocked the $100,000 H-1B visa fee U.S. President Donald Trump imposed last year.

Right-wing candidate Flavio Bolsonaro on Thursday gained the support of Augusto Cury, the third-place candidate in Brazil‘s presidential election, bolstering his chances against incumbent leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
“My support is not a blank check,” Cury said in a statement, after winning nearly three percent of the vote in Sunday’s first round of voting, compared to Bolsonaro’s 47 percent and Lula’s 45 percent.
Bolsonaro, 45, is the eldest son of far-right former president Jair Bolsonaro, who is under house arrest for plotting a coup after losing Brazil’s last election in 2022.
Prior to the announcement, the younger Bolsonaro was leading in polls on Thursday, which gave the senator 52 percent compared to Lula’s 48 percent, according to the Datafolha institute.

Lula, 81, downplayed the polls as he sought to secure a fourth term.
“I don’t assess polls, I don’t work like that. I work knowing that I need to have more votes than Flavio to win the election. I have 17 days to do that,” he said at a press conference Thursday.
While Bolsonaro is hoping to bank on his allegiances in the final stretch of the campaign, Lula has been strengthening his presence on social media, where the right has an upper hand.
Thousands of people demonstrated on Thursday in Sao Paulo and other cities against the return of the far right to power in Brazil, a day after a similar march in Rio de Janeiro.
Renan Santos, the fourth most popular candidate with 2.6 million votes, has refused to support either leading candidate.

Modi wants India to power the AI age. Residents are pushing back– www.933thedrive.com

By Vibhuti Sharma, Munsif Vengattil and Aditya Kalra
MUMBAI, Oct 9 (Reuters) – The view from Indian engineer Tushar Shetty’s Mumbai apartment captures a tension playing out around the world as the artificial intelligence boom fuels an unprecedented data-centre building spree.
What was once a stretch of lush greenery outside his 21st-floor window is now a scar of red earth where trees were felled to make way for an Amazon facility that forms part of the tech giant’s planned $21 billion investment in AI infrastructure in India by 2030.
“I would not have bought the house if I had known,” said the 46-year-old, lamenting a purchase made just five months ago.
From the suburbs of Virginia to the outskirts of Amsterdam and Dublin, residents have increasingly rebelled against the spread of AI data centres, complaining of noise, surging electricity consumption, water stress and industrialisation of residential neighbourhoods.
That resistance is gaining ground in India, where Amazon, Google and Microsoft are pouring billions into facilities that advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambition to host “the whole world’s data”, stretching from Maharashtra in the west to Andhra Pradesh in the south.
Unable for now to match the frontier models emerging from the US and China, India is pursuing a different path, betting that dominance in the physical backbone of artificial intelligence may prove just as valuable.
The strategy sits at the heart of Modi’s investment pitch as the world’s back office loses its shine, even as the ambition collides with concerns over scarce resources and communities living alongside the infrastructure powering the digital economy.
India holds 4% of the world’s freshwater for 18% of its people, and data centres are clustering in cities already short of it. S&P Global estimates 60% to 80% of Indian data centres could face high water stress this decade.
In 2025, data centres used about 150 billion litres of water, a figure projected to more than double by 2030, according to research firm Mordor Intelligence.
The Amazon project near Mumbai is emerging as one of India’s most prominent flashpoints. Reuters interviews with more than two dozen residents and a review of official correspondence show growing concerns it will strain local power and water supplies and generate noise harmful to health, particularly for children and the elderly.
Amazon and local authorities have strongly defended the project, saying it will not burden public utilities because water and power will come from dedicated sources. The dispute has nevertheless sparked street protests and drawn opposition politicians into the fight.
Modi’s government has also mounted a public defence, promoting data centres online as “the invisible engines powering India’s digital life” and arguing modern technologies use water and electricity more efficiently.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Prime Minister’s Office and Maharashtra’s chief minister’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
On September 8, hundreds of residents, including elderly people, gathered beside the site holding placards reading “Data centres are energy vampires”. They want the project moved elsewhere.
“If the data centre stops, we will stay … If it goes ahead, we will move,” said Vasudha Shetty, 62, who bought a flat near the 54-acre planned facility, but wants to prioritize a quiet retirement.
AMAZON WEIGHS COMMUNITY OUTREACH
More than 1,000 residents living near the site say the project was pushed through without meaningful consultation.
In Virginia, home to the world’s largest concentration of data centres, Amazon paused a 2024 proposal for three facilities amid concerns over noise and proximity to homes, saying it wanted more time for community engagement. Mumbai residents say they never got that chance.
Internally, Amazon is not overly concerned because government officials have indicated the protests will pass, according to a person familiar with its planning. Still, the company is drawing up community outreach plans to address concerns over noise, water and power.
“Building data centres comes at a cost. Amazon at a global level is prepared to work with community and limit any inconvenience,” the person said. “For now there is no other option but to live with protests.”
Amazon told Reuters the data centre will use water-free cooling, a dedicated power supply separate from homes and noise-mitigation measures. It added that more saplings were planted than trees removed.
Still, even some industry executives question whether data centres belong next to neighbourhoods.
“I will never set up a data centre in a residential area,” Sharad Agarwal, CEO of Sify Infinit Spaces, which runs 14 data centres, said at an industry event in September. “Centres need abundant, uninterrupted power and water … and near homes they risk being starved of both in a shortage.”
Microsoft has also unveiled a four-year $20.5 billion investment plan for India, mostly earmarked for AI data centres.
POLITICAL SNAGS
In the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, environmentalists are opposing Google’s $15 billion data centre project, citing risks to wildlife, water and power supplies and alleging that a temple’s land was used without permission. Google and the state deny any wrongdoing.
The backlash has also turned political. In September, Aaditya Thackeray, an opposition legislator, joined Mumbai protesters demanding the Amazon project be relocated, saying his party would move it if returned to power.
Back in Mumbai, property broker Atul Jadhav said buyer concerns over views and property values may be hurting nearby resale prices.
“We will come out on the roads and do whatever it takes to stop it,” said Vidya Kadam, 68, who has lived in the area for 30 years.

How far gone do you have to be to think that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “genocidal”?
Apparently, this far gone:

“Mayor Mamdani, you can’t hide we charge you with genocide” was a chant that just rang out. pic.twitter.com/1RWaCtcJAz
— Chris Sommerfeldt (@C_Sommerfeldt) October 7, 2026
And this far gone:
Think about how utterly insane this is.
Mamdani is a Muslim Democratic socialist who has spent his political career advocating for Palestinian rights. And he was elected mayor of the country’s largest city while openly embracing Democratic socialism—proving that an unapologetically left-wing politician can build a winning coalition.
He is quite literally one of the greatest political success stories the U.S. socialist left has ever produced. So how does its extremist flank celebrate that success? By calling him a genocidal Zionist.
This is much of the same behavior and attitude that saw Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez effectively of New York excommunicated by the national Democratic Socialists of America, even though its New York City chapter maintained its support.
And while DSA factions participated in yesterday’s protests against Mamdani, this wasn’t exclusively a DSA attack; it was a broader assault from the self-defeating far-left fringe.
It’s gotten so absurd that even prominent pro-Palestinian voices are shaking their heads.
If you’re protesting and blaming *checks notes* Zohran Mamdani for the Gaza genocide you may, you just may, need to check yourself into a mental health facility. https://t.co/oYEeQyxun7

Palestinians are cursed with having these idiots speak on their behalf. https://t.co/RmCLkM9Zvk
— Ihab Hassan (@IhabHassane) October 8, 2026
Activist Ihab Hassan has been particularly brutal, writing posts on X like, “The Palestinian cause was hijacked by these idiots long ago, and most people in the pro-Palestine movement who disagree with them are too cowardly to call them out or challenge their disgusting narrative.”
And he notes the uncomfortable truth that much of the pro-Palestinian far-left is very, very white.
Palestinians who oppose Hamas’s terrorism are too often unwelcome in the pro-Palestine movement. That is the unfortunate reality.
It doesn’t matter how outspoken you are about Israeli crimes against Palestinians, or even that you are Palestinian yourself. You can still be…
— Ihab Hassan (@IhabHassane) October 7, 2026
So what, exactly, do these people think they’re accomplishing? It’s certainly not helping the Palestinian people in any way.
Politics is about winning power so you can actually change things. You build coalitions, win elections, enact policies, and improve people’s lives. That’s the whole point.
Mamdani did precisely that—he built a coalition broad enough to win America’s largest city without abandoning his progressive principles. He now has an opportunity to demonstrate that Democratic socialism can deliver tangible improvements in people’s lives.
That’s a tremendous opportunity for the movement that helped elect him. But rather than celebrate that success, these extremists are determined to undermine it.
Why? Because governing requires compromise. It requires engaging with people who disagree with you. It requires recognizing that you’re the mayor of 8.5 million people, not the president of a collegiate activist club.
And for these zealots, compromise isn’t a necessary part of governance; it’s betrayal. So they don’t just eat their own, but they eat their most successful.
Republicans have allowed their far-right white nationalists to fester, undermining their broader movement—something that conservative radio personality Erick Erickson has been grappling with lately. There should be no room in the progressive coalition for anyone who thinks that Mamdani and AOC are “genocidal Zionists.”
And no, I’m not being exclusionary. These wacko leftists exclude themselves—not just by viciously attacking their erstwhile allies, but by making sure to focus their efforts against Democrats, going so far as to agitate against our own ticket in 2024.
Remember? Once upon a time, the vice president was apparently the most powerful person in the world when it came to the Israel-Hamas war. Defeating “Killer Kamala” was so important that helping Donald Trump return to the White House was an acceptable outcome.
Now Trump and Vice President JD Vance are literally turning the Middle East upside down. And Palestinians are hardly better off for having Trump in the White House.
But is the far-left out there protesting this regime? Of course not. Somehow, it’s Mamdani who deserves their anger. The real enemy is the Democratic socialist mayor who showed up at a vigil mourning both Israeli and Palestinian victims.
This is Trumpian levels of self-sabotage, without Trump’s inexplicable power to actually rally people around him.
These are not serious people. They are not interested in the difficult, often frustrating work of making the world a better place—one that actually improves the lives of the people they claim to be fighting for.
They would rather be impeccably righteous in defeat than accomplish something meaningful through compromise.
So far AOC has done a great job of distancing herself from the worst of these extremists. And after last night, hopefully Mamdani understands that he can also never win with these zealots.

Abdul El-Sayed Wins Michigan Senate Debate Because Mike Rogers Can’t Shake Trump– www.politicususa.com

EXCERPT:
The debate between the candidates for Michigan’s open US Senate seat was ugly. Mike Rogers can’t run a successful Senate campaign by cozying up to Donald Trump and running on the issues. Instead, Rogers has to make the debate about Abdul El-Sayed.

In contrast, El-Sayed spent the debate that was loaded with personal attacks linking Rogers to Trump and the president’s unpopular policies.
The debate exchange of the night came when El-Sayed said:
He wanted to make this about him or me, but the question is about you. Can you afford your gas? Can you afford your groceries? Under this guy who’s gonna rubber-stamp everything Donald Trump tells him to rubber-stamp, you’re gonna continue to pay way more out of your nose because he works for corporations and Donald Trump.
Some people might suggest that this was not the kind of debate that would help voters make a decision, but the opposite was true.
The debate was deeply insightful, just not in the way that Mike Rogers intended.
Rogers wants to have it both ways. He wants to “other” El-Sayed while distancing himself from Trump.
Fort Hood attacker’s execution by firing squad will be livestreamed, Pentagon says– www.bbc.co.uk

There is no modern-era precedent for having a public execution, said John Mills, a lawyer who works with inmates sentenced to death.
“It looks to me designed to be a grotesque spectacle,” he said. “It’s an unprecedented decision in the modern era, and so it is on uncertain legal terrain,” he added.
A military execution requires approval from the US president, according to military law. It also requires appellate review, where a higher court inspects the decision, and a final judgment on its legality to move forward.
The appellate process for Hasan is not over, Mills said, and he is likely to seek review of his conviction and sentence in federal court, which would likely stay the execution.
As such, Mills said that he would be surprised if the execution happened.
“Seeking to make it livestreamed, a firing squad execution, is little more than attention-seeking by the Trump administration and is unlikely to occur, much less deliver any semblance of justice,” he added.
Certain states require some form of public viewing of executions. Many states require journalists to be present, and the person due to be executed can invite people. Others also allow ordinary citizens to volunteer as witnesses.
But “there hasn’t ever been a livestreamed execution,” says Deborah Denno, a law professor at Fordham University, who has studied US execution methods.
A livestreamed execution would “force a level of transparency that we have probably never seen before in this country”, she says.
“More than half of the country wants the death penalty – even though that’s on the decline – an argument could be made that ‘if you want the death penalty, then we are going to show you how it’s conducted in this country’. And people would have to realise exactly what’s happening in a way that many people ignore.”
Denno says there are important considerations for a livestream such as whether it would be age-redistricted and whether it would contravene the policies of the online platform that hosts the viewing.
It is unclear where the livestream will be available. Most major social media platforms have rules that prohibit or restrict livestreaming explicit content.
90,000 Babies Will be Killed With Abortion Pills Before FDA Finally Does Review– www.lifenews.com

EXCERPT:
Alliance Defending Freedom Of Counsel Erin Hawley commented regarding the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s court-ordered update submitted Wednesday on its mifepristone safety study. Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys asked the court to require the FDA to restore the in-person dispensing requirement for the abortion drug:
“The American people deserve the thorough report on abortion drug safety that the FDA has promised for nearly two years, but the agency has again failed to deliver it. The FDA now says it won’t release its final study until March. That will be too late for nearly 90,000 unborn babies who will die between now and then by illegally obtained abortion drugs in states like Louisiana that have taken great care to protect babies and mothers from the harms of abortion.
“But even then, the lengthy regulatory work that will be required after the study concludes could push any potential solution to the next administration. Not only is that unacceptable, but it’s also beside the point. The release of a study does nothing to correct the unlawfulness of the FDA’s 2023 decision, which three 5th Circuit panels, two district court judges, and now DOJ leadership itself have all concluded was ‘wrong.’
“Meanwhile, every month of additional delay puts nearly 15,000 additional babies at risk in states where mail-order abortion drugs are unlawful—1,000 in Louisiana alone—and more women like Rosalie, Catherine, and Elizabeth at risk of being coerced or tricked into ingesting these life-ending drugs. Nobody disputes that. And the FDA can easily end that today, even while its study continues, by entering into a consent decree with Louisiana to vacate the 2023 REMS.
“Indeed, mail-order abortions don’t empower women—they facilitate the abuse, coercion, and poisoning of women by making high-risk drugs accessible to bad actors at the click of a button. The FDA knows the right thing is to restore the in-person dispensing requirement. In fact, a new peer-reviewed article was just released detailing that the agency lacked evidence to justify removing this basic safety requirement.
“Life is the first and most basic human right, and states have the right to protect it. The administration should set politics aside and respect states’ interest in protecting life, act now to restore abortion drugs’ minimum safety requirements, and settle ADF’s and Louisiana’s lawsuit.”
