American troops have completed their withdrawal from their base in Niamey, the capital of Niger. By September 15, the United States is to withdraw from the city of Agadez in the north of the country. According to AFP, there were about 950 US troops in Niger, 766 of them left the country, UNN reports .

“The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Niger and the U.S. Department of Defense announce that the withdrawal of U.S. forces and equipment from Niamey Air Base 101 is now complete,” the joint communiqué reads.
According to AFP, the ceremony at the base was attended by Niger’s Chief of Staff Maman Sani Kiau and American General Kenneth Ackman.
