Texas Democrat James Talarico is facing fresh scrutiny after newly leaked audio reveals that the Senate candidate once described himself as “a Christian who hates Christianity” during a podcast discussion with progressive religious activists.
The remarks were made during a 2021 appearance on the “Activist Theology” podcast but were leaked online by the Republican National Committee on Tuesday.
The audio is now drawing attention as Talarico attempts to present himself as a faith-driven Democrat in his bid to defeat Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in November’s closely watched Senate race.
