Of all the memorials in all the world…..
This isn’t about honoring the dead—it’s about legitimizing the wrong ones. Standing at a state monument in Algeria and praising those who died “for their people,” without distinguishing between freedom fighters and those who slaughtered Christians and Jews, is moral confusion at best and abdication at worst. In a place where the Church was nearly wiped out, that kind of gesture doesn’t signal peace—it signals that the suffering of Christians is secondary. A pope is supposed to bring clarity. The atrocities by Muslim terrorists included the slitting of women’s throats and babies being murdered by having their heads smashed against walls. The massacres climaxed in the Oran Massacre in which De Gaulle’s corrupt regime refused to protect Christians and Jews from the Muslim mob.
